  • Glenn Hughes to Perform Classic Hits on Tour with Yngwie Malmsteen

    Former bassist and singer of Deep Purple Glenn Hughes, known to millions as the ‘Voice of Rock,’ a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the front man for rock super group Black Country Communion, has just announced a tour devoted to celebrating music from BURN and other classic hits from Deep Purple’s rich back catalog – during a tour that will mostly see Hughes co-headlining with notable guitarist Yngqie Malmsteen. The tour across the U.S. will stop in several cities across New York, including Hudson Falls, Poughkeepsie, and New York City.


    Billed as “Glenn Hughes Performs The 50th Anniversary of Deep Purple’s BURN Live”, Hughes will perform classic hits from the legendary album, and the addition of Deep Purple MKIII and MKIV songs. Glenn’s band will feature Soren Andersen (guitar), Ash Sheehan (drums) and Ed Roth (keyboards).

    “It was 50 years ago, in the summer of 1973, that the BURN album by Deep Purple was written at Clearwell castle in Gloucestershire UK,” reminisces Hughes. “It was recorded in October in Montreux, Switzerland.”

    Continues Hughes, “We all became one in this centuries old castle in the UK countryside, it felt like Deep were a new band, with David (Coverdale) and I as new members, we couldn’t wait to start working on new song. The atmosphere was electric, in such amazing surroundings.”

    “All the songs on Burn were written in the crypt/dungeon, underneath the great hall. We worked on a new song every day, and we were in the flow. Musically we would play, and work out ideas, and David and I would come up with vocal melodies that would later have lyrics. I remember it like it was yesterday.”

    “As you could imagine, Ritchie Blackmore was in full prankster mode, Jon had warned me, and he rigged my room one night with a speaker that was hidden, and had ghostly voices delivered to my bedside.”

    “The title track was the last song to be written. We came back from the pub, and went down into the crypt, and magic happened.”

    Concludes Hughes, “It’s time to celebrate BURN, and I’m really looking forward to seeing you!”

    Glenn Hughes Biography

    Glenn Hughes is an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the MK 3 line up of Deep Purple.  He spent the formative years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of the group and performed on the classic albums Burn (1974), Stormbringer (1974) and Come Taste The Band (1975).

    The vocalist/bass guitarist/songwriter is a true original. No other rock musician has carved such a distinctive style blending the finest elements of hard rock, soul and funk. Stevie Wonder once called Hughes his favorite white singer.  The first important band Hughes was a member of that achieved notable success was Trapeze.

    In 1973, Hughes joined Deep Purple. The trailblazing hard-rock legends had just weathered the departure of vocalist Ian Gillan and bass guitarist Roger Glover, but guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice continued with the addition of Hughes and David Coverdale.

    Since 1992, Hughes has toured extensively in Europe, Japan, and South America in support of solo albums.  He’s recorded four studio albums with the multi-award-winning supergroup Black Country Communion featuring guitarist Joe Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and drummer Jason Bonham, son of the late Led Zeppelin legend John Bonham.

    In 2016 he released his critically acclaimed solo album Resonate featuring the rock radio hit “Heavy” and in 2017 he released Black Country Communion’s fourth studio album BCCIV to ecstatic reviews.

    In 2019, Glenn joined the Dead Daises as their lead singer and bass guitarist, recorded two albums, Holy Ground (2021) and Radiance (2022) and toured the world.

  • Elysium Furnace Works to Welcome Eugene Chadbourne and Jim McHugh in Poughkeepsie

    The co-led, cooperative NY music project, Elysium Furnace Works is set to welcome the legendary creative forces Eugene Chadbourne and Jim McHugh in the Fall. The duo will perform at the VBI Theatre of Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie on Sept. 14 at 8:00 PM.

    Although this performance will not be the first time that the artists have performed as a dynamic duo, the musicians are both stars in their own right. Chadbourne is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, author, and all-around creative artist having performed on over 358 albums with artists ranging from John Zorn and Jello Biafra to the Violent Femmes and Camper Van Beethoven. His genre knows no bounds, originally exploring the conventions of rock and pop and later switching over to the bottleneck blues. On the other hand, McHugh took to rock music and stuck there, being an essential part of the New York City-based ensemble The Sunwatchers. The artist himself is an incredibly talented guitarist and vocalist whose contributions have shaped the band’s sound.

