Five-time GRAMMY-Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne will be taking the stage of the MVP Arena in Albany this October. He is joined by special guests The Kid LAROI and Selfish Sons.
Over the last 20 years, Lil Wayne has achieved a career unlike any other. His discography has brought him several accolades and immense critical acclaim. Overall, his career is marked by five #1 debuts, starting with the 6x platinum, 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning opus Tha Carter III in 2008, followed by the 5x platinum Tha Carter IV in 2011.
In 2005, Lil Wayne founded the world-famous record label Young Money Entertainment. As CEO, he discovered and signed countless up-and-coming rappers, some of which would grow to become the biggest stars in the music industry, most notably Drake and Nicki Minaj.
On October 11, Wayne will be taking the stage with Australian rapper The Kid LAROI and rock band Selfish Sons. His Albany stop at the MVP Arena marks his only New York show on his current tour.

The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild will present BIO-SPHERE, a unique sonic collaboration between environmental sculptor Ian Laughlin and renowned composer/percussionist David Van Tieghem. This free performance will take place Sunday, August 4 and 2pm in front of the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild’s Office Complex located at 34 Tinker Street in Woodstock.
David Van Tieghem is an American composer and sound designer known for his philosophy of utilizing any available object as a percussion instrument. In his long career, Van Tieghem has performed and composed for numerous films and productions as well as collaborating with Steve Reich, Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, David Byrne, Deborah Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie, Adrian Belew, Jerry Marotta, John Zorn, Sylvia Bullett and Happy Traum. Along with many other awards, Van Tieghem was the recipient of a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship for Music Composition (2007).
Originally from New Zealand, Ian Laughlin is a multi-media eco-artist who first achieved notoriety in New York City’s Lower East Side in the 80s. A resident of the Hudson Valley since 1990, Laughlin has been dedicated to exploring injustices and finding solutions to the many challenges facing the planet through his many notable art installations and acoustic sculptures. BIO-SPHERE is the latest Laughlin-Van Tieghem collaboration and it’s sounding the alarm about PFOS, the so-called ‘forever chemicals,’ endangering our species and planet.
“My sculpture utilizes tanks and piping to present a model for water purification of carcinogenic ‘forever chemicals’,” says Laughlin. “It is sonically designed for composer/percussionist David Van Tieghem to signal that alarm in a bold musical way.”
Recent Laughlin and Van Tieghem works have included Chilling Effects and Glacial Survival Instincts (2023) and Lunasa and Pitchfork Chamber Music (2021), the former of which also included collaboration with Laughlin’s partner, the singer/songwriter Sylvia Bullett. On September 20, Wonderland Forest in Lafayette, NY, will be home to LonCon, a two-day music festival featuring numerous rocking jam bands. This year, LonCon will also see the debut of newly formed Big Shrimp, ready to stun crowds with new faces.
Formerly known as Baked Shrimp, the group has decided to take on a new name, and of course, a new style. Hailing from Long Island and originally forming in 2017, Baked Shrimp took on the world as a trio, made up of Jared Cowen (Guitar/Vocals), Scott Reill (Bass/Vocals), and Jager Soss (Drums/Vocals). Their funk style brought them to festivals and shows all over the United States and Canada, and even provided supporting acts for artists like the Disco Biscuits, Pink Talking Fish, Aqueous, Dopapod, and more.
In 2021, Baked Shrimp formed LonCon, a two-day music festival featuring hundreds of artists over the course of three years. Up until recently, they performed as Baked Shrimp, but are now ready to change it up and announce their new and improved act.
Now known as Big Shrimp, the band has taken on not just a new name, but a new sound and even a new member. Joining the Big Shrimp crew is Matt Takesh, their brand new keyboard player.
“I am so amped up to have Matt Takesh with us behind a batch of keyboards, including a real B3!” says guitarist and vocalist Jared Cowen. “He and Max Perrotti have been a pure joy to bring into our world of music, and we can’t wait to see what this lineup looks and sounds like on the stage.”
This year, LonCon has moved to a new location, Wonderland Forest in Lafayette. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and dozens of hiking trails, attendees can choose to camp as close or as far from the festival as they’d like, and take in amazing hiking trails, scenic overlooks, waterfalls, and more.
The full lineup of LonCon is to be released soon, with performances from Mihali, Big Shrimp x2, Aliens Among Us (ft. Ben Atkind (ElephantProof/formerly Goose), Ryan Dempsey (Twiddle), Sam Lucid (Dogs in a Pile), Jared Sage Cowen (Big Shrimp), Gantzer, Sophistafunk, Annie in the Water, and more already announced.
“Having his and our friends and family be with us for what we continue to want to be an annual event, is so special, and inspires us to continue to want to grow our community,” says Cowen. The highly anticipated debut album for Big Shrimp is set to release in the Spring of 2025, following an incredible festival.

