  • Brooklyn Trio Gooseberry Releases Single “Dying To Meet You”

Brooklyn-based alt-rock band, Gooseberry, released their brand new song “Dying To Meet You” on Friday, June 14. This release is the second single off their forthcoming debut album All My Friends Are Cattle coming out Sept. 6.

"Dying To Meet You" by Gooseberry

The musical team of singer and guitarist, Asa Daniels, drummer Evin Rossington, and bassist Will Hammond return to releasing music with two EPs and a multitude of singles under their belt. Since entering the scene in 2019, the band continues to focus on writing new music and playing shows. Constantly expanding their audience in venues like Baby’s All Right and Knitting Factory, Gooseberry undoubtedly stays true to themselves and their music reflects that.

Their new song, “Dying To Meet You,” carries that ethos wholeheartedly. As Daniels put it, “Ultimately, none of us knows much about either, and so if anything, this song is about sneering at those who think they’ve got it figured out.” The song begins slowly until it escalates into the classic bold Gooseberry sound. The accompanying music video tells the story and mirrors the music’s transition through its visuals.

The song, along with their previous single “Kikiyon,” gives fans a preview of their upcoming album All My Friends Are Cattle. Tracked over three months, the band had the help of Grammy-winning engineers Colin Bryson, Phil Joly, and Jennica Best who have worked with the likes of Zach Bryan, Lana Del Rey, and Colatura respectively.

There’s something about this tune that is eerie, like something beyond explanation is peering over your shoulder waiting for you to turn your head around. For the breakdowns in this song, our producer (Colin Bryson) brought a tiny handheld distortion mic into the studio for me to scream into. And I screamed my head off. That was cathartic. Hopefully this song brings our fans catharsis. Or a sore throat.

    charley orlando slipstream

Over the last 30 years, Charley Orlando has developed an impressive reputation as a musician. With an impressive 28 Grammy Ballot nominations, 18 releases, and over 30 years of touring, he has cemented his place as an influential and respected musician in the industry. His music is a unique blend of blues, folk, and rock, with heartfelt lyrics that resonate with audiences around the world.

Orlando’s latest single, “Slipstream,” is the second of a series of singles that he plans to release over the next year. Much like his last single, “California,” Slipstream embodies the best elements of music from the late 60s and early 70s. The easy-going vibes set by the instrumental, along with masterful lyrics that display sensitivity and vulnerability, are reminiscent of artists like Bob Dylan, Seals and Crofts, Steely Dan, and more. The instrumentals offer a perfect blend of blues and rock that makes the single stand out as an easy listening tool. Despite its ongoing themes of anxiety, pain, and struggle, Charley Orlando’s “Slipstream” offers a relaxed, comforting, and secure peace of mind.

Lyrically, the single reads as a plea for help in times of struggle. The line “My sweet friend, get me out of this slipstream” repeated throughout each chorus tells us where Orlando is coming from. But despite the pleas to be saved, Orlando’s steady, delicate voice tells us that there is still hope. Whatever may have caused the metaphorical slipstream, someone will be there to help get you out of it. Even if he is unsure, he knows that there is someone who will always be by his side. It is a message of a precious relationship that one can only hope to have. For those who do, it would only make them even more appreciative of their loved ones.

  • Brooklyn-Based Fox Indigo Releases “Trail of Hearts”

On June 14, award-winning songwriter and indie singer Fox Indigo, residing in Brooklyn, released her new single “Trail of Hearts.” With the tragic lyrics, and a soulful voice full of emotion on top of the energetic, jumpy backing track, Fox Indigo tells the tragic story of an intricate love triangle that ends in betrayal, heartbreak, and jealousy from all parties. Her newest single, “Trail of Hearts,” is just another example of her masterful storytelling through music.

    trail of hearts

Fox Indigo is an award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer living in New York City. Before venturing out as a solo artist, Indigo was the frontwoman of indie rock band American Fever. After her departure from the group, she went on to compose the score for the independent musical “BLOOM,” which she also co-wrote, starred in, and directed. In 2023, the cast performed the full musical at the SheNYCArts festival in New York. “BLOOM” won Indigo and her co-writer Ashlyn Bondurant the Rooftop Writer’s Award in 2023.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Fox Indigo wrote her first solo album, Man on the Moon, and released in 2022. Following the release of her musical, she is back and better than ever with her new song, “Trail of Hearts.” The single marks the highly-anticipated return of the pure, raw talent Fox Indigo embodies through her storytelling.

