For the past several years the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District, in conjunction with the City of Troy, has presented the “Rockin’ on the River” concert series, and they recently announced the list of acts for 2014.

Each night headlines a popular tribute band, starting with Aquanett, who pays homage to the hair metal scene most popular in the ‘80s. The Grateful Dead (Blues for Breakfast), Def Leppard (Adrenalize), Michael Jackson (Who’s Bad) and other greats are immortalized.
Concerts are scheduled for Wednesday nights, and are free to the public.
Each show takes place downtown, in the Green Island Bridge Parking lot, north of the bridge. August shows, however, will be moved to Riverfront Park.

Fuego, the first studio album from Phish in nearly five years, will be released by JEMP Records on June 24. Later that day, they will perform on ‘Late Show with David Letterman.” Phish recorded Fuego with legendary producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel) last fall, as the band’s 30th anniversary approached. They memorably performed brand new songs for their Halloween ‘musical costume’ on October 31st at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
The songs for Fuego took shape during a series of visits to Phish’s longtime creative hub, The Barn, a rustic, reconstructed barn-turned-rehearsal/recording studio located outside Burlington, Vermont. There they explored dozens of ideas, which led to a notable shift in the band’s songwriting approach. While Fuego includes tracks that individual members brought to the table in usual Phish fashion, the bulk of the material was written by all four, working together at The Barn.
“For years, there’s been a distinct difference between how we did things live and how we did them in studio,” notes Jon Fishman. “But the way we go about things live, the way the musical ball is passed around, is now happening much more in the studio-not because we’re trying to duplicate how we play on stage, just because this is how we operate as a band, period.”
Fuego was recorded at Ronnie’s Place and Anarchy Studios in Nashville, TN, Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL and at The Barn in Vermont. A variety of background vocalists and horn players contributed to the album. The title track was recorded at Boardwalk Hall on October 30, as Phish prepared for the Halloween show.

Just announced today, The New Mastersounds will be playing their first ever show in Buffalo, NY later this year on Wednesday, September 3rd with Orgone. Calling England home, it’s understandable why this funky four-piece hasn’t played the area, but The Tralf will welcome them with open arms as the group has always had a great following due to their unique blend of music. Their most recent album, Therapy, was released earlier this year in March to great reviews and adds to an impressive catalog of music since their inception in 1999.
Joining them is another band who’s rarely played Buffalo in Orgone. The L.A.-based band is well-known on the West Coast, but has rarely done any extensive touring on this side of the country. Like The New Mastersounds, Orgone has its roots in funk, but stretches the boundaries in many directions as they touch on soul, boogie, disco, and afrobeat.
The combination of the two bands is going to make for one incredible night of music as they compliment each other well and likely won’t be back again for quite some time. Stay tuned for ticket info this Friday, and make sure to grab them fast to take advantage of this rare opportunity.
Buffalo’s annual Canalside summer music venue announced their concert line-up for the 2014 summer this week.
Local favorites (moe., BPO and Conehead Buddha) are sprinkled in along the names of headliners from the past (Shaggy, George Thorogood and Extreme) and more.
The final date, August 14th, is left to be announced at a later time.
This will be the first Canalside since The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation Board of Directors voted in January to enter into a contract with Global Spectrum.
Global Spectrum is one of the world’s largest and most respected venue management companies, and is now responsible for public space management at Canalside in Buffalo.

Neutral Milk Hotel, who have been touring extensively over the past couple of months, have announced a show on September 6th at Ommegang Brewery and two shows at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT on September 9th and 10th.
Neutral Milk Hotel have not been in Upstate New York since their show in Ithaca, NY last year. Their reunion tour has been an absolute success since front man Jeff Mangum brought the group back together last fall. Tickets for Ommegang will be going on sale on Friday May 9th and 10AM and are expected to sell out quickly, while Higher Ground has not been given an on sale date. This will be one of their last appearances on the east coast for the foreseeable future, so if you haven’t seen them yet, don’t miss out on this.
The City of Rochester has announced the Party in the Park lineup for 2014 and it is a doozy! This year’s events will take place back at Manhattan Square Park, where it originated.

Governors Ball who announced their lineup in January 2014 have unveiled a batch of shows surrounding the entire weekend of festivities.
On Thursday June 5th there are two concerts happening to help kick the weekend off. At Brooklyn Bowl Kurt Vile and The Violators will be gracing the stage, while over at Westway Tourist will be starting the weekend off. On Friday Washed Out will be taking on the crowd at Brooklyn Bowl starting at 11:30 PM. Saturday has the most announced shows so far with four concerts happening all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. On Sunday there are two shows announced so far with Diarrhea Planet heading to Glasslands while Damon Albarn will be heading to the intimate Irving Plaza. More after shows are going to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets for all pf these shows go on a special pre-sale April 29th 10 AM with the code “govballnyc.” If you miss out on that, a public sale will happen on Friday May 2nd. Tickets for Governors Ball are on sale now on their website.
Just yesterday, Artpark announced the remaining bands for their Tuesday and Wednesday night 2014 summer concert series they present each year. The final bands for First Niagara presents Tuesday in the Park and Coors Light Wednesdays round out a spectacular overall offering for the 2014 season and give plenty of reasons to make the short trip up to Lewiston!
In yesterday’s announcement, Artpark will add Sara Bareilles, Aretha Franklin, Sammy Hagar, Heart, Gregg Allman, Styx, and Michael McDonald + Toto to an already outstanding lineup for the upcoming season. Tickets for these events will go on sale Saturday, May 3rd at 10am with various seating options that’ll meet anyone’s budget.
