  • Steely Dan To Play Eight Shows at NYC’s Beacon Theatre

    Steely Dan has announced their latest Beacon Theatre residency  which will take place for eight nights.  The shows start on Oct. 6 and ends on the 17.

    These nights will include Steely Dan performing their whole 1977 album Aja and 1980 album Gaucho with a few select hits. There will also be two nights focusing on their greatest hits such as “Do it Again”, “Reelin In The Years”, “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number.” Fans will be able to help pick the set list on October 16.

  • The Church and The Psychedelic Furs Announce 2015 Tour

    Post-punk romantics The Church released their 21st studio album album, Further/Deeper late last year and are bringing 35 years of recordings to North America on a co-headlining tour with art rock stalwarts The Psychedelic Furs. The Church recently premiered the first video from their newest album, Laurel Canyon , it’s thick and lush with layered acoustics, synths and harmonies, reminiscent of their huge hit, “Under The Milky Way” from 1988.

    The Psychedelic Furs are practically a perfect match for the tour and will be joining The Church on many of the dates. They’re also touring the east coast in May by themselves. Richard Butler, along with his brother Tim, still maintain their uncanny ability to write songs pleasing to the ear, while questioning their subject. Surfacing in the wake of punk rock, their melodious and thoughtful material sometimes put them in the category of a synth band, but don’t be confused – even if you still love “Love My Way”, don’t forget “Pretty In Pink” – that was inspiration for the 1986 John Hughes film of the same name.

  • ROC City Rib Fest Serves Up Hot Local Music This Weekend

    It’s Memorial Day weekend, the official opening of barbecue season. In Rochester, the land of festivals, what better way to celebrate then with a barbecue festival? Enter the ROC City Rib Fest. Local barbecue enthusiasts will gather in Genesee Valley Park to compete for the best smoked meats in the land.

    The festival opens 5pm Friday night and runs through Monday at 7pm. In addition to the ongoing barbecue competition, there will also of course be barbecue eating, food trucks, kids’ activities and a full slate of some of the best bands Rochester has to offer. Across two stages, the lineup includes top-notch tunes from Grand Canyon Rescue Episode and String Theory, smoking blues from Tommy Brunett and Fred Vine, soulful R&B from Mitty and the Followers, the return of world-influenced jammers John Payton Project and so much more.

    Tickets are $5 per day or $10 for a weekend pass. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong and the Genesee Valley Park. Find the full music schedule below.

  • Initial Lineup Announced for PhanArt Presents: ‘In All Good Company’ Chicago July Fourth Weekend

    Whether or not you have a ticket for one of the Grateful Dead’s Fare Thee Well shows at Soldier Field -Chicago will be the place to be 4th of July weekend. The windy city will host dozens of after shows and one very special art event. Part of the mix for the Dead Head invasion of Chicago is “PhanArt Presents: In All Good Company, Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Art.” The one-of-a-kind free art show will take place Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5 2015 from 12pm-6pm daily at the Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago, IL – only a mile from Soldier Field.

    Exhibited art includes limited edition posters, clothing, pins, tye-dyes, books, photography and other unique Grateful Dead inspired art from a variety of vendors and artists. Musical performances from Chicago bands Jack Straw and Under the Willow will compliment the artists throughout the art exhibition.

  • Free Outdoor Series in Lake Placid Headlined by Rusted Root

    Rusted Root will headline the season for Lake Placid’s free outdoor music series Songs at Mirror Lake.

    The lineup this year celebrates the series’ 10th season by bringing back some of the best acts that have played over the last 10 years.

    songs at mirror lake lake placidWhen Rusted Root last played the series in 2013, more than 1,000 people crowded into the tiny park on Lake Placid’s Main Street to dance to the ’90s alternative band with jam elements and world beats.

    Other successful acts including Amy Helm, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Lukas Nelson & POTR will also be back.

    The free shows run every Tuesday night from the end of June through the middle of August. The shows are played in Mid’s Park, a small park in the middle of the Adirondack village that edges on Mirror Lake. Attendees can dance in the park or paddle over in a boat (or on a dock) and catch the show from the water.

  • moe. to Play Children’s Benefit

    moe. will be the featured artist at an annual benefit for the Children’s Health Fund at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall.

    The June 1 benefit features tickets that range from $1,250 to $100,000, but a limited number of $75 balcony tickets are available for moe.rons who want to attend. Concert goers will have to adhere to a business casual dress code.

    The evening starts at 8 p.m. with an awards presentation, then moe. will play for a half-hour. A dessert and cocktail reception will follow.

