Back for its 24th year in a row, the Brunswick Summer Concert Series is here for another summer of jams in the park. The free-to-the-public series will feature shows every Tuesday between 6:30-8 p.m. from July 9 to August 27 in the Brunswick Community Center field.
Brunswick, located in Troy, just northeast of Albany, has long been a musically rich town. With the combined populations of Troy and Albany reaching above 150,000, the region has a lot of space for fostering talent.
Initially beginning in 2001 as the only Albany-area summer concert series other than the wildly successful Alive at 5, the Brunswick Summer Concert Series has evolved into a musical community staple. What was once a far-out idea to organizers now attracts around 400 people to all of its concerts. Bands that perform in the series are often local to Brunswick or at least have local connections.
Located in the beautiful Brunswick Community Center field, the series’ venue has everything that one could need. All shows will take place on the community center’s wooden stage, overlooking a large grass field that’s perfect for blankets and lawn chairs. A professional sound system will also be hooked up for all shows, courtesy of local audiovisual company Live Sound Inc. Performances will usually have food vendors that open 30 minutes before the start time so that guests have the opportunity to get food before the performances begin.
One of this summer’s vendors is the local American food restaurant, Big Bellies. Big Bellies has a permanent storefront in Troy but also operates a food truck for special occasions. Come down and see Big Bellies at the Brunswick Community Center for burgers and fries ahead of any of the shows.
As with every year, this summer has a wide variety of acts. From Get Up Jack’s Celtic/Americana to The Tichy Boys’ country/rockabilly, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Big Fez & The Surfmatics, a surf and beach band, will even bring along two dance instructors to help anyone in the crowd looking to learn dances from the 60s to fit the mood during their performance on July 23.
So if you’ve got the time, take a trip to the Brunswick Community Center on a Tuesday night this summer and enjoy an evening of live music, delicious food and a spirited atmosphere.
In the event of rain, shows will be canceled. Visit here for updates.
Soul Coughing, one of the most unique and influential rock and roll bands of the last four decades, is returning to the stage fully formed for the first time in 25 years.
All four original members, Mike Doughty, Sebastian Steinberg, Mark degli Antoni and Yuval Gabay will be performing from coast to coast this September and October, capping the tour off with back-to-back nights in New York City.
NIELS VAN IPEREN/GETTY IMAGES
Each exclusive performance will feature songs from their El Oso,Irresistible Bliss and their genre-defining debut album Ruby Vroom which celebrates its 30th anniversary this fall.
The four members of Soul Coughing have said it again and again to audiences, fans, and journalists: We will not reunite. Stop asking. Well, you might want to pose that question one more time, because the tune has changed. This fall, all four original members will take the stage once more, with 17 dates across the country—bringing their glorious, off-kilter magic to a whole new audience.
Mike Doughty (vocals/guitar), Mark degli Antoni (keyboards/sampler), Sebastian Steinberg (bass), and Yuval Gabay (drums) formed Soul Coughing in 1992 after meeting at New York’s Knitting Factory, where Doughty worked the door. A truly eclectic collection of musicians, the guys merged drum & bass, trance, rock & roll and hip-hop to create a totally unique strain of music. As Doughty says: “Our music didn’t fit into the landscape then and it doesn’t now. We were super incorrect. We were messy. We were all over the place. There were moments in our career where we tried to be less different, and we always failed.” And thank God for that.
Over their eight-year history, the guys collected a motley crew of fans who gravitated to the deeply weird—yet danceable—energy of their discography, starting off with their 1994 debut, Ruby Vroom. They broke up in 2000, but Soul Coughing has lived on in the minds and hearts of their most ardent fans—and a new crop of listeners who may have heard standouts like “Super Bon Bon” on a video game soundtrack or “Circles” on a favorite TV show.
And the guys themselves are no slouches. Doughty has been releasing solo records at a steady clip since the band broke up and has penned two memoirs. Meanwhile, degli Antoni has thrown himself into the soundtrack world, scoring films by the likes of Wernor Herzog. He also collabed with Steinberg, who has played with everyone from Iron & Wine to Fiona Apple—notably on her critically acclaimed 2020 record Fetch the Bolt Cutters. Steinberg also linked up with Gabay on a drum and bass project called UV Ray and select recordings for Suzanne Vega. Gabay then moved to the U.K. and recorded with DJ Krust, ADF, and Roni Size Reprazent.
