Emmy Award winner and two-time GRAMMY Award nominee David Cross has assembled a lineup of A-list comedians and friends for a special night of laughter under the stars at SummerStage at Central Park in New York City for David Cross and His Super Pals on Aug. 8, 2024.
Joining Cross for this incredible evening in Central Park are Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Silverman, Fred Armisen, Sean Patton, Zach Zucker, Shane Torres, and more. The evening also marks a reunion on stage between Cross, the inventive performer, writer, and producer on stage and screen, with Odenkirk as both starred in the 1990s hit TV show, Mr. Show with Bob and David.
Adding to his long list of memorable TV and film characters, on August 8, Cross will join the cast of the Netflix series, The Umbrella Academy, as Sy Grossman for the fourth and final season. In February, Cross released his eighth stand-up special, David Cross: Worst Daddy in the World, to rave reviews on the 800 Pound Gorilla YouTube channel.
He hosts the podcast, Senses Working Overtime with David Cross, produced by Headgum and available every Thursday on all audio platforms with video available on Davidâs YouTube channel. In 2023, he was seen in the Julia Louis-Dreyfus film, You Hurt My Feelings, and the FX series, Justified: City Primeval. In 2021, he starred in the National Geographic series, Genius: Aretha, portraying famed music producer, Jerry Wexler opposite Cynthia Erivo as Aretha Franklin.
David Cross and His Super Pals join James Arthur, who will open the summer concert season at SummerStage on May 17, along with Masego (June 19), Gaslight Anthem with Joyce Manor (August 21), Counting Crows (July 11), The Roots (August 23), T-Pain (June 23), Robert Glasper and Yebba (August 1), Ethel Cain (June 27), and many others.

Bryant Park announces the 2024 lineup for its free summer performing arts series: Bryant Park Picnic Performances presented by Bank of America. The annual festival will feature 25 live music, dance, and theater events between May 31 and Sept. 13. All shows are free and casual with no tickets required with more than 700 picnic blankets for audience members to borrow and ample chairs available.

Picnic Performances has grown to become one of New York City’s foremost outdoor performing arts festivals. Last summer, more than 75,000 people attended the series and nearly half a million enjoyed the free performance livestreams. Bryant Park Picnic Performances has become a vital outdoor platform for the City’s arts institutions, showcasing long-standing partnerships with Carnegie Hall, New York City Opera, Harlem Stage, The Town Hall, and Joe’s Pub, as well as new partnerships with New Victory Theater, World Music Institute, and Belongó.
The Bryant Park 2024 season features GRAMMY winners, world-class dance companies, theater stars, celebrations of centenaries in jazz and opera, a James Bond-themed finale, and dozens of local artists and spotlight performers from Ghana, New Orleans, Mexico, and South Africa.

Highlights of the Bryant Park 2024 Picnic Performances include the New York City Opera honoring the 100th anniversary of the death of Giacomo Puccini with a two-night celebration of his music featuring orchestra, chorus, and star vocalists. The summer of Puccini continues with a fully staged production of Tosca in August. Internationally acclaimed dance companies – including Mark Morris Dance Group, Ronald K. Brown/EVIDENCE, and David Dorfman Dance – headline multiple evenings of Contemporary Dance alongside established, rising, and student companies.
Jazzmobile celebrates the Centennial of legendary jazz vocalist Sarah Vaughan, “The Divine One,” with a jubilant performance by the acclaimed vocalist Charenée Wade and her septet. Carnegie Hall Citywide presents five concerts in July and August, beginning with a special evening with Pulitzer-Prize-winning composer Tania León and The Harlem Chamber Players with special guests. Carnegie Hall will also present the acclaimed South African musician Thandiswa Mazwai, GRAMMY Award-nominated bandleader of The Late Show Band Louis Cato, the high-energy Afrojazz trailblazer Michael Olatuja and Lagos Pepper Soup, and red-hot salsa dura band La Excelencia.

