  • Saranac Jams Lineup Includes Taking Back Sunday, Dark Star Orchestra, Dirty Heads, Get The Led Out

    Saranac Brewery has booked some exciting jams and shows this summer. American Reggae bands Dirty Heads and SOJA will be taking the stage on Tuesday, June 20. Zeppelin tribute band Get the Led Out will perform Friday, July 21. Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Star Orchestra will be playing on Tuesday, Aug. 1. Alternative rockers Taking Back Sunday are slated to play alongside Every Time I Die and All Get Out on Friday, Aug. 18.

  • Stephanie Quayle Takes ‘The Flock’ on the Road for the 2017 Winnebago Tour

    Standing out in a crowd of thousands is what each country music artist hopes for as they head to Nashville to pursue their dreams.  Keeping a pulse on the music scene, Rolling Stone magazine often features the newest up and coming country artists making waves in music city.  These artists stand out in the crowd of thousands and it’s generally a uniqueness in their sounds and character that catches the eyes of the media world. Stephanie Quayle is one of May’s featured artists that shines like a star among the night time honky tonks and pubs on music row.

    With the release of “Drinking With Dolly” last year, it was no surprise this tried and true country gal would soon achieve her dreams and the country music world would take notice.

    Raised in Montana on her family’s bison farm, Stephanie shares how she often listened to country music’s legends on the AM radio in the barn while doing chores.  At the age four she began piano lessons, and at fifteen bought her first guitar. It was immediately after that she took to performing and knew  this was what she was meant to do.

    Splitting her time these days with her husband between her homes and farms in Montana, North Carolina, and Nashville. Stephanie finds time to do it all.  A huge philanthropist, she advocates for St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Operation Smile and the local food bank raising funds and awareness for those in need. Recently signed as the ambassador for Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply, you can see that she is country through and through.

    Her recent release of “Winnebago,” a fun loving tune, takes the listener across the nation both through the lyrics as well as this summer as she hits the road on the 2017 Winnebago Tour with KOA Campgrounds.

    Making two stops along the way in New York, you can catch her perform in New York City at the Rockwood Music Hall, as well as at the Staller Center for the Arts at SUNY Stony Brook.  Don’t miss your chance to meet this multi talented young lady as she becomes a household name and her music hits the airwaves this summer.

  • Albany’s Alive at 5 Concert Series Begins June 8 with Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and Let’s Be Leonard

    Alive at 5 is heading into its 28th season, starting off on June 8 with performances by Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and Let’s Be Leonard. The summer series takes place at Jennings Landing from 5-8 p.m. on Thursdays (with the exception of July 4). A partial lineup for other dates has been announced, including performances by Average White Band, The Funky Meters, Marian Hill, and King Yellowman & the Sagittarius Band. Regional support for these headliners comes from Victory Soul Orchestra, Wurliday, and Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets.

    Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe  is a funk soul band from California. Frontman Denson also plays saxophone for The Rolling Stones, and just wrapped up a tour with them. Primed to release a new album this year, KDTU will be performing some of their new songs at Alive at 5.

    Saratoga’s jazz fusion phenoms Let’s Be Leonard will open the show. Renowned for their improvisational style, the band just released Live at Gug’s, a session recorded in Glenn’s Falls earlier this year. Read the NYS Music review.

  • Get Ready for Second Annual IT Fest with Intrepid Travelers!

    Founded on friendship, fun and a sense of freedom. Intrepid Travelers are a quartet based in Buffalo that defines itself through boundless improvisation and eclectic evolution. 2017 has been a huge year for the band. Touring relentlessly around the United States from coast to coast, the fellas in IT have been redefining the limitations of improvisational music, and have their own fest. Be sure to check them out at Summer Camp if you are there this weekend.

    A little bit about IT:   Two days and two nights including Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10. Entrance to the festival will cost you just $20. The festival is held on the beautiful private property of Josh Skowronski in Alden, NY. Enter at the green gate on South Blossom Lea Drive. This is an all weather event. Parking and camping are included upon entry. The Land itself is 14 gorgeous acres with hiking trails and the beautiful Cayuga Creek. There will be an array of food and drink vendors on site. Intrepid Travelers will play three sets over the two days. One on Friday and two on Saturday. Saturday night’s set will feature live painting from various Buffalo artists. Music ends at 10pm each night.

    IT Fest’s mission is to showcase local talent across Western New York. This year will feature fire performer Asha Ashwell on Friday and Saturday night. Saturday morning will feature a yoga class with Ashley Strazzella. Saturday afternoon will also feature a Kan Jam tournament, a hoop class, a workshop on mysticism, spirituality, public health and tarot card readings! Their goal for the weekend is to create a temporary community in which the arts are brought to the forefront in unison with nature. After the music ends each night there will be a massive campfire.   • Strange Machines To Host Inaugural Festival At The Stone Church In NH

    June 2 & 3, Strange Machines will host the very first Strange Days Festival at The Stone Church in Newmarket, NH. The guys are bringing a jam-heavy lineup to one of their favorite venues. An intimate Friday night includes an opening set from Litz and the first of many from the Strange Train. Saturday is an all day affair that ends with a double dose from the hosts, including a Doors tribute set. Single-day passes are available and a two-day pass is only $20 and worth every penny.   • SOLARiS to Perform in Saratoga and Brooklyn this Weekend

    The electronic jam sounds of SOLARiS return to New York State this weekend with two big shows in Saratoga Springs and Brooklyn. 
    Saturday catch SOLARiS at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs featuring Orchard Lounge DJ Ben Silver and on Sunday at Brooklyn Bowl featuring Wax Future and Polyvamp.

