The Hot Rize 40th Anniversary Bash album is a recording of Hot Rize’s live performance at the Boulder Theatre over the course of three sold out shows in January of this year. The album will include 19 tracks from these three sold out shows.
Hot Rize is known for being one of the most respected and influential bands in bluegrass music. The 40th Anniversary Bash shows Hot Rize’s broad appreciation for soulfulness and their conscientious balance between traditional and experimental bluegrass which is a hallmark of Hot Rize since their inception.
Hot Rize is made up of Nick Forster on bass, Pete Wernick on banjo, Tim O’Brien on mandolin and fiddle, and Bryan Sutton on guitar and they were joined during their Boulder three nights performance by longtime musical friends Jerry Douglas, Stuart Duncan, and Sam Bush.
Hot Rize’s 40th Anniversary Bash will be available on CD and vinyl (double LP) and will be released via Ten in Hand Records and distributed through The Orchard. The band will play the Ryman Auditorium on July 12th as their Nashville CD release show, as part of the Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman series.
The celebration will also be making a stop in Oak Hill, NY for the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival as one of the Friday headliners on July 20. Their complete tour dates are listed below.

Sherrill may be the smallest city in New York State, but its long-running summer concert series boasts some of the biggest music acts in the Central New York scene.
Among those slated to perform at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday from June 26 – Aug. 28 are country artist Eddie Arcuri, alt-folk band the Old Main, fan favorites and Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame inductees, Fritz’s Polka Band and Central New York’s premier party band, Showtime.
Eddie Arcuri performs in the pavilion Tuesday, July 3. Arcuri has recently been recording in Nashville and performed at Frog Fest in June. You can check out his single for “Beer Goggles” here.

Cazenovia’s Oldfield 5 performs on July 10. The band’s name is derived from the old phone exchange for Cazenovia. Band member, Gary Powers is a Sherrill resident.
Showtime takes the stage on July 17. This seasoned band has a proven track record of being able to perform just about anything. They’ve been on the CNY scene since the early ’90s and are one of the most high demand bands in the area.
Fritz’s Polka Band, based in nearby Verona, has the claim of being the only Polka band to ever play at a Woodstock Festival, having performed at the ill-fated Rome version in 1999. FPB was inducted into the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame in 2017 and have been nominated in several categories at the Cleveland awards ceremony over the years. The band has proven over the course of its career that Polka music can, in fact, rock, as exhibited in this fan-shot video of their version of “All Along the Watchtower” below.
The Old Main brings their unique brand of Americana to Sherrill on July 31. The band has proven very popular on the upstate brewery circuit and also has a solid fan base at the ski resorts of the Adirondacks and Vermont.
On Aug. 7, the jazz group E.S.P. This high energy group of seasoned jazz professionals is the recipient of three SAMMY Awards for Best Jazz Album (2009, 2011, 2017) and features Sherrill native, Evan Duchene on drums. Check out their video for “When Fortune Smiles” below.
The PartyNuts perform oldies from the ’50s and ’60s at the gazebo on Aug. 14. Their performance will be followed by a movie under the starts. The movie will be announced at a later time.
Central Winds is an all-star CNY wind ensemble comprised of more than 40 local music educators. They will be performing music spanning several genres at the park on Aug. 21. Aside from performing at such esteemed venues as the Eastman School of Music in Rochester and the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, the ensemble also conducts workshops throughout the year. Every Thursday this summer from July 5 – Aug. 30, The Crossings of Colonie brings its live concert series to the Capital Region from 6 – 8 p.m. rain or shine at the Crossings Park Gazebo.
A wide variety of different music can be found each week during the series from some of the area’s top local artists, including the Audiostars, Skeeter Creek, and the Georgie Wonder’s Big Band.
Fans are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic set ups to the show. All shows are free to the public. The Crossings is located at 580 Albany Shaker Road in Loudonville.

School’s out and summer is in full effect. With summer, comes live concert series throughout New York.
The city of Rome’s Griffo Green at City Hall will play host to the city’s annual summer concert series. Each Monday evening, beginning July 9, many of Rome’s most talented musicians will be showcased on the green outside of Rome’s City Hall. All shows are free and run from 6-8 p.m.
The series kicks off July 9 with a double shot of rock. Baddogg and 24/7 team up for opening night on the green. Both bands feature members with long pedigrees in the Central New York music scene. Baddogg began as a blues-based three piece and have evolved to include classic rock as well. Bassist Billy Carman performs in both bands. Carman has performed with a plethora of other CNY artists over the years as well as a stint in the band Boston. To say Carman is prolific would be an understatement.
Local blues legend, Midnite Mike Grimaldi and his band, the Bent Blinds take the stage on July 16. Grimaldi has played with some of the legends of the blues, including B.B. King, James Cotton and Joe Bonamassa. Grimaldi is a proud hometown musician with a pure passion for performing. Listen to some of the band’s work on Soundcloud below.
Husband and wife duo, Tammy and Andy Box, performing as the Boxed Set, bring a taste of ’70s rock to Griffo Green on July 23. The Boxed Set performs classics from Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac and other classic ’70s artists.
The Loco Brothers bring a fresh take on classic rock to the green July 30.
When it comes to covering deep tracks, Caut!on is your band. Chad Plantz and Mike “The Wizard” Bell form the core of this outfit. The lineup is rounded out by bassist Billy Carman and drummer John Dugan. Arkansas native, Bell plays a mean slide guitar and Plantz can belt out classics from Warren Zevon, the Grateful Dead, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews like no other.

