  • Mike Doughty Kicks off Northeast Tour

    After placing the focus on his own work over the last 18 years, former Soul Coughing frontman and solo wordsmith, Mike Doughty is making a quick trip around the Northeast to turn back the clocks and perform the alternative rock group’s ‘Irresistible Bliss’ for a total of seven dates.

    You’d figure by the time he notched The Heart Watches While the Brain Burns, his ninth solo album since 2000, Doughty would settle into his ways and follow a musical pattern. Simply, that’s just not the way he operates. Always diving into and exploring new sounds, the ever-growing artist and former front man is constantly taking chances on new styles and setting personal deadlines of crafting and recording original music as often as possible.

    From country crooning to hard hitting beats and even a 2015 rock opera by the name Revelation, it’s clear Doughty doesn’t rely on one-track mind of creativity. Instead, he chooses from a bank of ideas in his head and decides how he wants it to translate to the public. Appealing to his roots, An Evening with Mike Doughty performing Soul Coughing’s Irresistible Bliss with Andrew “Scrap” Livingston launched on March 22 in Portland, ME before heading to a sold out gig in Boston. Having just made his way through NJ and MD, Doughty finds himself in NY from March 28 to 30, playing for crowds each night in Pawling’s Daryl’s House, Homer Center for the Arts and Albany’s the Linda, respectively.

  • The Curtain Comes Down on Paul Simon’s Touring Career

    Legendary musician Paul Simon is calling it quits as it pertains to full scale touring in his career and has released dates for his Homeward Bound – The Farewell tour. Appropriately named after a classic Simon & Garfunkel song, this final tour will see Simon play a swath of venues throughout North America and Europe beginning in May and ending in late September. The Jersey-born and Queens-raised icon will fittingly return home for a set of shows at Madison Square Garden at the end of the tour.

    “I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end,” said Simon in his official statement. “Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating, and something of a relief.”  Simon did also include that he has no intentions of quitting music altogether and will still play the occasional show here and there.

    Friends and fellow musical luminaries James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt will accompany Simon for two shows overseas and one would think (and hope) that Art Garfunkel, the other half of one of the greatest folk duos of all time, will make at least one appearance. The full tour schedule is listed below.  Tickets are being sold for this once in a lifetime event via Ticketmaster with a public on sale date and time of March 16, 9:00 am.

  • Arctic Monkeys Detail North American Dates

    A total of five years have come and gone without fresh Arctic Monkeys material, leaving fans with AM to hold them over until the English rockers’ latest musical venture. Promising fans fresh content in the near future, it seems the seasoned performers will stay true to their convictions with newly announced North American tour dates for Arctic Monkeys as the warmer weather rolls in.

    One gig at LA’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery kicks things off in May, before hopping to the other side of the states for three-show runs in Raleigh, Nashville and Atlanta. The foursome will take on the East Coast on July 24 at Queens, NY Forest Hills Stadium before moving onto Boston and DC as well as Midwestern territories in Pittsburgh, Detroit and Toronto.

    Pre sale tickets went on sale March 13 at 10 a.m., while tickets go on sale to the general public on March 16. In tandem with the freshly announced European gigs, this will be the first tour since 2014.

  • Live Nation Announces 2018 ‘Ticket to Rock’ Package

    With all the concert announcements coming to light over the past few weeks, the summer concert season is shaping up to what look likes a great year for live music at your favorite outdoor venue.

    Just one thing seemed to be missing from all the concert announcements. Where are all the hard rock and metal tours?

    Live Nation answered that question in a big way with their “Ticket to Rock.” The package will include four mega hard rock and metal shows that will have some fans drooling, and some fuming due to the limited 16-29 dates each tour will run, leaving many without a chance of seeing any of these shows at all, including many in New York.

    Tours that have been announced as part of the package will include a Shinedown and Godsmack co-headlining tour, Avenged Sevenfold‘s “End of the World” tour with The Prophets of Rage, Three Days Grace and Ho99o9, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson’s co-headlining “Twins of Evil – The Second Coming 2018” tour, and a co-headlining tour between Five Finger Death Punch and Breaking Benjamin with special guest Nothing More and Bad Wolves.

    Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, will be the only venue in NY state to offer the Live Nation “Ticket to Rock” option. Avenged Sevenfold will appear on July 25, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson on August 7, Shinedown and Godsmack on Sept. 2, and Five Finger Death Punch and Breaking Benjamin on Sept. 6. Rob Zombie will also perform at the Darien Lake Amphitheater on Aug. 12.

    Depending on your geographical location in NY, rock fans can take a small road trip to shows in Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

  • Sevendust Returns with New Album and Tour

    Future Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Sevendust returns, as the band posted on social media that they will hit the road this spring in support of the band’s upcoming twelfth studio album, All I See is War. The album will be released on May 11 through Rise Records.

    sevendust returnsThe band’s “All I See is War” tour, will mix with several festival appearances Sevendust will make, including Welcome to Rockville, Fort Rock, Carolina Rebellion, Lunatic Luau, Rock on the River, Spring Fling and Rocklahoma.

    Kicking things off in Tempe, AZ at UFest on April 20, the tour will see support from Rise label mates Memphis May Fire, and Fire From the Gods. Manhattan-born singer/songwriter Madame Mayhem, will open shows during the run.

