Multi-platinum headliners Avenged Sevenfold announce the release of their new single, their first since 2016, titled “Nobody,” as well as a show at Madison Square Garden on June 23.

To date, Avenged Sevenfold has sold over 10 million albums worldwide and earned two consecutive No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart as well as multiple No. 1 singles on rock radio. They have garnered over a billion video views and a billion-plus Spotify streams. Their new track “Nobody” is the band’s first official music release since their 2016 album, The Stage, delivering nearly six minutes of twists and turns, leaning in on the sense of discomfort before letting go.
The official video for the track, directed by Chris Hopewell, is beautifully crafted in stop-motion style, unfolding like a short film. It takes the viewer through the exploration of life and death, love and war, and follows the main character through an existential crisis. The band teased the single through an elaborate and mysterious digital scavenger hunt with puzzles, ciphers, images, and blog posts all written by Chat GPT, DALL-E 2, and AI voice modifiers, leading fans to a website for more challenges, eventually “unlocking” the single on release day.
Their new record Life Is But a Dream was recorded over the last four years, drawing inspiration from Albert Camus’ classic 1942 novella, The Stranger, due June 2. Avenged Sevenfold is supporting the release with two shows this summer- one at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, CA,on June 9 and the other at Madison Square Garden on June 23. On top of that, they have a number of festival dates scheduled, including a headline run Welcome to Rockville 2023 in Daytona Beach, Florida on May 19, and performances at the Sonic Temple Art and Music festival in Columbus, Ohio on May 26 and Aftershock 2023 in Sacramento, California on Oct. 5.
In celebration of 36 years, industrial-dance trailblazers My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult have announced additional dates for their ‘Evil Eye Tour,’ featuring the band’s classic hits from 1987-1997.
With fans clamoring for dates throughout the East and North Central states, the band released 16 additional dates, once again alongside support acts Adult and Kanga, including Halloween night in New York City.
Hailing from Chicago’s renowned Wax Trax! Records stable of artists, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult have been conjuring up sonic tales of sex, blasphemy and kitschy horror since 1987. The band helped develop the industrial music genre, yet have continued to expand their style, creating one of the most diverse repertoires in modern music. Electronic rock, heavily influenced by both disco and funk can best describe their sound, while spoken-word samples lifted from B-movies gives the band their signature mark. They have released 14 studio albums, a slew of remix compilations, and have contributed to a variety of soundtracks and film scores, including a cameo performance in the 1994 cult movie classic The Crow.
Artist Franke Nardiello and musician Marston Daley, two Chicago neighbors who enjoyed late night binges watching trashy exploitation films and horror flicks, wanted to make their own movie to be called “My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult”. While the project never came to fruition, they wrote some music to be the accompanying soundtrack. Both worked at the Wax Trax record store, and when label founders Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher heard the songs, they were intrigued. Using the film title as the name of the band, they released a 3-song EP in early 1988. The response was overwhelming, and it was clear fans wanted to hear more.
Taking the stage names Groovie Mann (Nardiello) and Buzz McCoy (Daley), the duo began to focus on music full time. They created an occult meets leather biker image to compliment the band’s name which included enlisting a bevy of voluptuous back-up singers / dancers known as the BOMB GANG GIRLZ. In June of ’88, they flew to label mate Luc Van Acker’s studio in Belgium to record their first album, I See Good Spirits and I See Bad Spirits. It was recorded in just ten days, and mixed in another ten days at Southern Studios in London. The fans ate it up! They followed up with two hard-hitting dance floor 12” tracks – Kooler Than Jesus (1989) and Cuz It’s Hot (1990), which features no-wave chanteuse Lydia Lunch on vocals. The New York Times wrote, “Sex, blasphemy, big beats and go-go dancing; they’re all in a day’s work for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult”. This attracted the attention of indie fans, as well as the ire of the PMRC and conservative religious groups in practically equal measure. By the time of their sophomore release, Confessions Of A Knife (1990), they were far and away one of the biggest selling acts on the label.
1991 saw the release of their third album, Sexplosion!, a calculated sonic and visual departure from their previous work. 1950’s pin-up models replaced the demonic imagery, while sleazy stripper horns, disco beats and house diva vocals (provided by artist Shawn Christopher) took prominence over the more abrasive musical elaments.They put together a provocative stage show, complete with spinning police lights, mirror balls and a stocked bar with bartender to serve the scantily clad musicians and dancers while they performed. It was a huge success, and the group signed a deal with Interscope Records shortly afterwards and released two more albums – 13 Above the Night (1993), and Hit & Run Holiday (1995).
Hollywood also embraced the KULT, recognizing the unique cinematic aspect in their sound. Most notably, the band scored five songs for animator Ralph Bakshi’s Cool World (1992) and wrote the lap dance song for director Paul Verhoven’s saucy Showgirls (1993). Comedies BASEketball and The Flintstones Movie prominently feature songs from the Hit & Run Holiday album. They have been roasted by MTV’s Beavis & Butthead, and were written into the story line of the film Sexy Evil Genius which also features the song “A Daisy Chain 4 Satan”. Most recently the club hit “Kooler Than Jesus” can be heard blasting in Season 3 of the Netflix series Narcos.
Today SLEAZEBOX.com boasts the complete THRILL KILL KULT catalog, in addition to related works and McCoy’s self titled projects. They continue to work with Wax Trax! Records for the purpose of re-issuing special limited edition vinyl. Buzz and Groovie still record and perform live along with veteran band mates Mimi Star (bass) and Justin Thyme (drums), all the while making a reputation for themselves as one of the most notorious and controversial cult bands of their generation.

