  • ONCO Fermentations in Tully Announces Sunday Blues Series for 2025

    ONCO Fermentations, located in Tully, NY, has announced a new Sunday Blues Series for 2025. The brewery, kitchen and event space, opened in 2019, is located 20 minutes south of Syracuse, and showcases regional musicians on most Fridays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays.

    The brewery in Tully is centrally located right off Route 81 (Exit 67) on the edge of Onondaga and Cortland counties, making ONCO a draw for customers from Binghamton to the North Country, and from as far as the Finger Lakes. With this geographical positioning, ONCO helps acts that may otherwise play in a concentrated local area, making Tully a destination for folks looking for live music that don’t want to drive to a city, or those fans who enjoy a short, scenic drive into the near-rural area.

    While the early music schedule at ONCO has been based on musician schedules and other events at the brewery, 2025 is the first year patrons can expect music every Sunday – with very few exceptions.

    ONCO is filling in most Sundays with the blues this year, one of the brewery’s favorite styles of music. Founder and Tap Room Manager Erin Bullard is a huge promoter of all of her acts, often saying “We put an urban warehouse brewery in rural America,” even though Tully isn’t truly rural.

    All shows are free of charge at ONCO, which straddles the line of listening room and bar, with a roughly 100 person main tasting room atmosphere that is festive as well as appreciative when the music plays. 

    In 2022 the brewery opened the Neo Kitchen within their space, focusing mainly on cold fermented Neapolitan pizzas, but a small expansion of offerings is currently under development. The brewery brews its own award-winning beer, and also offers nonalcoholic options, wine, hard cider and a selection of cocktails.

    These three threads bring people back to ONCO time and time again – beer, food, and music. The brewery also has a 3,500 square foot “Back Space” area for patron overflow and alternate activities during the shows, and a large outdoor beer garden adjoins the facility. When the weather warms up, all music is scheduled to be outside, but will be located inside if the weather is unpleasant.

    There will be no blues on select days – Superbowl Sunday, Easter, and a special events including F.I.R.E. Festival on March 9 with Jess Novak, the brewery’s 6th Anniversary Weekend Party finale on March 16, and ONCtOberfest on September 21, as well as other occasional music showcase treats.

  • On Air Fest Announces New Wave of Speakers For Feb 2025

    In February 2025 over three days, four nights and held in six locations (with 80+ Sessions & 200+ speakers) On Air Fest’s Annual Sound and Storytelling Festival will take place, where podcasts are elevated into an art form and expanded through voice, visuals and multi-sensory experiences.

    Over February 19-21, 2025, these 80+ live performances and podcast tapings, exhibitions and multi-sensory experiences, intimate talks and interactive workshops are designed to help those in the music industry level up skills and more. Thousands of creators and creative professionals working in audio, visual and new media will all come together as part of the annual event’s most dramatically expanded line up to date, and today, On Air Fest announces its next wave of featured talent.

    From artists to industry leaders to the influential voices defining the medium, each session will be focused on the ways in which audio is being used to shift culture, build brands, and shape the future of storytelling, social media and self-expression.

    Taking over multiple floors at its returning headquarters of the Wythe Hotel, as well as first-time locations like the 15,000 square-foot Creator Hall at XXV, iHeartPodcasts’ Official Party at 74 Wythe, music and arts venue National Sawdust, and Dolby88’s VIP theater for film screenings,

    NPR’s Throughline will present cinematic soundscapes, Twenty Thousand Hertz’s Dallas Taylor will deliver a workflow workshop, The Atlantic’s Hanna Rosin and Lauren Ober will conduct an “Anatomy of a Scene,” Craig Finn and Jody Avirgan will debut their brand new Talkhouse Network podcast in an exclusive first-look, and Elliot Krimsky and Benjamin Louis Brody will perform and discuss Shared Spaces, a musical exploration of collective loss and memory.

      Previously revealed programming ranges from SNL’s James Austin Johnson and Jokermen to The Kid Mero’s Victory Light Podcast, Alex Goldman of Hyperfixed and Reply All, Design Matters’ Debbie Millman, Modern Love’s Anna Martin, Radiolab creator Jad Abumrad, The New York Times’ Jenna Wortham, Snap Judgment’s Anna Sussman and many more, as well as KCRW and On Air Fest’s inaugural KCRWWW – a pop up radio lounge that will live-stream music, talks and sonic experiments, free and open to the public through a dedicated microsite.

But it all begins on February 19th, with the On Air Fest Podcast Business Summit.     • Tryst La Noir Returns with “Dirty & Wild” New Single, “Goddamn!”

