  • Aqueous Announces Most Extensive Headlining Tour to Date

    Aqueous just announced their most extensive headlining tour to date. The tour starts this September, ends in December, and will hit 27 cities.

    Aqueous is a Buffalo-based groove-rock quartet and has three studio albums under their belt. They have a reputation for their improvisational skills and are considered one of the most promising improvisational rock acts in the country.

    During their tour Aqueous will be receiving support from the likes of Mungion, ELM, The Heavy Pets, EGI and Goose. They will be stopping in five New York cities: Buffalo, Sherman, Utica, Albany, and Brooklyn. The Buffalo, Sherman, and Utica stops are technically before the tour starts but are part of Aqueous’ already existing shows.

    The band is made up of guitarist Mike Gantzer, guitarist/keyboardist David Loss, bassist Evan McPhaden, and drummer Rob Houk. Tickets are on sale this coming Friday, July 20th at 10 AM ET.

  • Sister Sparrow Announces New Album and Supporting Tour

    Brooklyn’s Sister Sparrow has announced the release of the new album GOLD. The album arrives at all music retailers and streaming services via Thirty Tigers on Friday, Oct. 12th.

    The album’s first single, “Ghost,” is set to release Friday, Aug. 3. In addition to this, Sister Sparrow will also be celebrating the new LP with a major U.S. tour, joined as always by her extraordinary brass-fueled combo, the Dirty Birds.

    GOLD is produced and co-written in collaboration with Carter Matschullat (Chef’Special, Secret Weapons) at Brooklyn’s DØØM Studio. The LP takes the classic Dirty Birds sound and turns it into something altogether new, a soul-blasted contemporary pop approach supremely suited for Kincheloe’s immense voice.

    “The GOLD Tour” begins August 30 in Athens, then travels the country through early December. The tour will include a performance with Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats on Sept. 15 at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine. Additional dates will be unveiled soon.

  • New York’s City Winery Forced to Vacate Location by Disney

    New York’s City Winery, which is located currently at Varick Street in Manhattan, is being forced to relocate by none other than Disney itself. The City Winery is known for putting on well-attended shows by a variety of artists. Disney has bought out the building where the winery has been located for the past decade and plans to make room for the company’s new NYC headquarters by demolishing it and the surrounding city block.

    According to Gothamist, Disney signed a $650 million, 99-year lease with Trinity Church for the entire city block, with all the buildings to be demolished. “This is not unanticipated,” City Winery CEO Michael Dorf tells Gothamist. “When we signed our lease ten years ago there was a discussion and a clause about what would happen if they were to demolish the building. It foretold of the future. Trinity Church has been a good landlord and communicating with me about what was happening over the last couple of years. It was not a surprise at all. No one anticipated Disney to consummate the deal so quickly.”

    The Winery hopes to be able to move on to “bigger, better and improved space,” according to their press release, in attempts to try to find the bright side in their forced relocation. Their hope is to reopen the new space on January 1, 2020 with a main venue with a 300 capacity and have a secondary venue with a 150- capacity performance space. They are also hoping to be able to update their kitchens and add a wine making facility.

  • Phish Releases Compilation Album, ‘Live Bait Vol. 14’

    After dropping the news of an exclusive, first-ever vinyl pressing of the 1997 live album Slip Stitch and Pass,” Phish followed up fast by releasing an entirely free edition to their Live Bait compilation series. Live Bait Vol. 14 includes a total of seven carefully hand-picked jams by Phish archivist, Kevin Shapiro.

    The chosen few span from an 8/7/97 “Harry Hood” to a well-loved “Tweezer”> “Prince Caspian” from 2015’s Magnaball festival in Watkins Glen, NY. This year’s Curveball Festival will round the phans back up to the same watering hole from August 17-19.Live Bait Vol. 14

  • Phish Reveal Exclusive ‘Slip Stitch and Pass’ Vinyl Release at Curveball

    As the masses are prepping their festival checklists for August in the gorges of Western NY, Phish announced that their own JEMP Records will reveal the first vinyl release of Slip Stitch and Pass exclusively at this summer’s Curveball Festival.

    As noted by Phish Dry Goods, the exclusive, festival-ready release will be “pressed on two-color splatter (blue and purple), foil numbered LPs.” A celebratory, limited edition Drew Millard screen print will also be tossed in for purchasers during the August 17-19 weekend in the woods. Slip Stitch and Pass is Phish’s second live album and is compromised of highlights from their March 1, 1997 performance at the Markthalle in Hamburg. Originally, it was released on October 28, 1997.

    For collectors immediately alarmed by the issue of safely protecting a vinyl in the dead summer heat, the JEMP Record store will provide an air conditioned merch-check so the records can Cool it Down all Curveball weekend long. Be sure to check out the vinyl listening station, where festival goers can get an all senses, in-person feel for the album. Alongside the new LP will be pressings of Billy Breathes, A Live One, The White Tape, Junta, Lawn Boy, Rift, A Picture of Nectar and a variety of side projects.

  • Circles Around the Sun Announces East Coast Tour Dates

    Circles Around The Sun just announced five East Coast shows in August to support their upcoming double album, Let It Wander, available Aug. 17 on Rhino Records. The run begins in Asbury Park, NJ, followed by dates in Brooklyn, Ardmore, PA and Burlington, VT before concluding at Huichica East Festival in New York’s Hudson Valley.

    Circles Around the Sun (CATS) was originally only supposed to record a handful of Grateful Dead-influenced instrumentals to be played during the set breaks at the Dead’s “Fare Thee Well” concerts in 2015. But between the positive response to the tracks and the band’s enjoyment in making music together they decided to keep the band going.

