  • Oldtone Music Festival 2024 Reveals Full Lineup After One-year Hiatus

    Driven by intense local and artist community support, the beloved Oldtone Music Festival has returned from the grave and revealed its full lineup. A one-of-a-kind 3-day hoot taking place from September 5-8 in Hillsdale, NY, the festival is making a miraculous comeback to Cool Whisper Farm after an early demise that turned out to be a one-year hiatus.

    What is Oldtone Music Festival?

    The Oldtone Roots Music Festival was founded in 2015 with a one-day show in Wassaic, NY. In 2016, the full three-stage/camping festival was launched at the Schober family’s Cool Whisper Farm in North Hillsdale, NY. The festival ran the second weekend of September until the lockdowns of 2020 forced the producers to cancel. In 2021 and 2022, attempts were made to reboot the festival in limited scope; however, by early 2023, the choice to end the festival was made.

    Nonetheless, Oldtone’s motto reads, “Participation is Preservation.” Truly the proud eastern Columbia town aims to preserve roots music and folkways through artist and audience participation and by passing traditions down by hand. As a result the Oldtone Festival has always brought the best of old-time, bluegrass, hot jazz, Cajun dance music, Western swing and other traditional styles to North Hillsdale and was sorely missed in the community. The niche festival remains true to the small town, standing out amongst a sea of corporatized summer festivals, Oldtone is, by design, an intimate, rural, artist-driven festival without the trappings of larger mega festivals. Thus, it was only a matter of time before the vision was brought back to life.

    Don’t Call It a Comeback

    Thus fittingly, by the fall of 2023 the possibility of reviving the festival as a non-profit event became a reality. Armed with a new management team and the support and enthusiasm of the Schober family, Oldtone Arts, Inc. was formed. Consequently by October of 2023, the new team received not-for-profit status via the New York Foundation for the Arts and the hard work to revamp the festival and make it everything it can be again. Henceforth Oldtone is now co-produced by Jim Wright and Trevor Roush. As a result any of the same people are still working on the show, with some fresh talent. Meanwhile, it is their hope that the festival will have a better chance to be sustainable and continue to promote the same great roots music.

    Moreover, artist interaction remains a high priority, with hands-on workshops, a dance tent, band and instrument contests, and even a side stage in order to pull camper-pickers up for a few numbers, which creates a festival experience unlike any other. This year, Oldtone is adding Latin-American roots music in a big way out of the gate, with Grammy-winners Los Texmaniacs.

    Joining previously announced artists like the Grammy Award-winning conjunto band Los Texmaniacs, The Deslondes, JP Harris, and more are Sweet Megg, Down Hill Strugglers, Kiki Cavazos, Ranse Chase, Krissie & the Kranks, The Alum Ridge Boys & Ashlee, Beg, Steal or Borrow, and Slinky Armadillo.

    The Oldtone Festival is back, and it’s coming together as a bigger and better event. We can’t wait to see you all dancing to some of the best roots music being made these days in our big dance tent. And bring your instruments. With some of the best field jams in the Northeast, this pickers’ festival packs the campground with music late into the night.

    Camping Gates will open at noon on Thursday, September 5, for full festival ticket holders who booked to tent camp and for those with RVs and trailers that are longer than 18 feet. Please check the Oldtone website for all event updates.

  • Hoosick Falls Summer Concert Series Lineup Announced

    The small village of Hoosick Falls, located in northeastern Rensselaer County, has announced the lineup for its 2024 Hoosick Falls Summer Concert Series. Held in the Wood Park gazebo, all shows will run between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m..

    The village of Hoosick Falls, inside the town of Hoosick, is a charming upstate town with a population of about 3,600, just 45 minutes from Albany. Dotted with rolling hills and mountains, Hoosick Falls is accentuated by the Walloomsac and Hoosic rivers, which run directly through the town.

    Wood Park, just a block from the Hoosic River, is host to many Hoosick Falls events, one of which is the Hoosick Falls Summer Concert Series.

    Kicking off on July 6, the series will feature free live performances in the Wood Park gazebo. All shows are held in July and August on Friday or Saturday nights.

    Some of the bands performing include The Roadhouse Rhythm and Blues Band (July 6), a new country band fronted by Hoosick residents Krissy Fauler, William Goober Steller and the multi-talented Bluz House Rockers (July 20), who have rocked the Capital Region for over 29 years.

    Food will be available from The Moose Kaboose food truck and a cash bar from UNIHOG. All shows are free and made possible by sponsors.

