With NPR Music comparing him to the legendary Daft Punk, it’s understandable why excitement for this release is high. The six tracks on the EP offer a different window into Bad Tuner‘s world. There is something for all fans of electronic music, ranging from glitchy hyper-pop flares to gritty and booming 90s Big Beat sounds, with samples from all over the world.

“Maybe so,” the second track, offers us a preview of Bad Tuner’s impressive abilities. The track is an instant hit on the dance floor thanks to its breakbeat drums, rhythmic piano riff, repeating bell lead, and a sampled Soukous Congolese vocal. Bad Tuner says, “I wanted a song that would evolve into absolute chaos towards the end. I tried a few different arrangements of the song, landing on this one.”

Bad Tuner is no stranger to success, having gained recognition from notable figures in the industry such as Pete Tong and making waves on BBCRadio1. With sold-out performances and tours with artists like Polo & Pan and TOKiMONSTA, he has earned his spot in the electronic music industry.

Keep an eye out for April 5 and preorder “look at me but through me.” In the meantime, crank “maybe so” and learn more about the world of Bad Tuner.

  • Brooklyn Alt-Rockers Castle Black Release Single “Heart Can’t Feel”

Brooklyn-based alternative/post-punk group Castle Black recently released their latest single titled, “Heart Can’t Feel.” The single is off of the band’s upcoming album, The Highway at Night.

    castle black "Heart Can't Feel"

Castle Black is an ever-evolving thunderstorm of sound on a backdrop of captivating hooks and edgy soundscapes. Castle Black draws elements from punk, post-punk, grunge, alternative and new-wave music. The band sees the release of their first full length album, The Highway at Night in June.

The single, “Heart Can’t Feel” is the second released single off the album. The group has released six EPs since 2015. Castle Black hopes to reach new heights with the release of their first full-length album.

“Heart Can’t Feel” begins with captivating chords, vocal tones, and immediate action. The song has strong influence from a band like Hole. The fierceness of the vocals, the upbeat yet grungy sound, and the song structure are very reminiscent of Hole and other alternative bands from that era.

The riffs throughout the song catch the listener right away and refuse to stay static. The track is certainly very post-punk in its vocals, grunge in its tone, alternative in its pace and instruments, with a bit of a new-wave aura to it. Castle Black does an excellent job here of crafting a catchy, punchy, and fun piece of music.

  • Chyna Streetz Covers Creative Ground [NYC & Beyond]

Chyna Streetz loves the process. Through various life experiences she continues to learn and grow. Money comes and money goes but lost time on Earth could never be earned back. Abundantly, the hours in the studio and on tour continue to pay dividends for this NYC-based emcee.

    Chyna Streetz

Her latest body of work, From Hell to Chanel showcases just how far she has come since her first project in 2018. After experimenting with different sounds – Chyna now sets her sights on accomplishing feats according to her own timetable.

“Even if the wounds heal, the scars left still show.”

-Judas Kiss by Chyna Streetz & Tiona Deniece

Less worried about what others see fit for her – this artist formerly known as Chy the Empress embodies her lane in the underground East Coast hip-hop scene. Amazingly, strides from the likes of Westside Gunn and Rome Streetz have turned underground hip-hop damn-near mainstream. Label it however you wish – real rap is back on the map and Chyna Streetz pushes her pen to the forefront.

With conceptual storytelling and divine lyricism – everyone better recognize what Chyna Streetz means to hip-hop. From Hell to Chanel (entirely produced by 183rd( illuminates the struggles this woman went through. The determination to prove herself shines very brightly on this tape.

On Bernadine’s Rage she refers to herself as a, “Goddess in the likeness.” In the very next line she proclaims she is, “Tight she had to write this.” Therefore, these two lines together make for an excellent set of opening lines.

Right from the beginning of Bernadine’s Rage – she lets us know that she is a supreme being as those who have utmost confidence are recognized sooner than those who only half-step their way to the goal. Next, being ‘tight’ means she might have been upset she had to write this which portrays growth and shows that she will take any steps necessary to become the best version of herself.

    Chyna Streetz

    New York is a Nationality

All credit due to the Empress and her efforts – the moment she transformed into Chyna Streetz drove her to become a different animal within the same beast. Spending time with her man Rome Streetz has propelled her lyricism, uplifted her stage presence and given her the bravery to use her past as a turning point for the future.

When Chyna was 17 she went away for robbery in the first degree. She served roughly six years altogether between Bayview Correctional Center and the ‘Staying Out Program’ in Manhattan. Hurricane Sandy ravaged much of Bayview Correctional Center and it is now being renovated into affordable housing.

“Rolled the dice on life and found out time cannot be bought.”

    -Judas Kiss

Chyna preaches to live and maintain in the ways that work for you. Do not let outside influence or external gratification dictate the path you know you must walk. Evidently, within the core of every soul – you will find what direction you must choose. Now, take the steps to walk the road less traveled en route to fulfillment of your destiny.

Some ways in which Chyna found self-realization comes from internal strength and stepping outside of her comfort zone. Nonetheless, building confidence from within and surrounding herself with truly talented people have led her to become a difference-maker within the game.

  • Grand Reopening: Brooklyn Paramount Theater Shines Again with Damian and Stephen Marley

After years of eager anticipation, the historic Brooklyn Paramount Theater reopened its doors to music enthusiasts on Wednesday, March 27, with a spectacular concert featuring reggae icons Damian and Stephen Marley. A Brief History of the Brooklyn Paramount Theater

Originally opened in 1928, the Brooklyn Paramount Theater stood as a beacon of entertainment in the heart of New York City. With its stunning art deco architecture and state-of-the-art facilities, the theater quickly became a beloved landmark, hosting a plethora of performances ranging from live music acts to film screenings.

