  • David Gilmour to Tour North America in 2016

    David Gilmour will tour North America in 2016, the first time in a decade.

    The Pink Floyd lead guitarist revealed details during an appearance over the weekend alongside wife and lyricist Polly Samson at the Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas in Ireland.

    During the question-and-answer session with Scottish writer Andrew O’Hagan, entitled “Lost for words,” Gilmour revealed the name of his new solo album due out in September: Rattle That Lock.

    David Gilmour TourDuring an autograph session after the discussion, Gilmour told a fan that he has plans to tour North America in 2016, according to the Pink Floyd-themed podcast Brain Damage hosted by Matt Leonard, aka “the Doctor.”

    Leonard also includes in the podcast a quick preview of two new songs that will be on the album, “Boots on the Ground” and the bluesy “Girl with a Yellow Dress” (around 1:30). The material was played from Gilmour’s iPhone, Leonard said in the podcast.

    Also during the session, Gilmour and Samson “touched on lyric writing and the nature of creativity, amongst other topics” and “the process of writing lyrics for both On An Island and The Division Bell, Polly expanded on the collaborative nature of her writing for David and Pink Floyd, and how rewarding it has proved to be,” according to Gilmour’s Facebook page.

    Gilmour is set to embark on a sold-out European tour this fall:
    Sept. 12 – Pula, Croatia
    Sept. 14 – Verona, Italy
    Sept. 15 – Florence, Italy
    Sept. 17 – Orange, France
    Sept. 19 – Oberhausen, Germany
    Sept. 23, 24, 25; Oct. 2, 3 – London, UK

  • Of Mice and Men’s Austin Carlile Hospitalized

    Austin Carlile — singer for Of Mice & Men — was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons forcing the band to cancel the remaining dates of the “Full Circle Tour” in San Diego and Mexico City.

    “Austin Carlile was admitted to a hospital yesterday morning, and, per doctor’s orders, has been kept in overnight for evaluation. The band regrets not being able to perform for their fans and hopes to be back in [San Diego and Mexico City] as soon as possible.

    “Refunds for both shows will be available at point of purchase. However, Of Mice & Men are planning to reschedule both shows for a later date in the year. We will have more news on this in the coming weeks and tickets holders are welcome to retain their tickets, as they will remain valid for these rescheduled dates.”

  • Dozens of Drug Arrests at Sterling Stage FolkFest

    Several dozen people were arrested on drug charges as part of a police sting. The 11th annual Sterling Stage FolkFest ran through Memorial Day Weekend, May 21-25 and featured Ryan Montbleau Band, among others. In all outside the venue, there were nine drug arrests for criminal possession of a controlled substance, one DWI arrest, 21 pot possession arrests and 87 vehicle and traffic violation tickets issued.

    Inside the venue, undercover police arrested 10 people for possessing or selling a controlled substance and four people for selling marijuana.

    State police held a press conference Tuesday to announce the results of the drug sting, which was aided by the Oswego County Drug Task Force, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, ICE, the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.

    Festival Producer Eric McElveen told Syracuse.com that the people who were arrested are people he doesn’t want at his event and he’s glad they’re gone, calling them bad apples.

    About 1,500 people attended FolkFest. Tickets for the festival cost up to $70, and overnight camping is included in every ticket.

    Sterling Stage has three more festivals scheduled this summer, the next being a 20-Year Anniversary Party headlined by Max Creek July 2-5.

  • Otis Mountain Get Down Announces Lineup Full of Variety

    This year’s Otis Mountain Get Down will have a great lineup including Stop Light Observations, the Dustbowl Revival and Wild Adriatic.

    Stop Light Observations is a “transformational rock” group from South Carolina. The Dustbowl Revival is a California-based group that plays old school-sounding Americana, bluegrass, swing and gospel tunes, and they’re releasing a new album this summer. And if you somehow don’t know by now, Wild Adriatic is Albany’s up-and-coming bluesy rock group in the vein of the Black Keys.