Joe’s Pub brings rising theater stars Jaime Lozano and Florencia Cuenca for Broadway en Spanglish, featuring bilingual performances of iconic show tunes with Mariachi Real de Mexico and more guest stars TBA. As part of New Victory Theater’s summer series New Victory Dance, Ephrat Asherie and Barkin/Selissen Project join for an interactive dance event curated specifically for kids and families. World Music Institute welcomes Ghanaian highlife band Gyedu-Blay Ambolley (NYC debut).
Asian American Arts Alliance features MacArthur ‘Genius’ pianist Vijay Iyer and his trio. The beloved Bryant Park tradition Accordions Around the World returns with 2024 GRAMMY nominee Zydeco star Dwayne Dopsie and Latin funk band Afro Dominicano. American Symphony Orchestra kicks off its season with Beyond the Hall, a program highlighting music from beyond the confines of the traditional concert hall.
Finally, The Town Hall and Belongó celebrate John Barry’s iconic James Bond music with an all-star lineup of musicians led by Arturo O’Farrill with the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, and composer arranger and slide trumpet master Steven Bernstein, together with exciting surprise special guests.

Caroga Arts Collective announced the lineup for the Caroga Lake Music Festival (CLMF)’s 2024 summer season – bringing in more than 150 artists from around the world to Caroga for 40 events spanning genres from funk, rock, pop to jazz, americana, classical, and even comedy.
Notable artists include Cory Wong, Sawyer Fredericks, Eddie Barbash, Alex Moffat, Henhouse Prowlers, and rising superstar Eddie Benjamin. In addition, over 100 Resident Artists from 24 states and five countries will reside across six weeks and perform major orchestral pieces like Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Copland’s Appalachian Spring, as well as prominent solo and chamber works.
Presented by Caroga Arts Collective, the Caroga Lake Music Festival is a multi-genre music festival presenting a series of world-class performances in the Southern Adirondacks. Since the festival’s founding in 2012, CMLF has grown from a one-week chamber music festival to an internationally recognized festival showcasing a multitude of genres from May to September. The mainstay is a five-week summer residency featuring renowned soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral professionals in collaboration with international touring guest artists.
Located on the shore of West Caroga Lake, Sherman’s Park is the home base for the Caroga Lake Music Festival. Performing at the 2024 CLMF for the first time this year are ‘80s rock band Generation Radio(featuring former members of Chicago, Rascal Flatts, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), Americana/country group The Mallett Brothers Band, and jazz vocalist Shayna Steele. Other highlights will include: “Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue at 100,” performed by Caroga Arts Ensemble and conducted by Grammy winner David Alan Miller, with Kevin Cole on piano; The return of the free Kids Carousel Concert series including a performance of Louie the Loon, back by popular demand; The Queen’s Cartoonists and collaborations with Running Wild Media and Utica Dance; and Multi-instrumentalist and musical prodigy Eddie Benjamin, who toured with superstar Justin Bieber, collaborates with Caroga Arts Ensemble.
In the Fall of 2023, Caroga Arts launched the String Project & Arts Collaborative Education (SPACE) program in Wheelerville and Johnstown schools. This groundbreaking initiative aims to deliver accessible music lessons and mentorship opportunities to students in schools where the offerings are not otherwise provided in their music programs. This summer marks another milestone for Caroga Arts as they introduce the SPACE Summer Camp, previously recognized as the CLMF Lessons & Ensemble Program. The camp is designed to continue the momentum of providing individual and small group lessons throughout the summer, offering students the opportunity to learn from the esteemed Resident Artists.

The Aaron & Samantha Judge Sensory Room was created in partnership with KultureCity, the world’s leading nonprofit on sensory accessibility and acceptance for those with invisible disabilities and sensory needs, and New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and his wife Samantha, who is a KultureCity Board Member. The sensory room joins similar rooms at Sphere and Radio City Music Hall as part of the MSG Family of Companies’ commitment to expanding accessibility for all guests across its portfolio of renowned venues.

The new room at The Garden is thoughtfully designed to accommodate different sensory needs, incorporating elements such as adjustable lighting, calming visuals, and comfortable seating. A range of sensory tools and equipment such as bubble walls, Yogibo bean bags, Nunoerin sparkle, and tactile objects are available to create a personalized and calming experience. The sensory room is designed to be fully accessible, including for wheelchair users, accommodating individuals of all abilities and ages.
The MSG Family of Companies first partnered with KultureCity in 2019. The room at MSG joins sensory rooms at Radio City Music Hall, and Sphere, the next-generation entertainment medium in Las Vegas. Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and Sphere are all KultureCity-certified venues, which means the guest-facing staff at all three venues have completed KultureCity training.