When they hit the 30th anniversary of Ruby Vroom, though, Doughty started looking backward. After playing the whole record on tour solo, he reached out to the band with a radical idea: a reunion tour where they’d play a best-of collection of tracks from Vroom, 1996’s Irresistible Bliss, and 1998’s El Oso. “The end was acrimonious, but I just thought I’d give it a shot,” he says. “So I just wrote an email to all three guys. It took a little convincing for some of them, but I was really gratified that everyone wanted to take part in that again—to see if we can be a great band again.”
To say the guys were shocked might be a bit of an understatement. But it was also a kind of much-needed salvation. “When he first reached out it was such a relief,” says Steinberg. “We all have our part to play in any dysfunctional relationship. But it was an immediate relief. I could just say, ‘Hey, man, we did something wonderful. And I’m sorry, too. That was cool.’” Gabay had a similar reaction: “I respect the music. I love what I did there. I love what the guys are doing—we were a good band.”
As for the setlist, that’s still in flux. Doughty lives in Memphis, degli Antoni in New York, Steinberg in L.A., and Gabay in Jerusalem, so they have yet to get together for rehearsals. Still, they’re all practicing—and will rehearse for a solid week leading up to the show. Doughty is singing three hours per day, Steinberg is getting back into the very muscular swing of Soul Coughing, as is Gabay—and degli Antoni? He’s unearthing his old sampler—which he bought decades ago with his student loan money—and sorting through everything from snippets of ‘60s songs to seagull calls.
“We’re just trying to pick the songs that bring us joy,” Doughty says. “We’re really trying to kind of revel in each other as musicians and that’s what the setlist is going to be based on. One thing that’s always been true about this band is every song is somebody’s favorite song.”
“Really one of the best conversations I’ve had in this band ever was Mike and I sitting down by the L.A. river for almost two hours and just going through the songs,” Steinberg adds. “I think there’s nothing I wouldn’t try to tackle, because it’s all so insane.” As for the clubs, they went back to venues that supported them back in the day. “Our agents did some archaeological work, finding people in the music business that would really care about this—and really, really be excited about it,” Doughty says.
As they head toward making history, all Soul Coughing knows for sure is that the band was something special—something never replicated. And this time around, it’s all about unity. “Music is a place of escapism, for people to go to a magical world,” Gabay says. “That’s what interests me. I want to bring people together. How can you bring a variety of people to the gig? Music brings people together—both the band and the audience.”
And as for how they promised to never get back together? “We just decided to let bygones be bygones. You know, everybody had issues,” Doughty says. “Our fans are going to be shocked, man. I can’t even believe how much they’re going to be shocked.”

In each year’s series, every night is themed around a different genre of music. Some of this year’s themes include Philly funk, reggae and roots rock.
All shows will run between 7-9 p.m., but the grassy field overlooking the stage fills up quickly, so guests are advised to arrive early for good spots. Seating is not offered, so make sure to bring some blankets and lawn chairs. If you have a boat with no motor, you are more than welcome to paddle up to the shore and watch any of the shows from there.

Marking what would have been the late singer’s 78th birthday, The Bon Scott Estate is embarking on a number of high-profile activations to celebrate the icon’s life and music.
On July 9, the actual birthday of Scott, a tribute concert will be held at Arlene’s Grocery on New York City’s Lower East Side. The infamous rock club has hosted some of the most raucous nights of rock and roll in the 21st century, and the show will harken back to the secret set that AC/DC performed at CBGB in 1977. 16 singers will each tackle one classic AC/DC song with a stellar backing band.
44 years after his untimely passing, the music Bon Scott helped create with AC/DC continues to resonate with fans and fellow artists.
Few rock singers were as unforgettable—and have proved as enduring—as Bon Scott. As the frontman of AC/DC from 1974 until his tragic passing in 1980, his “rock n’ roll pirate persona,” street poet lyrics, and striking image have made him an absolute legend. Additionally, Bon’s vocals were featured in several pre-AC/DC bands, including Fraternity, the Valentines, and the Spektors.
But really, it is the quality of the songs of the “Bon-era” of AC/DC that serve as his greatest legacy: “Highway to Hell,” “Sin City,” “Whole Lotta Rosie,” “Let There Be Rock,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” “T.N.T.,” and “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)”—the list is seemingly endless.
How does Bon measure up to rock’s all-time great frontmen? Classic Rock Magazine declared him “The Greatest Rock n’ Roll Front Man of All Time” in 2004, beating out the lofty likes of Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, and Axl Rose in the process.
In addition to the tribute concert, The Bon Scott Estate will be releasing a variety of merchandise and collectibles.
