  • James Taylor Coming to Upstate in July

    jamestaylorpresssummer2014James Taylor has announced an extensive North American tour that will go from May 30th – August 5th right in the middle of the tour, Taylor will be playing back to back nights in Upstate, NY –  July 19th he will be playing at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) and the next evening July 20th, he will be at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.

    This tour is going to see James Taylor backed by an “all-star band” more information will be available in the future.  Stay right here to see who is in this band as we will be giving that information to you as we hear more about it.

    Tickets will be on sale soon and are sure to go quickly as James Taylor is always a popular act to see.  Don’t miss out on what is sure to be one of the better tours of the summer.

  • NY Living Legacy Project, The Egg Performing Arts Center – 50th Anniversary of The Beatles’ Arrival in New York

    As part of its ongoing NY Living Legacy Project, The Egg Performing Arts Center will explore the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ arrival in New York with a number of performances and related events from February 6 through 15.The celebration will include a series of multi-media events in eight area community centers and be highlighted by two performances at The Egg.

    The festivities begin with eight multi-media lectures held in various venues around the Capital Region. Led by ethnomusicologist, Beatles scholar and Skidmore College Professor Gordon Thompson, the program, entitled “She Loves You – The Beatles and New York” will explore the impact of the British invasion on New York, led by The Beatles in February 1964, their historic concert at Shea Stadium, John Lennon’s NYC connection and discuss how their music continues to be an inspiration to composers and performing artists today.

    In addition to historic film clips, recordings and photos, the program will be highlighted by live, solo piano interpretations of Beatles classic songs by Cole Broderick. Well known for his jazz, classical and original piano stylings, Mr. Broderick devoted nearly two years of his life painstakingly interpreting some of the group’s most beloved songs on his recent recording “A Solo Piano Tribute to The Beatles.” These events will take place from February 6 – 13 and are free and open to the public at the locations listed below.

  • Mike Gordon Adds New Dates to His 2014 Spring Tour

    Mike GordonIn very exciting news, Mike Gordon has added a few additional dates to his 2014 Spring Tour. With two stops being at venues that we have come to love.

    On March 30, Mike will bring his band to the beautiful Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, New York.  A few days later on April 4, Mike will be playing at the wonderful Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY.

    The Bearsville Theatre show is on sale now and the Tarrytown Music Hall show will be going on sale on January 31st at Noon.  This tour kicks off in one month in Syracuse, NY and is sure to be a great one.

  • Upstate NY Teacher Kent Knappenberger is Awarded the Inaugural 2014 Music Educator Award

    Upstate New York is home to inaugural Grammy’s 2014 Music Educator Award – Kent Knappenberger of Westfield Academy and Central School in Westfield, N.Y. was recently announced as the winner of this well deserved award.

    There were 30,000 nominees and 10 finalists for the award that recognizes teachers that have – made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. The schools of the 10 final nominees will receive a grant of $1,000 and the 9 finalist teachers will receive an equal honorarium, while Knappenberger will receive a $10,000 honorarium.

    CBS This Morning reported the news on Tuesday morning and viewers had the opportunity to see why Mr. K (as his students call him) was the natural choice for this award. Knappenberger has been teaching 6th-12th grade Music for 25 years at Westfield Academy,  he says, “for this art form there is this synergy that takes place.” Mr. K believes it is his job to find something musical in every child. Students and parents agree that he is no ordinary teacher – one student in the CBS interview said, “Mr. K makes you love music, even if you did previously, it just grows.”

    When Kent Knappenberger isn’t teaching music, he’s at home on his farm with his wife, 9 children and his farm animals. This educator surely fits the role of the type of individual many of us had in school, whom showed us the musical talent we held inside. That one life-changing teacher that brought us to embody the music that we live and breathe, in whatever capacity possible.