      The Hudson Valley’s busiest goth triple-threat, musician/DJ/burlesque queen Tryst La Noir, has returned with a new single that’s as “raw, dirty and wild” as love itself, a sonic blast entitled “Goddamn!”

      Tryst’s latest is another preview of tunes earmarked for her as of yet untitled third album slated for release in Spring 2025. Earlier this year, Tryst and her collaborator, Brooklyn-based producer/guitarist Steve Woodzell, unleashed a duo of singles from the album  “Bathwater Blues” and “Oh Lover”.

      Tryst says, “In comparison to my previous albums, this will be my most vulnerable yet. I have been experimenting with instruments and sounds that I never had before.  And when it comes to the writing process, especially the lyrics, I am not sugarcoating anything.”

      The fierce “Goddamn” bears some of the hallmarks of Tryst’s greatest musical influences, including Nine Inch Nails, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, Morphine, and even the bluesy love laments of jazz songbird, Billie Holiday. “I really love old blues music from the 40s, along with 60s psychedelia, 80s goth, 90s grunge and post-punk.  My music is a mash-up of all these styles, with an accent on full-on passion and energy.”

      Tryst’s newest single slams a slow industrial groove, accented with a dense mix of fuzzy guitars, impossibly big beats, howling synths, and her caterwauling vocals. Lyrically, the song profiles a fiery love affair that sparks a combustible attraction between lovers that comes with an overdose of both passion and toxicity.

      But music is just one facet of Tryst’s busy career. She also works as a DJ at leading area clubs, including Pearl Moon, Colony Woodstock, and The Avalon Lounge. Tryst also serves as a performer and host of a series of burlesque nights produced by Strangehouse, an event and video production concern she runs with her partner, musician/videographer Byron Frayne.

      Look for Tryst La Noir spinning at Kingston’s Unicorn Bar for its Bowie Birthday Ball on January 24 and her ongoing Friday Night Fever at Colony Woodstock on January 3.  She will also bring her burlesque spectacular to the Colony on Valentine’s Day.

    • Your Guide to Pre and Post-Shows during Phish’s MSG New Years Eve Shows

      From Dec. 28-31, the annual Phish at Madison Square Garden four-night run will return to ring in the new year.

      With this, Creative Entertainment Group (CEG) has announced the initial lineup of pre and post-shows for each date with more announcements to come.

      CEG has also shared that $1 of each ticket will be donated to Phish’s WaterWheel Foundation.

      Dec. 28 – Steely Dead, Neighbor

      Steely Dead will be playing both a pre-party at 4 pm and an after-party at 11:55 pm at the Hill Country. The price is $25 per person and pre-party and after-party tickets are sold separately. The Steely Dan and Grateful Dead cover band began in Denver, Colorado and is now a national touring band. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

      Phish After Shows

      Neighbor will be playing a live after-party at the Cutting Room from 11:55 on through the night. The band has a diverse catalog of hundreds of songs that brings elements of Americana, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Soul, and more. Tickets are $25 per person and the event is 21+.       Phish After Shows

      Dec. 29 – Space Bacon, Near Dead Experience

      The Near Dead Experience is a Brooklyn-based Grateful Dead cover band, fronted by a group of musicians who connected on Reddit. They will play a Phish pre-party hosted at the Hill Country Live. Doors open at 3 pm, and the show starts at 4 pm. Tickets are $24.90 and the event is open to all ages. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

      The Brooklyn-based future jam quartet Space Bacon will play live at the Hill Country from 11:55 pm through the night. Tickets are $20 for tier 1 which includes general admission and $25 for tier 2 which includes DOS. This event is 21+. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

      Dec. 29 & 30 – Medeski, Martin, Metzger & Cline

      For two nights the supergroup of Medeski, Martin, Metzger & Cline, will play the after-party at the Sony Hall starting at 11:59 pm. John Medeski and Billy Martin of Medeski Martin & Wood will be joined by Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Scott Metzger and Wilco’s guitarist Nels Cline. The group first performed together in 2019 on Dec. 28 then again in 2023 on Dec. 30 and now for the first time, they will play two nights.

      Dec. 31 – Funk Sauce Dance Party, Tad Cautious, Shakedown Citi

      Grateful Dead cover band, Shakedown Citi, channels the spirit and energy of the Dead without trying to copy them. They will perform a pre-show for the NYE Phish concert at Hill Country Live, beginning at 4 pm. Tickets are $24.90 and the event is open to all ages. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

      Host on Sirius XM’s Phish Radio, Tad Cautious, will be joined by friends Ari Fink, DJ Blender and DJ Cooley, to perform at the NYE post-party.       Closing out the four nights of Phish after-parties is the Funk Sauce Dance Party hosted by dj AF (Ari Fink) & Tad Cautious with DJ Cooley and the mysterious DJ Blender.     • The Local: A Cultural Extravaganza in Saugerties ready for 2025

      The Local in Saugerties, is set to dazzle audiences with an inclusive range of creative talents of nearly 30 music, dance, and cultural events from January to May, 2025.

