On June 14, Punk Island NYC announced that they had to reduce the number of stages for their upcoming “Quinceañera” festival from five to three at the American Veteran’s Memorial Pier in Brooklyn due to circumstances out of their control. Though their stages have been reduced, Punk Island has retained 75% of their lineup, and the free event is still to be on June 18.
Punk Island is a community of punks who love music, musicians, fans, friends, and family. They aim to bring the vitality, diversity, and intensity of the NYC punk scene into the light of day. These efforts have culminated annually for the past 15 years, as free, all-ages music festivals.
While they tried to explore alternatives to allow all the bands to play, their efforts were rejected. Punk Island was forced to cut bands from the roster, all of which have been contacted. The organization is currently unable to provide specific details on the situation, but are willing to have in-person or over the phone discussions with those that may need further clarification.
None of these cuts were made lightly. We deeply apologize for this unfortunate situation. We made every effort to maintain the event in its original form, but ultimately, our influence is limited.… To the bands that were dropped from the lineup, we want to assure you that your participation is secured for next year’s event.
The Catskill Mountain Jubilee 2023 lineup has been announced, returning to Blackthorne Resort in East Durham from Aug. 10-12.
The Catskill Mountain Jubilee 2023 features three nights of music, with two full performances from The Disco Biscuits, Melvin Seals with Karl Denson, and many more. Returning for the third year in a row, the event will take place from Aug. 10-12 at Blackthorne Resort in East Durham. In a recent announcement, new performers added to the lineup include two sets by Twiddle, BlueStar Radiation featuring Lotus’ Tim Palmieri with Rob Derhak, Nate Wilson and Vinnie Amico from moe., Mihali (solo), Sophistafunk, The Englishtown Project, Ben Silver & Allen Aucoin, Gratefully Yours and many more. Other performers include Dogs in a Pile, Desert Dwellers, Space Bacon, Beg Steal or Borrow, Rose Ganache, Eugene Tyler Band, The Laura Leigh Band, Hilltop, Newpy Hundo, Leila, SMInk, and more.
The NY Harvest Festival & Freedom Fair are returning to Ithaca for the 26th straight year of celebrating music, arts, and cannabis culture. Taking place October 6-9, 2023 at the Trumansburg Fairgrounds, attendees will get to experience a packed musical lineup along with interactions with local cannabis companies.

Featuring multiple stages, fine art displays, street vendors, workshops, activist & educational speakers, a farmers market, onsite camping, and many more activities, the NY Harvest Festival expects to embody the connection between cannabis and music.
On Friday, October 6, the headliner event features two sets of Dogs in a Pile, whose exploratory music blends psychedelia, jazz, fusion, funk, traditional, and rock n roll. Performing their first-ever festival show here years ago, Dogs in a Pile returns to put on yet another unforgettable showing.
Saturday, October 7th’s lineup will additionally feature more local New York talent, as Sophistafunk, The Garcia Project, Gratefully Yours, and special guest Immortal Technique will all take the stage.
Other artists anticipating performances at the event include The Tyler Neal Band, Tony Vacca & World Rhythms, EARTH, The Cosmic Charlies, and so many other up-and-coming local talents.
Lastly, the festival’s main event, the Cannabis Cup, takes place Sunday, October 8 at 4:20 pm, and festival producer and veteran NY cannabis activist Rob Robinson will be the host. Known as America’s longest-running cannabis cup, everyone over 21 that wants to be, gets the opportunity to be a judge.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) has announced the second annual Summer for the City, the ultimate New York festival.
Over three months, Lincoln Center turns its campus into a summer festival. It features hundreds of free events, thousands of artists and food from across the city, inviting New Yorkers of all kinds to come together and celebrate the city’s vibrant communities through the arts.
“We are blessed to be in the heart of the most diverse city in the world, and to have sixteen acres of outdoor space to celebrate the magic of this bustling global city,” Shanta Thake, Ehrenkranz Chief Artistic Officer of LCPA said. “This summer builds on a city reimagining itself—finding hope in community, and planting seeds for the future. Over three months, we welcome all New Yorkers to come dance, love, and celebrate together with long-standing traditions of social dance and classical music, and new traditions like our wedding for hundreds of couples, and a ‘second line’ processional to honor lives lost.”
Summer of the City Events
Summer for the City honors New York’s multifaceted communities with dynamic new works and reimagined classics. This includes a week-long celebration of Korean cultural traditions during Korean Arts Week, the New York City premiere of Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, the return of the BAAND Together Dance Festival, globalFEST, Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra concerts. Furthermore, it will all culminate in a week-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop with performances by J. PERIOD, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, a trap choir, and more. The summer also shines a light on accessibility and disability artistry, with Big Umbrella Day, the return of Deaf Broadway, and a series of events curated by disability artistry guest curator Kevin Gotkin.
This season builds on the successes of last year’s inaugural Summer for the City. The event brought all of Lincoln Center’s summer festivals under one collective banner, welcoming New Yorkers back together after so much time apart. The inaugural Summer for the City season served an audience of over 300,000 on campus. More than three quarters of these people had never before reserved a ticket to a Lincoln Center presentation.

