  • Joshua Bassett Stops at the Hammerstein Ballroom During Complicated Tour

Joshua Bassett recently played at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday, March 24th with opener Lindsey Lomis for his only New York date during his The Complicated Tour.

The two put on an unforgettable performance for their audience of 2500, with Bassett playing various songs from his EPs, Different, Sad Songs In A Hotel Room, and Joshua Bassett. Thousands of fans, many of them wearing sparkly tops, colorful pants, and pink cowboy hats, waited in anticipation for Joshua’s incredible set.

    Joshua Bassett

Bassett, initially gaining popularity for his role alongside Olivia Rodrigo in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, resides in New York City but grew up in San Diego, California. The 22-year old pop singer is currently in the middle of his tour and has various dates left in the US and across Europe.

Joshua first entered the stage yelling “New York City!” and jumped up and down during his upbeat song, “Feel Something.” The crowd lost it when he jumped off of the stage, greeting fans and accepting flowers from one girl, whilst encouraging everyone to get into the groove of the music. During his song, “i’m sorry,” Bassett truly awed the crowd with his deeply intimate lyrics as he touched on subjects like depression, addiction, breakups, and loneliness.

He made his way into the middle of the audience during “Common Sense,” as he sang his first ever release acoustically to his starstruck fans. In the chorus of “Different,” he disappeared from the stage and made his way to the upper balconies to greet the rest of the crowd. Finally, at the end of his last song, “Set Me Free,” Joshua climbed onto a piano and jumped off at the drop of the beat, while confetti shot out of cannons on either end of the stage.

Bassett ended his set with a long wait before the crowd began shouting, “One more song, one more song!”, where he reentered and put on a final performance of “SHE SAID HE SAID SHE SAID.”

Setlist: Feel Something, Secret, Doppelgänger, LA, Used To It, Finally Free, Medley (Joshua Bassett EP), Heaven Is You, Sad Songs In A Hotel Room, Lie Lie Lie, Common Sense, Lifeline, All In Due Time, Empire State of Mind, Pt. 2 (Alicia Keys cover), would you love me now?, i’m sorry, Different, Smoke Slow, Iris (The Goo Goo Dolls cover), Beautiful City (Stephen Schwartz cover), Set Me Free

  • Sister Musical Duo Aly & AJ Debut New Album

Sister pop duo Aly & AJ released their fifth studio album, With Love From, on March 15. The album comes after 2021’s A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun, their first studio album in 14 years. Prior to its release, four singles, “With Love From,” “Baby Lay Your Head Down,” “After Hours,” and “Blue Dress” were released in support.

Aly & AJ were born in Torrance, California in 1989 and 1991 respectively, and raised in both Southern California and Seattle. Both of their parents, who are now divorced, work in the music industry, their dad is a producer, and their mother is a musician who performed in the Christian rock band, JC Band. The sisters have a history with Disney, with Aly playing a supporting role in the sitcom Phil of the Future from 2004-06, co-starring in the 2005 Disney Channel Orginal Movie Now You See It, and starring with AJ in the network’s 2006 original movie Cow Belles.

Their debut album, Into the Rush, was released in 2005. The album was heavily supported by Disney, with their cover of “Do You Believe in Magic” appearing in the soundtrack of Now You See It…; the single “No One” appearing in the 2005 Walt Disney Pictures Film Ice Princess; another cover “Walking on Sunshine,” appearing in the soundtrack for the Lindsay Lohan film Herbie: Fully Loaded. The album’s debut track and fifth single overall, “Rush” was featured in Disney’s Twitches, before being released to mainstream radio and becoming their first single to chart the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at 59. Their single, “On the Ride” appeared in the soundtrack for Cow Belles.

Insomniatic, their third studio album, became their most successful release to date in 2007. The album’s debut single, “Potential Breakup Song” similarly became the duo’s most successful single to date. The sisters took an extended break after the album’s release, marking their return in 2017 with the EP Ten Years. In 2021, they released their first studio album in 14 years, A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun. The album didn’t reach the same success as their previous work, but it was supported by a single, “Slow Dancing.”

With Love From marks a minor departure from Aly & AJ’s previous work, something they started doing with their prior album. Highlights from the album include the title track, “With Love From,” and “After Hours.” While their early work encompassed upbeat dance music you were likely to hear at a party in the late 2000s, their newer music is a slower-paced, soft-pop sound. The change feels natural, reflecting the growth they’ve had over the years of their career. Aly & AJ are ready to introduce their new sound to a live audience, headlining a tour this spring that will have a stop at the Hammerstein Ballroom on April 22.

  • Miley Cyrus is a Modern Day Wonder Woman on “Endless Summer Vacation”

Miley Cyrus released her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, on March 10. The album, which Cyrus describes as her “love letter to LA,” was preceded by two singles, “Flowers” in January, and “River” on the same day as the album’s release. The former Disney star delivers again with her newest release, reminding her fans why they love and support her so much.

A streaming special, Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions) was released in support of the album. Photo Credit: Good Morning America

Miley Cyrus was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1992, originally as Destiny Hope Cyrus. While Cyrus has since made a new for herself in the music industry, she comes from a famous family, being the daughter of county singer Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Tish, who has managed her daughter since the start of her career. She got her big break when she landed the starring role in Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, which made her into a teen icon and role model for young children while the show was airing from 2006 to 2011.