    The all instrumental SOLARiS features a great deal of original music with a range of electronica including dubstep, drum n bass, jazz fusion and funk, all intertwined between drummer Daniel Scott Lyons, keyboardist Jared Raphel and bassist Vinny Naro. Naro shared his thoughts on the upcoming run:

    “Expect a new and improved Solaris. We’re sounding surprisingly more polished these days, most likely from the result of the new sounds we’ve been developing and just simply being together as a band for 7 years. While there will always be the staple original songs, like “Vice” and “Nostromo,” there are some new covers as well; such as the “Stranger Things” TV theme, our new instrumental remix of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” and more. As always, we will also be doing our usual exploratory improv, finding new sounds, deep electronic grooves, etc… If you’re attending the shows this weekend, put your seatbelt on because it’s gonna be a very intense and funky ride.”

  • Westcott Theater to Feature Grammy Nominee The Record Company

    What a difference a year makes. Los Angeles based trio The Record Company released their Concord Records debut album, Give It Back to You, on February 12, 2016. Exactly one year later, they were among the nominees for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards.

    “Off the Ground” and “Rita Mae Young” are infectious songs showcasing Chris Vos’ gritty vocals and greasy slide guitar, as well as the rhythm section of bass player Alex Stiff and drummer Mark Cazorla.

    “I always think of any performance as one less time, not one more time.” says Vos, “Nobody can say how many shows you get to play in your life. So we try to play our guts out, leave it all on the table, and have fun doing it”.

    The Record Company with special guest, Smooth Hound Smith, will appear at The Westcott Theater in Syracuse, New York, on Saturday May 20th, along with opening act Smooth Hound Smith. Doors open at 8:00, show begins at 9:00. Tickets are still available.

  • Leif Vollebekk Playing Rochester’s German House

    Montreal multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Leif Vollebekk is bringing his deep and moving lyricism to Rochester for what will be a special show at the Historic German House. He is touring behind his critically-acclaimed third album, Twin Solitude, released earlier this year. The three years between records saw him in a creative rut, brought on by extended periods on the road. But he was able to find inspiration in everyday beauty, the seemingly mundane. It has garnered plenty of praise, from NPR Music admiring it as “devastatingly beautiful,” Brooklyn Vegan calling it “lovely, soulful and spare,” while The Fader praised Vollebekk’s “passionate Broken Social Scene-adjacent melodies wrapped in a casual, jammy atmosphere.”

    Local pop-up show promoter Honest Folk, a year into their enterprise, are bringing Vollebekk for their first show at the German House in Rochester’s South Wedge this Thursday, May 18. The show will begin around 7pm. Tickets are $30 and are available at their website. A portion of the proceeds from the show will benefit the Center for Youth, a local organization that provides comprehensive programs and services—from prevention education and counseling to emergency shelter and youth development opportunities.

  • Brian Wilson Brings ‘Pet Sounds’ Tour to New York

    Brian Wilson has extended his Pet Sounds: The Final Performances tour. The new dates include stops in Rochester, New York City and Syracuse.Brian Wilson has been on an extensive tour performing the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds in its entirety. The tour, billed as “Pet Sounds: The Final Performances,” was recently extended to add a number of dates in Europe and North America. The tour makes three stops in New York. Rochester’s Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre gets a visit on Sept. 19. They make a stop on Sept. 23 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The final New York date is Oct. 1 in Syracuse at the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theatre.

    The tour extension also includes several stop in the nearby Northeast. Wilson plays Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut on Sept. 21. They stop by Boston’s Orpheum Theatre on Sept. 22. Following their stop in New York City, they head to Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Sept. 25 to play the American Music Theatre. The next day, Sept. 26, they hit up the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey. They head back to Massachusetts on Sept. 29 to play New Bedford’s Zeiterion Theatre before returning to New Jersey on Sept. 30 for a show at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City.

    Rochester’s Party in the Park announced the 2017 lineup for the summer concert series. The lineup includes many big names in music, including Los Lobos, Living Colour, Tim Reynolds and Blues Traveler. The series also features a number of local acts on the Genesee Brewery Bowl Stage, including Personal Blend and Ocular Panther.

    Rochester’s Party in the Park summer concert series returns to celebrate 20 years. Zach Deputy, Los Lonely Boys and Pink Floyd tribute act the Machine are included in the 2017 lineup. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday to announce the full lineup.

    Party in the Park takes place weekly on Thursdays from June 15 through Aug. 10 at Rochester’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

    Tickets for the Party in the Park concerts are $5 each. Fans who plan to attend all nine shows can purchase a a Party Pack for $35 and will be able to enter via an express entry line.