    So bring a chair or blanket and enjoy some of the best live music the capital region has to offer!

  • Five For Fighting Nationwide Tour To Begin – 9 Shows Across NY

    Five For Fighting kicked off Independence Day with a performance on Live With Kelly and Mark at “Live’s 4th of July Family Party” in New York City. In addition the Grammy-nominated soft-rock star has announced an upcoming 4-month nationwide tour beginning in July until October. Moreover the tour will be split into two separate legs; a full-band Tour and a string quartet leg of the tour.

    FFF — also known as John Ondrasik — will be joined by experienced banmadates; drummer Randy Cooke, bassist Sean Hurley, and guitarist Peter Thorn for the first 2 months of the tour. Comparatively he will be joined by the likes of violinist Melissa Tong –who toured with Post Malone in 2023, Tony-winner Katie Kresek on violin, Broadway’s own Chris Cardona on viola and cello player Peter Sachon for the tours finals two-months. Markedly FFF’s eclectic style has brought out a wide-arrange of highly decorated performers.

  • Mihali Announces Dates at Garcia’s and The Yard at Ray’s

    Rising Reggae star Mihali just announced nine new tour dates, including The Yard at Ray’s in Bouckville, NY on July 25 and Garcia’s in Port Chester, NY on Aug 8.

    Chiefly, Mihali is the co-founder and former lead singer of the band Twiddle. However, the band parted ways in 2023. But Mihali was recording solo music long before their end. Thus, his first piece of solo music was his song “Breath and Let Go” which he released in 2020. 

    Mihali, or Mihali Savoulidis, continued to write throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover Savoulidis sent Ivy Terra front man, Nathan Feinstein, a demo of his song “All Day” and Feinstein finished the song remotely and sent it back. As a result the two began to collaborate frequently, with Feinstein producing Savoulidis’s first record from 2022’s Effection.

    According to Savoulidis, there’s a lot of happiness and hope portrayed on Effection. “Personally, I’m wearing a lot of hats right now,” said the Reggae star. “I’m incredibly proud and excited to be releasing so much music and, as always, evolving.”

    Significantly two of his shows will be in his home state of Vermont. Hence on Aug 15 and 22 he will perform at Nectar’s in Burlington. Additionally there will be two New York stops. Moreover during his set at the Yard at Ray’s, Savoulidis will collaborate with the hip-hop blues band G. Love and Special Sauce.

  • Waddington Announces Summer Concert Series Lineup for 15th Year

    Just south of Canada, the quaint town of Waddington, NY, is bringing back its annual Waddington Summer Concert Series between July 5 and August 23. Acts in this series have entertained over 15,000 people in just the last five years, with 2024 marking the fifteenth overall year of the series in the beautiful pavilion at Island View Park.

    Waddington, NY, is a small and close-knit community with a population of about 2,200 people. Known for some of the best sunsets in the North Country, Waddington is an idyllic destination for anybody in the area looking for a day-long getaway.

    However, aside from the town’s walking trails, river-front beach, and annual carp fishing tournaments, the Waddington Summer Concert Series is one of the town’s biggest recreational outlets.

    Going by the theme of “Music on the Shore – 2024” for this year’s series, the Waddington summer series is back for its 15th straight year. Moreover, like every year, Waddington summer series is free to the public. Similarly, all shows will run between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., aside from three that have extended hours. Shows with unique hours are noted in the full-listed lineup.

    Additionally performances will take place at the Island View Park pavilion, just next to the St. Lawrence River. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch one of the town’s famous sunsets while watching a show.

    July 5th – Mark Rust

    Mark Rust will kick off the annual Alice Carr Memorial Dedication concert. Mark, a multitalented musician from Woodstock, NY will perform favorite songs to memorialize friends and family lost to our community in the past year.

    July 12th – 6:30 to 9:30: Leave Those Kids Alone

    New to the pavilion stage is a phenomenal group coming to us from Ontario, Canada. These talented kids will grace our stage for 3 hours! The “Kids” will entertain with a mix of classic rock covers and original tunes, and they will rock it!

    July 19th – 6:30 to 9:30: Double Axel

    Back by popular demand, we present everyone’s favorite group: Alex, Rob and Frank have been making music together since 1971. Also, they love what they do and it shows.

    July 26th – Phil Hurley

    Phil Hurley is returning to the Waddington stage this year. Phil is a singer, songwriter, guitarist,
    vocalist and bassist. This talented musician does it all. In fact he has played with many bands you would
    recognize and has written songs for films and TV shows. Phil is a true professional and will certainly
    entertain.