Having never set foot on American soil until a couple of days prior in New York City, the power metal quintet Powerwolf, founded in 2003 in Saarbrücken, Germany – affectionately known as The Wolves to their diehard legion of fans – descended upon The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts this past Saturday night, February 25.
Touring in support of their eighth studio album, Call of the Wild (Napalm Records, 2021), Powerwolf are vocalist Karsten Brill as “Attila Dorn,” lead guitarist Benjamin Buss as “Matthew Greywolf,” studio bassist and rhythm guitarist David Vogt as “Charles Greywolf,” keyboardist Christian Jost as “Falk Maria Schlegel” and drummer Roel van Helden.

Promptly at 7:00 pm, and much to the delight of nearly 100 fans who had been huddling together in below freezing temperatures (some as early as the morning hours), doors to the historic concert hall constructed in 1928 and known for hosting a bevy of legendary heavy metal acts over the years (Rammstein, Soundgarden, Korn, Rob Zombie and Slayer, to name but a few), finally opened. Approximately 30 minutes before the night’s opening act would take the stage, and with the nearly 2,200 seat venue filling up fast, fans continued to pack the warm confines of the lobby, while also checking out the ‘merch’ tables or grabbing a drink from the array of bars strategically placed throughout.

Running a little behind schedule, the house lights suddenly went dark as Napalm Records label mates Seven Kingdoms took the stage at 7:45 pm. Formed in 2007 and hailing from DeLand, Florida, they are a thrash metal band comprised of frontwoman Sabrina Valentine, her husband and guitarist Camden Cruz, along with brothers Keith and Kevin Byrd, on drums and guitar, respectively.
The Floridians performed a blistering 45-minute set that kicked off with “Universal Terrestrial,” taken from their most recent of five studio albums (Zenith, 2022). Led by Valentine’s broad vocal range that injects a raw emotion into all her lyrics, Seven Kingdoms nearly performed the entirety of Zenith, albeit two original songs (“Empty Eyes” and Life Signs”). Highlights of their set included “Love Dagger,” a tune reminiscent of the 1980s hair metal scene and “A Silent Remedy,” complete with explosive, crisp guitar riffing.

An unexpected inclusion in their 10-song set was a cover of Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer.” However, with each member adding their own power metal flavor for good measure, the almost 40-year old tune written by the Eagles vocalist and drummer fit right in nicely. The penultimate song of the night was the aggressive “Diamond Handed,” before “In the Walls” (Decennium, 2017), a song inspired by an H.P. Lovecraft short story, left the crowd ‘powermetalized’ and wanting more!
After a very quick turnover of the elaborate stage design by Powerwolf’s road crew, filled with dark werewolf fantasy art throughout, the moment we had all been waiting for had arrived! At 8:45 pm, the lights went down once again and one by one, beginning with the Dutch drummer van Helden, each band member took the stage and acknowledged their fans for a lasting moment before assuming their respective stage positions. Wearing meticulously-applied silver and black corpse face paint and donning industrial goth outfits, the ceremony commenced with “Faster Than the Flame,” the first of four offerings from the aforementioned Call of the Wild album – Powerwolf would go on to play “Dancing With the Dead,” “Beast of Gévaudan” and “Blood for Blood (Faoladh)” later in the night. As the song concluded, the fans erupted in applause, a whirling mosh pit suddenly formed in the center of the General Admission floor and repeated chants of “Powerwolf” began in unison, the first of many that fans would bestow upon its metal heroes.

