It’s been close to a decade since Paul Kelly – Australia’s finest export this side of wombats – has played in the U.S., and he’s coming to le poisson rouge in New York City this fall in support of his brand new album Fever Longing Still set for release on November 1.

Lovingly dubbed the Land Down Under’s Bruce Springsteen, Kelly’s new LP is a throwback to poetic love, with its title coming from a line in Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 147,” whose writing has thrilled and inspired Kelly ever since schooldays.

Paul Kelly’s Le Poisson Rouge show is at 7:30 pm, with doors at 6:30 pm and are on sale here. Support will be provided by Paul Kelly’s nephew, singer-songwriter-guitarist Dan Kelly.
Other tour stops currently include the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles, California on October 7, followed by an appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival on October 11.

Mark Perro, co-founder of punk group The Men, will create an original, live musical score for the 1922 silent horror classic Nosferatu on Saturday, October 12 at Story Screen Cinema in Hudson, NY.

Perro, a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter, co-founded The Men, known for their genre-blending sound that spans punk, rock, and experimental music.
The evening is co-presented by Upstate New York-based film programmers Sleepover Trading Co., who will create an exclusive retro clip show featuring vintage trailers, commercials and other oddities that will play before the feature. Based in Catskill, Sleepover Trading Co. is dedicated to retro VHS, toy and comic culture with the goal of recreating your perfect childhood sleepover, and are known for their custom made clip shows, presenting screenings of cult classic films throughout the Hudson Valley.
I’ve known Mark since The Men were a three piece playing the back room at Tommy’s Tavern. We are very excited for him to bring the noise to one of the world’s most famous silent films.

This unique event is part of Story Screen’s month-long Story Scream HorrorShow X series, celebrating all things spooky and cinematic in the month of October. The live scoring also marks Perro’s first live score, having released nine albums and four EPs with The Men, including 2023’s New York City and 2024’s Manhattan Fire.
The Men
Nosferatu, directed by F.W. Murnau, is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and continues to one of the most unsettling vampire films ever made. Portrayed by Max Schreck, the bald, spidery vampire has influenced countless incarnations throughout contemporary cinema in the century following its release. Famed critic Roger Ebert said of Nosferatu in 1997, “To watch F.W. Murnau’s “Nosferatu” (1922) is to seethe vampire movie before it had really seen itself. Here is the story of Dracula before it was buried alive in clichés, jokes, TV skits, cartoons and more than 30 other films. The film is in awe of its material. It seems to really believe in vampires.”
The screening and performance will take place at Story Screen Cinema, a community-focused movie theater located at 160 Fairview Ave, Hudson, NY. Story Screen also offers a full array of food, cocktails, non-alcoholic drinks and local beers plus an extensive pinball and arcade game collection. Known for its creative programming and love for cinema, Story Screen Cinema brings together film lovers and casual viewers alike for unforgettable experiences.
Additionally, the Crandell Theatre in Chatham, will go back to its roots on Friday, October 4 at 7 pm and screen Nosferatu with musician and silent film historian Ben Model accompanying the film on theater organ, brought in for one very special night, allowing the audience to experience the film just as it sounded upon its original release in 1922. Tickets are $25 and $20 for members.
Brooklyn Bowl has announced the return of the annual Rosh Hashanah music bash, set to return October 2 and 3. This year marks the event’s 13th year.
Beginning at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 2 and 10 A.M. on Thursday, October 3, both musically driven services will feature Rabbi Daniel Brenner with musical director Jeremiah Lockwood. Also included are Antibalas’ Jordan McLean and Timothy Allen, drummer John Bollinger, saxophonist Stuart Bogie and Yula Berri on vocals and bass.
Internationally renowned teacher Jane Tuv will also lead a guided meditation at each event. There will also be Torah reading and procession led by Rabbi Brenner, as well as prayer, and shofar blowing. After the services on October 2nd, Brooklyn Bowl hosts a spiritually driven jam session featuring members of the service’s house band as well as additional guests. After services on October 3rd at 12:30 P.M., there is a lunch provided by Blue Ribbon with purchase of a ticket.
All proceeds will support the non-profit organization Shalom Y’all Jams, which works to organize holiday services at non-traditional locations. Brooklyn Bowl was ranked the number one busiest club in NYC in 2017. This celebration of Rosh Hashanah may very well love up to that title this October. Swing 46 in NYC has announced the special screening of award-winning documentary on the venue, titled “Swing 46: The Last Swingin’ Supper Club.” The airing takes place on October 6 at the jazz club itself.
The famous jazz and supper club Swing 46 prepares to host an honorable screening along with a Q&A session with the filmmaker. The night gives a snapshot of this historic music venue, which has been a home of music, performance, dancing, and memories for decades. The documentary tells the tale of a music venue born out of the retro swing renaissance of the late 90’s, hosting live music, diners, and dancers for nearly three decades.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has taken its toll on this great music venue which features live music six nights a week, acclaimed food, and a stunning atmosphere that has drawn many globally. A portion of the funds raised will benefit Swing 46’s daily operations and expenses helping to sustain this iconic music and supper club.
In addition to providing a home to the New York City Swing Dance Community and world renowned artists, Swing 46 became a beloved tourist destination, welcoming jazz fans and dancers from around the world. If funding does not become available to help this beloved club pay ongoing bills like rent, utilities, payroll to staff, and other necessities, it will not be able to continue to operate. Swing 46 may be forced to close its doors permanently and NYC will lose another precious live music venue.