      This vibrant venue has quickly become a cultural hub since opening in 2023, hosting a variety of acclaimed acts and workshops designed to celebrate global and local artistry, with genres featured range from jazz to folk pop and even Tuvan throat singing.

    • The Felice Brothers To Rock from Brooklyn to Kingston to Close Out the Year

      After a hugely successful European tour, 2024 will be culminating with five highly anticipated shows for The Felice Brothers.

      The band’s end of the year run of shows kicks off Friday, December 27 in Williamsburg at Brooklyn Bowl, followed by a show at Brooklyn Bowl in Philadelphia. December 29 finds the group in Rockville Centre at Centre Station, and round the year out with two hometown shows for this incredible Americana band at brand new venue Assembly Kingston.

      The Felice Brothers call the Catskill Mountains home, yet much of their success to their early days busking and playing in around New York City. Playing unplugged wherever they could the band found their distinct sound and style, penning such songs as “Frankie’s Gun” from their self titled album and covering “This Land Is your Land” like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, whom Ian Felice’s songwriting has been compared with.

      With three new brilliant records the past three years and an entire catalogue from the past 20 years, The Felice Brothers have been leaving audiences in awe with their foot stomping sing alongs, to tender ballads and everything in between.

      Through 18 official releases and gosh knows how many secret recordings (check out their black limo recording), The Felice Brothers have stuck to their roots, while experimenting (“Celebration, Florida”), finding new form and maturing as musicians all while capturing the heart of American life, strife, beauty, grit, struggle and the knowledge that each soul has their own unique story. From the rowdiness of their live record Tonight at the Arizona (which was also re-issued ten years later as part of a special record store day recording) to the more produced Yonder is the Clock during their first decade as a band is amazing to go back through as a listener.

      This writer was lucky enough to attend the 2019 and 2023 NYE concerts at Colony Woodstock and the band brought in many special guests, playing on songs old and new, amazing covers and so ,many special moments that left all smiling from ear to ear right into the New Year. The Felice Brothers are sure to bring out many more such more moments in celebration of their 20 year Anniversary as America’s top Americana band and the critically acclaimed songwriting that stands the test of time as well as the appreciation of their peers.

      The band shared their thoughts on the upcoming shows: “Friends and loved ones, we are doing it again! Holiday shows! Some old favorites and a NEW never before rocked venue in Kingston. Now you know what you’re doing to close out 2024.”

      The Felice Brothers have had a few lineup shakeups as their brother Simone moved along very nicely with a solo career, and the band found a new stride in 2014 with the release of Favorite Waitress. The new lineup also but out an incredible record Undress in 2019 and in the past few years has put out From Dreams To Dust (2021), Asylum On The Hill (2023), and Valley of Abandoned Songs (2024) which they have just finished a European tour supporting. Each record is a set of new treasures, and both Ian and James Felice have truly found their voices and are complemented so well by the backline and backing vocals of Jesske Humme (bass), Will Lawrence (drums).

      Located in Kingston’s vibrant Uptown/Stockade District, Assembly Kingston is poised to become avcornerstone of the region’s burgeoning arts and culture scene. These New Year’s Eve performances will be a special homecoming for the band, who will take the stage to ring in 2025 with their signature blend of folk, rock, and heartfelt storytelling.

      The Felice Brothers’ return home this December will surely lead to an unforgettable New Year’s Eve celebration. The beloved Americana band will perform two back-to-back shows on December
      30 and 31, marking the highly anticipated inaugural event at the brand-new venue, Assembly Kingston.

    • J.D. Parran and Andrew Drury To Host Venue UNinauguration at Assisted Living

      Musicians J.D. Parran and Andrew Drury have announced new roles as event curators along with a collaborative opening project at Assisted Living, a new art space in Newburgh.

      Both renowned musicians and collaborators in their own rights, J.D. Parran and Andrew Drury share expansive musical careers.

      Among many things, Drury is a soloist, lead for the Content Provider quartet and other large ensembles, producer of audio and video works, a musical collaborator across all swaths of sounds, and a musical educator. 

      He’s presented over 130 concerts as a part of his Soup & Sound series in his home in Brooklyn and in adjacent neighborhoods, and is the co-founder of the non-profit Continuum Culture & Arts. In addition to work in his own neck of the woods, Drury has given masterclasses in 20 universities across three continents and has led over 1,500 workshops in schools, prisons, museums, homeless shelters, and more. 