Attila then addressed the congregation before him for the first of many times. “Good evening Worcester, it’s wonderful to be here! Welcome to the one and only holy heavy metal mass in the world!” “Incense & Iron” was up next, a track from Powerwolf’s seventh studio album (The Sacrament of Sin) released in 2018, which showcased Matthew Greywolf’s powerfully precise guitar craftmanship. Before launching into “Army of the Night” (Blessed & Possessed, 2015), Attila again acknowledged the faithful patrons of their music. “Thank you very much, you are very awesome my friends. Tonight is a very special night for us because we are playing here for the first time. It is a really amazing atmosphere here.”
Although Powerwolf would not present any songs from their debut album (2005’s Return in Bloodred) or their second album (2007’s Lupus Dei), there was plenty of other righteous material to keep their pilgrims satisfied, including “Amen & Attack” (Preachers of the Night, 2013) and “Armata Strigoi,” another gift from their sixth studio album Blessed & Possessed. In advance of the later piece, Attila humorously coached the audience to croon the anthemic (and rather complicated I might add) four-part chorus until we got it right, which we all did.

The subsequent quartet of songs were all selected from The Sacrament of Sin and included “Stossgebet,” “Demons Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “Fire and Forgive” and Powerwolf’s first ever power ballad, “Where the Wild Wolves Have Gone.” While the fantastic audience continued to perform just as well as their Deutschland brethren, belting out lyrics in all the right places, our minds were officially blown when Powerwolf bestowed upon us the lead single to their ninth studio album (Interludium), set for release this Good Friday, April 7.
As the epic 18-song set entered the final stages, an encore was preceded by a glorious grouping of career-spanning tracks, including fan favorite and the third gift imparted from Blessed & Possessed, “Let There Be Night.” After Powerwolf exited the stage to quickly recharge their batteries, I was surprised to notice a throng of fans (albeit small) in the upper balcony heading for the exits – big mistake! Why you ask? Because an unforgettable, three song encore for the ages followed next, including back-to-back tracks from Powerwolf’s fourth studio album (Blood of the Saints), “Sanctified With Dynamite” and “We Drink Your Blood.” Sandwiched between these songs, Attila shared “This night showed me one thing my friends. All of you here are possessed with heavy metal! And I think I speak for everyone here in this venue, heavy metal, this music, gives us a lot of power and energy! And you my friends give us this energy back, and I appreciate that. In Germany, we say ‘vielen danke schön.’”

After splitting the crowd up the middle for a cheering match between each side of the stage (Matthew Greywolf versus Charles Greywolf), Attila promised us that they’d return and thanked their “best crew in the world.” As the night neared 10:30 pm, the religious experience was capped by 2009’s “Werewolves of Armenia” in grand fashion.
If you are able to join the pack, Powerwolf’s “North American Crusade” tour will resume in Dallas on March 20, followed by shows in Denver (March 22), San Francisco (March 24) and Los Angeles (March 25). On April 6, an exclusive “Interludium Release Show” will be performed at Palladium in Cologne, Germany. And to all the wolves out there, Metal is Religion!

NYC based FRANK have just released their newest instrumental recording Moment, on Thursday, Feb 23rd. The album captures the more jammier side of the band, which is what the band is known for sounding during their live performances.
The band recorded this piece a few months ago in one live take at the end of the night. They stated, “We had no plan, nothing said at all, we just started playing. As always, we listened to each other, explored together, and when we stopped, something that didn’t exist before was in the world. We decided to release it as an instrumental FRANK record we are calling Moment.
Originally NYC based, FRANK has been playing live and creating music since 2001, with seven studio albums and another on the way. One night in December in between album sessions, they created Moment, an impromptu instrumental improvised and recorded in one take.
FRANK has been working on a new LP to follow up their 2021 release Dreams and Fears of the Outside. They stayed, “We’re very proud of Moment as it represents the jammier side of our band. We are always exploring new sounds, rhythms, spaces, and ideas, which our audience doesn’t always get to hear as part of our recorded works.”
FRANK’s new album features many songs like “The Sparkling Realization,” a song that features the bands core collaboration. Other songs like “Sucker for a Pharoah” and “Broken Kaleidoscope” give fans what they love most, rock. All of these songs are classic studio jams that sound as if you were at one of FRANK’s sessions personally.
In a previous article by NYS Music, the album Dreams and Fears of the Outside was described as “…It has everything you want from a Rolling Stones influenced vibe. Due to overwhelming demand, a second date was added to the When We Were Young Festival at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, taking place on Oct. 21 and 22, 2023.
When We Are Young Festival took social media by storm when it was first announced, with people not believing it was even real at first, featuring big names like My Chemical Romance and Paramore as headliners. Tickets sold out almost immediately and two more dates were added afterward. The first run of the festival on Oct. 22 started out weak as it was canceled due to high winds, with fans taking to social media complaining as the festival was canceled after doors had already opened. Nevertheless, it has still maintained popularity as a second date has been added on Oct. 22, 2023.