In recent years, Lincoln Center has expanded its role as an artistic and civic cornerstone. It hosted dozens of blood drives, food distributions, graduations, and serving as a polling place, core to its broader commitment to the city and a statement of confidence in its enduring vitality.

A team of curators programmed the 2023 edition of Summer for the City. Additionally, it centers artists and art forms historically underrepresented on campus and welcome wider audiences and communities. Events throughout the summer are inclusively designed. They integrate access needs with a range of accommodations for all performances. This includes ASL interpretation, audio description, live captioning, haptic suits, and more.. The 2023 edition of Robert DeNiro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff’s Tribeca Festival (formerly Tribeca Film Festival) began this past Wednesday, June 7th.
This event that highlights films, games, television, and music kicked off with the premiere of Kiss The Future, directed by Nenad Cicin-Sain, with producers: Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Sarah Anthony.
Tribeca Festival 2023 received a record-high of 12,000 submissions, ultimately narrowing it down to 109 feature films, 76 shorts, and over 20 interactive experiences and games.

This interactive VR experience focuses on the four immortal children of the recently passed creator god, Bathala and their all-powerful actions that create ripples throughout the universe.
It was a great journey exploring the Philippine mythology that inspired it and the rich character narrative. The experience’s booth also featured models of the characters from the short.