Tina, the Tina Turner Musical on Broadway, will tour upstate to Schenectady from July 30 to Aug 4.
The eight performances are part of the Keybank Broadway series at Proctors Theater. Tina just finished performances further north in Toronto at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre from June 18 to July 28.
The historical Proctors Theatre has been open since 1926 and first brought in large audiences by hosting continuous performances like they do today.
Tina first made its debut in London in 2018. Other international productions began to open in the following years. In 2019, Tina opened in Germany. It made its way to the Netherlands in 2020 and Spain in 2021. The show opened on Broadway in 2019 and was nominated for 12 Tony Awards that year and re-started in 2021 after the industry’s complete shutdown due to COVID-19.
The current North American tour has a talented cast led by Ari Groover and Zurin Villanueva who share the role of Turner herself. The musical was directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall.
Tina tells the life story of the Grammy award winning artist. Tuner began her musical career as a duo with her then husband Ike Turner. The two rose to fame with their cover of “Proud Mary” in 1966. In 1976, Turner divorced her husband after years of abuse. She made her comeback in the 80’s with her solo album Private Dancer. The singer had decades of musical success until her recent death in 2023. A feature documentary TINA exploring the life and career of this esteemed singer is available to stream on HBO Max.

The Guggenheim’s performing arts series, Works & Process, announced their extensive Fall schedule which includes shows across NYC. The series is also comprised of twelve residencies in collaboration with multiple partners, as well as seven W&P commissions on tour.

This coming Fall, Works & Process will provide a number of exciting diverse shows for patrons to enjoy. Taking place at the Guggenheim Museum, Manhattan West, and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, there are plenty of opportunities for unique experiences across the city. The non-profit organization helps foster productions’ journeys from workshop to stage. W&P allows artists to explore their projects without having to worry about the costs and risks of insurance, housing, and studio space.
Furthermore, performance works commissioned by Works & Process for LaunchPAD, which, stands for “Process as Destination” will go on tour. Additionally, the LaunchPAD program allows artists to explore and execute their craft, which is fully funded and has fourteen partners across Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York. Subsequently, Artists have the opportunity to share their crafts and hard work all over the country as well as internationally.

Kicking off the season is Gather Round, an outdoor series taking place at Manhattan West Plaza event circle. The series is in partnership with Brookfield Properties Arts & Culture and is free for anyone to watch. Works & Process will host breakdancers as well, to celebrate street and club dance battles every Wednesday in September. The multiplicity of events that Word & Process has to offer in addition to the number of locations, establishes the importance of the performing arts and making it available to the public.
The schedule includes special W&P commissions, full-blown productions featuring skilled artists, in-depth discussions, and exclusive Guggenheim member experiences, among many other various showcases. Works & Process LaunchPAD “Process as Destination” Residencies
As part of their historic farewell tour, Foreigner will play at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) on July 30th. The local Broadalbin-Perth High School Choir (BPHS) will join the group for a performance of the legendary hit “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
In the lead-up to their tour, Foreigner began a contest to involve local schools in their performances. Among the many schools that submitted audition tapes was BPHS, who Foreigner ultimately chose to perform alongside at their Saratoga Springs show. Choir director Alex Hitrick recalled the immense work the students put into this audition. “I had the students figure out the harmonies sung by the New Jersey Mass Choir in the original song, arrange it, then sing it as a group.” To Hitrick, the student’s “ability to put their passions on display while having fun” made their tape stand out.
The BPHS Choir has grown immensely since director Alex Hitrick began five years ago. When he began, the choir only consisted of 12 students, but has since grown to 68. This upcoming year, they will have enough students to field two choirs. These students’ hard work has allowed them to return to the NYSSMA major festival for the first time in years. In light of all of this progress, Hitrick views their upcoming show with Foreigner as “absolutely a natural progression. The students not only put in the work that it takes to be stronger musicians, but have put their hearts into everything they do.”
Since winning the contest, the students have continued to work hard at their musical craft. BPHS will send 25 students to perform alongside Foreigner. These students have worked to fine tune all details of the song during rehearsals leading up to the show. As Hitrick admits, “While they may be a little nervous to be singing in front of thousands, I know being in the moment with each other surrounded by music will calm any nerves they may have.”

