  • The Yard Amphitheater at Ray Brothers BBQ Announces 2018 Summer Lineup

    Ray Brothers BBQ, located on State Route 20 in Bouckville, announced its summer 2018 concert schedule for The Yard Amphitheater, located on the grounds of the popular BBQ joint. The season kicks off on Memorial Day with the 3rd Annual Backyard BBQ & SPCA Benefit featuring the Lightkeepers and Mike Powell & the Black River. Tickets for the Memorial Day show are $10 with proceeds benefiting the SPCA.

    Other acts making their way to New York’s antique capital include Zach Deputy, Big Mean Sound Machine, Chris Eves & the New Normal, Hayley Jane & the Primates, Wild Adriatic, Sophistafunk, the Talking Heads tribute band, Start Making Sense and the 2017 NYS Music March Madness winner, Root Shock.

    The penultimate event on the calendar is the 4th Annual Hop Harvest Festival featuring Keller Williams. This takes place Labor Day weekend. Williams also performed at the Yard last year.

  • Adirondack Independence Music Fest 2018 Initial Lineup Announced

    The Adirondack Independence Music Fest 2018 is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing festivals in the Northeast. This year’s festival is taking place Sept. 1 and 2 at the Charles R. Wood Festival Commons in Lake George and features two sets from both Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Lucid along with a host of other national and regional acts.

    Additional artists scheduled to perform at the 2018 festival include Keller Williams, Pink
    Talking Fish, Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime, Lespecial, Formula 5, Jen Durkin & the Business,
    Steal Your Peach Band, Gratefully Yours, Swift Technique, Goose, Let’s Be Leonard, Root
    Shock, the Melting Nomads and LDF (Ladies Drink Free), with more bands to be announced
    soon. The festival also plans to announce a big headliner in late July.

    Music runs from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00pm each day on 2 alternating main stages at the festival
    grounds, followed by late night performances each night at local venue, King Neptune’s until
    3:00 a.m.. Goose, LDF (Ladies Drink Free) and Gratefully Yours have currently been announced
    for late night performances at King Neptune’s. Additionally, there will be a free kick-off party
    on Friday, August 31, with performances scheduled for both Shepard Park in downtown Lake
    George and King Neptune’s. So far, The Funky Dawgz Brass Band have tapped for the kick-off
    party, with additional bands still expected to be announced.

    Early bird tickets for Adirondack Music Fest 2018 are on sale now and are priced at $70 for the weekend or $170 for weekend VIP tickets. More information can be found at the festival’s website.

  • Estate of George Harrison Presents HariSongs Label

    George Harrison left a vast legacy, part of it in the form of his collection of rare recordings. The Estate of George Harrison has partnered with Craft Recordings to create the HariSongs label.

    Selections of world music will be released from Harrison’s archives. Along with the announcement comes the digital-only release of two out-of-print albums: Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan In Concert 1972 and the last collaboration by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, Chants of India. For the first time, this music will be available to enjoy and share on streaming platforms.

    About In Concert 1972:

    “In Concert 1972 was originally released via Apple Records in 1973, with a statement that read: “Within the small community of Brilliantly Gifted Musicians there exists an even smaller world of Masters. Two of these masters recently joined together in concert …” The album features two of Indian Classical music’s greatest artists at the height of their powers, the sitar maestro Ravi Shankar and master of the sarod, Ali Akbar Khan. The album captures the live recordings from a performance that took place at New York City’s Philharmonic Hall on October 8, 1972 and was produced by George Harrison (with Zakir Hussain and Phil McDonald). Featuring tabla accompaniment by the great Alla Rakha, this mesmerizing concert comprises three ragas played in the jugalbandistyle (or a duet played by two solo musicians) and became a poignant tribute to the guru of both soloists (and the father of Ali Akbar), the great Allauddin Khan, who had died but a month previously. Audio for this reissue was sourced from the original master 1/4″ analogue tapes which were digitized at FPSHOT (Friar Park Studio Henley On Thames) and remastered by Paul Hicks, Gavin Lurssen & Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering (Hi-Res 96/24 and 192/24 audio also available).”