When juxtaposed against other music in the indie rock scene, “Trail of Hearts” immediately stands out. It’s clear that Fox Indigo draws her inspiration from a wide variety of artists. Sufjan Stevens, Beethoven, Regina Spektor, and the Beach Boys, (just to name a few) are only the beginning. As a classically trained musician, Fox Indigo mixes elements of jazz, rock, funk, and classical genres into her music. This single is no different.

Upon first listen, “Trail of Hearts” doesn’t sound like the typical indie-rock song. Piano chords in the pre-chorus and chorus and Fox Indigo’s punchy style of singing bring out the elements of jazz. Fox Indigo’s inspirations from classical music come through with the help of the violins. Combined with a group of talented musicians and other producers at the New School and Brooklyn College, “Trail of Hearts” displays Fox Indigo’s talent for composition.

The song’s lyrics bring it to the next level. With Fox Indigo’s growling vocals make lyrics like “And I’m so tired of having to get over things / Can’t anything stick? / For now, we’re young & beautiful / She is so beautiful / But it’s a goddamn trick” sound desperate and angry. It’s an honest perspective of how love triangles affect our emotions, lead us to jealousy, and test our patience with the ones we love. At other times, her wavering falsetto makes highly emotional moments like “She burns like the sun we idolize / God, she’s just like Marilyn Monroe / Leaving a trail of hearts / But she doesn’t know” sound as passive-aggressive, jealous, and vindictive as it should be.

Who wouldn’t be heartbroken and angry if their partner was looking at someone else, especially someone who is as beautiful as the iconic Marilyn Monroe? With this song, Fox Indigo shows us an honest look at how love triangles affect us. Through the brassy sounds of her jazz-inspired voice and the fusion of genres otherwise separate, “Trail of Hearts” is a fresh new single that showcases the artist’s incredible ability for storytelling.

“Trail of Hearts” is availible for listen on all streaming platforms, as well as this link.

  • New York-Based Artist Macinizby Debuts With “Closet”

On May 24, Manhattan-based indie pop artist Macinizby released her debut single, “Closet.” The thoughtfully crafted single tells the coming-of-age story of a queer person finding their way through life, love, and heartbreak.

Released right before the beginning of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, “Closet” opens the door for the next generation of queer artists and musicians to come into the spotlight.

Before her solo debut, Macinizby had already built a reputation for herself as a drummer in the city’s indie rock scene, playing with acts such as Bec Lauder and The Noise, Breaker, and Rose Paradise. However, unlike her work as a group performer, “Closet” gives us a deeply personal perspective of who Macinizby is, not only as an artist but as an individual, writer, and producer.

Produced alongside Jacob Geoffrey, “Closet” stands out from Macinizby’s past indie rock records with her group acts. The single acts as a method of storytelling for Macinizby. It’s hard to ignore the passion in her voice, let alone the meaningfulness of the lyrics. Reminiscent of the early days of Avril Lavigne and other pop-rock artists of the early 2000s, Macinizby puts her own creative spin on a classic teen love story.

The steady guitar riffs, coming-of-age angst, and bouncy vocal melody brings this song back, while the storyline brings us into the modern day. With “Closet,” time travel is absolutely possible. Any listener instantly feels as if they’ve traveled in time to a music video from 20 years ago. Macinizby’s “Closet” is a great way to introduce new audiences to the pop-rock genre.

As for the storyline, it is clear from the beginning what the artist is trying to convey. The struggles of a queer relationship are highlighted very poignantly. Yet, there is a sense of comfort that Macinizby’s lyrics and voice provide. Even in a situation as difficult as m maintaining a relationship, there is still hope. Love may or may not be the end result, but while it is there, it’s best if we enjoy it.

Get ready to rock…but also be prepared to shed some gay
    tears.

    Macinizby

For now, we must wait. But, there is no doubt that Macinizby’s new song, and solo career, are highly anticipated. Fans can listen to “Closet” on all major streaming platforms, as well as with this link.

