moe. has announced they will play a handful of tour dates for this summer, joined by Suke Cerulo on guitar and Nate Wilson on keys for a majority of the shows.
The shows were announced as “for the remainder of the year” meaning moe.rons will only have 8 chances to catch moe., following shows at Summer Camp Music Festival in May, and Norfolk Harborfest and City Bisco in June.
A free show on July 6 in Albany will take place at the Empire State Plaza, with a performance at Levitate in Marshfield, MA the next day, followed by Great South Bay Music Festival in Patchogue. They’ll then return to New York for two shows over Labor Day weekend in Lake George.
Sitting out the run is moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey as he continues to recover from a stroke. Brooklyn-based PEAK has released their second official live release in the band’s Hot Clips series. They’ll be in Manhattan this on Saturday, April 16, supporting Lespecial at Gramercy Theatre.
PEAK culled together Hot Clips 2 from some of their favorite jams from Summer and Fall 2021, including unreleased songs, songs from previous albums and a cover of Mac Demarco’s “Freaking out the Neighborhood.” The bookends to the album – “Path Paved with Roses” and groovy earworm “Starlight Child” – create a digestible sample of PEAK’s live experience, with a sound that harkens back to 90’s roots of the Northeast jam scene.
The PEAK quartet features songwriter and guitarist Jeremy Hilliard (Turbine), Kito Bovenshulte (Particle) on drums, Josh T. Carter (Haley Jane and The Primates) on bass, and Johnny Young on keys (Mick Taylor Band). The self-described pychedelic indie funk band can be found jamming extensively during live shows, and allow the songs on the album to speak for themselves.
The group released their sophomore studio album, Choppy Water, in October of last year, chocking the album full with groove-based psychedelic rock and plenty of funk, electro-pop, prog, and Americana. The deep, polished grooves from Carter and Bovenshulte complement Hilliard’s and Young’s solos, wailing with searing intensity. Check out their recent show at Brooklyn Bowl on November 30, 2021.

The Swyer Theatre at The Egg played host to a sold out afternoon performance on Sunday, April 10 by Triveni, featuring three of the greatest musicians in Indian classical music – Zakir Hussain, Kala Ramnath, and Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh. The three musicians have been honored in India and abroad with numerous awards, and have collaborated for Triveni’s initial tour in North America.
The mixed crowd drew from the large South Asian population in the Capital Region, all captivated by the sonic experience the trio had to offer this afternoon.
All three performers walked out shortly after 3pm, taking their seats behind their respective instruments. Hussain wished the crowd a happy Palm Sunday, and said that they were all very glad to finally be performing, which was greeted by loud applause from the audience. Ramnath and Kumaresh – wearing traditional saris – flanked Hussain on each side, with Ramnath playing violin to Hussain’s right and Kumaresh the Saraswati Veena.
Hussain noted they would treat the performance as a train on a journey, stopping at different stations. Noting the North Indian raga tradition background of Ramnath, and the South Indian veena of Kumaresh, Hussain served as the bridge for the two to meet, culminating in hypnotic interplay between all three and, at times, duets between them.
The combination of sounds from each of the stringed instruments joined with the tabla made for a consistent musical conversation, one with no breaks in between, just a constant flow from song to song. With the group’s name of Triveni derived from the mythical site of the union of three sacred rivers in India, the name was on point as a perfect one for this concert of musicians.
In one segment, after 20 minutes of continuous interplay between Ramnath and Kumaresh, Zakir joined in after quietly observed the pair. As the collaboration progressed, Hussain used the rapid drumming of his fingers on the tabla to drive the tempo of the “train” quickly uphill. After taking a lengthy solo, Hussain was joined by once again by Ramnath and Kumaresh, bringing the performance to a ferocious close.
After a slightly more than 90-minute set, the trio went out in front of their instruments to bow in appreciation to the audience. At this time, Hussain stepped back, allowing the women to soak in the appreciation from the Swyer Theatre audience.

