  • Punk Band Bayside Release New Single “The Devils” Along with New Album

Queens-based punk act Bayside have announced the release of their latest single, “The Devils,” along with new album There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive.

Bayside creates music to captivate audiences with a mix of introspective storytelling and powerful blend of punk, rock, and metal. The band’s latest single and album are set to leave an indelible mark on the music scene. Bayside hopes to be reviewed as one of the most influential bands of their generation.

The band has always focused on creating songs that are relevant to people who want substance, rather than a specific genre. Bayside rejects coasting on past success and proves time and again that the best is yet to come.

The new single, “The Devils” has a very catchy melody with soaring vocals and a mix of chugging and wailing guitar riffs. This textbook pop-punk track has quite punchy drumbeats throughout, impressive metalcore guitar solos, and vocals packed with emotion.

The single offers a sound that resembles that of an action movie soundtrack. The band’s music has changed quite a bit over the years. It has turned from alt-punk to more pop-punk, and both sounds fit the musicians well.

“We just wanted to write a ripper that keeps you on your toes. The chant was a melody that I kept humming to myself when I was walking my dogs. I put some words to it and we were going to use it as a bridge. We loved it so much we thought the song had to start that way.”

Frontman Anthony Raneri on the latest single “The Devils”

Listeners can expect a captivating experience that showcases the band’s raw talent and vibrant energy.

The album is compiled of nine live tracks. Many of the songs on the album have very strong Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band inspiration to them that is very apparent. The sound that The Pit Brothers Band achieved is comparable to groovy, bluesy jam bands. A common theme throughout the album is a high intensity groove with various titillating sounds playing parts of their own.

The live album has unique and captivating energy and sound. The group displays compelling organ sounds, quick and witty guitar riffs, and a jovial vocal style that keeps the listener bopping. There is much Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, and even Bob Dylan undertones sprinkled throughout.

  • Goose Announce new Drummer, “Ted Tapes 2024,” Headline Tour Stopping at CMAC and Forest Hills

It is an exciting day to be a Goose fan as the rock quintet has announced they are bringing new drummer Cotter Ellis to the group, releasing Ted Tapes 2024, an album comprised of instrumental improvisations captured during Ellis’s auditions on drums. And if that wasn’t enough, the group kicks off their new headliner tour this summer, coming to CMAC on June 15 and Forest Hills Stadium on June 29.

    Goose by Zak Radik.

Goose released their debut album in 2016 and quickly took flight, playing countless shows, and amassing a cult-like following. Known for their unique brand of irresistible songcraft, fluid musicianship, and spirited improvisational performance, the quintet’s 2022 critically acclaimed record Dripfield debuted at #2 on Billboard’s “Top New Artist Albums” chart.

They have spent much of the past decade on a seemingly infinite tour schedule that includes sold-out headline shows at renowned venues such as Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Nashville, TN’s Ryman Auditorium, and New York City’s hallowed Radio City Music Hall; a sold-out co-headline run alongside Trey Anastasio Band; a sold-out EU/UK headline tour, and show-stealing appearances at such festivals as Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Electric Forest, and Dead & Company’s Playing In The Sand in Riviera Cancun, MX. Recent highlights include a sold-out, five-night run at the historic Capitol Theater and 2023’s 10th annual Goosemas holiday celebration at Hampton, VA’s famed Hampton Coliseum.

“I first saw Cotter play with his band Swimmer at Nectar’s some years ago,” says Rick Mitarotonda. “I was sitting solo at one of the bar tables right in front of the stage with the PA ripping. The set was awesome, they’re all fantastic players and I was taken with the buoyant energy and how much fun they were having. Something had me glued to the drums though. His pocket and feel were gripping. He really told a story with his playing that night. It was an experience that always stuck with me.”

These Ted Tapes tracks are improvisational moments from the first few sessions with Cotter, recorded solely for the purpose of reference, not intended for any kind of release. The instruments and microphones were rigged up quickly, and the playing was raw and free from any expectations. The first track, “Leo,” is the opening pick up jam from the first session, the first notes ever played together. There were some consistent threads we all felt in the room throughout these early sessions; ease of communication, freely flowing ideas, and a feeling of effortlessness moving through different zones. We experienced a patience that allowed all of our personalities to come out and energy to well up in new ways. It feels like a door just beginning to open. We couldn’t be more stoked for what’s to come.