    New York will have one stop during the band’s 26-city run, in what seems to have become a home away from home for the band, at Clifton Park’s Upstate Concert Hall on May 9. Tickets go on sale March 2, and cost $20 in advance, and $23 at the door. VIP Packages are also available.

    Sevendust formed in Atlanta in 1994. They released twelve studio albums, including their first acoustic effort Time Travelers & Bonfires in 2014. Their music has been featured in several movie soundtracks, television, and video games through several different avenues, including WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), ATV Offroad Fury, 2001 film Down to Earth, Mortal Kombat soundtrack, and Celebrity Deathmatch.

  • Squirrel Nut Zippers to Release Long-Anticipated New Album and Expand Upon US Tour

    The Squirrel Nut Zippers are back in business with their highly anticipated new album, Beasts of Burgundy is the first release in eighteen years.The twelve tracks are “inspired by the city of New Orleans, the poet Ron Cuccia, and a disregard for convention.” Pre-orders are being taken for the album, which will be available March 23 via Southern Broadcasting. They are already on tour for the album, and additional dates have been scheduled. They’ll be playing in the Northeast from late March to early April, with shows at the Center for the Arts of Homer on March 25 and City Winery in New York City on March 28. Tickets are on sale now.

  • John Fogerty and ZZ Top Unite For ‘Blues and Bayous Tour’

    John Fogerty and ZZ Top join forces for a ‘Blues and Bayous Tour’ this year. These Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legends set off on their epic musical journey in New Jersey in May, with stops in New York at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh on June 20 and Marvin Sands Theater in Canandaigua on June 23.   • Imagine Dragons ‘Evolve’ World Tour Features Grace Vanderwaal

    Las Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons dropped the “Thunder” with their summer touring plans for 2018. The band will continue to support their third studio album Evolve, with a 38-city tour across the United States.

    imagine dragons evolveLook for more dates to be possibly added, as there is a huge gap in between the last two announced dates. Season eleven winner of America’s Got Talent, and Suffern, NY native Grace Vanderwaal, was announced as special guest to help support and open shows during the tour.

    The band looks to make New York a “Believer,” with three stops spread across the state. Those stops will include June 11, at the Lakeview Amphitheater in Syracuse, June 19, at Madison Square Garden in NYC, and  June 29, at SPAC, in Saratoga Springs. Tickets go on sale to the general public March 3.

    Imagine Dragons have sold over 12 million albums, and over 35 million singles worldwide, not including sales of Evolve. Their debut album Night Visions, earned them a twice platinum certification and a Billboard Music Award for “Top Rock Album,” in 2014. Their second studio album Smoke + Mirrors, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and is certified platinum.

  • Metallica Worldwired Tour to Stop in Buffalo and Albany

    New York fans have been buzzing the last couple of days after the mighty Metallica posted a video on social media that said “Monday, Worldwired Tour,” The brief video left fans hoping their city will be part of the the band’s 2018-2019 touring plans.

    Rumors started circulating once venues across North America started sharing Metallica’s post hours later. Two of 34 venues that shared Metallica’s video, were located in New York state. One of those venues on the list, had Capital Region metal fans saying “Could this be for real,” when the Times Union Center in Albany shared the band’s post.

    Now that Monday has arrived, everything has been made official. Metallica will make two stops in New York on their upcoming “Worldwired 2018/19” tour, including Oct. 27, at the Key Bank Center in Buffalo, and Oct. 29, at the Times Union Center in Albany. Fan club presale begins Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public March 2.

    Look for Metallica to announce around 50 shows to round out the 2018 tour schedule. Frontman James Hetfield admitted in a 2016 interview that, “My body has told me to tell these guys that 50 shows a year is kind of what we can do, so make the best of those. And I think we all kind of agree in that. But 50 shows a year, that’s pretty good. My body can handle that. Body, mind and spirit all need to kind of revitalize themselves at home, and days off for voices — things like that — so 50 shows a year, it goes pretty quick, I’m sure.”

    Since their debut in 1981, Metallica has released 10 studio albums, a cover album, four live albums and five EP’s. Their last six studio albums, all debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. They have sold over 125 million records worldwide, making them one of the most commercially successful bands of all time. Since 1991, the band became the third best-selling artist with over 58 million albums in the U.S. alone. Metallica has released over 37 singles, and won nine Grammy Awards.

  • Trampled by Turtles Return from Hiatus with ‘Life is Good on the Open Road’

    Trampled By Turtles, coming off an indefinite hiatus, have announced their first new album in four years, Life is Good on the Open Road, to be released on May 4 with two shows at The Palace Theater in St. Paul, MN. The tour swings east and arrives at Manhattan’s Playstation Theater on May 11.

    Trampled By Turtles’ signature blend of rock, folk, punk, country and their brand of progressive bluegrass can be heard on the album’s opening track “Kelly’s Bar”

    Life is Good on the Open Road is the welcome return that the group’s legions of passionate fans have been waiting for. Led by the songwriting of lead singer Dave Simonett, the new songs touch on key elements from the entire spectrum of Trampled By Turtles body of work, while creating something that sounds fresh and invigorated. Simonett, and bandmates Erik Berry, Ryan Young, Dave Carroll, Tim Saxhaug and Eamonn McLain reunited at a cabin in the Minnesota woods to see if the special chemistry they once shared still existed. It did not take long for the magic to reveal itself with a renewed sense of purpose and the result shines brightly on Life is Good on the Open Road.