Camila Cabello performed on this week’s Saturday Night Live, and brought along Willow for a duet of her new song “Psychofreak.” The American-Cuban artist performed previously on SNL in 2019, performing “Cry For Me” and “Easy.”
The Jake Gyllenhaal-hosted episode opened with President Biden (James Austin Johnson) congratulating new Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson (Ego Nwodim) on her Senate confirmation this past week. Jackson then met with fellow barrier-breakers Ruth Bader Ginsberg (Kate McKinnon), Thurgood Marshall (Kenan Thompson), Harriet Tubman (Punky Johnson) and Jackie Robinson (Chris Redd), before opening the show together.

On Friday, April 8, Camila Cabello released her third studio album, Familia, and took her second time on the Studio 8H stage to perform a pair of songs featured on the album.
Introduced by Gyllenhaal (who wore a Ramona and Gloria shirt to give his nieces a subtle shout out), the GRAMMY-nominated Cabello performed the lead single off the album, “Bam Bam,” a song dealing with heartbreak and promises broken.

For her second song, Cabello was joined by Willow (Smith, daughter of Will and Jada), who performed “Psychofreak” together, one day after release of the music video, which featured both artists in a setting that calls back to Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity.”

The Super Stash Bros are a band out of Killington, VT featuring Josh Jakab (Guitar), Nick Vittone (Bass), Josh Morse (Vocals), Vince FitzGerald (Guitar) and Blake Gowan (Drums). Their eclectic mix of genres has confused, disappointed and annoyed listeners for years.
MOS is Tim Lauben, Chris Kelly, Kurt Herrmann and Dave Mersch. Prior to the release of their latest, “Snowfences,” the band created the EP Ghosts I Knew. The bands recalls that on Easter Sunday 2020 someone texted them, “Could we try to write a song?” Over the next two years, MOS used Garageband and zoom/googlemeet to collaborate and whittle down more than 20 songs to a four song collection of demos called “Ghosts I Knew” that serves as the answer.
With Phish ready to will return to Madison Square Garden this month for four nights over April 20-23, post show plans are back as well, with CEG Presents their annual Phish After-Party series at a number of venues near MSG. The shows feature up and coming bands in the nationwide jam scene, including the debut of Funky as Hell, The DAB Sessions, Pink Talking Fish, Neighbor, Dogs in a Pile and Spafford.
Among these shows, CEG has just announced the debut of all-star supergroup Funky As Hell, celebrating the music of Prince, James Brown, Michael Jackson and more, at Sony Hall on April 21.
The artist lineup features bassist extraordinaire MonoNeon (Prince, Ghost-Note), vocalist Chris Rob (Talib Kweli), New York City’s DJ Logic, keyboardist Alric Carter (TAUK), trumpet players Chris Bullock & Mike “Maz” Maher both of Snarky Puppy, and The Chase Brothers (guitarist Matt Chase and drummer Adam Chase) of the James Brown Dance Party and Jazz is PHSH.
Previously announced for 4/20 is The DAB Sessions, an interactive improvisational experience, hosted by Phish lyricist Tom Marshall featuring John Medeski, Mono Neon, Scott Metzger, and The Chase Brothers, at The Cutting Room, just 3 blocks from Madison Square Garden.
Also on 4/20, CEG Phish After-Party series regular Pink Talking Fish, who fuse together the music of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish, will perform at Gramercy Theatre.
Two up and coming bands generating buzz in the jamband scene can be seen after Phish on 4/21 witu Neighbor at The Cutting Room and Dogs In a Pile on 4/23 at Hill Country. Arizona touring stalwarts Spafford will also perform at Sony Hall on April 23, the final night of Phish’s MSG run.