Austrian symphonic metal band, Visions of Atlantis, is currently debuting their first-ever US headlining tour, which included a stop at The Montage Music Hall in Rochester on Sunday, Feb. 19. The five-piece group, based out of Styria, Austria, brought a pirate-themed musical journey to Rochester in which many fans in attendance dressed the part.
Having only recently discovered this band through a flyer from The Montage, I decided to give them a listen, as I am always looking for new music and shows to see. Immediately I could detect a Nightwish influence which piqued my attention as I love Nightwish, and I thought this would be a fun show to check out, especially since it is the bands first headlining US tour.
Waiting for Visions of Atlantis to take the stage, cheerful pirate music played throughout the venue as concertgoers filled in, with several having elaborate pirate costumes themselves. The lights dim, fog fills the scene, and the band’s backdrops stand out nicely. The blue lighting with the white lasers gave the feeling that it was nighttime aboard a pirate ship, which was impressive, given how minimal it was.
The band takes to the stage in a roar of applause and immediately jumps into their 15-song set. The sound was clear and complete while not overly produced. Visions of Atlantis features two vocalists, Clémentine Delauneyand Michele Guaitoli, who play very well off each other. Immediately you can feel the band’s passion and that they enjoy what they are doing.
The pirate theme continued throughout their set, with a brief pause between songs as the band recruited the audience onto their ship with the traditional “Arr” chant.
Visions of Atlantis breezed through their set flawlessly, with significant crowd interaction and stage presence. The band sounded just as good live as they do on their studio albums, and it was indeed a great show to witness. The vocals from Delauney and Guaitoli were on point, and the drums of Thomas Caser were fantastic and were the backbone of the performance. Guitarist Christian Douscha and Bassist Herbert Glos played off each other exceptionally well, with friendly banter between all bandmates that made this an entertaining show.
The band thanked everyone continuously throughout the set, and the appreciation was well received, with roars of applause each time. The excitement from the band as they stated that this was their first headlining US tour and how happy they were to be able to do this was wholesome. I always enjoy seeing a band on their first headlining tour, especially when they’re from another country, and Visions of Atlantis did not disappoint.
I highly recommend going to see Visions of Atlantis if given the opportunity. The atmosphere was friendly, the music was fantastic, and the overall experience of seeing them was refreshing. I hope this band continues to gain success and look forward to their next US tour.

