  • Good Nature Farms Brewery Announces Summer Concert Series

    Good Nature Farms Brewery in Hamilton has announced its first Summer Concert Series. In collaboration with Creative Concerts the “homegrown family-owned,” brewery will be home to seven upcoming concerts, starting in May through August.

    “We are thrilled to announce this partnership with Creative Concerts,” GNB Co-Founder Carrie Blackmore said. “We look forward to bringing nationally renowned acts and regional favorites to Good Nature Farm Brewery this summer. It doesn’t get any better than bringing folks together in our Beer Garden for great music and great beer!”

    The concerts will take place outside the brewery in their Beer Garden, where they will be serving food from their “farm-to-table kitchen.” The brewery prides itself on sustainability and and building a beer culture in, N.Y.

    The Good Nature Farms Brewery series will begin starting May, 13 with Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. The brewery plans to announce more acts coming this summer. Tickets for shows went on sale Friday morning and can be purchased at CCtix.com

  • Tom Hamilton and Holly Bowling to Interpret Grateful Dead Music Acoustically

    Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past, American Babies, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Ghost Light) and Holly Bowling (Ghost Light) are teaming up for a one night only acoustic exploration of the music of the Grateful Dead.

    Tickets for the Friday, June 1 show at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre are available for presale today at noon through Ticketfly. The general on sale date is Friday, April 6 at noon.

    The duo is currently in the midst of a tour with Ghost Light, an all-star collective consisting of Bowling, Hamilton, Steve Lyons, Raina Mullen and Scotty Zwang.

    At the Cap show, Hamilton and Bowling will draw from their respective Dead experiences. Hamilton performs with popular Dead cover band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and Bowling recently released an album of piano interpretations of the Grateful Dead entitled Better Left Unsung.

    Ghost Light’s tour visits the Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn on April 11. Tickets for that show are still available.

  • Willie Nelson Announces Dates and a Star-Studded Lineup for Second Leg of Outlaw Music Festival

    Willie Nelson is heading back out on tour. And he’s taking some famous friends with him. Van Morrison and Neil Young are just a few of the stars that have been announced to join the second leg of the 2018 Outlaw Music Festival, joining a host of other well known and established musical acts.  The tour, which features a rotating cast of bands each night, stops in Saratoga Springs on Sunday, September 23 and will feature the legendary Neil Young as the prominent guest that night.  He’ll play a special show with Promise of the Real, who will also be there backing up Lukas Nelson, Willie’s son. The other 7 dates of the increasingly popular roving tour of rock and alt-country music will see lineups with rising stars like Sturgill Simpson, Greensky Bluegrass and Tedeschi Trucks Band on them to supplement Hall of Famers like Morrison and Nelson.

    What started out as a one-time concert in Scranton, PA two years ago has turned into a successful tour for Nelson and Blackbird Presents, a company specializing in the production of large scale concert events. Last year’s tour saw over 100,000 in ticket sales for concerts spread out all over the country.  2018 looks to follow up on that momentum with an opening portion of shows in early summer and the recently announced second leg with dates covering the month of September.  Tickets go on sale Friday, April 6 at 12 pm.   • Cayuga Sound Returns for a Second Year

    Cayuga Sound Music Festival will close out back to back summer seasons in Ithaca’s historic Stewart Park and other local venues on Sept. 21-22, expanding the festival to two days during the city’s week long outdoor concert festival series.

    Last year’s event helped raise nearly $50,000 to benefit non-profit organizations that specialize in helping children throughout the community. This year’s festival will be no different, with a portion of the proceeds going back into the community.

    Ithaca natives, platinum recording artists and curators of the festival, X Ambassadors, will return as one of the festival’s headliners along with Young The Giant. Other artists confirmed to appear include Talib Kweli, Matt & Kim, Buddy, Sofi Tukker, Morgxn, with other artists still TBA. Local and regional artists will also appear during the two day event including KNEW, No Comply, and Lady D & the Shadow Spirits to name a few.

    X Ambassadors frontman Sam Harris, shared his excitement for not only being back home, but returning to the festival, “We’re beyond thrilled to be bringing Cayuga Sound back to Ithaca this year. Last year was such a milestone for us and the prospect of making this an annual tradition is so exciting. Expect another eclectic lineup with both global acts and some our favorite Ithaca music too.”

    This Fiction founder, and band manager, Seth Kallen, showed his enthusiasm, “Building a festival from the ground up was huge challenge, but the weekend was incredibly gratifying for all of us involved. To be able to create something that will continue for years to come, while giving back to such a great community was so amazing. We’re so excited to expand to two days this year and bring even more amazing music to the city of Ithaca.”

    DSP founder Dan Smalls, commented on how beneficial the festival was to the community in its inaugural run, “DSP set out to bring a true world class music festival to our home town and we did just that. The comments from folks who attended were just great and we feel we created a venue that made for an amazing experience all around. We donated nearly $50,000 last year and over 80% of that stayed right here with 10 not-for-profits that help kids in our community. There is nothing more gratifying than giving back and we hope to do even more this year – both financially but also through our talk series, events and growing idea list. Just saying it aloud gets me excited for what we have in the works!”

    Early bird two-day tickets for Cayuga Sound Festival will go on sale Wednesday April 4 at 10 a.m. with general admission two-day tickets going on sale Friday, April 6 at 10 a.m.

  • Brazilian Ska-Punk Band Abraskadabra Plot U.S. Tour in April

    Brazilian ska-punk band Abraskadabra recently released their newest album Welcome and are coming (back) to America to celebrate. Over 15 dates, the group will tour from Boston to Denver with a stop at Brooklyn’s El Cortez on April 1, bringing one of the most interesting punk bands in Brazil to the States.

