  • Primus, Coheed and Cambria Announce Tour, Coming to Saratoga, Buffalo, and Big Flats

    PRIMUS and COHEED AND CAMBRIA have announced that they will be teaming up this summer for an extensive 25-date summer tour, coming to Outer Harbor in Buffalo on Aug. 9, Michelob Ultra Summer Stage at Tag’s in Big Flats on Aug. 10, and Broadview Stage at SPAC in Saratoga Springs on Aug. 12.

    The tour will be supported by GUERILLA TOSS, TOO MANY ZOOZ, and FISHBONE, who will be opening for the headlining acts throughout the summer. PRIMUS has had a busy few years – releasing their first new music in five years with the Conspiranoid EP. The band also completed their extensive “A Tribute To Kings” tour across North America, where they performed Rush’s A Farewell To Kings in its entirety, alongside a set of their music. Comprised of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde, and drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander, PRIMUS has been rocking out since 1984.

    Most recently, Claypool toured the country with the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade for the first time in 20 years performing Pink Floyd’s Animals in its entirety. 

    “The music of PRIMUS has had a creative influence on me and it is a huge honor to get to share the stage with them,” says COHEED AND CAMBRIA frontman Claudio Sanchez.

These include a show ticket, early entry into the venue, an invitation to the exclusive pre-show Q&A, and a signed VIP tour poster. Fans can buy the Fat Bastard Front Row Super VIP Experience for a seat in the front row of the venue. All VIP Experiences will go on sale on Wednesday, February 21 at 10 a.m. local venue time and will require a password for purchase.

  • Musical Memories Café in West Falls Gains Big Recognition

    Musical Memories Café (MMC) has announced its recognition by ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center as an Innovative and Exemplary Respite Program for three years. As one of only four organizations to receive this recognition in the US, MMC was praised for effectively “supporting multiple generations of caregivers and family, including extended families, of persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.”

    Recognition includes an honorarium, usage of the ARCH logo and registration, travel and hotel costs to attend the National Lifespan Respite Conference in Albany, NY, May 21-23,  2024. Musical Memories Café Executive Director Carolyn Panzica was selected to present at this conference on  “Musical Memories Cafe: Innovation, Impact, Replication, and Sustainability.”  

    In 2014, founders Carolyn and Bill Panzica launched Memory Cafe at the West Falls Center for the Arts. By applying their business and franchising know-how and experience as both caregiver and nonprofit managers, the West Falls Memory Cafe quickly became a thriving nonprofit program. From this success, Carolyn and Bill created Musical Memories Cafe to empower other nonprofits in WNY and beyond.

    Musical Memories Café (MMC) offers a beautiful meal and musical entertainment created especially for caregivers and their loved ones with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia. They enrich lives by collaborating,  inspiring, and educating through music and making an unforgettable experience available to those who truly need it but may not have access. West Falls Performing Arts Center programs include: 1. Musical Memories Café – West Falls Center, 2. Harmonica, ukulele, and guitar lessons for  Military Veterans and their families, and 3. Kids Jam for children and adolescents to learn from and play along with professional musicians.

    There is a growing body of knowledge about the positive impact of music on individuals with   Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

    Carolyn Panzica said, “We hope this recognition will encourage other nonprofits to consider offering a Musical Memories Café in their community. We have seen how this transcendent experience enriches the lives of people with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia and their caregivers. More communities need respite programs that  offer in-person, loving companionship, a therapeutic approach backed by research, and a lasting community  (virtual and in-person) with others facing similar challenges.”  

    ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center is a national organization charged with “assisting and promoting the development of quality respite and crisis care programs in the United States.” 

    Your shared respite model seems especially effective in supporting multiple generations of caregivers and family, including extended  Musical Memories Café Recognition families, of persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The strong evaluation you conduct uses psychometrically sound measurement tools to assess caregiver intensity and caregiver needs and to show positive outcomes for caregivers. Notably, you also use data in a formative way to guide referrals to other  needed services and to tailor day-to-day services according to the needs of individual care recipients and their families.

    Liam Davis just went solo for his brand new single “Comin’ For Gold,” featuring hints of blues, rock, and synth.

    A Cave In Bloom is a three-piece band from Glens Falls, informed by post-punk, indie, new wave, and prog tones. A Cave In Bloom is Joseph Beaty (Vocals and Guitar), Paul Coleman (Bass and Vocals), and Andy Farry (drums). “Bent” off of their self-titled EP is out now.