This past weekend, the Disco Biscuits joined the Double Digit Club at the legendary Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, performing three nights at the hallowed venue, bringing their total to eleven shows in all here. The whirlwind three nights of music featured some of the band’s most beloved songs meshed with some bustouts and first timers that all led to an incredible weekend of music at The Cap.

The Biscuits came shooting out of the gate on Thursday night, thanks to a dusted off “Chemical Warfare Brigade,” the first one in more than six years. Another opening set highlight was a “House Dog Party Favor” that went delightfully dark and deep at times, surpassing the 20-minute mark. The set came to an end in vintage Disco Biscuits fashion with a “Story Of The World” > “Munchkin Invasion” > “Story Of The World” sequence, although “Munchkin” went unfinished and would surprisingly remain that way the entire run.
The band kept the old school hits coming with a “Hot Air Balloon” second set opener that also went unfinished, and instead morphed right into a thunderous “Shem-Rah Boo.” Emerging from “Shem,” drummer Allen Aucoin put on a drumming masterclass with the rare inverted approach to “Portal To An Empty Head.” It would be the first of many memorable song inversions this run, where a song’s ending is played immediately before its beginning.
Friday night brought with it a calendar page turn into April and all the potential for mayhem that comes along with April Fool’s Day. To that degree, a “Nughuffer” opener came as somewhat of a surprise, even admitted so by bassist Marc Brownstein in his traditional mid-song banter. But after a quick trip to Zex Sea, the Biscuits were off and running with another monster trance-fueled jam to start the show. An unfinished “Spaga” then later bled right into one of the band’s newer efforts, “Running Into The Night.”
The second set began with a mesmerizing drawn out jam that served as the runway for the intro to “Run Like Hell,” one of the band’s singature cover selections. This gave way to a parade of song inversions, starting with a very common one in “Confrontation.” A couple of inverted animals then followed suit in standout takes of “Crickets” and “Aquatic Ape” before “Basis For A Day” closed out the set in grand fashion. As an encore, the Disco Biscuits trotted out “Friend Like Steve” one more, a recently-penned birthday song for a friend of the band. Doubling down on the “FLS” songs, the band then unleashed a surprising first time ever cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Feel Like A Stranger.”

After two nights of barn-burners, Saturday took the Biscuits legacy at the Cap to a new level. With a fan written setlist once again guiding the band, tonight’s show was a true hallmark of the weekend and raised an already elevated bar even higher.
The band came out swinging in Set 1 with “Denmark Massive,” a song not played since 2008, and originally written by The Join (Marc Brownstein, Aron Magner, and The New Deal’s Jamie Shields and Darren Shearer), as noted by Zachary Franck. The Biscuits first studio single in a decade, “Lake Shore Drive” segued cleanly from “Denmark Massive” and into an inverted “Morph Dusseldorf.” The moment the audience heard the shift into the “Morph” ending, the room lit up with energy and peaked as the band and crowd sang in unison “Morph, morph from Dusseldorf, changing all the time, and if you stay the same one day, that night will be sublime.” The moment built on that peak by segueing into the beginning of “Morph,” a none-too often occurance.
A combination of “And the Ladies Were the Rest of the Night” with a potent “Cyclone” sandwiched inside would follow, a dream setlist and nothing short of creative and challenging for the Disco Biscuits.