    Guitarist/vocalist Buga looked back on the band’s last time touring America and noted, “We had a great time there four years ago and met one of the greatest ska icons, Brent Friedmann. He’s setting us up with awesome gigs and bands from all over the country and has become a very good friend of ours. We’re very excited to be coming back for the second time.”

    Abraskadabra and their latest album, Welcome, delivers the band’s own vision of the ska-punk essence, and according to guitarist/vocalist Du, “It’s an album that sums up what this band is pretty well. Fast punk rock songs with horns, melodic vocals and backing vocals. We wanted to give no chill to the listener because we believe this is what punk rock/hardcore/ska music is all about.”

  • Toronto’s Common Deer premiere “Mistakes” Video, Announce Northeast shows

    Fresh off their first ever SXSW performances, Toronto indie group Common Deer have debuted the video for “Mistakes,” and have announced additional April dates in the Northeast of the U.S., including April 17 at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC.

    Common Deer formed while in college, centered around the harmonies of Graham McLaughlin (guitar, violin) and Sheila Hart-Owens (keyboards), with Sheila’s brother Adam Hart-Owens (guitar, cello, synths) and brothers Liam Farrell (drums) Connor Farrell (bass).  The group developed their sound and eventually worked with producer Laurence Currie (Wintersleep, Hey Rosetta!) to release EP I, released in January, followed by II released in September and produced by Gus Van Go (Arkells, The Stills).

    Guitarist/violinist Graham McLaughlin shared his thoughts on “Mistakes,” stating “Performing “Mistakes” live is always cathartic. It’s a very personal track about mental illness, specifically depression and anxiety in our current climate, and we hope that others can find the same release listening as we do playing it.”

  • NYC Hot Spot to Host Art for Progress Benefit Concert

    The award-winning and popular New York City music venue (Le) Poisson Rouge will serve as the setting for a concert on April 10 that will feature both an All-Star band of esteemed musicians as wells as some local acts on the rise.  Art for Progress, a non-profit arts organization committed to providing arts education programs throughout city schools and impoverished areas, will present “Once in a Lifetime,” a benefit show that features such names as Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin & Wood), Nels Cline (Wilco) and Marc Ribot. Together, with other special guests, they’ll comprise The Art for Progress Band in what’s sure to be a memorable collaboration.

    Serving as supporting acts will be Big Sweater, a young band that melds blues and rock influences that features Gabriel Calderin on drums, Greg Morello on bass and Barry Komitor on piano and keys while Elijah McCoy and Franklin Santiago share lead vocal and guitar duties. Also appearing is Bad Faces, a Brooklyn power trio that goes heavy on improvisational rock.  Led by Singer/Guitarist Barry Komitor, who manages and teaches at Arts For Progress and is fixture on the NYC folk and bluegrass scene, sings and plays guitar with the rhythm section comprised of two of the city’s rising musical talents with Brian Stollery on bass and drummer Ethan Kogan.     The promise of colorful blossoms, a great selection of artwork and crafts, delicious food and two full days of music will all unfold as the 70th annual Tulip Festival takes place in Albany, Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13, 2018 in Washington Park during Mother’s Day weekend.

  • KMase Productions Announces Storytellers Mini-Tour

    Three of Central New York’s most talented singer/songwriters are teaming up for a mini-tour in April. This first ever mini-tour, presented by KMase Productions out of Syracuse, includes Mike Powell, Chris Merkley and Charley Orlando.

    Orlando is the talent buyer for Funk n’ Waffles. He helped create a regular Saturday/Sunday Storytellers session at the Downtown Syracuse Funk and has now integrated it into the Rochester Funk’s calendar as well. He is also a talented singer/songwriter, with 16 albums to his credit across his 26 year career.

    Powell has been working the CNY scene as a solo artist and duo act with John Hanus as well as a member of his new band, the Black River. The Black River’s debut album, Classic Universe, was released earlier this year to great acclaim.

    Merkley is a blues/Americana/rock artist and founder of Old Boy Records. He performs throughout the state as a solo act, a duo (Merkley & Morgan), in an acoustic rock band (The Crooners) and a swampy blues rock trio (Digger Jones). Merkley has also composed and produced music for TV and independent films. He also created several original compositions for the HBO series Generation Kill.

  • Aqueous Gets Tiny

    The past few years have seen Aqueous grow from a well known local act out of Buffalo to a band with some national recognition.  Constant touring and hard work will do that.  However, while the venues and acclaim may both be trending upwards, for the band’s submission in this year’s Tiny Desk Contest, Aqueous has stripped it down to the roots of being a fledgling band with a performance of “Underlyer” that was filmed in a grimy basement, helping give new meaning to the term grunge rock.

    The increasingly popular band competition, held by NPR and based on its Tiny Desk Concert series, serves as an open casting call of sorts and a chance for bands/artists to submit video entries of a stripped-down, NPR-ish performance that takes place behind a desk of some sort.  The contest winner gets a chance to really increase their exposure with follow up performances on NPR programs and a corresponding national tour that gets awarded. Phish’s Trey Anastasio helped serve as a celebrity judge in last year’s competition and Tarriona “Tank” Ball of Tank and the Bangas, last year’s winners, will serve in the same capacity this year.

    Aqueous has upcoming tour dates in Rochester on April 13 and 14 as well as Ithaca on April 21 and none are scheduled to be in a basement.  For further details and dates, check out the band’s official website here.