      J.D. Parran shares a similar love for music in all forms- composing, collaborating, and educating. Having mastered a wide variety of woodwind instruments, Parran has appeared on over 50 recordings over the past three decades including collaborations with John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Yoko Ono, and more. 

      In addition to his purely musical endeavors, Parran is also a veteran educator who gives lectures at City University of New York and teaches the clarinet and saxophone at Harlem School for the Arts.

      He has also been commissioned as a composer by the likes of the National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Helen W. Buckner Foundation.

      Hosted in the Assisted Living art space situated just behind the brand new Untouchable Bar, Drury and Parran will be collaborating in an event dubbed an “UNinauguration.”

      “Part riot, part manifestation, part protest, part prayer: two celebrated stalwarts of creative music share good musical medicine on the grim occasion of the 2025 presidential inauguration. Indeed this is an UNinauguration. J. D. Parran and Andrew Drury will play a panoply of instruments from around the world in addition to bass saxophone, alto clarinet, flutes, and drums. Parran led an unInauguration mini-tour with a quartet in 2017. For 2025 he joins forces with his frequent collaborator Drury.”

      Featuring the powerful combination of two skilled individuals, the UNinauguration of Assisted Living will not be one to miss. The pair will perform this exciting event on Friday, January 17 at 9:00 PM with a requested donation of $10.

    • Rose Theater in NYC Hosts Premiere of “Blind Injustice” Performed by MasterVoices this February

      On February 3 and 4, Artistic Director Ted Sperling leads the 120–member MasterVoices Chorus in the premiere of the acclaimed opera, “Blind Injustice.” The show takes place at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

      “Blind Injustice” features music by Scott Davenport Richards and libretto by David Cote. The opera tells the true story of the Ohio Innocence Project’s work to overturn the convictions of six men, women, and teens who were wrongly imprisoned for violent crimes they didn’t commit. The opera is based on the book of the same name by Mark Godsey and the casework by the Ohio Innocence Project at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. The inspiring 90-minute work in staged presentation showcases an operatic score infused with jazz, gospel, funk, hip-hop, and musical theater. The shows take place on Feb 3 and 4 at 7:30pm.

      “Blind Injustice” makes its New York premiere following a critically praised world premiere at Cincinnati Opera in 2019 and a subsequent production at PEAK Performances at Montclair State University (MSU) with Ted Sperling conducting and members of the MasterVoices Chorus joining MSU choristers in February 2024. Immediately following each performance, there is a 30-minute moderated conversation with four exonerees portrayed in the opera: Nancy Smith, Laurese Glover, Clarence Elkins, and Rickey Jackson, as well as artists and experts working in the field of criminal justice reform. Conversations are free to ticket holders.

      MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale) was founded in 1941 by legendary American choral conductor Robert Shaw. Under the artistic direction of Tony Award winner Ted Sperling since 2013, the group is known for its versatility and a repertoire that ranges from choral masterpieces and operas in concert to operettas and musical theater. Season concerts feature a volunteer chorus of 100+ members from all walks of life alongside a diverse roster of world-class soloists from across the musical spectrum.

      One of today’s leading musical artists, Tony Award-winning Maestro Ted Sperling is a classically trained musician whose career has spanned from the concert hall and the opera house to the Broadway stage. Presently Artistic Director of MasterVoices, he has led such symphony orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Boston Pops, San Diego Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, the Iceland Symphony, Czech National Symphony, and BBC Concert Orchestra, as well as New York City Opera and Houston Grand Opera.     • Felice Brothers Announce NYE Shows at Assembly

      On Dec. 30 and 31, in Kingston, The Felice Brothers, joined by special guest Merce Lemon, will perform two back-to-back shows for a New Year’s Eve celebration. These shows will mark the first-ever performances to be held at the brand-new Assembly concert venue.

      The Felice Brothers return to New York after a European tour through the fall in support of their newest album, Valley of Abandoned Songs. The beloved Americana band began with Ian (guitar and lead vocals) and James (multi-instrumentalist and vocals) playing their songs for travelers at home in the Catskills. They have since expanded to include bassist Jesske Hume (Conor Oberst, Jade Bird), the inaugural female member of the Felice Brothers, and drummer Will Lawrence (also a singer/songwriter) as their rhythm section.

      Merce Lemon will support the Felice Brothers at their shows in the Northeast. Following the release of her stunning 2024 album, Watch Me Drive Them Dogs Wild, Lemon’s pairing with the Brothers is a wonderful combination that blends her alt-country sound with the Brothers’ mellower, folky style. If you like the Felice Brothers, you’ll love Merce Lemon.