“Vassillios” kicked off the second set, with neither the band nor crowd losing steam during setbreak. The eventual shift into the foreboding and evil vibe of “Orch Theme” took no prisoners and laid the groundwork for a Club Bisco vibe that reigned through the rest of the night. With the doors swung open, an inverted “Sweating Bullets,” the first ever such version, burst through for 25 minutes of peaks upon peaks that built with each successive ascent. Barber and Brownstein were found hopping around and getting down on stage, pairing well with the audience, creating a pure rock and roll moment, in the Original Rock Palace, naturally.
An equally dominant “Tempest” arrived out of “Sweating Bullets” and back into the second half of “Vassillios,” bringing the set nearly full circle. Shifting into the ending of “I Remember When,” the audience was elated in unison, singing along, a reflection on the 3 years (with two cancellations) that it has taken the Disco Biscuits to return to the Capitol Theatre stage.
Prior to the encore, Peter Shapiro, owner of the Cap, came out to reflect on hearing the Disco Biscuits for the first time in 1997 at The Wetlands, and led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig. Marc Brownstein then gave recognition to faithful longtime Tour Manager, Ryan Noel, who was spending his last run with the band this weekend, bidding him a farewell with the crowd pouring out love.
Perhaps reflecting on those sentiments, the band returned to the beginning of “I Remember When” to start the encore before shifting into Walter Murphy’s “A Fifth of Beethoven,” a final dose of disco for the night, one etched into Disco Biscuits and Capitol Theatre lore.

Saturday Night Live returned on April 2 to address the Oscars slap and more, with host Jerrod Carmichael and musical guest, Gunna.
Weekend Update focused on ‘the slap’, noting it as a defining moment of television for the current generation, a mark in pop-culture time.
Pete Davidson returned for the first time in three episodes with the music video “Short Ass Movie,” where he cited the need for movies with a runtime under 1 hour, 40 minutes. Joined by fellow cast member Chris Redd, Dirt Nasty (Simon Rex) and musical guest Gunna, the group explored the myraid of movies considered a quick watch.
Gunna rapped “I’m not pushin P unless it’s under two hours/ Like Lion King or Bad Moms or all three Austin Powers.” Davidson took on A Beautiful Mind-style observation on the run times of Jurassic Park (2 hours, 7 minutes) and Sex and the City 2 (2 hours, 26 minutes), and even referencing a recent Instagram post from Davidson where friend Scott Diseck fell asleep during boys night.
Gunna’s first song, “Banking on Me,” was released as a single on Valentine’s Day, originally planned to be on the deluxe edition of his third studio album, DS4Ever, his second consecutive number one album, released in January and featuring guest appearances from 21 Savage, Drake, Kodak Black and more.

Jade Relics – “Mandarine” & “Leave us Alone”
Jade Relics is a collective of Vermont Musicians featuring, Elder Orange, Rico James, IamE. Their debut release is equally infectious as it is danceable all the while carrying a message. The music floats along a hip hop feel with emo heartfelt singing, excellent production and instrumentation creating a head bobbing yet smart piece of music.
Jade Relics previously released “Start Over,” a massive sounding intoxicating grooed out jam about pushing the rest button or at least being forced to do so.
Atelo Songs – “Wish I Could Drop”
Sam Gleason aka Atelo Songs is a singer/songwriter and producer who creates music spanning a wide variety of genres, including rock, pop, folk, psychedelic, and new wave. Getting his start over a decade ago performing at various venues throughout the state of New York, he’s become known for both his powerful and unique voice as well as his strange, story-telling style of songwriting.
Having played shows with artists such as Jimmy Webb and Charles NeVille, he continues to constantly play out throughout New York and has not stopped writing, recording, and putting out as much music as possible. Atelo currently resides in the city of Albany, and has spent the gigless days of the pandemic writing, recording, and releasing singles. See less
This summer, Dead and Company will embark on a 20 show cross-country tour, including shows at SPAC and Bethel Woods, plus a two-night tour-closing run at Citi Field.
Summer 2022 marks the seventh tour for Dead and Company – Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, John Mayer, and Bob Weir, with Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti – since forming in 2015.
During the Dead and Company 2022 Summer Tour, the band will make stops at Bay Area at Shoreline Amphitheater, two nights at University of Colorado Boulder’s Folsom Field, two nights at Wrigley Field in Chicago, a night at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, and a night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, before wrapping up with epic shows at Citi Field in New York.
Dead and Company are no strangers to New York, having kicked off their first ever tour in Albany at the Times Union Center in October 2015, along with annual stops in Saratoga Springs, New York City, and all points in between.