    The Children’s Health Fund provides health care to the nation’s most disadvantaged children with 51 mobile health clinics serving more than 80,000 kids throughout the U.S. Those who can’t attend can still help.

    moe. also announced Tuesday that they’ll re-release a limited vinyl run of their first studio album “Fatboy,” in honor of the band’s 25th anniversary this year. The record will be on sale this weekend at Summer Camp, and it will be available in stores May 26. The run is limited to 3,000 copies, so get it while you can!

  • Catch Tony Markellis this Summer in Upstate New York

    Saratoga Springs bassist Tony Markellis has a busy summer ahead of him, and you can catch him performing with a wide variety of local and regional musicians across Upstate New York in the Hudson Valley. Notable is Tony’s residency at Saratoga’s Mouzon House, a comfortable family-owned fine dining and drinking establishment. Tony will be playing with different trios each Wednesday night from mid-May thru mid-October from 7-10 PM. More info can be found here.

  • Rochester’s Party in the Park 2015 Full Lineup and Information

    One of the most popular musical events in Western New York is the annual Windstream Party in the Park 2015 series in Rochester. The concerts moved back to the picturesque Manhattan Square Park last year – saving people from the infamous “Party in the Parking Lot” downtown.

    Tickets are a wallet friendly $5. Party Packs (for the general public) are available for $35 for tickets to all 9 shows and access to an express entry line – available at the Blue Cross Arena box office. Food trucks, local beer selections, and vendors will be on site every week. Regional bands will be featured on the lower Genesee Brewery “bowl” stage while the headlining acts will play on the ESL main stage in the field next to the skating rink.

    party in the park 2015Things kick off this year with Buffalo’s own moe. coming to town June 18. Jazz legend Taj Mahal comes in on June 25 George Clinton will funk up the place on July 9. Another Buffalo act – Aqueous – will open for the legendary Victor Wooten on July 30. Hometown heroes Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad will close things out on Aug 13. Some top notch regional acts such as Subsoil and Uptown Groove will debut on the big stage as well.

    The Genesee Brewery stage in the lower bowl area will feature some of Rochester’s best up and coming acts such as Danielle Ponder, Mochester, and Personal Blend.

    UPDATE: Due to health reasons Taj Mahal had to bow out of this years festivities, replacing him will be Boston’s funkiest band Lettuce!

  • Bogie’s to Close its Doors

    Legendary underground music venue, Bogie’s, in Albany, will be shutting its doors for business at the end of May. Upstate Black N Blue – who partly run and hold shows through multiple venues in the Capital Region – announced via Facebook that they are no longer able to able to keep the place running.

    Bogie's closeBogie’s officials cited financial problems as a cause for closing. Not enough people have come to shows to support costs between upkeep and regular bills. Bogie’s recently had a $10,000 crowd funded overhaul which covered a new roof, flooring, and other much-needed equipment.

    However, after a ‘state of our scene’ type meeting at the venue, attendees were given the down to earth truth: Bogies was not making ends meet, and the lack of support had become a strain for a while.

    Representatives of Upstate Black N Blue say that they will continue to hold live shows for underground musicians at nearby venues such as Upstate Concert Hall and Trickshots, as well as Fuze Box, which is just blocks away from Bogie’s.

    Bogie’s, which saw bands like Blink 182, Black Flag, as well as The Acacia Strain, and many more, will have its last show in Albany on May 31. Show lineup will include Recon, GhostXShip, Vice, Artisan, Before I Had Wings, and Towers.

  • Dylan Birthday Celebration to be Held in Woodstock

    For the seventh year in a row, Bob Dylan’s birthday will be celebrated with a benefit concert in Woodstock Memorial Day weekend.

    A group of Hudson Valley-based artists will perform Dylan’s hits at the Bearsville Theater at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 24.

    The current lineup features Happy Traum, Cindy Cashdollar, Jules Shear & Pal Shazar, The Stacks, Sara Fimm, Marc Black, Lindsey Webster, Eric Redd, Jerry Marotta, Zach Djanikian, Tim Moore, Kyle Esposito, Sin City, and The Saturday Night Bluegrass Band. More artists are to be announced.

    DylanSquareThe concert will benefit the Family of Woodstock’s Crisis Hotline and the John Herald Fund for musicians in need.

    Those looking to attend have the option of buying $45 non-premium seats, $65 premium seats, or $100 premium seats that also include raffle tickets to win a photo and signed poster of Bob Dylan.
