Eastman School of Music Makes Its Mark at the 67th GRAMMY Awards

Adding to a long history of its award winners, The Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester is celebrating even more success at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards this weekend. The achievements highlight the special talent nurtured at The Eastman School of Music.

Associate Professor of Jazz Voice at The Eastman School of Music Sara Gazarek

Associate Professor of Jazz Voice at Eastman, Sara Gazarek, won Best Arrangement, Instruments, and Vocals for Alma, marking her second GRAMMY Award win.

Gazarek established Eastman’s Vocal Jazz Program, which began teaching its initial class in September. She adds the award is not only for her work but also for Eastman and other female vocalists aspiring to be professional jazz artists.

“To me, it’s important with the launch of this new Jazz Voice Program to have this very visible credible acknowledgment from our peers that these female jazz vocalists wrote something that is worthy of acknowledgment on a global scale. And that one of the composers now teaches and is designing and now running this brand new Jazz Voice Program at the legendary Eastman School of Music.”

Alumni also played on and contributed to winning performances, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Best Engineered Album, Classical), Los Angeles Philharmonic (Best Orchestral Performance and Best Contemporary Classical Composition), and Cleveland Orchestra (Producer of the Year, Classical), with many more nominated.
