What a wonderful world it is for Queens’ Louis Armstrong House Museum after winning the IMLS National Medal for Museums, the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant impact in their communities. The beloved monument was among the 10 Museum and Library Awards recipients, while the Louis Armstrong House Museum is the only honor recipient in New York State. Executive Director Regina Bain will accept the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in July.

In her role Brooklyn-based educator and artistRegina Bain look to preserve and further the legacy of America’s first Black popular music icon. Sharing, “This signifies recognition of our dedication to preserving the legacy of Louis Armstrong, a cultural icon whose impact transcends generations and borders. It also serves as a validation of our mission to preserve and interpret Armstrong’s house and grounds, collect and share archival materials that document Armstrong’s life and legacy, develop programs for the public that educate and inspire, and engage with contemporary artists to create performances and new works.” Moreover, in her role Bainfurther connects the LAHM’s family-friendly blend of arts and education with its surrounding community.
About the Louis Armstrong House Museum
Following Louis Armstrong’s passing in 1971. His wife, Lucille, continued to live in their home — on 107th Street in Corona, Queens — working to ensure that it became a National and New York Historic Landmark. After Lucille’s passing in 1983, she willed the home and its contents to the city of New York which designated the City University of New York, Queens College to shepherd the process. Despite a slow churn, the archives became public in the ’90’s, while the historic home opened for tours in 2003. In the time since the LAHM has become its own entity with official non-profit status.
Ahead of the release of the live albumLOUIS IN LONDON, the RIAA has announced that Louis Armstrong’s legendary track “What a Wonderful World” has been certified 5x Platinum, marking the original recording’s cumulative US sales of more than 5 million since its first release in 1967.
To coincide with this milestone moment, Verve Records is releasing the official performance video of the track, along with a live recording of his GRAMMY-Award-winning Hello, Dolly!

Recorded at the BBC in 1968, Louis Armstrong’s live rendition of “What a Wonderful World” marked his last great live performance. He had done the recording just weeks after the song hit #1 on the UK’s top charts, and afterward, it became the biggest song in the country for that year. Along with his biggest hit, Armstrong had recorded an entire concert in London with the BBC.
An iconic figure who transformed the world of music, Louis Armstrong continues to be honored by the Recording Academy and celebrated worldwide. Born in New Orleans, Louis Armstrong rose to prominence in the world of jazz and eventually moved to New York City. He quickly became an iconic figure at The Cotton Club, the most famous jazz club in Harlem. He lived the rest of his life in New York City and was buried in Flushing Cemetery in Queens.
The Louis Armstrong House Museum, located in Queens, holds hundreds of collected items that document his life, both in and outside the world of music. The upcoming album includes insider-exclusive liner notes by Armstrong’s biographer and Director of Research Collections for the Louis Armstrong House Museum, Ricky Riccardi.
The posthumous live album Louis In London contains 13 live performances recorded in London in 1968. In addition to the live recordings, the collection features six previously unreleased tracks, including “(Back Home Again) In Indiana,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “Ole Miss,” and “Blueberry Hill.” The album will be released on July 12, 2024.

The All Things Go music festival is making its NYC debut in 2024, adding to its already impressive legacy with an inaugural event at Forest Hills Stadium. Husbands kicked off the day on the IHG Stage with their indie rock sound characterized by distorted guitars and a dancey vibe. The crowd couldn’t help but boogie along, setting a lively tone for the rest of the day.
Elyanna, the Palestinian-Chilean singer-songwriter, captivated the audience with her soulful voice and unique blend of Middle Eastern and Latin influences. Her performance was a beautiful display of cultural fusion, offering a refreshing and authentic experience to festival-goers.

G Flip rocked the IHG Stage with their energetic performance. The highlight of the set was when Lauren Sanderson made a surprise appearance, joining G Flip on stage and sending the crowd into a frenzy. Their chemistry and stage presence created a memorable and electrifying atmosphere.

