  • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2024 Nominees

    The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (RRHOF) has recently announced the 2024 list of potential inductees to the program. The list includes several notable New York artists including Mary J. Blige, Eric B. & Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, Lenny Kravitz and more.

    The 2024 ceremony will once again stream live on Disney+ and will be available on Hulu the next day. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

    Ten out of 15 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time. This includes Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne and Sade.

    New York is greatly represented this year, with six of the 15 nominees hailing from the Empire State. Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Foreigner, Lenny Kravitz, Eric B. & Rakim and A Tribe Called Quest all native to New York.

    Inductees will be announced in late April. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 Induction Ceremony will take place in Cleveland this fall with date and on-sale information to be announced. 

    90s hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest have been nominated a few times for the RRHOF. This year, the jazzy, vintage-sound, of A Tribe Called Quest’s true and influential music will be heard and considered by the panel once more.

    Along with Tribe, fellow New York hip-hop artists Eric B. & Rakim will be considered for induction. Eric B. and Rakim are widely regarded as one of, if not the most influential rap duos to ever grace the genre. Rakim has become an icon for being the father of 90s rap and its many sounds.

    70s and 80s rock band Foreigner is on the ballot, and their induction is one that many rock fans have waited for. Fellow rocker Lenny Kravitz looks to secure a place in the Hall of Fame, boasting a large and diverse catalogue. Lenny Kravitz is not just rock, he is soul, and he is inspiration.

    This year’s nominations are packed with extraordinary talent, and their impacts are all unique and important. This multi-genre line up is certainly going to be neck and neck with votes for induction.

  • Pearl Jam Announce New Album ‘Dark Matter’ and Tour with Two Dates at MSG

    Pearl Jam has announced the release of the 12th studio album Dark Matter, coming on April 19, 2024, and the launch of a 35-date worldwide tour this May. The band will go to Madison Square Garden on September 3 and September 4, 2024.

    Pearl Jam is an alternative rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The band’s lineup consists of bassist Jeff Ament, rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard, lead guitarist Mike McCready, lead singer/guitarist Eddie Vedder, and drummer Matt Cameron. With thirty-plus years of live performances, twelve studio albums, and hundreds of official live concert bootleg releases later, Pearl Jam continues to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful. The band has sold over 85 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

    Since the earliest days, they have used their platform to elevate people and causes that often go unnoticed. Much of the band’s philanthropic work is accomplished through its Vitalogy Foundation which to date has raised more than $50 million for organizations supporting issues such as abortion access, climate change, homelessness, and drawing attention to the fight against diseases such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis and epidermolysis bullosa (EB). In addition to the money Vitalogy donates, the band also donates signed instruments, posters, and merchandise to organizations to use for their fundraising purposes.

    In 2023, the band went to La Studios in Malibu where they simply plugged in and played with producer Andrew Watt. The musicians faced one another in the same space and communicated sonically at the highest level, producing Dark Matter in just three weeks. As a result, the album channels the shared spirit of a group of lifelong creative confidants and brothers in one room playing as if their very lives depended on it.

    I’m getting chills, because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.

    The LOVE ROCKS NYC 2024 benefit concert for God’s Love We Deliver has announced its star-studded lineup – happening live from the historic Beacon Theatre on Thursday, March 7.

    LOVE ROCKS NYC launched in 2017, and has since raised more than $30 million to date and helped fund more than three million meals for New Yorkers in need. The benefit concert highlights God’s Love We Deliver’s mission of providing meals and nutrition counseling for people living with severe illness in the New York Metropolitan area. The not-for-profit was founded in 1985 as a response to the AIDS pandemic, now serving people living with more than 200 different diagnoses, home-delivering more than four million medically tailored meals to more than 14,700 individuals last year.

    The concert is executive produced by iconic international fashion designer John Varvatos, NYC Douglas Elliman real estate broker and prominent concert producer Greg Williamson, and esteemed concert/events producer Nicole Rechter and is hosted by Conan O’Brien, Tracy Morgan, and Jim Gaffigan.

    For the eighth anniversary, the LOVE ROCKS NYC 2024 all-star lineup, led by Music Director and Band Leader Will Lee (The CBS Orchestra), will feature The Black Keys, Hozier, Nile Rodgers, Tom Morello, Don Felder, Bettye Lavette, Joss Stone, Allison Russell, Emily King, Marcus King, Lucius, Larkin Poe, Trombone Shorty, Luke Spiller (The Struts), Quinn Sullivan, Bernie Williams and more announced soon.