    ShortWave RadioBand – “Plastic”

    ShortWave RadioBand started as a semi-acoustic duo in late 2019, Lonny Eaton and Andy Scullin performed cover songs for a little more than a year before meeting drummer John Woods. The three quickly learned some more covers to play out with and in 2021, started writing their own songs. They then added Abby Stone on Trumpet and Ryan Shaw on Guitar. “Plastic” is out now.

  • Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival 2024 Announces Initial Lineup

    Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival 2024 has announced its initial lineup, returning to the grounds of Walsh Farm in Oak Hill, NY for another unforgettable retreat of music, magic, and memories from July 17-21.

    The festival’s lineup includes Del McCoury Band, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Steeldrivers, and many more. Dry Branch Fire Squad, the festival’s longtime host, will once again deliver top-notch entertainment and storytelling throughout the weekend, while newly minted artist-in-residence Della Mae appears across several stages. Tony Trischka’s EarlJam: A Tribute to Earl Scruggs, Le Vent du Nord, and Missy Raines and Allegheny are newly added.

    Also appearing at the 24th annual Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival will be GRAMMY-nominated, three-time IBMA-winning all-star female supergroup Sister Sadie, Celtic-rock sensation SCYTHIAN, singer-songwriter and guitarist Charlie Parr, and multi-instrumentalist Brennen Leigh.

    Each year, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival offers a distinct experience unlike any other. Music lovers from every corner of the U.S., Canada, and beyond look forward to savoring the magic of the weekend with its eclectic mix of music and collaborations. With a diverse array of on-site activities including music and dance workshops, family-friendly entertainment,  a songwriting lab, yoga, meditation, and multicultural culinary vendors, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival caters to all ages.

    Grey Fox has also announced its 2024 class of Emerging Artists.   • Garden of Laughs Returns This March With Tracy Morgan, Bill Burr, Michael Che, Jon Stewart, and More

    Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. and the Garden of Dreams Foundation have announced the highly anticipated return of Garden of Laughs – the all-star comedy benefit that has raised more than $6 million for the Foundation.

    This year’s show, hosted by Steve Schirripa from The Sopranos and Blue Bloods, will include sets by newly added Tracy Morgan, Bill Burr, Michael Che, Chris Distefano, Jim Gaffigan, Heather McMahan, Sam Morril, and Jon Stewart, returning to The Theater at Madison Square Garden on March 27, 2024, at 8:00 p.m.

    Morgan, a Garden of Dreams advisory board member, performed at the 2017 Garden of Laughs event, and was a presenter at the 2019 event. He has served as a mentor for the more than 100 children that participate in the annual Talent Show at Radio City Music Hall, one of the Foundation’s tentpole events; and he was the 2022 recipient of the Garden of Dreams Hero Award, which honors organizations or individuals that embody the spirit of the Foundation through an active and ongoing dedication to positively impacting the lives of children facing obstacles, while serving as a driving force and inspiration for others.

    Just announced is the star studded celebrity and athletic presenters that include Victor Cruz, Susie Essman, Edie Falco, Whoopi Goldberg, Doc Gooden, Adam Graves, Henrik Lundqvist, Camryn Manheim, Jill Martin, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, John McEnroe, Chris Meloni, Marc Roberge, CC Sabathia, JB Smoove, John Starks, Ben Stiller, Kenan Thompson, Paul Wesley, and more.

    “I’m so excited that Garden of Laughs is back,” said Steve Schirripa. “I’ve seen firsthand the monumental impact that Garden of Dreams has on the young people and families it serves, and I’m honored to host an event that enables the Foundation to make an immediate and enormous impact on the community.”  

    Garden of Laughs was previously staged in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. All four previous events were sell-outs and raised more than $6 million for the Foundation. Over the years it has featured comedy icons including Sebastian Maniscalco, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and more.

    The Garden of Dreams Foundation is a non-profit organization that works with the MSG Family of Companies – MSG Entertainment, MSG Sports, and Sphere Entertainment – to positively impact the lives of children facing obstacles. The Foundation works with 30 partner organizations throughout the tri-state area, including hospitals, wish organizations, and community-based organizations, brightening the lives of more than 425,000 children and their families.

    Tickets go on sale on Friday, February 16 at 10:00 a.m., with all net proceeds going directly to the Garden of Dreams Foundation. Tickets will also be available at the Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and Beacon Theatre box offices on Saturday, February 17. Please note, the lineup is subject to change.

  • Upstate Films Announces Grand Opening of “The Mark” in Saugerties

    The Hudson Valley will soon have a new world-class venue as Upstate Films has announced the grand opening of The Mark – a brand new screening room above the Orpheum Theatre in Saugerties.