    The Waddington Concert Series is an annual stop for these talented musicians who never disappoint.

    Tas Cru returns this year to share his own unique brand of Blues. Tas is a prolific singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has recorded 5 albums in the last 7 years. Namely, Tas performs a mix of original songs along with crowd-pleasing classics, all with his own twist and unique style.

    August 16th – Chris Taylor and the Custom Taylor Band

    Hailing from central New York, Chris and his band are New York’s premiere Top 40 Country Music band. The band has opened for many country music recording artists. Come on down for an up-close concert with these very talented musicians.

    We are very proud and honored to present Northbound. These talented men have been playing a mix of pop, folk and rock together for years. They are tight and in-tune, with a relaxed interaction on stage
    that is sure to charm and entertain.

  • Luzerne Music Center Announces Summer Concerts

    The Luzerne Music Center has announced its summer concerts before the beginning of the 2024-2025 season. Hosted in the town of Lake Luzerne, the concerts showcase the talent of regional and local musicians. Moreover attendees can enjoy dozens of performances of classical music from local groups to national touring ensembles. Notably, a wide variety of shows will be hosted this summer throughout the town, including a Chamber Music Festival, student concerts, and the Faculty Artist Series.

    Luzerne Summer Lineup

    Kicking off the summer is the Luzerne Chamber Music Festival. The festival includes performances from musicians all over the Northeast, including New York City, Philadelphia, and more. Musicians of the NYC Ballet Orchestra kick off the festival on Monday, July 8, presenting a quintet and sextet playing pieces of Mozart and Brahms. Following the NYC Ballet’s performance is the American String Quartet on Monday, July 29, playing pieces from composers like Beethoven, Caroline Shaw, Vivian Fung, and Maurice Ravel. Lastly, the musicians of The Dalí Quartet and The Philadelphia Orchestra, with CEO and Artistic Director Elizabeth Pitcairn, close out the festival on August 5 and 12, respectively.

    Following the Chamber Music Festival is a series of Faculty Concerts, performed by faculty members of the Luzerne Music Center. Each concert incorporates music from all periods, including LMC’s composers-in-residence, James Chu and Connor Elias Way. The weekly Faculty Concerts are every Friday, beginning on June 28 and ending on August 9.

    Along with festivals, the Luzerne Music Center hosts free concerts featuring their own students. Starting on June 29, students of the Luzerne Music Center will alternate between solo and chamber showcases, displaying what they have learned over the course of the year. The LMC Symphony Orchestra joins them starting June 30, including a piano prelude for specific events. All student and LMC Symphony Orchestra concerts are free and welcome all ages.

  • Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival Announces 2024 Lineup

    Returning for its 22nd year, the Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival has announced the lineup of its day-long showcase of bluegrass and roots talent on August 17 in Copiague, Long Island.

    The festival will run between noon and 7:00 p.m. in Tanner Park on Long Island’s Great South Bay and feature performances from seven accomplished artists and bands.

    Copiague, located in Suffolk County, is a hamlet on the southern end of Long Island, just about an hour from Queens.

    The Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival has been a staple in Copiague and the New York bluegrass and roots scene in general since its inception in 2003. After all, not many local festivals are able to run for more than 20 years with no breaks or cancellations.

    Returning for the 2024 season with a date of August 17, this year’s festival lineup has not disappointed.

    The Jacob Jolliff Band, a nationally touring group of virtuosic pickers headed by lifelong mandolinist Jacob Jolliff, is a must-see. Miles to Dayton, a band with a love for blending elements of folk, rock, classical and funk into an irresistible invitation, will bring their four-part vocal harmonies, clever songwriting, improvisational violin and cello and infectious rhythms to Copiague in another essential performance.

    But performances aren’t only for the billed artists. If you’re a bluegrass musician at any level, bring your instruments for the bluegrass pickin’ sessions that are available to all attendees.

    In addition to the all-day music, food vendors will be at the festival for anybody looking for a bite to eat.

    Free parking is available, and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for extra relaxation.

  • Brunswick Summer Concert Series Returns for 24th Year

    Back for its 24th year in a row, the Brunswick Summer Concert Series is here for another summer of jams in the park. The free-to-the-public series will feature shows every Tuesday between 6:30-8 p.m. from July 9 to August 27 in the Brunswick Community Center field.

    Brunswick, located in Troy, just northeast of Albany, has long been a musically rich town. With the combined populations of Troy and Albany reaching above 150,000, the region has a lot of space for fostering talent.