The main feeling surrounding the choir is excitement. Hitrick noticed that most students “have only heard snippets of music created from the 60s to 80s.” While many were aware of Foreigner’s hits, they did not know much about the band. After explaining Foreigner’s status as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, the students recognized how important they really were. Now, Hitrick says “They cannot contain their excitement.” He specifically wanted to shout out one of his students “who will be singing every word to every song that they play.”
This performance has already had major impacts on the Broadalbin-Perth music program. Hitrick believes that the publicity from this performance will increase numbers for the choir. He expects that all music ensembles and extracurricular activities in the district will also receive a boost. This new interest can help students explore the “many different avenues of music that students can pursue.” In addition to increased interest, there are more immediate benefits to the performance. As part of the contest, Foreigner will donate $500 to the choir program to aid in its operations.
Hitrick believes that music is a fundamental part of education, “it is the time of day when we get to engage our brains in a different way. It’s the time when students don’t have to think about the pile of standardized tests they have to take or the insurmountable stress that is weighing them down.” In the end, music and creativity is what makes us human, so “When shaping well-rounded individuals to be the best that they can be, we mustn’t neglect the creative side to humans, and in our case, the future of music education.” Based on what Hitrick sees in his students, he says “the future of music looks bright.”
The performance at SPAC comes as part of Foreigner’s historic farewell tour with Styx. This tour comes after a near 50-year career that propelled Foreigner into rock stardom. Across their nine studio albums, Foreigner has racked up 14 top 20 hits. Audiences are sure to know tunes like “Cold As Ice” and “Juke Box Hero.” 2024 marks a big year for the band beyond just this tour. Foreigner’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction is also scheduled for October 19th.

In celebration of “Christmas in July,” Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. has announced that America’s most beloved holiday show, the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, will be returning to the Great Stage at Radio City Music Hall from November 8, 2024, through January 5, 2025.

A staple of the holidays in New York City, the awe-inspiring Christmas Spectacular features intricate choreography performed by the incomparable Radio City Rockettes throughout nine show-stopping numbers. The production, which can only be seen at Radio City Music Hall, blends classic numbers that audiences know and love, such as “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” with innovative technology that extends the show beyond the stage, including immersive digital projections.
In “Dance of the Frost Fairies,” the production’s newest number, which was introduced in 2022, the Rockettes perform alongside Frost Fairy drones that magically fly above the audience, turning Radio City into a winter wonderland. Since it opened at Radio City in 1933, the Christmas Spectacular has brought holiday joy to more than 71 million people from around the world.
The Radio City Rockettes, the longest-running precision dance company in America, are renowned for their unity, athleticism and iconic precision style that combines elements of ballet, jazz, and tap, as well as techniques of modern and contemporary dance. In addition to the Christmas Spectacular, the Rockettes perform annually in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Christmas in Rockefeller Center tree lighting and have appeared as part of some of the biggest events in entertainment, including the Tony Awards, the MTV VMAs, the NYC Pride Parade, and “Saturday Night Live.”

Blues-rock superstar Joe Bonamassa is one of the most celebrated performers of today. As a three-time GRAMMY-nominated artist and 15x Blues Music Award nominee (4-time winner), he achieved his 28th No. 1 album on the Billboard Blues Chart with his most recent live album and concert film, Live at the Hollywood Bowl With Orchestra. Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s combination concert venue, bowling alley, bar and restaurant, Brooklyn Bowl, has announced a two-night celebration for their 15th anniversary, hosting GRAMMY Award-nominated, six-piece, funky music collective Lettuce on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29.
An NYC landmark, Brooklyn Bowl’s blend of live music, bowling, and exceptional cuisine has become a cornerstone of NYC’s nightlife over the last 15 years. Located in a historic 19th-century Hecla Iron Works building, Brooklyn Bowl was the first venue to bring together live music and 16 lanes of bowling in New York City, and with the great success replicated around the country, with locations in Nashville, Philadelphia and Las Vegas.
The venue has hosted over 5,000 shows to date, including performances from musical legends like Questlove, M.I.A., Snoop Dogg, Lauryn Hill and Childish Gambino. Beyonce, Lorde, Neil Patrick Harris, Spike Lee, Bill De Blasio, former President Bill Clinton and members of the Brooklyn Nets have also all attended Brooklyn Bowl as special guests, in addition to the over 350,000 guests who attend annually.
The venue also boasts food by the Blue Ribbon restaurant group—famous for its finger-licking fried chicken—and serves locally crafted beers, many of which are from Brooklyn Brewery, located right next door.
With countless accolades, like being named Zagat’s “Best Music Club” three years in a row, being nominated for “Nightclub of the Year” by Pollstar and as one of the best restaurants in NYC by Trip Expert, Brooklyn Bowl has cemented its status as one of the best all-in-one concert, food and entertainment destinations in New York, something that Lettuce will be celebrating this September.