Baby Queen made her U.S. festival debut on the GoPuff Stage with a high-energy set that included “Quarter Life Crisis,” “I Can’t Get My Shit Together,” and “Buzzkill.” Her performance, marked by shredding on a pink guitar, was both raw and empowering. She hyped the crowd by asking, “Who’s getting drunk today? Well, this is a song about getting fucked up,” before launching into “Raw Thoughts.” Baby Queen’s message, “I want you all to remember you can be whatever you want to be,” resonated deeply with the audience.

Malcolm Todd brought a wave of nostalgia by opening with the iconic iCarly theme. His set featured chill vibes and impressive guitar solos, including a memorable performance of TLC’s “Waterfalls” on the catwalk. He expressed his excitement to open for Chappell Roan and wished everyone a “Happy Pride Month,” sharing his love for the community.

Also on the Gopuff stage, Kevin Abstract – known for his work with Brockhampton – delivered an introspective and engaging performance. His set was a mix of humor and heartfelt moments. He engaged with fans by reading signs, including quirky messages like “I’m severely constipated” and “gays only event.” His performance included solo tracks “Empty” and “Tennessee,” as well as Brockhampton favorites “BUZZCUT” and “STAR,” creating a dynamic and engaging set.

Chappell Roan’s performance was one of the most anticipated of the day. Fans chanted her name for five minutes before she took the stage, dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Her set began with “Femininomenon,” followed by “Naked in Manhattan” and “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl.” She said, “Today I am in drag of the biggest queen of all,” referring to her Statue of Liberty outfit.

Chappell used her costume to deliver a powerful message, quoting the inscription on the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” She elaborated, “That means freedom and trans rights, freedom and women’s rights, freedom for all people in oppressed territories,” giving meaning and symbolism beyond just being a “NY Icon.”
After a costume change to match her band’s taxi print, she debuted a new song, further thrilling the crowd. Before performing “Casual,” she explained her outfit change and showed off boots emblazoned with “1-800-ROAN” and checkered gloves. The set concluded with the fan-favorite “Pink Pony Club,” leaving the crowd ecstatic and chanting her name long after she left the stage.
Rapp’s setlist included “Poison Poison,” “Bruises,” and “Pretty Girls,” during which she prompted the crowd, “If you’re a pretty girl, put your hands up!” She engaged warmly with fans, including a heartfelt interaction with a fan named Sam: “What’s your name, baby?” she asked. “Well, Sam, I need you to hear me when I say you’re one of the prettiest girls out here.”
Introducing her band members, Rapp quipped, “Seldom will I celebrate a man, but today I will.” She wrapped up her performance with “Tummy Hurts” and “In the Kitchen,” dedicating the latter to theater kids and describing it as her “theatrical ballad.” She closed her set with an exuberant shout-out: “Can I get a round of applause for lesbians?” and did a funky little dance, leaving the crowd with smiles and a sense of unity.

Don Toliverâs set on the GoPuff Stage was a high-energy affair, featuring new and familiar hits. He debuted his new song “Tore Up,” which was met with enthusiastic approval from the crowd. Other highlights included performances of “Bus Stop,” “Smoke,” and “Attitude,” showcasing his versatility and charisma.

SZA closed out the festival on the GovBallNYC Stage with a breathtaking performance. Her setlist included fan favorites such as “Low,” “Normal Girl,” “Kiss Me More,” “Snooze,” “Kill Bill,” and “The Weekend.” Each song showcased her incredible vocal range and emotional depth. The audience was mesmerized by her soulful renditions and the raw emotion she brought to each performance.
Day 3 of Governors Ball 2024 was a testament to the power of live music to bring people together, celebrating diversity, creativity, and the sheer joy of performance. Each artist brought their unique energy to the stage, leaving fans with memories to cherish until next year’s festival.
With 2024 come and gone, we can start speculating about next year. The choice to continue at Flushing Meadows Park was a major success. The lushness of the park continues to prove to be the perfect venue for this festival; with large fields and thick trees providing shade to camping festival goers.
Governors Ball 2024 took off bright and early on Friday, June 7, launching their second year at the new festival site at Flushing Meadows Park. By the time “New York’s biggest party” opened the gates at 11:45am, music fans had been lined up for hours in anticipation of Friday’s biggest names.