Composer of the Oscar award winning score for acclaimed 2016 film La La Land Justin Hurwitz will be conducting the Wordless Music Orchestra for a once in a lifetime live-to-film concert experience at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, February 1.
For one night only, the Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall will be hosting award-winning composer Justin Herwitz as he conducts his work for critically acclaimed film La La Land with the Wordless Music Orchestra. A collaboration with Hurwitz Concerts, a company started in 2022 to produce live concerts of Justin Herwitz’s film scores worldwide, the evening is perfect for lovers of La La Land, musical score, and everything in between.
Most known for his work on the La La Land soundtrack that landed him two Academy Awards, A Golden Globe, and a BAFTA, Justin Herwitz is a longtime collaborator with director Damien Chazelle, scoring each one of his films- Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, Whiplash, La La Land, First Man, and Babylon, with First Man and Babylon each earning him an additional Golden Globe for Best Original Score respectively.
The Wordless Music Orchestra is the house band of New York’s Wordless Music series, founded by Ronen Givony. Presenting contemporary and classical concerts around the world, the Orchestra is composed of some of New York’s brightest young musicians who are incredibly familiar with performances of live scoring, with a repertoire including Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love, and Ryan Coogler’s Creed.
Hurwitz and Wordless Music Orchestra will come together in a swoon-worthy live performance of the La La Land soundtrack in synchronization to the film, which will be shown on a big screen. Beginning at 8:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, this exciting musical movie experience is not to be missed.

Electric funk group SunSquabi and rock band Doom Flamingo will be performing a co-headlining show at the Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs on September 14, both with 90 minute sets.
Bands Doom Flamingo and SunSquabi are teaming up for this double bill show Saturday, September 14. Both incredible performers in their own right, the show is sure to be a sonic adventure.
The first of two acts for the evening, Doom Flamingo is self-described as “80’s guilty pleasure vampire stripper rock.” Forming through friendships and previous collaborations, the band boasts a multitude of sounds and skills. With an energy that channels Miami Beach poolside lounges and the eerie sounds of old John Carpenter films, Doom Flamingo has carved their own corner of the music world out in the ever-admirable intent of simply making people dance.
The second act of the evening, SunSquabi has made it a habit to bend the rules of genre and sound to their own will. Best described as an “Electronic Hydro Funk Experience”, SunSquabi offers a unique live performance experience with their improvisational works that are performed so seamlessly it almost feels rehearsed. It’s no wonder why their shows are described as an atmospheric trip through space.

Phish surprised fans today with the announcement of a trio of fall shows at MVP Arena in Albany, slated for Friday, October 25, Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27. The fall weekend shows will benefit The Divided Sky Foundation.

Phish has a storied history in Albany, having played 17 shows in the city since 1989, starting at Pauly’s Hotel, and last having played in the Cradle of the Union in 2018. There are of course a history of shows in Saratoga Springs, both at Skidmore along with shows at SPAC, most recently in 2023 when Derek Trucks showed up, which was also a benefit, in that case for flood victims and recovery in Upstate New York and Vermont.
These October shows, however, will be the first ever three night run for Phish in Albany. Read more in our history of Phish in Albany – Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