Returning for its 17th year, the annual Pleasantville Music Festival has announced its lineup for the festival on Saturday, July 8, 2023. The main headliner for the event is They Might Be Giants, famous for “Birdhouse in Your Soul” and their version of “Istanbul (Not Constantinople).”
Also known as “New York’s Backyard Jam,” the Pleasantville Music Festival is sponsored by Northwell Health. Beyond music, there is local food and drink, a beer and wine garden, and a “Kids Fun Zone.” The event is a zero-waste program and will be held in Parkway Field in Pleasantville, NY. Bands are split between the Main Stage, the Chill Tent Stage, and the Party Stage.
Main Stage
They Might Be Giants is headlining both the festival and the Main Stage, with the alternative rock band from Brooklyn performing for over 35 years. Allman Betts Band is also playing on the main stage, a legacy band of the Allman Brothers. Another performer for the Main Stage is Allison Ponthier, who fuses many different musical flavors into a blend of upbeat, soul-baring, pop songs.
Other bands playing on the Main Stage include Blac Rabbit; Smooch with Matt Crossett; and Summer Fling, who is kicking off performances on the Main Stage. Summer Fling was also the winner of this year’s Battle of the Bands competition with the Pleasantville Music Festival.
Chill Tent Stage
Sophie B. Hawkins is the headliner for the Chill Tent Stage, known through her ’90s hits “Damn, Wish I Was Your Lover” and “As I Lay Me Down.” She is a Grammy-nominated and platinum-selling artist. Opening for the Chill Tent Stage is Ursula Hansberry, winner of the Chill Tent Battle of the Bands competition.
The Chill Tent Stage will also feature Pete Francis; Dave Casale; Petey Hop; The Moonrise Cartel; and Brandi and the Alexanders.
Party Stage
Headlining the Party Stage is The Criticals, a rock band out of Nashville. Hunter Road is opening for the Party Stage, another Battle of the Bands winner. Other performers include: Strange Neighbors; Moonunitt; SunDub; and Social Creatures.
Historic Hemlock Fairground located in the town of Hemlock, just 40 minutes south of Rochester, will host the annual Upstate Boogie Festival over June 9-11, 2023. The three day and night live music and art festival includes camping, regional and local live bands on two stages, plus vendors from the Finger Lakes and beyond.
Livingston Country’s Hemlock Fairground is a national historic district and fairground, a notable landmark thanks to the racetrack and covered grandstand constructed in 1870. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Hemlock Fair has been held for over 150 years.
Tent and car camping available to Upstate Boogie ticket-holders, and for family camping, LITTLEVILLE will provide plenty of room for kids to play, right in the center of it all. Re-entry is available for those who are local and purchase a non-camping weekend pass. RV Camping is available at limited electric sites, for an extra charge. Indoor bathrooms are open 24 hours throughout the event with showers open dawn to dusk

Get to know the artists of Upstate Boogies
Schleigho has been a nationally touring jazz-fusion band since the early 1990’s and have released 5 CD’s, playing regularly at clubs and theaters up and down the east-coast, mid- west and west coast over the mid ’90’s and early 2000’s. Instrumental, energetic, raw and at times down-right sinister. Down from roughly 200 shows a year at the turn of the millennium, don’t miss Schleigho if they are in your neck of the woods. This is one of their few scheduled dates so far for their 30th anniversary in 2023.
Herbal Tonic is a WNY feel good jam band, infused with island reggae, blues, and funk, and will surely have you out on the dancefloor craving for more!
St. Vith is a Finger Lakes eclectic indie rock band whose sound is a mural of psychedelic jam, art rock and time honored American styles.
Grub is a Psych Rock group based out of Niagara Falls. This multi-genre trio is capable of delivering funk-driven madness, improvisational bliss, and shoe-gazing glitch-o-matic electronic soundscapes. A live Grub performance showcases their original tunes as well as their improvisational chops, while captivating the crowd by teasing dancable and nostalgic covers from past decades.
High Pines is a union of smooth grooves, contemporary funk, and neo-psychedelic explorations that evolve with each performance. A fusion of jazz appreciation and rock spirit, complimented by enchanting harmonies, creates music for your mind, body and soul.
Diggin Roots Band plays an eclectic mix of music inspired by the various forms of American Roots Music including Blues, Funk, Rock n Roll, Soul, R&B, Bluegrass, and Gospel. Some songs may blend multiple genres together into a coherent sound while others might hang on firmly to a specific style.
Nick LeDuc is an original artist hailing from Ogdensburg NY, playing a unique style of Refined Rock-groove to tantalize your ears and tickle your fancy. Combining classic guitar styles and intoxicating rhthyms, accented by his unique vocal style, Nick is one of the freshest sounds heard on the music scene in a very long time. From funk to blues, and rock to folk there’s a little something in between all of it that comes to make up the sound Nick LeDuc projects live or in studio.
Judah is a four piece rock band from Rochester that has turned heads since their outset as high schoolers a few years back. Blending a soulful mix of rock and blues, Judah has expanded their touring around WNY and the Finger Lakes.
The Midnight Sconce are Rochester’s next jamband that you will soon hear more about. These guys catch the groove and delivery, expect high energy jams and plenty of fun!