    Together, the pair is unmatched, from their intimate live performances to their nine-track record Bad Scene released back in 2021. Eugene Chadbourne and Jim McHugh’s performance scheduled for Sept. 14 will see the duo perform original music, covers, and so much more. Interested parties can get their tickets here.

  • The Catamount Resort Summer Series Continues In August

    The Catamount Resort Summer Series is wrapping up a jam-packed season of programming with three shows in August. Taking place over multiple weeks, the series started back on July 7 and will run until August 18. Each concert takes place on Friday from 4:30pm to 8:00pm at Catamount Mountain Resort in Hillsdale. 

    Boasting a lineup of local and regional bands, the Catamount Resort Summer Series looks to bring quality music to the beautiful Taconic Mountains. Past performers from this year include Sister Funk, Hedtrip, and Eric Harpe and the Delta Swingers. 

    Along with music, the series will also have a variety of tasty food and drink options. Organizers encourage guests to bring their own lawn chair however there are picnic tables available at the venue. Multiple of the resort’s outdoors activities will also operate with extended hours during the series, including a Zip Tour, Aerial Adventure Park, and Scenic Chairlift Rides.

    Aug. 4- The Silver Chain Band

    Based out of Albany, The Silver Chain Band has performed across the country. From playing gigs at local New York hotspots to rocking venues down in Memphis, the group delivers impassioned performances wherever they are. Silver Chain builds on a solid foundation of Blues Folk, with elements of electric blues, and a sprinkle of rock. Their music is influenced by ZZ Top, Sonny Boy Williamson, JR Wells, Paul Butterfield, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddy King, Albert King, and Bill Perry, just to name a few.

    Aug. 11- Victrola

    Led by vocalist Victoria Palagy, Victrola is known for their creative covers of pop, rock, and blues tracks. Victoria is joined onstage with Ray Palagy, Patti Richardson, John Keane and Leo Brennan Jr. 

    Aug. 18- The Saints

    The Saints are an experienced band that has been together for 25 years. The group loves to get the crowd moving with feel-good dance music. Perfect for the summer months, enjoy the Saints as they close out The Catamount Resort Summer Series.

  • The Phoenix Festival Returns For A Second Year Of Programming

    The Phoenix Theatre Ensemble revealed its lineup for its second annual Phoenix Festival, set to run from Sept. 28 to Oct. 21. The event will feature an engaging mixture of live theater, dance, music, and arts. Phoenix Festival includes 30 performances and will take place on multiple indoor and outdoor stages in Nyack, New York. 

    Founded in 2004, Phoenix Theatre Ensemble is a nonprofit theatre ensemble producing in New York City and Nyack. Phoenix Festival is aimed at celebrating classical theater, music, local culture, and the creative spirit of the Nyack community. 

    Festival venues include the tented outdoor meadow stage at Marydell Faith and Life Center, the garden at Hopper House, the Nyack Center, the ‘little theater’ at Nyack’s RCC Culinary Arts Center, Maureen’s Jazz Cellar and Nyack’s classic restaurant the Hudson House. The festival boasts a diverse set of programming with something for all ages and interests.

    This year’s performances range from classic theatrical shows like Crime and Punishment and Now I am Alone, to stand-up poetry, and even an augmented reality tour. One of Phoenix Festival’s most innovative and creative performances is Pan and The Lost Boys. The show combines theater and dance to examine Black masculinity through hip-hop. Stemming from the killings of Tamir Rice, George Floyd, etc; Pan looks at the impacts of these events on the health, wellness, and growth of young black men in America.

  • In Focus: Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival 2023

    The sounds of laughter, bluegrass music and chatter filled the air at the Walsh Farm in Oak Hill, NY over July 12-16. The Grey Fox Bluegrass Music Festival 2023 was in full swing celebrating another year of this family friendly festival.

    The festival hosted a wonderful selection of artists over the 4 day event. Those artists took to the stages and captivated the audiences with their music and stories. There were many vendors which offered a wide variety of items, food and drinks.