  • Hearing Aide: Monotronic “Sun Song”

Appearing first with a gently phased guitar, the newest single, “Sun Song,” from NYC based indie outfit Monotronic thumps the low end frequencies for the opening minute.

With a beautifully brassy lead vocal, the latest release seems a breath of fresh air to the often nasal driven and female voiced genre. Skillfully produced, the dynamic shifts with the chorus to a major key pop groove reminiscent of your favorite 90’s hits before snapping shut to the second verse.

Bandleader Ramsey Elkholy displays tight songwriting with attention grabbing vocal melodies that seem designed to ping around your head for the rest of the day. His use of weaved vocals on the final chorus punctuates that display near perfectly.

Monotronic comprises a collective of NYC musicians, seemingly embracing the culture of Empire State artists synergistically growing together. At 3:30, their single leaves nothing to be desired except repeated plays and a follow up release.

  • Rebounder Celebrates ‘Born In The USA’ With Lofi Cover

NYC Band Rebounder is back with new music, starting with a cover of “Born In The USA” by Bruce Springsteen.

    rebounder born in the USA

Patrick Holland from the Canadian indie-rock band TOPS, co-produced and mixed the unique spin on the classic song just in time for the 40th anniversary of the original album. The song is a slower toned-down version of the Springsteen song. Instead of classic American rock, it’s an indie-lofi song. “Born In The USA” is accompanied by a DIY style music video featuring American scenes of highways, cityscapes and rural farmland.

    rebounder born in the USA

In 2020, Rebounder put their name on the map when they released their first EP, Subway Songs, including the song “Japanese Posters,” which gained 23 million streams on Spotify. In 2021, they released “Change Shapes” in collaboration with Jesse Rutherford. They’ve also collaborated with Chris Thompson of Vampire Weekend on production and toured with Phoenix, MUNA, Dayglow and Cautious Clay. The band’s frontman is Dylan Chenfeld. • Hipsy Gap Release Inspiring New Single “Nothing’s Good Enough”

On May 31, Brooklyn-based indie rock band Hipsy Gap released their new single, “Nothing’s Good Enough.” Emerging on the indie rock scene last fall, the newfound group stuns audiences with its odes to indie and alternative legends like Paramore, The Cranberries, and The Smiths.

    hipsy gap releases

A journey of self-discovery and identity can be one of the hardest that a person has to make in their life. Feelings of isolation, loneliness, and estrangement can creep up at any moment, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdowns. With constant stimulation and ostracization, it can be difficult to find something that relates to life’s toughest battles. Yet, Hipsy Gap is able to do just that in their soothing, easygoing latest track.

“Nothing’s Good Enough” handles a complex, deeply personal issue that would still be relatable for listeners: the idea of home. Part of life is learning how to make your own home, even if it is in an unfamiliar environment. But what if there was never a model for a person while they were growing up? The idea of “home” has different definitions for different people, of course. But there is no denying how difficult it can be to form and maintain those ideas.

“Nothing’s Good Enough” captures a unique perspective; searching for a “home” in the eyes of a person who has never known one before. The easygoing and flowing melodies showcase their dream of a life with no bounds, a feeling of true freedom. The increase in tempo and volume of the bridge, when the characters realize home is within, is just gut-wrenching enough to hit home for listeners struggling to find their home.

With their latest single bringing a feeling of comfort, angst, and discovery all in one, Hipsy Gap encapsulates the meaning of home from within. Their fascinating combination of genres makes them an exciting up-and-coming band to keep your eye on.

  • Folk Band The Felice Brothers Release New Single Flowers By The Roadside

Folk Rock band, The Felice Brothers, released their single “Flowers By The Roadside” on Thursday. The track is a preview of the upcoming album Valley of Abandoned Songs set to be released on June 28.

“Flowers By The Roadside” has a classic Americana acoustic sound and is accompanied by a music video which is filmed in a film noir and new wave style. It follows a young girl on her little adventures while some of the lyrics are typed out on the screen.

Guitarist and vocalist, Ian Felice said, “this song was written one especially bleak winter day as a means to teleport to summer. Midway through the first and only take of the song James walked across the room, picked up a toy glockenspiel and plucked out a melody that had occurred to him. It was recorded in 2018 in our old cinderblock studio outside of Hudson, NY.”