    The initial lineup also includes Saranac Lake’s The Blind Owl Band, always good for a foot-stomping good bluegrassy time; Bella’s Bartok, coming out of Massachusetts with a sound that mixes gypsy music with Modest Mouse-style alternative; Montreal musicians Busty and the Bass; the Suitcase Junket; Madaila, a pop group from across the lake in Burlington, Vt.; The Kids; bluegrass/Americana group Eastbound Jesus out of Greenwich, near Saratoga; Mosaic Foundation, a reggae group from the Finger Lakes; and On the Spot Trio, a funk/soul group from California; among others.

    Organizers made a Spotify playlist to help familiarize potential attendees with the group of artists they have booked.

    The third annual festival will be held Sept. 11 through 13 at Otis Mountain in Elizabethtown, the Eastern Gateway to the Adirondacks. Early bird tickets are on sale now for $40, and the price will increase before the festival arrives.

    On the eve of its official release, Decibel Magazine has a full album stream of Skinless Only The Ruthless Remain in its entirety.

  • Monster Energy Presents: Rock Allegiance Festival

    The “World’s Loudest Month” just wrapped up with Rockfest in Kansas City, Missouri – but rock fans have more to look forward to later this year. Yesterday the Monster Energy Rock Allegiance festival lineup was announced for Saturday, Oct. 10 at PPL Park in Chester, PA.

    The lineup consists of some of rock’s biggest names including Rob Zombie and Korn. With Rock Allegiance only being a one-day festival, fans don’t have to wait all weekend to catch their favorite bands; they get to see all of them in one day. Also making appearances at Rock Allegiance are Godsmack and Five Finger Death Punch, who were both present for many festivals throughout May.

    Five Finger Death Punch is bringing Papa Roach, In This Moment and From Ashes To New along with them since they will be hitting the road together this fall. If that wasn’t enough, fans can get ready for sets from Bring Me The Horizon, Atreyu, and Hollywood Undead. Those who went to Rock On The Range were treated to a special guest which turned out to be the newly formed Saint Asonia, featuring Adam Gontier, formally of Three Days Grace and Mike Mushok of Staind. Saint Asonia will be playing at Rock Allegiance as well.

    There’s not going to be much time for those who like to party outside the venue before the show because there are many more awesome bands who play earlier in the day. Some of those bands are Pop Evil, Nothing More, Butcher Babies, Art Of Dying, Glorious Sons, and Temperance Movement. The earliest acts of the day will consist of sets from the Charm City Devils, Devour The Day, Unlocking The Truth, Dorothy and more.

    If ending the night with sets from Korn and Rob Zombie wasn’t enough, there’s even an after party with Steel Panther! Best of all, tickets go on sale June 2nd at special early bird pricing! Floor tickets will start at $39.50 and will progressively rise to $79.50. Stadium Seat tickets start at $34.50 and go to $44.50 until the day of the show. There are also a limited number of VIP and Stadium 4 Pack deals. For those traveling from out-of-town, there are limited hotel packages offered to help save a couple bucks.   • 2015 Rockin’ on the River Lineup Announced

    North Tonawanda’s annual Rockin on the River series lineup has been announced for 2015.

    Kicking things off this year is Toronto’s USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker) – a two man alternative dance music/EDM group on July 10. July 17 will feature the dub/reggae beats of SOJA along with Rochester’s Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, North Tonawanda’s hottest groove rock export Aqueous, and Buffao’s Skyepilot. Rochester native and jukebox hero Lou Gramm will bring a slew of Foreigner hits and solo material to town July 31.  The series will end in a totally epic manner as Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes stops into town with friends and collaborators Railroad Earth.

    All shows are free, all ages and held at Gratwick Park. Those that want a closeup experience with some extra amenities can opt for VIP passes that go on sale June 20. Nearby parking is available for $5. Check out the full schedule below.

  • Is Korn Going Country?