  • Stevie Nicks Adds Albany Date to 2024 Tour

    Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks has expanded her wildly successful 2023 tour with 13 additional performances added. The Live In Concert tour will make stops in New York State on Feb. 14 at the UBS Arena and June 12 at MVP Arena.

  • Goose Announce new Drummer, “Ted Tapes 2024,” Headline Tour Stopping at CMAC and Forest Hills

    It is an exciting day to be a Goose fan as the rock quintet has announced they are bringing new drummer Cotter Ellis to the group, releasing Ted Tapes 2024, an album comprised of instrumental improvisations captured during Ellis’s auditions on drums. And if that wasn’t enough, the group kicks off their new headliner tour this summer, coming to CMAC on June 15 and Forest Hills Stadium on June 29.

    Goose released their debut album in 2016 and quickly took flight, playing countless shows, and amassing a cult-like following. Known for their unique brand of irresistible songcraft, fluid musicianship, and spirited improvisational performance, the quintet’s 2022 critically acclaimed record Dripfield debuted at #2 on Billboard’s “Top New Artist Albums” chart.

    They have spent much of the past decade on a seemingly infinite tour schedule that includes sold-out headline shows at renowned venues such as Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Nashville, TN’s Ryman Auditorium, and New York City’s hallowed Radio City Music Hall; a sold-out co-headline run alongside Trey Anastasio Band; a sold-out EU/UK headline tour, and show-stealing appearances at such festivals as Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Electric Forest, and Dead & Company’s Playing In The Sand in Riviera Cancun, MX. Recent highlights include a sold-out, five-night run at the historic Capitol Theater and 2023’s 10th annual Goosemas holiday celebration at Hampton, VA’s famed Hampton Coliseum.

    “I first saw Cotter play with his band Swimmer at Nectar’s some years ago,” says Rick Mitarotonda. “I was sitting solo at one of the bar tables right in front of the stage with the PA ripping. The set was awesome, they’re all fantastic players and I was taken with the buoyant energy and how much fun they were having. Something had me glued to the drums though. His pocket and feel were gripping. He really told a story with his playing that night. It was an experience that always stuck with me.”

    These Ted Tapes tracks are improvisational moments from the first few sessions with Cotter, recorded solely for the purpose of reference, not intended for any kind of release. The instruments and microphones were rigged up quickly, and the playing was raw and free from any expectations. The first track, “Leo,” is the opening pick up jam from the first session, the first notes ever played together. There were some consistent threads we all felt in the room throughout these early sessions; ease of communication, freely flowing ideas, and a feeling of effortlessness moving through different zones. We experienced a patience that allowed all of our personalities to come out and energy to well up in new ways. It feels like a door just beginning to open. We couldn’t be more stoked for what’s to come.

  • Montauk’s Annie Trezza Performs in Manhattan at Arlene’s Grocery

    On February 2, Annie Trezza provided the tunes and ensued the grooves at Arlene’s Grocery, a Lower East Side treasure. From the most eastern point of New York State, Annie and her band descended into the city from Montauk, bringing their east coast surf-rock demeanor with them in blue suitcases, fur coats, and their soulful sound.

    Bass rattled the vintage infrastructure of Arlene’s as Annie prepped her stage. She twirled around her staple acoustic and a sky blue electric-guitar perched behind the microphone, sipping a Tecate and dancing to the pre-show tunes. Huddled on stage was the Arlene’s grocery drum set, a bass guitar, and a pedal set that her bandmates fiddled with. Friends and family members of the band milled about the tight-spaced room, and curious New Yorkers in search of live music filed down the stairs into the pit. 

    Annie and her whole crew made their way onto stage. “Hey everyone! We track from the east end, AKA Montauk – the coolest place on Earth!” She wore a memorable coat with fur trimmed cuffs, velvet cowboy boots, bell bottoms, and a cowboy hat. Her style matched her sound, as she strummed her band into play. 

    After her first couple of songs, Annie Trezza introduced her band: Jack Marshall on the steel guitar, Andrew Winthrop on the drums, and Kevin L. on the bass. Their stage presence was commanded by Annie’s charisma, and they gelled together seamlessly. After the song “Ave. A,” Annie was excited to play her song “Summer//Winter,” which can be heard in the neo-western thriller “The Last Victim” on Hulu.