    The Mark is an intimate 99-seat space featuring outstanding sightlines, comfortable seats, and top-of-the-line cinema audio and live sound systems. The theater was designed by the acclaimed acoustic consulting and architectural design firm WSDG, based in Highland, NY. WSDG is one of the world’s leaders in the creation of audio facilities. 

    The Mark’s most notable elements are its acoustics with its Dolby Atmos sound system, engineered with WSDG and cinema specialist Dave Berti, which provides precision sound that envelops the audience, immersing them in the heart of the film. The acoustics in the geometric room are crafted with artisanal care and the latest sound engineering technologies. The live sound system has been designed by WSDG in partnership with Blaze Audio, for outstanding performances. 

    The theater is named in honor of the late Mark Braunstein, the visionary founder of Markertek, a beloved member of the mid-Hudson Valley arts community, and a generous philanthropist. WSDG, led by John Storyk, has previously designed venues and studios for Bruce Springsteen, UCLA, Lincoln Center, Spotify, Jay-Z, MTV, Alicia Keys, NYU, and, at the beginning of Storyk’s career, Jimi Hendrix.

    We are immensely proud to be part of this project. Communities need theaters more than  ever, and this theater will rival professional executive screening rooms anywhere in the nation. This is a  project my dear friend Mark Braunstein would have loved to have supported—he understood the importance of gathering together to celebrate the arts and culture. It is an honor to dedicate our work to Mark.

    Upstate Films was founded in 1972 in Rhinebeck, New York. In the past 51 years, it has provided millions of filmgoers with life-altering, inspiring, and connective experiences, remaining one of the nation’s most prominent rural art-house cinemas. In addition to the Orpheum Theatre, Upstate Films operates the Starr Cinema in Rhinebeck Village, and its touring program has visited Catskill, Kingston, Hudson, Saugerties, Rhinebeck, Kinderhook, and Woodstock.

    “Every community deserves a great gathering place,” said Jason Silverman, co-executive Director of Upstate Films. “The Orpheum has inspired generations of people from our region. The Mark will make a great space even better—we think it’ll be one of the best and most exciting venues to fully experience a movie anywhere. Working with WSDG and John and honoring Mark Braunstein—an extraordinarily generous man— has given this project a lot of soul.”  

    The Orpheum, a central feature of the Main-Partition Streets National Historic District, was built in 1908 as a roller rink, vaudeville house, and community center. It was converted into a movie theater in 1918 and served for a century as the center of communal life for Saugerties. Upstate Films purchased The Orpheum in 2021 and completed its first phase of renovations, including technical, safety, and environmental updates, a new lobby, and a spectacular new audio system in its large theater.

    The Mark’s Grand Opening celebration runs Friday, March 15 through Wednesday, March 20, with a special program exploring the room’s acoustics on Wednesday, April 10. The festivities include three open house events featuring Atmos short films and free refreshments, a silent film with live accompaniment, comedy, the launch of “All Singing, All Dancing,” (a new series of classic musicals), and new and classic Atmos films. 

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15 at the Orpheum, 200 Main Street, Saugerties. For more information, visit here.

  • Chromeo World Tour Stops by Terminal 5 This Fall

    Chromeo—the GRAMMY-nominated duo of Montreal natives David “Dave 1” Macklovitch and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel–have announced they will embark on a North American co-headline tour with The Midnight this fall, stopping at Terminal 5 on Oct. 4.

    After almost two decades of shiny synths and sharp lyrics, Chromeo has set themselves apart as dedicated scholars of the groove, proving time and again that no one does it quite like them. Across their five critically acclaimed LPs, Dave 1 and P-Thugg established an irresistible electrofunk sound. Together, the inseparable friends have toured the world over, perfecting a musical and visual language that is now instantly recognizable and more refined.

    Chromeo’s long-awaited, sixth studio album, Adult Contemporary, is out this Friday, February 16. Across the record’s 14 tracks, the duo explores what it means to be funky in your 30s and 40s, offering the most sophisticated version of the infectious grooves and cheeky wordplay they’ve become known for. Already receiving critical acclaim, FLAUNT praises: “P-Thugg and Dave 1 have one of those unique creative partnerships that bears the most wonderful kind of fruit: that evergreen, ever-juicy groove.”

    Chromeo debuted the new music in live performances last year, first at Coachella and then on their FUNK YOURSELF Tour, their first headline run in five years. Synthwave duo The Midnight will join Chromeo on the North American fall run. The band—helmed by Tyler Lyle and Tim McEwan—lives at the intersection of varying sounds, driven by the frictional spark that fires when the two melt together.