On the GovballNYC Main stage, School of Rock Queens delivered an energetic and diverse cover-filled performance with a setlist that included “Beat It”, “Voulez-Vous”, “I’m Not Okay”, and “Locked Out of Heaven”. The show featured a diverse cast of characters, including a unique tambourine player, and showcased a myriad of covers led by different female vocalists for each song. Following them up, Minnesota rock band Durry delivered a high-energy performance that captivated the audience from start to finish. Their gritty guitar riffs and powerful vocals resonated through the venue, creating an electric atmosphere.

Early on over at the GoPuff stage, fans were treated to Long Island locals Arcy Drive. They brought their unique blend of rocky indie beach vibes to the stage with a standout performance. Featuring a pioneering female drummer, the band infused their set with a laid-back yet energetic atmosphere. They captivated the audience with a mix of their signature sound and the debut of a mysterious new song from their upcoming album. Right after their set, Qveen Herby dazzled the audience with her striking look and vibrant sound, seamlessly blending hip-hop and pop elements. Her sharp lyrics and dynamic stage presence had the crowd hooked from the first beat.

Following Qveen Herby, the atmosphere shifted once more as Yung Gravy took to the GoPuff stage, sporting a floral detailed suit that perfectly matched his new era. He delighted the crowd with “certified Gravy Classics” like “Betty (Get Money)” and “Welcome to Chili’s,” alongside fresh, unreleased tracks (including “Back On The Horse” and “Lone Ranger”) from his upcoming country-inspired album. During “Oops!!!,” he playfully switched the usual lyric “Tracy with the ass?” to “Tracy from Queens?” in a nod to Gov Ball’s enthusiastic audience, making the performance even more memorable.

Over at the IHG Stage, British pop girl group FLO delivered a performance reminiscent of The Cheetah Girls, complete with stunning vocal runs and harmonies that could go on for days. They brought their set to a triumphant close with their iconic track “Cardboard Box,” leaving the crowd buzzing for when Teezo Touchdown took over.

His electrified set kicked off with “Careful” that was both visually and musically captivating. With a floral-stylized microphone in hand, he delivered a powerful rendition of his hit “SUCKA!” and brought the metaphorical house down with a unique cover of Tyler, the Creator’s “RUNITUP.”

Back over on the GovBall NYC Stage, Ryan Beatty’s performance was a seamless blend of smooth modern rock and indie pop, showcasing his undeniable star potential. With a voice like silk, he captivated the audience, even using a theremin-like instrument to add a unique touch to his set. Sporting his signature headphones, he dedicated a song to his longtime fans, saying, “This one’s for the OGs, if you’ve lasted this long, bless you.” To quote the great Ryan Beatty himself: “We’re just getting started”.

As the day kept chugging along, the energy built throughout the festival grounds. Back on the GovBallNYC Main Stage, Dominic Fike rocks up with a performance full of memorable moments and musical highlights. He made his grand entrance with his sister Apple on his shoulders, marking his second Gov Ball appearance. Rocking cool shades and bleached eyebrows, Dominic declared, “NY I am inside you,” and complimented the city’s beauty, especially its women, which sent the crowd into a frenzy.

He reminisced about filming a music video in New York with Paul McCartney for “The Kiss of Venus” and kept the energy high with playful banter. He praised the crowd, saying, “this place rules, you guys are cool as hell,” before performing “Mona Lisa” from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, humorously pointing out his brother in the crowd, telling people to “throw sh*t at him”.

Dominic’s voice shone through as he introduced new tracks from his EP 14 Minutes, including “coast2coast” and “misses.” He shared a vulnerable moment about creating “misses” during a low point, expressing gratitude to his fans for boosting his self-confidence: “Thank you for instilling some self-confidence in me.”