    With drinkable influence from iconic artists like The Doors and Fleetwood Mac, and more modern-scale groups like Houndmouth or The Growlers, Trezza has combined classic riffs and the jam-band groove with her own poetry and life-style flair. 

    Each song threaded a narrative with unique lyrics. In the span of the mere hour long set, we were pulled from New York City, to Montauk, to Florida, to the French countryside. With strong influences from the ocean, surfing, relationships, and the seasons changing, Trezza holds an earthy and empathetic discography.

    Their set deserved more time, for the storytelling between songs had to be nipped in order for Annie to perform the entirety of her setlist. Trezza acknowledged the time passing, “ All of these songs have a story, and I do like to ramble…” The crowd replied, “Ramble on!” The collective reference to Led Zeppelin couldn’t be missed. 

    A story that seemed to resonate with the audience was that behind her song “French Countryside.” Sleeping in the room next door to the person you’re in love with. The song had a tremendous build that mirrored the feeling of emotional climax – when feelings can no longer be contained and the body becomes an emotional well.

    The bridge warranted dancing and Annie’s pal Kate grooved front and center. She bounced around the rim of the stage, and her energy encouraged others to move their feet. Annie invited the audience to fill in the dance floor. Bodies pushed towards the stage and the motion met the music.

    “Alright, that was the acoustic set. We’re gonna go surfing again!” Annie swapped her acoustic guitar for her electirc as she geared up for the last couple of surf-inspired songs “Surf Crush,” and “Pitted.” “This song is about surfing, the greatest thing in the world! We’re in New York City, let’s get pitted!”

    “Pitted” was the final song of the evening, and it ended the night on a high note. Once the show concluded, Annie hung around the Arlene’s chatting with her audience. Her artistry as well as her connective nature was genuine.

    MMATA’s “Say it To My Face Tour” stop at Irving Plaza on January 25 was an exhilarating celebration of punk, diversity, and unapologetic self-expression. The night kicked off with stellar performances by Elliot Lee, John Hardie, and Honey Revenge, setting the stage for a high-octane headlining act.

    As MMATA took the stage, the atmosphere crackled with excitement. A fan in the front row held a sign that declared “Ada is my everything,” a testament to the profound connection the band fosters with their supporters. The show became a participatory experience when Edith let the crowd choose between two songs, playfully warning them about the sad backstory of “A Few Tomorrows” before launching into it, resulting in playful banter between the band and their adoring audience.

    Meet Me @ The Altar used their platform for more than music, incorporating activism into the show with the presence of Headcount volunteers promoting voter registration. Crowdsurfing added a final touch of chaos to the night, encapsulating the raw, unfiltered spirit of punk.

  • Train and REO Speedwagon to Co-Headline 5 Dates in NYS

    Train and REO Speedwagon have announced they will be co-headlining for a two-month long tour across the US. The two acts will hit the road this July for the Summer Road Trip 2024 Tour. The coming together of two musical generations in 44 cities begins this July and wraps up in September. The tour will see five stops in NY – Lewiston, Saratoga Springs, Bethel, Wantagh, and Syracuse, all in July.

    Train and REO Speedwagon have previously combined sounds in the past for various fundraising shows across the country, including Rock the House – a fundraising music event for families of ill children. Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon has also been a part of Acoustic-4-a-cure, a benefit show to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer.

    Train’s Pop-Rock sound combined with REO Speedwagon’s Classic Rock adds an element of generational layering to the show, something a diverse array of fans can enjoy. Joining the acts on tour is special guest, Yacht Rock Revue, who will be playing classic soft/groove rock hits from artists like Hall & Oates, Steely Dan, Toto and more.

    The tour will kick off Monday, July 8 in Wisconsin, and make its first stop in NY on July 19 at Artpark in Lewiston. This show will unfortunately not include REO Speedwagon but is the only show in NY with this exception. The acts will then stop at SPAC in Saratoga Springs on July 23. They will stop at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel July 24 and Jones Beach Amphitheater in Wantagh July 27. Lastly for NY, the tour will stop at Empower FCU Amphitheater in Syracuse on July 31.

    Fans can gain first access to the artist presales beginning on Wednesday, January 31 at 10 am until Thursday, February 1 at 10 pm. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on-sale beginning on Friday, February 2 at 10 am at SaveMeSanFrancisco.com and REOSpeedwagon.com.