The Felice Brothers are originally from Palenville, NY in the Catskill mountains and they first started to get attention in the 2000’s when they played in the New York City Subway. Their first self released album Lantown came out in 2005. Since their start they’ve toured with Old Crow Medicine Show and opened for Dave Matthews Band. They are currently signed to Conor Oberst’s new label, Million Star Records. The band is made up of Ian Felice, James Felice (piano/vocals), Jeske Hume (bass), and Will Lawrence (drums).

Along with the new single, the album is full of great pieces. Ian Felice’s melancholic voice fills each song and some tracks have a slight bluegrass sound. The album has been described by Ian Felice as a “tightrope walk between light and dark.”

  • NYC-Based Shoegaze Band Silent Mass Release New Single “The Great Chaos”

New York City-based goth and shoegaze band Silent Mass has released a new brooding and dark single, “The Great Chaos.” The song will appear on the band’s forthcoming debut album, The Great Chaos, which is set to come out on June 20.

Silent Mass is an up-and-coming goth and shoegaze band with a unique blend of musical roots. Elements of post-punk, ethereal wave, shoegaze, and 90s alternative are all present in their music, just to name a few. Although only having a total of seven officially released songs available before their debut record, Silent Mass has already cornered in on the perfectly despondent and melancholic aesthetic that allows songs like “Nest of Flowers” and their new single “The Great Chaos” to shine. New York City is a well suited home for Silent Mass considering the melting pot of inspirations that contribute to their music.

Silent Mass began as a solo pursuit by current writer, producer and vocalist Ammo Bankoff. Her debut single, a cover of “Total Recall,” was released in 2020 as a tribute to Adrian Borland & The Sound. Shortly after the single’s release, Bankoff joined audio engineer/guitarist Robert Duncan and relocated to New York City to join drummer/producer Alex Posell.

Once fully assembled, Silent Mass released two singles in 2021 and three more in 2024. Their latest single, “The Great Chaos,” is the title track off of their upcoming long-awaited debut album. “‘The Great Chaos’ finds beauty in the spiral of self-discovery. It’s a love song about mourning a version of your past self,” said Ammo.

“The Great Chaos” sees Silent Mass in their element. The four-minute slow and hazy track is particularly held up by the chilling hook, where Ammo sings, “Can you find a way out, can you find a way out, can you find a way out of this nightmare?” over a wall of percussion, synths and guitar.

With seemingly everything set and ready for their upcoming debut record, “The Great Chaos” may very well be the last taste we get of Silent Mass’s dense and experimental sound before the full record releases on this summer solstice.

Silent Mass also has an upcoming show in New York City on July 13.

Stream “The Great Chaos” on Spotify, Apple Music and Youtube.

  • Jam Band God Street Wine Releases New Political Single “Kristi Shot a Puppy”

New York City band, God Street Wine, released their brand new comedic single on Tuesday, titled, “Kristi Shot a Puppy.”

    Kristi Shot a Puppy

The satirical title references South Dakota Governor, Kristi Noem. She is a controversial republican politician who, according to her own memoir, shot and killed her dog on her family farm.

God Street Wine is no stranger to dark humor as they often use comedic lyrics to get statements across to listeners.

The band took to Facebook writing, “No animals of any kind were harmed during the recording of this new #GodStreetWine song. We wish the same was true of the subject matter. It’s a weird world out there. Be safe, be kind and please exercise your right to #vote. Your voice matters!”

Since the band formed in 1988, God street Wine has released nine studio albums and opened for big names in rock including The Allman Brothers Band, Dave Mathews band and Sheryl Crow. Founding bandmates, Lo Faber and Dan Pifer met at NYU and then transferred to Manhattan school of music where they met guitarist and vocalist Aaron Maxwell. The founding members’ background in jazz mixed with bluegrass and rock creates the band’s unique sound.

“Kristi Shot a Puppy” follows their album released in February, Hot Sweet and Juicy. Fans will have a chance to see God Street Band live while they hit the road again this Fall. They will perform at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, Sept. 20 and 21, The NYC venue, The Cutting room on Sept. 27 and The Wonder Bar in New Jersey Sept 28.

You can check out their new single here. To find out more information about the upcoming tour, visit their website.