    “Chants of India by Ravi Shankar and produced by George Harrison was originally released in 1997 on Angel Records. Recorded in Madras, India, and Henley-on-Thames, UK, this collaboration was referred to by Shankar as “one of the most difficult challenges in my life, as a composer and arranger”, and draws upon the sacred Sanskrit texts of the Vedas, Upanishads and other scriptures. He added, “the repetitive use of mantras invoke a special power within oneself and I have tried to imbibe this age-old tradition in this recording… into which I have poured my heart and soul.” Audio for this reissue was sourced from the original Digital master tapes, also remastered by Paul Hicks, Gavin Lurssen & Reuben Cohen at Lurssen.”

  • Nickodemus Releases New Single “Inmortales” Ft. Fémina

    Veteran New York DJ and producer Nickodemus has released the first single, “Inmortales” from his highly-anticipated album A Long Engagement. A project with international focus, the latest single offers another glimpse in the form of “Inmortales (Body Move)” ft. Patagonian trio Fémina, an internationally renowned female group with a rap-folk aesthetic.

    Nickodemus fuses a Middle-Eastern tinged rhythm with the Latin American rhymes of Fémina and seamlessly conjoins the two cultures. “The songs lyrics are about relating to one another and reflecting each other,” explains Nickodemus. “A beautiful message that were all human and need to break down barriers especially in this political climate where everyone seems to be moving towards putting up fences and walls.” Previously, two tastes of the project have been shared, with Arabic influenced “Do You Do You?” Feat. Carol C & The Spy From Cairo, and Afro-Caribbean stunner featuring legendary Reggae vocalist Jahdan Blakkamoore on “Livin Your Dreams.”

    Fans can hear a collaboratively album in A Long Engagement featuring Grammy nominated act Innov Gnawa, The Pimps of Joytime, Carol C (Si*se), Jahdan Blakkamore, Femina, Alsarah, Grey Reverend (Bonobo), LA Yegros, and The Real Live Show on the 13-track release, due out May 4th via Nickodemus’ label Wonderwheel.

  • An all-star Everyone Orchestra lineup hits Putnam Place on May 3

    Everyone Orchestra is all-star pure improvisation. With conductor Matt Butler leading a rotating cast of big name musicians, these shows thrive on in-the-moment improvisations, twists and turns that can only be found among talented collaborators. On May 3, Butler brings together an all-star cast for the next Upstate New York installment of Everyone Orchestra.

    Featuring John Kadlecik (Furthur), Michael Travis (The String Cheese Incident), Al Schnier (Moe.), Andrew Altman (Railroad Earth), Sam Brouse (Papadosio), Shannon Lynch (Conehead Buddha) and Shaun Bazylewicz (Conehead Buddha), you’ll be on your toes all night dancing and seeing what comes next out of this musical mashup of individual artists who know a thing or two about improv.

  • Ace Frehley releases new song ‘Bronx Boy’

    On April 27, Ace Frehley celebrated his birthday and released a new song, proclaiming that after all these years, he’s still a “Bronx Boy.” The song is a the first single from his upcoming eighth studio album. No date or title yet on the new release, but the first release has a lot of old-school rock and roll grit that shows the co-founding Kiss is still a contender. Rumor has it the new album will be out this summer.

    Paul Daniel Frehley was born and raised in The Bronx (Boy), New York City, the youngest of three children of Esther Anna (Hecht) and Carl Daniel Frehley.

    Frehely grew up on the corner of Marion Avenue and 201st Street, off Bedford Park Boulevard (also known as 200th Street) and Webster Avenue in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx.

    Frehely invented the persona of The Spaceman (a.k.a. Space Ace) and played with the group from its inception in 1973 until his departure in 1982. After leaving Kiss, Frehley embarked on a solo career, which was put on hold when he rejoined Kiss in 1996 for a highly successful reunion tour.