As the sun set and the energy peaked, Post Malone absolutely brought down the house with his masterclass in blending classical elegance with modern rock energy. The set began with a captivating cello intro, featuring intricate strings that seamlessly transitioned into electrifying guitar shredding, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.
As soon as the opening string chords resonated, festival-goers sprinted from all corners of the grounds to witness the spectacle. The moment Post walked up, the night sky exploded with fireworks and intense pyro, amplifying the crowd’s excitement and creating a visually stunning backdrop for his electrifying set, a fitting end to Day 1 of Governors Ball 2024.

Capital One City Parks foundation SummerStage is back in 2024 with an exciting lineup of artists. Opening in Central Park, the SummerStage will host concerts across all five boroughs with a wide variety of acts.
Free concerts will feature exciting up and coming artists, along with rock legend Kim Gordon and acclaimed jazz group Sun Ra Arkestra. Benefit concerts include The Gaslight Anthem, Ethel Cain, and Trixie Mattel, to name a few.
SummerStage is one of NYC’s most beloved music series, offering New Yorkers up to 80 free and benefit shows a year. For 38 years, SummerStage has been a beloved festival celebrating New York’s cultural heritage. New York’s history of jazz will be highlighted, as well as celebrating the birth of Hip-Hop. Neighborhood parks hosting SummerStage include multiple locations in all five boroughs. Tompkins Square Park, Marcus Garvey Park, Crotona Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Flushing Meadows are among the many parks hosting SummerStage.
This season, SummerStage will showcase female artists pushing boundaries in the music industry, including Andra Day, Kim Gordon, Arooj Aftab, Sister Nancy, and Alcione. A spotlight will also be placed on multiple generations of jazz artists. Drummer Yussef Dayes will take the stage with vocalist and bassist Aneesa Strings.

This year’s festivals will continue to honor New York as the birthplace of Hip-Hop. In Bed-Stuy’s Herbert Von King Park, MIKE’s Young World festival will return with an exciting lineup of artists, including Earl Sweatshirt. Hip-Hop legends The Pharcyde, MC Ghostface Killah, and Slick Rick are featured in this season’s exciting lineup.

On June 28, 2024 at 8 PM, Flushing Town Hall will present The Queens Jazz Orchestra – A Concert for “Tootie” Heath. The event pays tribute to the late jazz luminary, Albert “Tootie” Heath, who passed away last April 3, just shy of 90 years-old.
Albert “Tootie” Heath was the last living Heath Brother, America’s most prominent jazz siblings who were all recipients of the title NEA Jazz Master, the nation’s highest honor in jazz. Tootie was the drummer with drummer of his family band and later with the Modern Jazz Quartet. He performed with some of the most prolific and best-known musicians in jazz, starting with Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane. Tootie was the drummer for Nina Simone’s first album, Little Girl Blue, and also played with virtuosos such as J.J. Johnson, Herbie Hancock, Benny Golson, Dexter Gordon, Art Farmer, Cannonball Adderley, Ethan Iverson, and Wes Montgomery.
In 2018, Tootie received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Jazz Foundation of America for his exceptional musical career and work as an educator. Beyond performing, he dedicated his life to clinics, workshops. For over 30 years, he was an instructor at the Stanford Jazz Workshop summer camps and played at colleges and universities nationwide.
Founded in 2008, Queens Jazz Orchestra (QJO) is a 17-piece orchestra dedicated to preserving the heritage of jazz in Queens and nurturing the next generations of great jazz musicians. It is a project of Flushing Town Hall and was the brainchild of Tootie’s brother, Jimmy Heath, and Flushing Town Hall’s Jazz Producer, Clyde Bullard. Tootie and his brothers performed at the Town Hall several times and will be honored “with him in mind and with love” in the upcoming concert and pre-show event to “share favorite memories of Tootie and his music,” says Bullard.
The QJO will perform at Flushing Town Hall onFriday, June 28 at 8 PM ET. The free, pre-concert reception will be open for concert ticket holders at 7 PM.