The Geneva Music Festival was back in full swing on Sunday, May 21, with a performance from the Iris Trio at Hobart & William Smith Colleges. In addition, three more concerts took place in the month of May, as ATLYS will take the stage on the 25th at Ravine’s Wine Cellars and Legends and Fairy Tales on the 26th and 27th at Hobart & William Smith.
For the past several weeks, The Geneva Music Festival has been delighting audiences with concerts performed by world-class talent from the chamber music scene and beyond. The season concludes this coming Sunday, June 11 following daily concerts starting June 8.
June 8 at 7:30pm, come hear the Jason Clayborn Band perform at the Cracker Factory for an ebullient night of R&B and Soul. The Grammy-nominated singer will be joined by soprano Kimberly Salter, alto Tiera Dunn, and tenor Walter Malone III, and band members Gabriel Hatcher II, main keyboard and musical director; Willie Robinson, bass; and Lacy Comer, drums. The band will perform selections from their repertoire of hits, and audience members will be welcomed to sing along.
On June 9 and 10, GMF artists-in-residence will perform “In Concordia”, the final chamber music concert of the season. Clive Greensmith, cello; Anna Petrova, piano; Geoffrey Herd, violin; Hannah Collins, cello; Clara Lyon, violin; and Tanner Menees, viola will perform works by Bach, Haydn, Elgar, and Kodaly. In keeping with this year’s festival theme, the concert will be focused on musical and spiritual harmony, featuring works that showcase transpositions of hymns and chorales. Greensmith shared his interpretation of how the festival theme of “Gods, Myths, and the Divine” connects to the concert experience: “A concert for me is an offering, a communion between composer, performer and the audience. There should be a sense of ritual, a reverence for the music, and a sense of heightened sensitivity as we listen and respond to the voice of the composer. Each performance will be different, but in every case, one is hoping to get as close as possible to the deeper meaning behind each work. In the same way that a religious experience can speak to us, to inspire, provoke or enlighten us, a concert can do something similar. Music can also heal us, it can console us and the act of listening together, focused solely on one idea, this can bring a community together in a very meaningful way.”
And finally, the Festival will conclude with a matinee concert at Geneva on the Lake by Finger Lakes-based trio The Brothers Blue. At 2pm on Sunday June 11, Matthew Sperber, guitar, bass; Benny Haravitch, banjo, bass, guitar; and Charlie Coughlin, fiddle, mandolin will perform original compositions that draw influence and inspiration from country, bluegrass, Cajun, and Irish music. Heading into its 13th campaign, the four-week event looks to bring together some of the region’s top musicians and connect the community through musical expression, and from May 21 to June 11, many different groups and artists will come through Upstate New York to do just that.
Every year, the concert series announces its own theme to circulate around it, with this year being titled “God, Myths, and the Divine.” This unique 2023 theme centers around human connection and interaction with the divine, maintaining a diverse set of musical styles and cultures.
With that being said, “God, Myths, and the Divine” hones in on traditions of older classical music. A majority of Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schuman’s works are incorporated into ATLYS and other bands performing throughout the festival.
The Performers On The Theme
Exploring the present and past of music is something, violinist Max Geissler, a member of the program, prepares to welcome those who will be in attendance and praises the program’s thematic choices.
“This season really gives us the opportunity to not only learn of these cultural backgrounds, but to experiment with the unique ways in which music can convey narrative and spirituality. These programs contain so many different approaches to expressing a story, and it’s interesting to consider how music as a medium has the ability to make these legends and philosophies much more vivid.”

Opening headliner the Iris Trio also looks forward to being a part of the Geneva Music Festival. Their performance for the concert titled “Project Earth” focuses on raising awareness about the environment, an important focal point in today’s society.
“Project Earth” is the Iris Trio’s response to the enormous crisis currently facing our planet,” the Trio said. Through chamber music and poetry, the project strives to illuminate the impact of human behavior on the environment, addressing issues of climate change, pollution, habitat degradation, and biodiversity loss.”