    Grey Fox also had fundraising raffles, workshops and a wonderful program geared towards kids. The Bluegrass Academy for kids takes place during the festival teaches children of all skill levels how to play instruments. They end the festival with a performance of their own. 

    Shuttle buses ran regularly throughout the day to assist festival patrons to navigate the large space whether you need a lift up the hill, a ride to the camp areas, and to one of the parking areas down the road. The festival is set up with street names which helped with navigating but also added the sense of community, which was clearly seen throughout the entire event.

  • Nick Balzano of LI Jam Scene Announces Watkins Jam Lineup

    Nick Balzano of the LI Jam Scene has announced his new venture Watkins Jam, taking place July 28-30 at various places in the state, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the famous Watkins Glen Summer Jam.

    Nick Balzano has performed in many bands over the years, with his love for music starting at a young age with drums and piano. For the past ten years, he has been the vocalist and performed multiple instruments in LI Jam Scene. He has also put on many events over the years with companies and venues like Liquid Shadows Entertainment, 89 North, and more, and has always strived to give artists the fair shake and audience they deserve. His newest project, Pine Barrens Jam, hopes to showcase Long Island’s creative talent for years to come.

    Now, Balzano is celebrating the anniversary of the Watkins Glen Summer Jam, which featured The Band, Grateful Dead, and The Allman Brothers Band. On creating the tribute shows, he said “[they] have been some of my biggest inspirations and I’m sure the rest of the members of this project can say the same. The songs, drumming styles, and even the communities they’ve created have had a huge influence on the path I’ve chosen as a musician.”  When putting together the lineup, he specifically chose bands and artists who were also inspired by the three legendary acts.

    The tribute shows take place on July 28 at Deep Dive in Ithaca, July 29 at Courtyard in Rosecoe, and July 30 at LI Glass in Holtsville. The lineup is comprised of various supergroups taking on each band’s eclectic catalog. Whaley will be presenting a set of The Band with the help of Damien Pagan of Funkin A’/Albums We Love on Long Island. The Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead sets will feature John & Rob from Ernie & The Band, as well as Damien & other guests. The original drummer from Balzano’s time in A Band In Ship, Ryan McCloskey, will be joining for The Allman Brothers set for the Upstate dates and Jager Soss of Baked Shrimp will be holding down the second kit on Long Island.

    Greenville Summer Concert Series

    The Greenville Summer Concert Series is a free, family-friendly concert series that happens Tuesdays from 6–7:30 PM at Veterans Park in Greenville, New York. The concerts are held at the intersection of Routes 32 and 81. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, pack a picnic, or buy dinner from Church Street Caterers. The kickoff event features the Michael Benedict Quartet and ice cream from Stewart’s Shops of Greenville. Other acts include Lustre Kings, Moonshine Mule, Dusk Til Dawn, and more.   • 33rd Annual Delaware Valley Riverfest Returns To Narrowsburg

    With the final weekends of July fast approaching, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance is rearing to share the 2023 edition of their highly anticipated Riverfest before the month is through. The vibrant street festival will take place on July 23rd from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Main Street of Narrowsburg, NY in order to celebrate ecology, art, summer, and most of all – music.

    Riverfest will kick off right at 10:00 AM with an ultimate crowd favorite – River Dogs On Parade, giving pet owners the chance to showcase mans best friend to a panel of judges and an adoring audience. An hour following the take over by the furry creatures, the Kids’ Tent will be available to people of all ages, allowing children with active minds and creative souls to be guided by Narrowsburg’s own teaching artist, Catherine Chesters, in creating colorful Riverfest Art Posters.

    For those in search of the promised musical acts, live performances will also begin at 11:00 AM on the Riverfest Main Stage. Madárka will start off the morning taking listeners on a journey of worldly music as the band works to blend traditional Eastern European styles through centuries and borders. Later in the afternoon, beginning at 2:00 PM, Hollywood Herb & 7he 7eam will take the stage calling on countless icons from The Beatles to Lil Wayne. The genre bending rock, rap, and pop band offers a unique blend that bridges genres and is sure to please music lovers of all ages.