In the early days of Hannah, Cyrus released her debut album, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus, which doubled as the soundtrack album for the show’s second season, followed by her first solo album, Breakout, in 2011. She has since made a name for herself outside of Disney, shedding her “good girl” image as early as 2010 with her third album, Can’t Be Tamed, while still starring on Hannah Montana.

Endless Summer Vacation starts out strong, stays steady throghout, and picks up again for the last few trakcs. Highlights from the album include “Flowers, “Jaded,” “Thousand Miles,” “Muddy Feet,” “Island,” and “Wonder Woman.”

The album closes out with “Wonder Woman,” and perfectly so, reminding us exactly who Cyrus is: a modern day Wonder Woman. The singer was born to a famous father but has come to be known as much more than the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, and was given a platform through Disney that spearheaded her to success, yet she was still able to break free from that “Disney bubble” that so many stars find themselves in. Endless Summer Vacation is sure to guarantee Miles Cyrus an Endless career in the music industry.

Endless Summer Vacation is now streaming. In support of her album, Cyrus has again partnered with Disney, releasing a streaming special, Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions) on Disney Plus. A highly anticipated tour has yet to be announced.

  • Taylor Crawford Releases New Avant-Pop Single “Heartbreak Hotel”

Brooklyn based singer/songwriter Taylor Crawford has just released his newest avant-pop single “Heartbreak Hotel” on March 10th. He will also be playing live again on March 28th at Arlene’s Grocery, alongside owynnmusic

Taylor Crawford Releases Upbeat Single “Heartbreak Hotel”

With his musical influences as infamous artists like Barry White, Dua Lipa, Remi Wolf, Madison Cunningham, Ichiko Aoba, and many more, Taylor is certainly making his way into popularity within NYC culture. Using a combination of upbeat melody and his unique vocals, Taylor came up with his newest single “Heartbreak Hotel,” a reflection of his trip to Germany where he may have caused a relationship to split unknowingly.

Taylor Crawford Releases Upbeat Single “Heartbreak Hotel”

When asking Taylor what inspire him to write this piece, he responded with, “”Heartbreak Hotel” is actually named after a bar in Bremen, Germany literally called Heartbreak Hotel. I do not play the good guy in this story. I met a delightful lady while I was visiting my friend in Germany. One night we all went out together to this bar, one thing led to another, then she and I spent the evening together. This would have been a happy ending, however, she had a partner at the time. I hurt not only this partner of hers whom I never met, and worst of all, I ruined their relationship. The song is my reflection on the pain that I caused to these people.”

Speaking about his profound influence on his own musical journey, Taylor stated, “I initially played trombone and bassoon when I was in 4th Grade. So I was about 10 years old. Then when I got to high school, I honestly did not know who I needed to talk to so I could continue playing in the band. So I stopped with the big band instruments. I started teaching myself guitar when I was around 13 years old. I remember sitting in my brother’s bedroom where we had the family computer. I would look up Coheed and Cambria songs on “Ultimate-guitar.com” and learn the tabs to songs like “Welcome Home,” and “The Suffering.” These were the first songs I was learning and their prog-rock. It’s hilarious to think about considering the music I make now. My brother was getting guitar lessons at the time and I think my mom just did not want to pay for a whole other lesson, which makes sense because they were expensive, but I taught myself everything I know because of that.”

Then I basically wanted to become the next John Mayer. I learned ALL of his songs. And they were the only things I could play for about 4 years. I pigeon-holed myself until I got to college where my roommate taught me the pentatonic scale and it completely changed my perspective on music as a whole. Since then, my understanding and love for music has been nothing but exponential.

    – Taylor Crawford

Taylor Crawford is an incredible musician, artist, and person, he deserves the hype that he gets from his music. His use of vocals is dreamy, making his overall sound so unique and invigorating. Lastly, when asked about the best performance of his career, Taylor says, “I hope the best has yet to come. But, for now I would say the Sofar Sounds show I did in Madrid, Spain this past December. It was just an acoustic show but the reaction I got from the audience was surreal. I’ve never made people cry before and to have that happen means I really touched them emotionally – which is what I aim to do as an artist. I connected with people, and they connected with me. To me, that means I gave a good performance. I hope to continue to do the same as the shows keep coming.”

Indie-pop band See Plus released their exciting new single, “Waiting For You” in February. The title is fitting, because fans, as the lyrics describe, have been “patiently waiting,” for the band’s new music. The song comes nearly a year since the release of their last single, “The Sun.”

It was definitely worth the wait, and See Plus don’t disappoint with their latest track. Not only does “Waiting For You” encompass everything the band stands for, but it also lasts long enough for fans to enjoy. At four and a half minutes, the band’s newest single takes fans on a journey from the beginning, middle, to end. Of course, that journey is a subjective one. Whether you’re waiting for the return of a significant other, close friend, or family member, most fans will be able to relate to this track.

Originating in New Jersey, See Plus consists of Miles Dellaha, Jake Linsalata, Claire Guillermo, and Alex Fiume. The group started out playing in a basement, beating the odds of the “garage band cliche” and slowly achieved mainstream success. Their main inspirations are the Arctic Monkeys, Jack White, and Weezer, by whom they learned to play songs. They released their first digital album, Pool of Tar, in Dec. 2018, a tale of guilt and a failed relationship. The and is currently preparing to release an EP, Better in Person.

“Waiting For You” is now available for download. Additionally, See Plus will be performing in New York City on Feb. 25. Read more for ticketing and other information.