    Their new album, Let It Wander, is a new beginning for the band as they move beyond their original music which was trying to evoke the spirit of the Dead and allows them to fully embrace their own personality. The album’s first single is called “Immovable Object” and shows just how the band in moving away from their Dead inspired sound to music with filled with musical turns leaving the listener not knowing what to expect next.

    Among the album’s highlights is “One For Chuck,” which features a surprise cameo by Chuck D himself. The leader of legendary hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy just happened to stop by the studio while the band was listening to a song they’d just recorded and ended up creating an intro for the track.

    The band is comprised of guitarist Neal Casal and keyboardist Adam MacDougall (bandmates in the Chris Robinson Brotherhood) along with bassist Dan Horne (Jonathan Wilson, Grateful Shred) and drummer Mark Levy (We Dream Dawn, Bonfire Dub).   • Shooter Jennings Announces New Dates in Anticipation of New Album, ‘SHOOTER’

    Shooter Jennings started his “Bound Ta Git Down Tour.” on July 4 but recently has added new dates which go all the way into November. The tour is partially in anticipation of his new album, SHOOTER, which arrives at all music retailers and streaming services via Low Country Sound and Elektra Records on Friday, August 10.

    “The Bound Ta Git Down Tour” includes not only headlining shows but also dates supporting Turnpike Troubadours.   • The Arc, Set to Open in Kaufman Arts District, Names Former Webster Hall VP as COO

    The Arc, a new 20,000 square foot concert hall and recording studio in the Kaufman Arts District in Long Island City, will open in early 2019 with former Webster Hall Executive Vice President Rich Pawelczyk named COO. The management team plans to bring strategic brand partnering and the world’s top talent and emerging artists  to The Arc.

    A 1931 vintage building, The Arc has a unique arched, wooden cathedral-like ceiling with Douglas Fir bowstring trusses that imbue the space with spectacular acoustics. Featuring both large and small performance spaces, along with a full 21st century recording studio and a total capacity of 2,000, The Arc will have a sound stage, full sound and video recording capabilities, and state-of-the-art acoustics that will rank among the finest in the world.

    The Arc will fill a void in the NYC music scene, featuring an arched antique wood wooden ceiling for unparalleled acoustics (see release below), two performance spaces, recording studio/sound stage, and 24 hr cafe.     The venue is part of John Belitsky’s DMNDR network, a global community of artists, musicians and fans that user DMNDR to share their work. The venue will serve as DMNDR’s physical concert and recording venue.

    The Arc is named for its mission to showcase musical talent at every stage in the arc of an artist’s career—from emerging talent to well-established artists. The Arc is a full city block-through of event space in Long Island City—New York’s fastest growing neighborhood only minutes from Midtown Manhattan—that will feature a state-of-the-art recording studio, media center for streaming live videos, a 24/hour café featuring cuisine of 600+ local food vendors, and spaces for local talent and community collaborations. Corporate branding partnerships are in development.

    To date The Arc has held small, well-received performances and sessions including LoveHoney, Madison McFerrin, Jackie Venson, Jon Fratelli (of the Fratellis), Oxymorrons, Mosie, and many more. Current performances are by invitation only and occur weekly.

  • Public Image Ltd. Announces North American Dates

    John Lydon’s Public Image Ltd. has been celebrating its 40th anniversary throughout 2018. Dates throughout Europe and Japan have dotted the band’s itinerary the early part of the year and now, beginning in October, the tour comes to North America.

    The Public Image is Rotten tour kicks off in New Orleans on Oct. 9 and makes its way to Asbury Park and Brooklyn on Oct. 13 and 15. Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. local time. PiL is also touring in support of a documentary with the same title as the tour, which will see its theatrical premiere at the Metrograph in New York on Sept. 14.

    The band is also set to release a career-spanning box set on July 20, titled The Public Image is Rotten (Songs From the Heart). The expansive box set will be available as five-CD/two-DVD, six-LP and in digital formats. It will include radio sessions, B-sides, remixes as well as the PiL Singles Collection (1978-2015). Also included is a complete live performance from New York’s Ritz from July 16, 1989.

    The DVDs include PiL performances on the BBC shows Old Grey Whistle Test and Top of the Pops, two complete live shows from Estonia in 1988 and Sydney, Australia in 2013 and various promo and music videos.

  • 10,000 Maniacs Performing at Cohoes Music Hall July 14

    10,000 MANIACS will be rolling into Cohoes Music Hall in Cohoes on Saturday, July 14 at 8:00 p.m.

    10,000 Maniacs started in Jamestown, and were founded in 1981. They are known from the early “alternative rock” movement, having released close to 20 albums, including 2015’s Twice Told Tales and 2016’s Playing Favorites. They consistently tour not only the U.S. but abroad as well.

    This year marks three significant anniversaries in the band’s history. Their first full-length recording was released 35 years ago. Secrets of the I Ching, which caught the attention of BBC radio legend John Peel, who brought the band to the attention of millions of listeners worldwide. 25 years ago and the second significant event happened; Mary Ramsey began her tenure as lead singer for the band. It was in that same year the 3rd significant thing happened, which was that 10,000 Maniacs made their iconic performance on MTV’s “Unplugged”; the released recording would go on to sell millions of copies.

    In celebration of these milestones on their 2018 tour, 10,000 Maniacs will play select acoustic sets including songs from Secrets of the I Ching and MTV Unplugged as well as their hit songs. 10,000 Maniacs is comprised of Mary Ramsey, lead vocals,viola; Steven Gustafson, bass guitar; Dennis Drew, keyboard; Jeff Erickson, guitar; John Lombardo, guitar; and Jerome Augustyniak, drums.