100% of profits from the two shows will benefit the Divided Sky Foundation, which was established in 2020 during the Beacon Jams (held by Trey Anastasio at the Beacon Theatre over eight weeks during quarantine), to build and support a residential recovery program created for people who want recovery. With a non-clinical model, Divided Sky Foundation is designed to motivate and inspire without judgment, recognizing that addiction is a disease and not an absence of willpower.
Housing up to 46 guests, the Divided Sky facility is a newly-remodeled former hotel with a stunning view of nearby Okemo Mountain, offering a non-clinical program anchored in the 12 Steps, emotional sobriety, and mindfulness. The Albany benefit concerts will enable Divided Sky to continue to make its immersive Residential Recovery Program affordable to all, with partial scholarships available to those who demonstrate need.
A limited number of complimentary “Gratitude Tickets” will be made available to recovery professionals, recognizing their essential work helping individuals and families affected by addiction. Anyone who works in recovery or a related mental health field may request tickets at DividedSky.org/benefit. (Priority will be given based on geographic location, with an emphasis on New York State and New England.)
The Phish shows will take place at Albany’s MVP Arena (née Knickerbocker Arena, a.k.a. Pepsi Arena, Times Union Center), in downtown Albany on South Pearl Street. The weekend shows, while just before Halloween, are not implied to suggest any Halloween shenanigans as Phish is known for, but you can never rule out surprises with a pair of fall shows like this.
A ticket request period is open here until Monday, September 16 at 12pm. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 20, at 12pm. Travel packages are available here starting on September 11. A special pre-show reception will be held on Saturday, October 26. Tickets will be available for this event both during the Phish ticket request period and during the public on-sale.

Just ahead of Saturday Night Live’s 50th season premiere, SNL hosting duo and comedians Colin Jost and Michael Che will be premiering their never-before-seen live comedy special, New York After Dark, on September 12 at The Bell House in Brooklyn.

Hosts of SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment since 2014, Colin Jost and Michael Che have built a notable comedic rapport beloved by the show’s fans over the years in addition to their own individual accomplishments as comedians.
Now, after years behind the camera, the duo will be shining the spotlight on some of their favorite comics from New York City’s comedy scene- and possibly beyond- in a one night only live show in Brooklyn.
After ten years of comedy behind the screen, Jost and Che are moving to the stage for a brand new live comedy event at the historic Bell House. Recorded in front of an in-person audience, the hour-long special will feature “drop ins only”- meaning the exact guest list is unknown. However, audience members can expect some of the duo’s favorite acts, fresh faces to the industry, and possibly even a few household names.
In addition to the mystery lineup, Grammy-nominated musical ensemble 1500 or Nothin’ will be providing the evening’s soundtrack as well as accompanying performances throughout the night as the show’s house band.
The fivebyfive chamber ensemble announces its 2024-2025 season with the “Our Stories” concert series in Syracuse and Rochester, featuring “Fantastical Stories (Historias Fantásticas)” in the fall, “Enduring Stories” in the spring, and the release of their fourth album, Eclipse, to bridge the two programs.
fivebyfive is a Rochester based chamber ensemble of five professional musicians and one video and audio artist dedicated to cross-genre programming and commissioning new works from artists who are underrepresented in their field. Standard programs are composed of music written for flute, clarinet, electric guitar, piano, and bass- however, as is the norm with fivebyfive, this season is to be anything but standard. This year, new pieces will include banjo, fiddle, and voice.
The evolutions in this year’s programming does not stop there. In addition, the ensemble will be performing folk songs, ghost stories, ballads, and original poetry, as well as newly commissioned works by renowned composers Roberto Sierra and Emily Pinkerton.
For the fall concert series on October 5 and 6, fivebyfive will perform “Fantastical Stories (Historias Fantásticas)”, featuring a newly commissioned piece from Ithaca-based Grammy-nominated composer Roberto Sierra, Sonidos Del Tiön. Sierra utilized the Argentine poet Jorge Borges’ story to weave a composition of both fantasy and reality. In addition to Sierra, the concert will highlight other Latin American composers including Clarice Assad and Miguel del Aguila. Musicians from Society of New Music will perform select pieces as well.
In the Spring program on March 29 and 30, a mix of chamber and folk music will be performed in “Enduring Stories”, a collaboration between fivebyfive and songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emily Pinkerton of Albany. Throughout her new work “Ephemera Ballads” Pinkerton will play the banjo and fiddle alongside the ensemble, adding her voice to the mix as well. The ballads represent the lost voices of the Appalaichan and Catskills women of over two hundred years ago, whose stories of struggles with class, gender, and bodily autonomy still resonate to this day.
In addition to these two exciting programs, the ensemble will be releasing its fourth album Eclipse on November 8. Distributed by Grammy-nominated label Bright Shiny Things, Eclipse features four pieces commissioned by fivebyfive for last April’s North American Total Solar Eclipse.
Earlier this year, the ensemble held three sold-out shows at Rochester’s Strasenburgh Planetarium performing the tracks alongside an immersive video created by fivebyfive’s executive director Marc Webster. The composers include Jessica Meyer (“In the Path of Totality”), Marc Mellits (“Eclipse”), Kamala Sankaram (“Under the Shadow”), and Genesee Valley native Glenn McClure (“Totality”).
Performances for “Fantastical Stories (Historias Fantásticas)” will be at the Onondaga Community College in Syracuse on October 5 and the Hochstein Performance Hall in Rochester on October 6. For more details and tickets, please visit here.