Like many historic theaters, the Brooklyn Paramount faced periods of decline and neglect over the years. By the late 1960s, it had ceased operations as a theater and was repurposed for various other uses, including a disco club and a basketball arena. Despite efforts to revive it, the theater remained largely dormant for decades, with its grandeur fading into memory.

  • Maxwell Announces The Serenade North American Tour Stopping in Brooklyn This Fall

Award-winning artist Maxwell has announced The Serenade North American tour which will make a stop at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on September 25, and at Prudential Center in Newark, on October 6

    maxwell

Over the course of more than 20 years, Maxwell has skillfully captured the attention of music enthusiasts by releasing five studio albums that were all well-received as gems in their own right. When the soul singer released Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite, his highly regarded Columbia-debut in April 1996, it completely changed the genre of soul music. The singer-songwriter and record producer Maxwell, will be joined by special guest two-time Grammy winner and R&B powerhouse Jazmine Sullivan and a rising singer-songwriter October London. Maxwell’s return to the road, with the Serenade Tour marks a reunion with Jazmine Sullivan, who joined him on his Maxwell 08 Tour.

Jazmine Sullivan’s 2008 debut album Fearless, debuted at number one on Billboard’s top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart and was nominated for seven Grammy awards, including Best R&B Album and Best New Artist. Sullivan’s natural talent to write songs that beautifully convey the experiences of so many women -especially Black women, was evident in her debut single, “Need U Bad.” Sullivan has a poetic vulnerability that gives many listeners the impression that she has been studying their journals.

Also joining the Serenade North American tour is October London, Indiana-based rising star in the music industry. London is a  singer-songwriter and producer who just finished his first US tour. His engaging album The Rebirth of Marvin honors the legendary Marvin Gaye, and the catchy track “Back to Your Place” shot to the top of the R&B radio charts and went on to dominate charts across the country, spending an incredible two weeks at the top of the iTunes R&B Soul Charts. After obtaining a contract with the legendary Snoop Dogg in 2016, October London is still breaking new ground in modern music, mesmerizing audiences with his extraordinary skill and limitless imagination.

  • Bad Tuner Releases New House Single “repeat to fade”

Brooklyn-based DJ Bad Tuner has shared a new rhythmic single “repeat to fade” ahead of his EP Look At Me But Through Me, set to release on April 5.

With the single release and an EP announcement, Bad Tuner has also shared that he will perform a string of live shows this spring with a live show at the Elsewhere Hall in NYC on April 19. This will be Tuner’s return to the Brooklyn’s Elsewhere rooftop as he sold out the venue in May of last year.

His new single “repeat to fade” is also accompanied with a music video directed by a Baltimore-based cinematographer Patrick Elmore. Tuner’s”repeat to fade” is an anthemic house song, with immense bass and a brutally rhythmic percussion presence that moves in sync with the seductive vocals screamed back by high-pitched harmonies. The house single is a vibrant party song ideal for those who dare to be courageous on the dance floor, with vocals that have an alien air to them, while the percussion acts as an anchor to Earth.

Tuner shows an innate sense of depth and a distinctive style all his own in his new EP Look At Me But Through Me. The six-track EP incorporates unique twists on modern conceptions of UK garage, the sleek and deceptively syncopated productions of the lo-fi house scene, and glitchy hyperpop flourishes. Each of the six tracks embrace entirely eclectic soundscapes, becoming a portal into their individual, wondrous worlds. Look At Me But Through Me EP is set to release on April 5 via Foreign Family Collective / Ninja Tune.

Tuner’s new single “repeat to fade” is available to stream everywhere. Tickets and more information for the live dates and the artist can be found here

  • Slow Fiction Releases Enticing New Single “Monday”

Multi-faceted  alt rock band Slow Fiction have released their enticing new single “Monday” ahead of the band’s live performance at No Fun venue in Troy on March 27

Brooklyn based band Slow Fiction consists of five members that bring together amazing performances, distinctive songwriting and innovative vocals delivered by their lead vocalist Julia Vassallo. Their new single “Monday” is a first single from the band’s upcoming EP record Crush set to be released on May 24 via So Young Records.

Emerging within a music community shattered by lockdowns, Slow Fiction was woven together from a tapestry of friendships from hometowns and college connections. As boundaries disappeared and audiences expanded, the band became closer, utilizing the changes to play around with their content and achieve ever-greater and more powerful heights.

Inspired by the raw, sweeping fuzz of bands like Sonic Youth and The Jesus and Mary Chain, the finished composition is a sonically explosive piece of work. A familiar guitar sound from the 2000s meets cutting edge modern angst to produce a sound that is both nostalgic and enticing. The band was liberated as their confidence increased through their live performances, and they used all they had learned to start working on “a lot more cohesive and bigger sounding” project.

Slow Fiction is fast making a name for themselves as one of the most captivating and intriguing live performers coming out of New York’s thriving scene at the moment. Their new EP goes over and above to demonstrate their potential by combining nostalgic overtones with unquestionably heavy emotional content and stark realities. The band is slowly becoming one of the most intriguing artists to come out of the current music scene because of their skillful blending of personal suffering with a wide range of musical inspirations and dreamy, euphoric tones.

Following the announcement of their new EP Crush, and the release their new single “Monday” which was accompanied by a visualizer that features a footage taken out the window of a NYC subway, the band has also announce a slew of upcoming tour dates, including a stint at SXSW and shows supporting Hinds and Sprints.