Two new online stores are launching in time for the birthday, one at Amazon in the U.S. and the other at Merch Jungle in Australia, making it easier and more cost-effective for fans to get their hands on their favorite singer’s merchandise. Further Amazon stores will continue to roll out throughout the world. Bon Scott’s e-commerce and merchandising program is handled by Perryscope Productions, LLC.
A brand-new merch design will be launching to commemorate the birthday by renowned Australian graphic artist Dave Homer.
Information and tickets for the NYC show can be found here. Visit here for official Bon Scott merchandise.

Saugerties’ exciting multi-arts and cultural center, The Local, is following up its highly acclaimed first year with another remarkable series of live events starting in September. With 16 shows previewed, and more to come, The Local is continuing its mission of bringing a diverse lineup of world-class artists from around the globe and around the corner to perform in an intimate setting.
The Local is a new venue for arts, culture, and community in Saugerties, NY, founded by Isabel Soffer and Danny Melnick, co-founders of Hudson Valley Live. The two Saugerties-based music producers and performing-arts professionals have each devoted more than 30 years to producing festivals, concerts, and curated arts experiences.
Besides its own world-class series of music and dance events, the ADA-accessible space is available to rent for parties, concerts, pop-ups, gallery exhibits, and more. The Local is located in the heart of the Village of Saugerties at 16 John St., behind the Saugerties Reformed Church on Main Street.
In The Local’s first year, more than 50 acclaimed acts performed, dozens of shows sold out and a fundraiser to help purchase a new stage and make necessary upgrades raised more than $35,000.
This upcoming season will see an eclectic range of performances—and many Hudson Valley NY debuts—including Brazilian singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Bia Ferreira (Sept. 25); Habibi Festival Hudson Valley with Arabic Trance Jazz (Oct. 3); and the ambient country sounds of SUSS (Nov. 1), described as “Brian Eno meets Ennio Morricone.” Psychedelic Furs guitarist Knox Chandler will be a special guest of Doom Jazz duo Bobby Previte and Jamie Saft (Nov. 2), and the riveting 20-piece NYC Ska Orchestra brings their uplifting big-band sound (Nov. 9).
Plus, this season will bring additional collaborations with renowned Brooklyn venue Barbès Brooklyn, more dance parties with Turntables on the Hudson (their April 2024 dance party at The Local with DJ Nickodemus was a wild success), and a continuation of the popular Consider This speaker series featuring experts discussing topics relevant to our communities.
The entire season kicks off Friday, Sept. 20, with a thrilling performance by acclaimed eight-piece band Sidy Samb’s Afroflamenco, direct from Spain.
“We’re grateful for the support The Local has received so far, and our next season will continue to bring more music, dancing, culture, inspiration, and collaboration to the area,” said co-founder Isabel Soffer.
“We’re starting the second fall season with a wide array of events that we hope will encourage curiosity and cross-cultural understanding,” said co-founder Danny Melnick.
Ticket sales will begin on Sunday, July 21. For tickets and more information, visit The Local’s website here. See below for the current full fall lineup.

Global superstar Post Malone has announced his F-1 Trillion Tour, a momentous 21-show outing with stadium, festival, and amphitheater performances around the U.S., with four stops in New York State.
The New York native will play in his hometown of Syracuse, along with Saratoga Springs, Wantagh, and New York City, all in September.
The 9 times diamond-certified GRAMMY Award-nominated phenomenon, artist Post Malone regularly rewrites history, blurs boundaries, and incites internet-breaking conversation with every move. Emerging in 2015 with a genre-less brew that inspired a movement, he delivered the diamond-selling “Congratulations,” achieved back-to-back #1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200, received countless multi-Platinum certifications around the world, and smashed one record after another with his Hot 100-topping hits.
In 2022, he pushed boundaries again with his fourth full-length offering, Twelve Carat Toothache, which marked his fourth consecutive Top 5 bow on the Top 200. It also paved the way for his biggest headliner to date, The Twelve Carat Toothache Tour, taking over arenas for multiple dates in major cities throughout the year. He even scored “the highest-certified single in RIAA history” with the 17x-platinum “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse),” netting the biggest single of his generation. In 2023, he garnered a GRAMMY Award nod in the category of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for “I Like You (A Happier Song)” [with Doja Cat], marking his tenth career nomination in six years.
As of 2023, his catalog comprises the GRAMMY Award-nominated “rockstar” [feat. 21 Savage” (Diamond), “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse)” [feat. Swae Lee] (2x Diamond), “I Fall Apart” (Diamond), “Psycho” [feat. Ty Dolla $ign] (Diamond), “White Iverson” (Diamond), “Better Now” (Diamond), and more. Not to mention, he sold out numerous arena tours and hosted and curated his own mega-popular Posty Fest in 2018 and 2019. It all started with his quintuple-platinum influential 2016 debut, Stoney. With records under his belt that will likely never be surpassed and a generation of artists and audiences worldwide under his spell, Post Malone simply doesn’t stop.