Iconic British producer Chris Lake is bringing his Black Book Records brand to New York City for a special open-air show at the historic industrial waterfront venue Brooklyn Army Terminal.
The label boss and one of the most respected artists in the house music scene will headline the mid-summer spectacle on July 19 and 20, 2024. Chris Lake has released countless hits, including “Turn off the Lights,” “Beggin’’” and “In The Yuma.” He initially launched Black Book in 2016 to share his music but quickly started putting out tunes by fellow stars in the genre, including Walker & Royce, Eli Brown, and Cloonee.
The historic Brooklyn Army Terminal offers a unique experience and unobstructed waterfront views of the Manhattan and New Jersey skylines. The military base turned manufacturing campus in the Sunset Park neighborhood features a large outdoor area and a “raw” warehouse space that form a premier setting for music events. The showcase will host Lake in a dynamic setting and fashion, unlike anything fans have seen from him before. The Irondequoit Concert Band has announced the world premiere performance of “Where the Land and Waters Meet,” a captivating new fanfare for concert band by award-winning composer Stephen Shewan. The premiere performance is at the band’s 50th Anniversary concert on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Irondequoit High School Auditorium.
Commissioned by the band in honor of their golden anniversary, “Where the Land and Waters Meet” is a dynamic and evocative piece inspired by the Irondequoit landscape and the Seneca Nation. Incorporating the traditional Seneca Canoe Song, “Kayowajineh,” Shewan has crafted a musical journey that explores the intersection of land and water, showcasing Irondequoit’s vibrant spirit and rich natural beauty.
The Irondequoit Concert Band is a community concert band that provides high-quality musical performances for audiences in Irondequoit and beyond. This group of talented musicians from diverse backgrounds showcases a wide range of musical styles and repertoire under the direction of David Schantz. Annually, the band performs a winter and spring concert, and an outdoor summer concert series at locations throughout Irondequoit.
Stephen Shewan is a retired music educator from Western New York and a renowned composer of music for ensembles of all types. He is known for modern, evocative pieces that are fun to play and listen to. His music has been performed across North America and Europe, winning numerous awards.
The April 21 concert will feature the talented musicians of the band, under the direction of David Schantz, and their favorite hits through the years such as “Highlights from Les Miserablés” arranged by Warren Barker, a unique composition by former conductor J. Russell Thomas, “A Piece for Didjeridu and Band” and more.

Legendary folk singer, activist, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Joan Baez has announced she is releasing her first book of poetry When You See My Mother, Ask Her to Dance – out April 30.
Joan Baez, a Staten Island native, is a dynamic force of nature. Her commitment to music and social activism has earned global recognition, ranging from induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, to the Ambassador of Conscience Award – Amnesty International’s highest honor. Her repertoire often included songs of protest and social justice, now retired from active performing since 2019. She has devoted much of her time to the “Mischief Makers” series of paintings that immortalize risk-taking visionaries she has known from Dr. Martin Luther King and Bob Dylan to the Dalai Lama and Patti Smith. Last year she published her book of drawings – Am I Pretty When I Fly?
An “intimate, autobiographical poetry collection,” the book contains poems for or about artists like Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, and Jimi Hendrix. She has been writing poetry for decades, according to the publication announcement, as “poems about her life, her family, about her passions for nature and art, have piled up in notebooks and on scraps of paper.”
The book’s description states “This collection is an inspiring personal diary in the form of poetry,” tugging on your heartstrings with its profound impact. Bernie Taupin, another Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, describes her words as “both poignantly executed and captivating in a colorful closeness that pin-points the chinks in our armor that mirror all facets of the world we inhabit,” while Gabriel Byrne, author of Walking with Ghosts calls her verses “simple and elegant [that] resonates with profound insight into what it means to be alive.”

The performing arts centers at The Egg and the University at Albany, which jointly present Dance in Albany, are proud to present Savion Glover on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 8 pm at The Egg.
Glover has visited the region for performances and speaking engagements on many occasions, most recently as part of the Dance in Albany series in April 2023. “PaRT.TU The LaST HooFeR STaNDiNG” is the second installment of Glover’s Cinema Stage CoLLeqSHuNz which continues to explore the boundaries between mental health and self-expression. According to Glover, the show creates an environment where the highest form of sensitivity is necessary to welcome complete comprehension.
Born in 1973, the tap dancer, choreographer, and actor has graced the stage since childhood. Before he was a teenager, Savion Glover made his mark in the leading role of the Broadway musical The Tap Dance Kid, starring alongside Hattie Winston, Samuel E. Wright, Martine Allard, Jackie Lowe, Barbara Montgomery, Alfonso Ribeiro, the recently deceased Hinton Battle, who won a Tony Award for his performance, and the late Alan Weeks, a long-time Capital Region resident who ran the Student Theatre Outreach Program (STOP) at The Egg for many years.
Glover developed his own dancing style, “free style hard core.” The Tony Award winner eventually worked with dancing greats Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr. Among his credits are starring roles in major motion pictures like Jelly’s Last Jam, for which he made history as the youngest-ever recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant. As a choreographer, his work has helped maintain tap dancing as an art form in the modern dance world. His starring role in the musical Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk, which he also choreographed, debuted on Broadway in 1996. The musical chronicles events in African-American history and brought him another Tony for Best Choreographer.
Savion Glover was made known to the younger generation with recurring appearances on Sesame Street. He also holds the credit as the live captured dancing motion behind Mumble the Penguin in Happy Feet, the film on which he also served as co-choreographer.