    The live music will be temporarily interrupted around 1:00 PM by the anxiously awaited Riverfest Poster Auction that will take over the main stage and feature nearly fifty one-of-a-kind posters created by local artists. In addition to live music, K9’s of all shapes and sizes, posters, and delicious food truck vendors, the festival will feature an all day long Makers Market in which over forty Artisan Market Booths will display a wide range of handcrafted goods including jewelry, clothing, paintings, and more.

    From morning until night, there will be something for all ages to enjoy at this years’ Riverfest!

  • White Feather Farm in Saugerties To Host Soil Fest

    Starting July 21, visitors to White Feather Farm in Saugerties can expect to take part in the second annual Soil Fest, a three day celebration of soil. The second annual festival includes live performances, workshops and food intersecting art, science and ecology.

    The host of Soil Fest, White Feather Farm, located in Saugerties takes place at White Feather Farm, which “aims to create connection between community, culture, and land,” according to their website, They do so by advancing, and promoting education about, “sustainable farming and other food production, distribution and consumption techniques and practices that reduce climate change and create healthy soil and a vibrant ecosystem.” They also showcase local talent, artists, writers and experts.

    Soil Fest Events

    Soil Fest kicks off Friday, July 21 and continues through Sunday, July 23. The first event begins at 2:00 pm Friday, called “Sensory Kinship of the 3rd Kind.” This workshop will be led by Lisa Schonberg and Allie Wist. The two will conduct a series of exercises using multi-sensory means of communication, like smell, taste and sound. Later that day, Schonberg will also host a performance of percussion and electronic music featuring and responding to soil soundscapes.

    On Saturday, Soil Fest attendees have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. Some of these include a chromatography workshop, a carbon sponge workshop, and alternative grain beer tasting. There will also be food available from a locally owned and operated mobile catering company, From the Ground Up.

    Additionally, Saturday night will feature a live performance by the band Dust Bowl Faeries. They are a New York based cabaret-inspired indie rock band. Described as a “faerie-tale fusion of gothic polka, dark carnival and angsty folk music,” they draw inspiration from circus songs, murder ballads, vaudeville, jazz and klezmer music.

    On the third day of Soil Fest, attendees can participate in workshops where they make easy to ferment foods with harvest from White Feather Farm. There is also a workshop entitled “Drawing with Biochar,” where participants choose among various sizes and types of wood to make a set of charcoal drawing sticks.

    Finally, Soil Fest closes with a live performance of “Arm of the Sea: Riparian Rhapsody.” Arm of the Sea is a mask and puppet theater that combines art, ecology and social action. The “Riparian Rhapsody” performance explores Catskill ecology to reveal the intricate interactions between forest and stream, while it lyrically makes the case for protecting streamside buffer zones.

  • Drom30 Festival in Hudson Valley Announces Eclectic Lineup

    Dromedary Records has announced Drom30, a weekend-long celebration of independent rock in the beautiful Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains of New York, from Sept. 15-17.

    Initially brought up as a party to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Kingston micro-indie Dromedary Records, the idea evolved into a greater event.

    As more and more bands got involved, it really started to look more like a celebration of the entire community of independent rock music, and the many of us who’ve kept our toes in this water for a really long time. Some of the artists have released records with Dromedary, some have been long-time friends, and some have been artists we’ve admired from afar. We’re all going to get together in the Hudson Valley and have a big,
    weekend-long party, hopefully feel like kids again, and celebrate this amazing community of artists we’re so proud to be a part of.

    “We hope people plan to come out to the party and enjoy the Hudson Valley for the weekend,” explained Crisafulli, “It’s a great lineup, an excellent blend of indie rock royalty, and great bands that haven’t played together in years, and younger bands that wear their 90s indie rock influences on their sleeve.” The lineup includes a number of musical luminaries, standout DJs, and some of the most important figures in the history of indie rock. Longtime Dromedary artists and collaborators Cathedral Ceilings, The Mommyheads, Stuyvesant, Joy Cleaner, Civic Mimic, Speed the Plough, and Guy Capecelatro III will perform. Each day’s events will be headlined by indie rock legends Yung Wu, Lotion, and Das Damen, three artists who seldom perform live.