    Johnathan Davis of Korn has worked on many music projects in the past which involved many different genres and styles of music, so why not try his hand at country? That’s right, Davis is shedding his black clothes and bag pipes for some cowboy jeans a red scarf and a rope. Well maybe not, but Davis is currently in the studio working on a ‘country music project’ with country superstars Big & Rich. Davis posted this photo on his Instagram.

  • Oak Mountain Announces Bluegrass Fest Lineup

    The Oak Mountain Bluegrass and Arts Festival is back for its third year, and it will be headlined by Utica-based Americana/folk group The Old Main.

    Also appearing will be Nick and Braids — banjo and fiddle player Nick Piccininni and mandolinist Jason Barady of Floodwood. The Deer Run Drifters, a bluegrass group from Virginia that features two sets of brothers, will also make an appearance, as will Swampcandy, a unique band from Maryland that features a singer/guitarist and a dude who plays upright bass while also using his feet to work a kick drum — creating a bluesy sound with a Louisiana swamp kind of feel.

    The festival takes place on Aug. 8 at Oak Mountain, a picturesque ski slope in Speculator that transforms in the summer to a great place for both music festivals and mountain biking. It is located at 141 Novosel Way in Speculator.

    Here’s how organizers describe this great festival:

    “This is Pure. Fun. and you don’t want to miss it! Join us for a celebration of music and arts in the mountains of the Adirondacks! Great food, great beer, lift rides and fun for the whole family!”

    Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and music starts at 1:30.

  • Stoops out, Sasser in as Kung Fu Keyboardist

    In a shocking statement, funk group Kung Fu announced that the band and founding member/keyboardist Todd Stoops have parted ways, and that Beau Sasser, of the Alan Evans Trio and Beau Sasser’s Escape Plan, will be his replacement.

    Stoops co-founded the band in 2009, and Kung Fu has been a staple of the festival circuit ever since, with a unique blend of psychedelic funk, high-energy rock and jazz.

    Here is the band’s official statement:

    Change is exciting, challenging, and a constant part of life. It is the process of evolution and growth. We do our best to embrace change in our lives and the music we play, and it is in this spirit that we announce that Kung Fu and Todd Stoops are parting ways.

    Todd is our brother, a brilliant musician, and composer. This decision has been difficult for everyone involved. We wish Todd nothing but the very best for his family, his musical endeavors, and we are grateful for everything he has contributed as a founding member of Kung Fu.

    We would like to give a gigantic welcome to Beau Sasser as our new keyboardist. Beau is most notable for his work with Alan Evans Trio, Melvin Sparks, Beau Sasser’s Escape Plan, The Z3, Uncle Sammy, Ryan Montbleau and more. He is a beast of a different flavor on keys, with incredible song writing skills, and we are very excited to have him on the Kung Fu team. With Beau on board, we know that Kung Fu will continue to be one of the best live bands on the scene.

    We would like to thank you, our loyal and dedicated fans, for your continued support! We can’t wait to see you this summer!

    Stoops took to Facebook to issue his own statement, seeming to tell a bit of a different story. It appears the band kicked him out via email, and that it may not have been a mutual decision:

    Dearest Family, Friends, and Fans,

    This is tough, but here goes…

    It has been the utmost honor to have performed for all of you with Kung Fu for the past 5+ years. I have experienced some of the greatest highs of my life onstage with the band that I co-founded, and I consider myself one of the luckiest humans alive to have been able to share that energy with all of you.

    From the bottom of my heart, thank you…

    After an incredible run out to the midwest for sets at SummerCamp and Revival, I came home to an email Tuesday from the rest of the band informing me that I was being replaced. Effective immediately.

    Needless to say, it was as shocking to me Tuesday afternoon as it must be to all of you reading this now…

    I can only wish the best for the remaining members of Kung Fu as they continue their journey. They are good musicians. With only two original members remaining, I’m excited to hear the evolution of that collective.

    Moving forward….. 

    I have always kept a commitment to myself to perform with as many different artists and projects as possible. Always with the intent of broadening my musical vocabulary, personal growth, and most importantly, learning from everyone I have had the opportunity of performing with.

    I fully intend on continuing this mission.