    Rick Mitarotonda

  • Khruangbin Announce Tour, Coming to Buffalo, Saratoga Springs, and Queens

Alt trio Khruangbin has announced they are embarking on a major North American tour with support from Hermano Gutiérrez, John Carroll Kirby, Peter Cat Recording Co., Men I Trust, and Arooj Aftab. The A LA SALA tour features a date at SPAC on May 26, Buffalo at Rockin’ At The Knox on May 28, and two dates at Forest Hills Stadium on Sept. 20 and 21.

    Khruangbin tour

Khruangbin was formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson on drums. They take their influence from 1960s Thai funk with their name translating to “Engine Fly” in Thai. The group has toured across the world, with praise from the NY Times, Billboard, and more. The trio recently announced their fourth studio album A LA SALA, their first LP in four years out on April 5. From the get-go, their journey has been its own, ignoring pop expectations and relying on internal aspirations and visions. The building blocks for A LA SALA’s 12 songs were pieces found in Khruangbin’s creative past, parts of the band not lost, but not yet tapped into.

Over the last two years, Khruangbin has sold out shows at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and London’s Alexandra Palace, released five live LPs showcasing their stage prowess – featuring guests such as Toro y Moi, Men I Trust and Nubya Garcia, collaborated with Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré honoring his late father, Ali Farka Touré, with the album Ali, and released their second collaborative EP with Leon Bridges, the sultry, chart-topping Texas Moon.

The Ecuadorian-Swiss sibling duo Hermanos Gutiérrez will be supporting Khruangbin on a run of shows in April. Known for their psychedelic, world-building guitar music, they just released their newest single  “Blood Milk Moon”, a spacious and spectral tune that was hailed by WNYC as “night music that is somehow not dark” and named to UPROXX’s Best New Indie list. The single represents the group’s first new music since 2022’s El Bueno Y El Malo, their acclaimed and mythic debut for Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound.

The Khru Club artist presale for the North American tour starts on Tuesday, January 30 at 10 am local time, Spotify Fans’ first pre-sale is on January 31 @ 10 am local time, local/venue presale on Thursday, February 1 @ 10 am local time and regular on sale Friday, February 2 @ 10 am local time. • Jam Master Jay Murder Trial Nears As Jury Selection Begins For 2 Accused

The unsolved slaying of beloved hip hop legend Jam Master Jay is close to finding closure. After all, jury selection began on Monday at Brooklyn Federal Court in the murder trial of Jason Mizell, known worldwide as Jam Master Jay.

The influential Run-DMC DJ suffered a shot to the head outside of his studio in Jamaica, Queens in 2002

    Jam Master Jay mural

Over the years, numerous theories have circulated regarding Jay’s death. Ranging from issues with the infamous Supreme Team to a drug deal gone bad. However, it seems to be the latter as Karl Jordan Jr., 40, and Ronald Washington, 59, will be on trial for the October 30, 2002 shooting. Moreover, a 10-count indictment unsealed in October, 2020 revealed the motive behind the alleged murder to be 10 Kilograms of cocaine purchased by Jam Master Jay. With the plan being to distribute the drugs between Washington, Jordan Jr. and other co-conspirators.

Trouble arose over who would help distribute the narcotics. With Washington, known as “Lil D” and the Godson of Jam Master Jay and son to Run-DMC road manager “Big D” excluded from the plans. All in all, Jordan Jr., Washington and Jam Master Jay are from the same Hollis neighborhood, with Jordan Jr. being his neighbor. Equally important, another accused Jay Bryant, who reportedly left behind an article of clothing at the crime scene that contained his DNA, has been charged and will be tried in 2026.

Jam Master Jay in Hip Hop

Jam Master Jay’s death hit the hip hop world hard, as the genre was still recovering from the tragic murder of Tupac and Biggie Smalls. The Hollis, Queens’ native’s legacy is that of a community hero. Known for helping out those in need and for helping budding acts, playing an influential role in the early careers of Onyx and 50 Cent among others. Yet, his death felt as tough one of the genre’s true innovators came to an untimely end.

As a result there were celebratory tributes of his life throughout major award shows for the pioneering DJ. Meanwhile, fans held ceremonial vigils to honor the revolutionary DJ. When the case ran dry rap royalty put together reward money in hopes of finding closure. Opening statements in the trial against Jordan, Jr. and Washington will begin on January 29.