    They will be joined this fall by special guests Ruth Radelet and Girl Ultra. Ruth Radelet is best known as the lead singer in the seminal electronic band Chromatics. Her solo material expands her sonic palette with hypnotic vocals and dreamy atmospheres. Girl Ultra is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and creative director.

    Presale for all North American dates (US, Canada, Mexico) begins Wednesday, February 14 at 10 a.m. local time, with general on sale Thursday, February 15.

  • The Listen Up Awards Return in March

    The Listen Up Awards will be returning for its third installment on March 24, 2024. Hosted by Putnam Place, doors open at 2 p.m. for this unique Capital District awards event.

    The Listen Up Awards have been successful for the past two years. Chosen by the people, the nominees are an accumulation of local favorites, with nearly 39,000 votes cast last year. Created by Mirth Films and Radio Radio X, the award show is different from others in that they don’t take themselves too seriously but they do seriously support the local music scene. Like a Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award, they promote fun.

    The performers are all winners from the previous year but they do not allow musicians/bands/artists to be nominated two consecutive years in a row in the same category. This will give more chances to those who can be entered into nomination for future ceremonies. Performers this year include Sly Fox and The Hustlers, North Allen Duo, The E-Block, and Black Cat Elliot.

    Every year the Listen Up Awards take the time to honor notable people from the local music scene who have made a real difference in the community. Last year they presented “Hero Awards” to Howard Glassman, Mother Judge, Scott Dorrance, and Josh Bloomfield.   • Pearl Jam Announce New Album ‘Dark Matter’ and Tour with Two Dates at MSG

    Pearl Jam has announced the release of the 12th studio album Dark Matter, coming on April 19, 2024, and the launch of a 35-date worldwide tour this May. The band will go to Madison Square Garden on September 3 and September 4, 2024.

    Pearl Jam is an alternative rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The band’s lineup consists of bassist Jeff Ament, rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard, lead guitarist Mike McCready, lead singer/guitarist Eddie Vedder, and drummer Matt Cameron. With thirty-plus years of live performances, twelve studio albums, and hundreds of official live concert bootleg releases later, Pearl Jam continues to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful. The band has sold over 85 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

    Since the earliest days, they have used their platform to elevate people and causes that often go unnoticed. Much of the band’s philanthropic work is accomplished through its Vitalogy Foundation which to date has raised more than $50 million for organizations supporting issues such as abortion access, climate change, homelessness, and drawing attention to the fight against diseases such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis and epidermolysis bullosa (EB). In addition to the money Vitalogy donates, the band also donates signed instruments, posters, and merchandise to organizations to use for their fundraising purposes.

    In 2023, the band went to La Studios in Malibu where they simply plugged in and played with producer Andrew Watt. The musicians faced one another in the same space and communicated sonically at the highest level, producing Dark Matter in just three weeks. As a result, the album channels the shared spirit of a group of lifelong creative confidants and brothers in one room playing as if their very lives depended on it.

    I’m getting chills, because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.

    The LOVE ROCKS NYC 2024 benefit concert for God’s Love We Deliver has announced its star-studded lineup – happening live from the historic Beacon Theatre on Thursday, March 7.

    LOVE ROCKS NYC launched in 2017, and has since raised more than $30 million to date and helped fund more than three million meals for New Yorkers in need. The benefit concert highlights God’s Love We Deliver’s mission of providing meals and nutrition counseling for people living with severe illness in the New York Metropolitan area. The not-for-profit was founded in 1985 as a response to the AIDS pandemic, now serving people living with more than 200 different diagnoses, home-delivering more than four million medically tailored meals to more than 14,700 individuals last year.

    The concert is executive produced by iconic international fashion designer John Varvatos, NYC Douglas Elliman real estate broker and prominent concert producer Greg Williamson, and esteemed concert/events producer Nicole Rechter and is hosted by Conan O’Brien, Tracy Morgan, and Jim Gaffigan.

    For the eighth anniversary, the LOVE ROCKS NYC 2024 all-star lineup, led by Music Director and Band Leader Will Lee (The CBS Orchestra), will feature The Black Keys, Hozier, Nile Rodgers, Tom Morello, Don Felder, Bettye Lavette, Joss Stone, Allison Russell, Emily King, Marcus King, Lucius, Larkin Poe, Trombone Shorty, Luke Spiller (The Struts), Quinn Sullivan, Bernie Williams and more announced soon.