With Iris Trio getting ready to kick things off on May 21, tickets will be selling fast. All tickets to each in-person concert or live stream option are $35 for adults, $10 for college students with IDs, and free for Grade 12 and under. The adult season passes for all eight concerts in the GMF are $240.
As a bonus, ATLYS will also be performing at a free pop-up concert Tuesday, May 23 at 7:00 pm at Geneva LakeFront Gazebo, in addition to their performance on May 25.

Beacon’s Sloop Club will be holding their annual, family-friendly Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 11. With free admission, the Strawberry Festival promises food, fruit, vendors, educational activities, and live music right on the shores of the Hudson River.
The Beacon Sloop Club is a volunteer organization originally founded by folk singer and activist Pete Seeger. Through advocacy, education and celebration, the Beacon Sloop Club has dedicated itself to the preservation, protection and restoration of the Hudson River. They hold free music festivals throughout the year, such as the Strawberry Festival, the Corn Festival, and the Pumpkin Festival.
Performances will be held on the Beacon Sloop Club’s two solar-powered music stages, and entertainment features both storytellers and musicians. This year’s lineup includes Arm of the Sea, Beacon High School Chorus, Beacon Songsmiths, Bindlestick Bill, Cosby Gibson, Ken Miller, April Mae & The June Bugs, Jonathan Kruk, Judith Tulloch, Restless Wanderer, Trouble Sisters, Rob May, Spook Handy, and Patrick Stanfield Jones with Laurie Siegel & Joe Boggess.
Some of the educational activities featured this year are “Come Grow With Us! Seed Babies,” “Ask a Master Gardener,” and the Environmental Tent. The first, “Come Grow With Us!” has a potting station where children can learn to take care of a marigold seed. The second is tied to it, with anyone able to ask a “Master Gardener” for clarification. The Environmental Tent has hands-on science experience for children and their parents, explaining the state of the Hudson River, what it means, how it can improve, and more.
Other activities for children are Compass Arts and Vincent’s Eat Paint Love.
The sloop itself, the Woody Guthrie, will be taking guests on free sails from the Beacon Harbor. The vessel is a replica of the popular gaff-rigged Hudson River sloop from centuries prior and was launched in 1978 to support the message of its predecessor, the Clearwater. Both vessels were made to help promote the clean-up of the Hudson River by Pete Seeger.

This summer, Brooklyn based rock band, The Hold Steady will be presenting an all-star music festival, Positive Jam. The inaugural event will be held on August 5th at Arrowood Farms, a local festival hot spot in the small town and agricultural hub of Accord, New York.
The Positive Jam festival will serve as another commemoration of the rock band’s 20 year anniversary which passed this January. On top of the band headlining the event themselves, they will be joined by a line up of close friends and idols including, Guided By Voices, The Tallest Man On Earth, Laura Stevenson, I Get Wild (plays Talking Heads), and Oceanator.
The event, presented in association with Impact Concerts and Ground Control Touring, will kick off at 5 PM on August 4th with THS Positive Jam Prelims Pool Party. The welcome gathering will be located at the INNESS Luxury Hotel and Resort and will feature DJ sets from The Hold Steady along with a collection of fun activities for festival goers to participate in.
On the 5th, the star-studded lineup will be accompanied by Arrowood Farms locally inspired craft beers and comfort food, along with diverse Hudson Valley-based food trucks, clothing, and arts vendors.
Positive Jam is just one event of a multitude of planned appearances by the rock band for the summer and autumn of 2023. The Hold Steady will play their live show at various locations across the country and will appear in their home-base of Brooklyn four times.
Their landmark 20th anniversary will further be commemorated by the upcoming publication of The Gospel of The Hold Steady: How a Resurrection Really Feels, a new oral history by Michael Hann and The Hold Steady, which will be available to the public on July 25.