Albany
May 31, 5:00 PM: Start Pride on the right foot with the Waterworks Pub’s Pride Kick-Off block party and BBQ. Admission is free!
June 1, 9:00 PM: Pay homage to queer art with ICONS: A Pride Variety Show and Party at Lark Hall. The celebration begins with a pre-show party from 9-11, where there will be giveaways and teaser performances. The main show, ICONS- The Variety Show, will feature drag queens Brita Filter, Lagoona Bloo, Amanda Blair, and many more. The fun does not stop after the show. An after party with DJ Synes will begin at midnight and continue until 2 AM. Tickets are available here.
June 9, 11:30 AM: Capital Pride Parade & Festival will take place in Washington Park. Registration can be found at the following link, and proceeds go to the Pride Center of the Capital Region’s programming advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.
Troy
June 15, 2:00-6:00 PM: Join Collar City Pride for their picnic in Troy’s Prospect Park. The barbecue will feature vegan and non-vegan options, snacks, and beverages. There is a suggested donation on a sliding scale, and everyone is invited to bring lawn games, speakers, and frisbees.
July 14: The pride celebration continues into July, with performances by Typhoid Mary and DJ Lovely Candela. More queer artists and drag performers are to be announced. Good Karma Studios will also be performing an acrobatic act. There will be a family section with balloon animals and a drag story hour. There will also be over 40 vendors, most of whom are from Rensselaer County and LGBTQ+ owned and operated. Schenectady
June 1, 10:00 AM: The Dynasty will introduce their first ever wrestling event for this year’s pride celebration. “Sounds Gay, I’m In” will be held at Gateway Park. The festival will begin at 10:00 AM, and the wrestling will begin at 6:00 PM. All ages are welcome, and more information is available at the following link.
Saratoga Springs
May 30, 2:45: Join the Ballston Spa High School in the raising of the pride flag.
June 27, 6:00 PM: LGBTQ parents and children are invited to Saratoga Arts’ “POP” Gathering (parents of pride). The event will feature arts, crafts, and community building activities for the whole family. More information can be found here. Saratoga Arts hosts the event monthly, so dates will be available all year!
July 11, 6:30 PM: Join Saratoga Pride members for their Cornhole League. The informal, weekly drop-in league costs $15 a ticket, which offers guests a 20% discount on all food and drinks. Tournaments will be held at Saratoga Winery, and guests are encouraged to support the local restaurant. There will be more sessions every Thursday throughout the summer, with the tournament finals on August 29.
June 23, 2:00 PM: Saratoga’s Pride festival will return to High Rock Park this year, with an after party to follow. The family friendly event will feature live music, family activities, and community groups. Food and ice cream will also be available for purchase on site.
Lake George
Lake George Pride Festival, ages 16+ (under 16 admitted with parent/guardian only), featuring DJs from the community representing, vendor village, disc golf, frisbee golf, lawn games, walking trails, photo areas, cash bar and more! $20 to enter, brought to you in partnership by Warren County and The Lake George Area and powered by Rocavaka and Goldstein Auto Group.
Binghamton
June 20, 6:00 PM: Binghamton Pride Coalition will host a clothing swap from June 3-10. Participants are asked to donate gently used, clean clothes and accessories at Butterfields. On June 20, the clothes will be organized and displayed for people to choose. There is a suggested donation of $10, which will be donated to Identity LGBTQ+ Youth Center in Binghamton. June 8, 12:00 PM: Pride Palooza will return this year to Otsiningo Park. Guests are invited to bring their own picnic blankets and lunches to enjoy live music and entertainment. June 21, 5:00 PM: Join Southern Tier Aids Program (STAP) in celebrating their 40 year anniversary. STAP will hold a gala at the Binghamton DoubleTree, and admission costs $50. Tickets are available at the following link. STAP will honor the dedication of Drew and Gertrude Noden, whose support of their AIDS Ride for Life fundraiser has been instrumental. June 1, 2:00 PM: Otsego Pride Alliance will host their annual