Alter Bridge made their long-awaited return to Central New York on Friday, February 10, playing to a near-capacity crowd at Del Lago Casino in Waterloo. The band is touring in support of its 2022 release, Pawns & Kings, and brought along Mammoth WVH in support.
Formed in 2004 in Orlando, Florida, Alter Bridge has released seven studio albums as well as several live albums. The band consists of Myles Kennedy (vocals, guitar), Mark Tremonti (guitar, vocals), Brian Marshall (bass guitar), and Scott Phillips (drums).
The evening kicked off promptly at 8 o’clock with Mammoth WVH playing to an already full house. The band, fronted by Wolfgang Van Halen (son of Eddie Van Halen), tore through a set of classic rock tracks off their 2021 self-titled release. Wolfgang delighted the crowd with his pristine vocals and his indisputable guitar talent, tearing through several guitar solos reminiscent of his father. After a forty-minute set, the band left the stage triumphantly, to a sea of metal horns from the crowd.
Excitement in the venue quickly became palpable as the Alter Bridge backdrop rose from behind the stage. Shortly after the band entered and launched into “Silver Tongue.” With a howl from Myles Kennedy, the set was underway. The band tore through a mixture of tracks from throughout their nineteen years together. Kennedy’s vocals, powerful enough to fill a stadium, soared through the venue.
After a short acoustic set which saw Kennedy play a solo rendition of “Watch Over You,” followed by a Kennedy and Tremonti duet of “In Loving Memory,” the band returned to the stage. With their return, the opening notes of “Blackbird” by The Beatles were strummed. The crowd rose in anticipation as the band segued into their song of the same name. Perhaps the pinnacle of the Alter Bridge catalog, “Blackbird” is a hauntingly beautiful track about the loss of a close friend. The slow-building track soon erupted into another memorable solo from Tremonti.
Like all great things, this evening had to come to a close. Alter Bridge ended the night where they began nineteen years ago: with their first single, “Open Your Eyes.” The crowd joined, erupting into a full-fledged singalong before the band was through.
Heavy Metal band Disturbed has announced their 36-date Take Back Your Life Tour for Summer 2023, supporting their eighth studio album, Divisive, and their first tour in five years.
The tour kicks off on Thursday, April 27, and includes a stop at St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview in Syracuse on Aug. 12, and Northwell Health Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh on Aug. 19.

Additionally, Disturbed’s latest tour will feature performances by metalcore band Jinjer and rock band Breaking Benjamin. Disturbed will be joined by both groups in Syracuse on Aug. 12, and Jinjer will perform with them at Jones Beach on Aug. 19 as well. On the collaboration, Jinjer said, “We are really looking forward to hitting the road in the US again, alongside Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin. We can not wait to see some old fans and welcome some new ones as well!”
Originally from Chicago, Disturbed first emerged on the music scene in 2000, with the release of their debut album, The Sickness, through Giant and Reprise Records. Nominated for two Grammy Awards Disturbed has achieved five consecutive #1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200. Significantly, they are the only rock group other than Metalica to accomplish this feat. Their catalog of hit songs includes the platinum “Stupify,” “Inside The Fire,” and “Land of Confusion, just to name a few. At the 2017 iHeart Radio Music Awards, the band significantly earned the award for “Best Rock Artist.”
Divisive is out now via reprise records. Its 10 tracks were composed with the help of producer Drew Fulk in Nashville over the last year. The album’s first single, “Hey You”, proceeded its release, emerging as their 15th #1 single on Rock Radio. Its newest single, “Bad Man” is in Rock Radio’s top 10.

Trivium and Beartooth have announced they are co-headlining a tour stopping at 29 cities, among them Buffalo Riverworks on May 9 and the following day in Huntington at The Paramount on Wednesday, May 10. Malevolence and Archetypes Collide will join the bands on all dates across the upcoming tour.

The song sees frontman Caleb Shomo put the pain of the past in the rearview mirror as he takes the steering wheel from fate to command his own destiny, and focuses on the struggles of self-acceptance and mental health, two themes that have defined the band since their inception.
The upcoming tour supports In the Court of the Dragon released in 2021 through Roadrunner Records. Performing for more than two decades, the band has continued to receive International acclaim from The New York Times, NPR, Forbes, Billboard, and more. Through the years, Trivium performed alongside Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and many others and graced the main stages of Download, Bloodstock, KNOTFEST, and more.
Tickets can be purchased starting Friday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. Ticketless VIP upgrades are being offered to fans as a joint package, allowing fans to meet both bands.

Long Island‘s Gone Stereo is premiering a new video for the track “Don’t Think I Forgot About You” on BlankTV. Singer Matty Lupinacci says “Getting dumped sucks, but sometimes you move onto better things and you don’t look back. When your ex hits the dating pool, realizes you’re great and wants you back…it may be too late.”
Long Island has a long and storied history as a hub of underground punk and with their debut single, Gone Stereo, has added the first page to their chapter. “Don’t Think I Forgot About You” is an early 2000s pop-punk flashback reminiscent of MxPx, Autopilot Off, The Ataris or Allister to name a few.
With its catchy hooks, driving melodies, and memorable choruses, this song make it impossible to not sing-a-long and listen on repeat. B-side “Taste of This” has a pounding mid-tempo beat and soaring harmonies perfect for blasting the stereo with the windows down on a drive into the city for the pop-punk show.
The band has announced a string of shows in Jan/Feb including supporting stints for Boys Of Fall on Jan 28 in Williamsburg and Hidden In Plain View in NYC on Jan 29.