Estival Festival in Canedea, NY has announced their lineup, featuring Cuppasoup, Sim Redmond Band, and more from June 21-23.
Estival Festival at the Sugar Mountain Performing Arts Center features three days of great music and events for the whole family, including camping, fireworks, hot air balloon rides, a special Kid Zone, parades with stilt walkers, jugglers, and more, and music workshops. The Sugar Mountain Kitchen & other food vendors will be open, serving a wide variety of food, drinks, and snacks for when you don’t feel like cooking at your campsite.
Phase 1 of the lineup includes the Rochester-based group Harmonica Lewinski and CUPPASOUP featuring Chris J English, Aaron Lipp, and Ric Robertson. Diggin Roots from the Buffalo/Western New York area makes an appearance. Formed in the summer of 2013 by a group of friends who share a passion for the roots of American music, the band draws from musical influences like blues, jazz, rock, bluegrass, and folk music with a hint of jam.
The Sim Redmond Band will make an appearance. Based in Ithaca but with roots in Africa, particularly the sounds emanating from West & South Africa, they have been steadily growing, forging new ground in roots music. The vocal teamwork of Sim Redmond, Jen Middaugh, and Nate Silas Richardson creates some of the richest harmonies youâll ever hear. New York-based alternative band High Pines delivers a unique improvisational sound through their original music. Playing throughout New York and Pennsylvania since 2020, their audience has quickly grown. With captivating vocals, expansive dynamics, and ambient space, High Pines will not want to be missed.

The final addition to the Phase 1 lineup is The Son Henry Band. Henry is an award-winning singer/songwriter and lap steel guitarist – singing and performing covers and original material on the guitar, lap steel, dobro, and slide guitar as a solo artist or as a lead in bands with long-term collaborators in the UK, US, and Eastern Europe.

Playhouse Stage Company announced the opening of a brand new production of the celebrated musical Spring Awakening, playing at Cohoes Music Hall through April 28, with 7:30 p.m. evening performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays.
Playhouse Stage has produced free outdoor summer musicals at Albany’s Park Playhouse since 1989 and has been presenting musicals year-round at the historic Cohoes Music Hall since 2016. Spring Awakening is a rock musical based on a 19th-century German play of the same name and explores the challenges of adolescence and coming of age in a repressive world. The production plays April 12-28, 2024.
The winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening features a book and lyrics by Steven Sater, and a rock-infused score by Duncan Sheik. About its original 2006 Broadway production The New York Observer wrote, “Once in a generation, if we’re lucky, an unexpected new musical comes along and changes everything. That is the thrilling achievement of Spring Awakening.” With electrifying music that Entertainment Weekly called “the most gorgeous Broadway score ofthe decade,” and a fearless approach to important, often taboo topics, including suicide, sexual assault, and child abuse, Spring Awakening grips audiences with an intense emotional journey.
We are excited to give our very talented teen students a chance to work on such a relevant, challenging, and exciting piece of theatre. Many themes and topics explored in Spring Awakening are often referred to as adult subject matter, but these are things that teenagers deal with daily, and it is important to shine a light on them. We are extremely proud of both our students and our creative team for handling the mature subject matter in such a professional manner, and rising to the occasion to tell this vital story so effectively.

The production is directed by Playhouse Stage Managing Director, Chuck Kraus, with choreography and musical staging by Director of Education Ashley Simone Kirchner, and musical direction by Brandon Jones. The trio has helmed the Playhouse’s advanced teen productions since 2016. Rounding out the Creative Team as Intimacy Director is Yvonne Perry in her first Playhouse Stage Company collaboration. The youth roles in the production are performed by advanced teen students from the Playhouse Stage Academy theatre training program, alongside local professional performers Ellen Cribbs and Nick.