Pridefest. The festival will be held on Main Street in Oneonta. Parade line up begins at 1:00 PM, and the route will begin at 27 Market St to Elm St. Guests are asked to bring a chair, water, cash to tip performers and flags. June 7, 4:00 PM: Join Southern Finger Lakes Pride for their “Twas the Night Before Pride” event. There will be an official raising of the pride flag at 6:00 PM, and several activities throughout the evening. June 28, 7:30 PM: City Winery at Pier 57 will host a documentary concert exploring the history of the Stonewall Uprising. Proceeds from ticket sales go to The Stonewall Community Foundation, which works towards liberation for all LGBTQ+ people. July 1-July 7: Commemorate the Fire Island Invasion of 1976 by recreating the event with the New York LGBT community. A longtime landmark in LGBTQ+ history, Fire Island has served as a safe haven for members of the community to express themselves freely. In 1976, after a restaurant in Fire Island Pines denied entry to a visitor in drag, the visitor and their friends stormed into the Pines dressed in drag. Summer Soundsystem Series – Coney Island Reggae On The Boardwalk and Reggae Under The Bridge – returns on June 9, July 7, August 4, and August 31st in Brooklyn and Queens.
The first event at K Bridge Park on June 9 from 2-7 p.m. will feature DJ Puma from Brooklyn’s famed LP International soundsystem, DJ Misbehavior, DJ Anthony, African Violet Roots, Chanter The Timeless Sound, and Carter Van Pelt. The beloved free outdoor series features an array of reggae vinyl specialist DJs from Brooklyn, New York City, and beyond.
WKCR DJ Carter Van Pelt founded the event in June 2010, to play classic reggae at an accessible location (the Coney Island Boardwalk) to a broad audience. “It caught on from the very beginning, and I feel proud of what it’s become and how the community has embraced it, including the support and endorsements of the Brooklyn Arts Council and Queens BP Donovan Richards. Over the last dozen years, there has been a growing interest in Jamaican soundsystem culture globally… Thanks to social media, people know about the event around the world and have travelled from Japan, Australia, Europe, and Jamaica to attend.”
In 2021, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards brought the event to the Rockaway Beach Amphitheater as part of his Queens -Live! series, where it returns again this year on Saturday, August 31st for Labor Day Weekend. “Reggae and Caribbean culture as a whole are integral parts of the Southeast Queens and Rockaway communities. I can’t wait to celebrate these roots when Reggae On The Boardwalk returns to Rockaway Beach this summer for an incredible day of music,” said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr.
The events have benefited from the participation of reggae and soundsystem luminaries, including Jamaican producers King Jammy and Jack Scorpio, singers Luciano, Johnny Osbourne, and Carlton Livingston, and emcees Ranking Joe, Sassafrass, Sister Carol, and Screechy Dan, among others. Giants in the soundclash world have been regular participants, including selectors Puma from LP International, Downbeat The Ruler, Federation Sound, and Sir Tommy. The events are also multi-cultural and multi-generational, featuring a core of Jamaican/Caribbean selectors and others passionate about the music culture, both men and women, ranging from teenagers to octogenarians. The large, Jamaican style soundsystem for the events at K Bridge Park are provided by Chanter The Timeless Sound of Brooklyn.

Queens Rising is back for its third year of the Multidisciplinary Arts Festival with the Queens Scene series starting Saturday, June 1st.
Queens Rising is a collective celebration honoring the culture and diversity of the borough. Their mission is to spread awareness of Queens’ rich history in the arts and contributions to New York City art. They work with many organizations and establishments to bring these celebrations to life. Queens Scene is one of the many programs they offer to exemplify pride for their community.
Additionally, the venues taking part in the festival have chosen artists all of whom they feel represent the creative and cultural significance of Queens. Each performer was chosen from an open call in the spring and will have the opportunity to grow their platforms.