Tickets will be available starting with a Citi presale beginning Wednesday, June 26 at 10 a.m. local time. Additional pre-sales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on-sale beginning Monday, July 1 at 10 a.m. local time.

Celebrating the event’s 20th anniversary, Colonie, NY, unveiled the lineup for this year’s Tuesday Nights in the Park Concert Series. The free-to-the-public series will run every Tuesday night between now and August 27, with shows starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Cook Park Frank A. Leak Amphitheater.
Colonie, is a town of about 80,000 people nestled at the north end of Albany County. Besides having many beautiful parks, including the Crossings, a 130-acre passive park with miles of biking and walking trails, and numerous historical sights, Colonie is home to the annual Tuesday Nights in the Park Concert Series at the Cook Park Frank A. Leak Amphitheater.
The free concert series captures the attention of locals every year, with performances often bringing in crowds that fill out the on-looking field with an array of multicolored lawn chairs and blankets. This year’s series is particularly special, with it being the 20th anniversary of the first Tuesday Nights in the Park show in 2004.
The 2024 series boasts a lineup of performers that play a wide variety of musical genres, ranging from New Orleans cajun blues to Celtic to soul. From originals in unique genres to classic covers, there’s bound to be something for everyone in this year’s setlist.
Funded entirely through sponsors, benefactors and individual patrons, Tuesday Nights in the Park is a true Colonie community event. In the words of Colonie Village Hall, “During the summer, Tuesday nights in Cook Park are alive with music, laughter, dancing, and community camaraderie.”
Food and refreshments will be sold on-site by Mike’s Hot Dogs, and bathrooms are available in the nearby Cook Pavilion. In the event of rain, shows will be held on the following Wednesday in the same location, weather permitting. The old-school jazz-themed musical venue and eatery, Jazz on Main in Mount Kisco, NY, has grown into a place for the community to gather and celebrate the arts and music in the two short years since opening.
They have been able to accomplish this through their frequent jam sessions, open mics, Sunday brunches, and most importantly, main gigs with professional musicians and bands, all partnered with delicious Mediterranean food. Shows run year-round, but a few upcoming shows this month deserve special attention.
The charming Westchester town of Mount Kisco is only 43 miles north of New York City, but anyone who spends time there knows there are not many reasons to leave. The walkable downtown is full of boutiques, bistros, and a movie theater, making it the perfect place to spend a casual day shopping and sightseeing.
Jazz on Main opened its doors in the heart of Mount Kisco in 2022 with a mission to provide diverse live performances, an incomparable sound and lighting system, and a sumptuous Mediterranean menu. Heavily inspired by the golden age of jazz, Jazz on Main upholds the classic feel of a classic 20th-century jazz bar.
All of this is paired with a diverse menu of Mediterranean food, ranging from small bites to three-course dinners.
With multiple shows every week, a lot of artists come and go to Jazz on Main that deserve to be recognized. Five events are scheduled just in the last week of June. Here are a couple of them:
Martin Reuter Group – June 27, 7:00 PM
NYC based composer/drummer North Sea artist Martin leads his 4-piece band with modern sounds, interesting grooves in front of regularly sold out crowds, including the 55Bar, where he was discovered by Bob Belden (Miles Davis producer for Sony Legacy).
Jojo Kuo (drummer for Peter Gabriel, Manu DiBango, Papa Wemba) calls Martin “a sorcerer,” Mike Stern (solo guitarist and sideman for Miles Davis, Blood, Sweat & Tears) remarked Martin was “a bad cat”. His compositions remind Rae Serrano (Producer, Africa Bambaata, Top 10 Billboard) “of Weather Report and late electric Miles Davis”. Come hear and see for yourself.
Aubrey Johnson Quartet featuring Randy Napoleon – June 28, 7:00 PM
Brooklyn-based jazz vocalist Aubrey Johnson teams up with Detroit native guitarist Randy Napoleon for an exciting evening of originals, jazz standards, and Brazilian music. Joining them will be two of New York Cityâs most in-demand rhythm section players, Louie Leager on bass and Michael W. Davis on drums.
Performer on two GRAMMY Award-winning albums, Johnson has sung on over 50 albums, including two of her own, and performed with such artists as Bobby McFerrin, Janis Siegel, Fred Hersch, and her uncle, the late pianist Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group).