Ready to toot their own foghorn for the fest’s second gathering, bringing their familiar Upstate, NY jams back to the steel pier of the Lake George Steamboat Company on July 13, 2018.
Driving a tough bargain, the improvisational powerhouse is offering advanced ticket sales for just $7 a pop to enjoy a fun-for-all-ages summer day, filled with live music, vendors, beer, food and crafts. Boasting a handpicked lineup of Soule Monde (Featuring Ray Paczkowski & Russ Lawton of Trey Anastasio Band), Strange Machines and Let’s Be Leonard, the entertainment can be appreciated from any of the three historic Lake George vessels that appropriately dock around the stage, acting as musical grandstands and welcoming wandering folk to explore free of charge.
“Rock the Dock was started as a way to celebrate the Lake George Steamboat Company‘s 200th anniversary by doing something that the company has never done in its history, hold a concert on the pier. The free concert was a way of giving back to all the loyal patrons as well as showcase the talents of local artists and food trucks. This year’s festival will also be focused on giving back, with 25% of all ticket proceeds benefiting the FUND for Lake George, to help with their efforts to keep the lake clean and pristine for years to come,” Luke Dow, event manager for Rock the Dock, shared about bringing the event to the docks on Lake George.
Saratoga Springs’ Let’s Be Leonard kick things off at 4 pm for an hour long set of rock n’ roll jazz explosion before passing the baton to New England-based Strange Machines at 5:15 pm for a melting pot of funky rock and livetronica fusion. At 6:45 pm, Soule Monde will take the stage, featuring Russ Lawton and fellow Trey Anastasio band member, Ray Paczkowski. An ideal union of swagger and raw talent, the duo is colorful, bold and highly responsive to one another’s artistry. Lake George’s own Formula 5 will once again take shape as this year’s headliner at 8:15 pm.
“It’s pretty cool growing a band from such a little town. We play all over the Eastern watershed and to have so many people gather in a place that molded who I am, it’s pretty special,” said drummer Greg Marek. “This place is pretty special. I’m just happy I can share the beauty of the lake along with our music to such wonderful people.”
If the music and cheap ticket price isn’t enough to reel you in, food trucks like The Plaid Pancake, Wood Shack Pizza and Sunshine Catering will keep your bellies full while a beer truck and bars on all three ships will keep your thirst quenched. SENSORiUM Music & Arts Festival returns for its second year in Philadelphia at the Ukrainian American Citizens’ Association (The Ukie Club on Franklin) on Saturday, August 25.
SENSORiUM brings together fans of music and arts for multi-dimensional, ultra-curated events, and sensational visual and interactive art installations and was founded by Joe Vela the drummer for Tweed in honor late friend, Suman Addya who used to travel the road with Tweed.
This year there will be some of the hottest national and local acts, the city’s finest craft and food vendors, and a sensational visual and interactive artist lineup including: Tweed, Daedelus, Wax Future, MINKA, Darla, Patrick Richards, Bad Leather, CyberSerum b2b Oni, CrypticFlow, and freedomtacos b2b iLL-Omega. A second phase of performers, including headliners will be announced on July 17.

The 2018 American Music Festival for the Lake returns to Lake George at Charles Wood Park June 30 and July 1 after being absent for a year. This year will feature a mainstream country headliner and an artist who shows a progressive viewpoint on America today.

Jamie Lee Thurston will be performing on Saturday and is known for being “Nashville-by-way-of-Vermont.” He has perfected the roles of being an entertainer, a vocalist, an instrumentalist, and a producer all at the same time which isn’t often seen in the music industry. Thurston has shared stages with country music’s biggest acts, such as the Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller, the Dixie Chicks, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, Billy Currington and Charlie Daniels. Joining him on Saturday will be award-winning rockabilly partymakers the Lustre Kings and rising 518 star Vinny Michaels and his solid backing band.
Amy Helm and her Handsome Strangers band will be performing on Sunday. She is known for being a lifelong musician and music-lover. The Band is known for its legendary drummer and singer Levon Helm and singer/songwriter Libby Titus which are both known for guiding Helm’s training and influences. Helm has currently taken over the role of tribal chief of the Woodstock area’s musicians’ network which was previously a role her father filled. In the process, she has established herself as a major national act in her own right. Joining her on Sunday will be Boston-based twangster’s Girls Guns & Glory (which have been compared to Chris Isaak) and a reunion show by 518 jam band pioneers Raisinhead.
Gates Open for both shows at Noon, with the music starting at 1:00 p.m. Headliners are due on stage at approximately 4:00 p.m.. Food and beverage service will be available, as well as a playground and skate park for the kids. All for free, as is the Million Dollar Beach right across the road. Attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for best seating in the grassy, open-air field.
Metal fans everywhere feel a dagger in their hearts, and a pit in their stomachs’ with the recent news of legendary stick man Vinnie Paul Abbott being found dead in Las Vegas at the age of 54. No details about his death have been released.
Paul co-founded one of metals’ most influential bands with his brother “Dimebag” Darrell in Pantera, before moving on with his brother in the band Damage Plan. Paul was currently playing behind the kit for HELLYEAH. Paul released seventeen studio albums during his career including 10 Pantera albums, 1 Damage Plan album, 1 Rebel Meets Rebel album, and 5 albums with HELLYEAH.

Just so brokenhearted and in shock. I’m struggling to write this but we want to thank you all for your kind words and support in this tragic time. Brooklyn Comes Alive recently announced its return on September 29 to Brooklyn’s beloved Williamsburg neighborhood for its fourth annual music marathon takeover at Brooklyn Bowl, Music Hall of Williamsburg, and the latest addition, Rough Trade. But now the lineup has also been released and contains many notable acts such as George Porter Jr. and Cory Henry.

Cory Henry (formerly of Snarky Puppy, Funk Apostles) will be joined for his debut performance at the festival by Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power), Scott Metzger (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, WOLF!), MonoNeon (Prince, Ghost Note) and Skerik who are all Brooklyn Comes Alive veterans which will make for one unforgettable quintet.