    Initially beginning in 2001 as the only Albany-area summer concert series other than the wildly successful Alive at 5, the Brunswick Summer Concert Series has evolved into a musical community staple. What was once a far-out idea to organizers now attracts around 400 people to all of its concerts. Bands that perform in the series are often local to Brunswick or at least have local connections.

    Located in the beautiful Brunswick Community Center field, the series’ venue has everything that one could need. All shows will take place on the community center’s wooden stage, overlooking a large grass field that’s perfect for blankets and lawn chairs. A professional sound system will also be hooked up for all shows, courtesy of local audiovisual company Live Sound Inc. Performances will usually have food vendors that open 30 minutes before the start time so that guests have the opportunity to get food before the performances begin.

    One of this summer’s vendors is the local American food restaurant, Big Bellies. Big Bellies has a permanent storefront in Troy but also operates a food truck for special occasions. Come down and see Big Bellies at the Brunswick Community Center for burgers and fries ahead of any of the shows.

    As with every year, this summer has a wide variety of acts. From Get Up Jack’s Celtic/Americana to The Tichy Boys’ country/rockabilly, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Big Fez & The Surfmatics, a surf and beach band, will even bring along two dance instructors to help anyone in the crowd looking to learn dances from the 60s to fit the mood during their performance on July 23.

    So if you’ve got the time, take a trip to the Brunswick Community Center on a Tuesday night this summer and enjoy an evening of live music, delicious food and a spirited atmosphere.

  • Summer Gods Tour brings Third Eye Blind, Yellowcard and Arizona to Darien Lake

    The fourth edition of the Summer Gods Tour 2024 with Arizona, Yellowcard and the headliner Third Eye Blind took action at the Darien Lake Amphitheater on July 3.

    The evening at Darien Lake opened up with pop rock and electropop band Arizona carrying out a sensational performance, warming up the crowd and they handed over to the 90’s rock band Yellowcard.

    “Lights and Sounds” was the opening song from Yellowcard, greeted by fans. Punk rock music stirred up the crowd as they played “Cut Me, Mick”, “Southern Air”, “One Bedroom”, “Keeper”, “The Hurt Is Gone”, “Lift a Sail”. They ended the show with “Ocean Avenue”, set the audience to enjoy the head liner Third Eye Blind.

    Third Eye Blind, fronted by Stephan Jenkins, showcasing their musical talent and fascinating stage performance. Opening with iconic song “Motorcycle Drive By”, the band instantly had the crowd singing along the lyrics. After they performed “Shipboard Cook”, the band took a short break to start an acoustic session.

    Jenkins played an acoustic solo after the song “Slow motion”, and Brad, the drummer, played awesome drum solo at the end of the song “Jumper”. As they ended the show with “How’s It Going To Be”, the crowd erupted into cheers, marking the end of a memorable evening.

    Ned Evett, a pioneer in the world of fretless guitarists, makes his return to upstate New York for the first time in over two decades this August.

    Evett kicks off a string of live performances with a live concert at the Westcott Theater in Syracuse, on August 6. Immediately following, is his show at The Lounge at Revolution Gallery on August 7. Evett finishes off his New York stops with a live show at the Spirit Room in Rochester.

    Over the last two decades, Ned Evett has cemented himself as an influential figure in the world of guitar players. In the early 1990s, Evett smashed his guitar after playing a show and handcrafted his own fretless guitar. Since then, Evett has mastered the style of fretless playing, which requires an immense understanding of the instrument’s sound and impeccable perfect pitch.

    During his career, Evett has performed in over 30 countries with hundreds of touring artists, including Joe Satriani, Leon Russell, Kansas, Eric Johnson, George Thorogood, and John Scofield. Despite his extensive touring history, he has not made a return to upstate New York in over two decades. His name might be familiar to longtime guitar fans in the region, though. In 2003, Evett won the North American Rock Guitar Competition at the University of Buffalo. Since then, Evett has received massive critical acclaim. Described by Guitar Player magazine as “the world’s first fretless guitar rockstar” and dubbed “the king of the glass-necked guitar” by USA Today, Evett is the inventor of the glass-necked fretless guitar and the glass slide capo.

    Evett will perform in a trio, with Rochester-based Steve Imburgia on drums and percussion and Brian Barr on bass for the New York shows. He will perform songs from his forthcoming record, Strange Kind of Freedom, which is set to release on November 8, as well as several fan favorites from his 12 prior solo releases.