    Frehley’s second tenure with Kiss lasted until 2002, when he left at the conclusion of what was originally purported to be the band’s Farewell Tour. His most recent solo album, Origins Vol. 2, was released on September 18, 2020. Guitar World magazine ranked him as the 14th Greatest Metal Guitarist of All Time. Outside Kiss, Frehley had commercial success, with his first solo album going platinum. His first album with his “Frehley’s Comet” band was also a big seller. Frehley is noted for his aggressive, atmospheric and melodic guitar playing and is also known for the use of many “special effects” guitars, including a Gibson Les Paul guitar that emits smoke from the neck humbucker pickup and produces spinning pyrotechnics, and a custom Les Paul that emits light based on song tempo.

  • Upstate Punk Band Surmiser Announces Upcoming EP ‘Hold The Static’

    Surmiser’s latest EP, Hold The Static, will be available on June 8. The grungy garage punk band will celebrate the release with a show on June 9 at The People’s Cauldron in Rosendale. The band issued a music video for “Trains,” from the upcoming release, which debuted at New Noise Magazine.

    ‘Trains’ is about dead-end life in a small city and an analogy to the way that people in this place, and indeed these types of places, allow themselves to be derailed by anger, addiction and the patterns created of the previous generations mistakes.

    The video was shot by shot by Mike Parish of 424recording.com. Jay Andersen at Bohemesphere in Saugerties recorded and mixed Hold The Static. It was mastered by Oliver Ackermann at Death By Audio, Brooklyn, NY.

  • Deep Purple and Judas Priest Announce Summer North American Tour

    With one hundred years of rock and roll experience combined, Deep Purple, and Judas Priest have announced that they will team up for a co-headlining, 25-city tour across North America.

    Three of those twenty five cities on the tour will include stops in New York starting on Aug. 9, at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, Aug. 2, at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, and Aug. 5, at the Darien Lake Amphitheater in Darien Center.

    Since its formation in 1968, Deep Purple has released 20 studio albums throughout its 50 year career including 2017’s Infinite. The band has sold over 100 million albums world-wide and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on 2016.

    Formed in 1969, Judas Priest has recorded eighteen studio albums, selling over 50 million world-wide. The band won a Grammy award in 2010 for Best Metal Performance for the song “Dissident Aggressor.”  The band’s latest studio effort, Firepower, released in March is its most successful album, selling 49,000 copies the first week and debuting at number five on the Billboard 200 chart.

  • ‘Genny Fest’ to Feature Music By Jackknife Stiletto and Allison Leah

    To celebrate five and a half decades on the air, SUNY Geneseo’s WGSU will host a music festival and food truck rodeo on Friday, April 27 from 4-7 pm. “Genny Fest” takes place on the college campus and is free and open to students and the general public.

    Festival-goers can catch music from up-and-coming New York City musicians, all-girl rock band Jackknife Stiletto and singer-songwriter Allison Leah. Seven food trucks will be on site, so there’s sure to be something for everyone. Proceeds from t-shirt sales and donations of cash or nonperishable food will benefit Foodlink.

    Following the festival, The Geneseo A Cappella concert takes place at the College Union Ballroom (tickets are $5, and will be available at the door).

  • Coalescence IV: An Evening of Belly Dance Returns to Glens Falls

    A growing community of belly dancers from the Northeast and beyond will come together on May 12 at the Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls, NY for Coalescence IV, an evening of entertainment for the entire family. The fourth annual belly dance fundraiser donates 100% of proceeds to support Randy’s Patient Assistance Fund at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, Glens Falls Hospital. Coalescence IV

    Randy’s Patient Assistance Fund supports patients in need by covering co-pays, gas cards for transportation to treatment, lodging assistance for those undergoing daily treatments, prepaid minutes for cell phones and prescription co-payments. The fund was set up in memory of Randall Favreau who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2011. He could have used all these services, but there were no resources available for him at that time. Upon his passing, his wife used some of his insurance monies to help start this much needed fund. Since then, through the generosity of the community, Glens Falls Hospital has been able to keep this fund open and help many patients.

    The lobby will open at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 for concessions and a basket raffle, with all prizes awarded immediately following intermission. Tickets are on sale now at the Wood Theater Box Office. More event info can be found here.
