  • Baked Shrimp Announce Spring East Coast Tour

Long Island Funk trio Baked Shrimp has announced their upcoming Spring Tour, taking place this March and April across the East Coast.

    baked shrimp

Since forming in 2017, the high-octane power funk trio Baked Shrimp has become a top up-and-coming artist in the festival circuit. The energetic and improvisational young talents of Jared Cowen (Guitar/Vocals), Scott Reill (Bass/Vocals), and Jager Soss (Drums/Vocals) from Long Island, NY have built a catalog of over 150 original songs which they cycle through night after night, making every performance unique from the last.

The band is coming off a groundbreaking 2022 in which they performed over 120 concerts covering nearly half the United States, as well as a debut performance in Canada. Baked Shrimp has provided direct support for artists such as the Disco Biscuits, Pink Talking Fish, Aqueous, Mihali , Kung Fu, Consider the Source, and more. Baked Shrimp is also quickly climbing higher on major festival lineups including Peach Music Festival, Summer Camp Music Festival, Great South Bay Music Festival, Adirondack Independence Music Festival, Catskill Mountain Jubilee, and even host their own festival in Upstate New York called LonCon.

Baked Shrimp founded LonCon in 2021 following the passing of their most loyal supporter and ambassador, Lon “Conscious” Gellman. The inaugural festival featuring live music, art, and two nights of camping took place in August of 2021 at legendary Arrowhead Ranch in Parksville, NY. After a year off in 2022, the band looks forward to the return of LonCon in 2023.

Despite Baked Shrimp’s very intense touring schedule, the trio has managed to find time to consistently release new music. The band’s 2021 release of Conscious received high praise by media outlets such as LiveForLiveMusic, Grateful Web, The Sound Podcast with Ira Haberman, and more. After a quick release of a three-disc live album The Prawno Tapes, Vol. 1, Baked Shrimp went back into the studio to finish their early-2022 release Pork Etiquette. The trio is scheduled to head into the studio once again in early 2023 to lay the groundwork for their fourth studio album.

Taking place at the New York State Fairgrounds on May 13th, this event will also showcase an impressive supporting lineup of musical guests including nationally touring act, Michigander, plus local favorites: Hard Promises, Brownskin Band, Fondu, My So Called Band, Just Joe and Ryan Mackie.

If anyone understands renewal, it’s Andrew McMahon. Over the last two decades, the veteran indie-pop
singer-songwriter has experienced musical rebirth many times, ever since he started entertaining audiences in the ‘00s alt-pop outfit Something Corporate, and he’s consistently arrived on the other side stronger than ever.

After leading Something Corporate to major chart success in the early 2000s, McMahon soon resurfaced with the more personal solo project Jack’s Mannequin, then moved on to release numerous hook-packed albums under his own name using the moniker Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. In 2006, following his own battle with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL), he launched the Dear Jack Foundation, which provides programming to benefit adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer.

  • Albany Indie-Rock Group Canella Share Video for New Single “Why Can’t I?”

Albany based indie-rock band Canella has dropped their newest single “Why Can’t I?” off their upcoming full length album Can’t Make You Smile.

Inspired by the sounds of 2000’s alt rock, Canella have established an electric presence in NY’s Capital Region as winners of WCDB Radio’s ‘Song of the Year’ award for their debut single “Quiet Love”.

Written on a fall afternoon, Canella lead singer Juliana sat in her bedroom and wrote a song that would haunt her forever. The sad acoustic guitar echoed the fears she was harboring regarding her relationship. Fears that came to pass months later, when all she had written to that indie rock tune came true and the relationship ended. Writing, and later performing the single helped Juliana to process the relationship ending and coming to term with her feelings. “I feel like I was performing the song even before the relationship ended but once it finally did end and I sang the lyrics again it really all clicked” says Juliana. “This person wasn’t the right one for me since I was full of doubt and fears, and I didn’t really realize that until after I heard it back once I was single and going through the grief of it all. Now I’m very happy with where I’m at”.

Coming to all streaming platforms on February 17th, Canella’s third single off of their upcoming record Can’t Make You Smile, tells a story of disappointment, which smoothly fits the album’s overall theme of a revenge journal. This 2000’s inspired rock single starts with an unexpected bang representing the shocking realization of the ‘red flags’ in a relationship, and ends with a heavy breakdown perfect for releasing anger and frustration.

    Canella why can't I

The chorus-y guitar-driven single will be released along with a DIY-style documentary lyric video of one of the band’s adventures through their home-base of the Capital Region. Speaking of the inspiration behind the video, Juliana speaks of wanting to permanently capture a wonderful day with friends. “At the time my friends in the band and I had very limited time together since I was only visiting them for a couple of days. I knew we were going to spend a whole day together in the city and since I had started to live far away from them, I wanted to capture candid footage of us hanging out and having a good time”.

Juliana continues, “when I went back home and was missing them I put the videos together as a cute highlight reel of that day with “Why Can’t I” in the background, and since it made us smile we decided to add the lyrics to it and post the video on our YouTube”. The fun, carefree video of a group of friends, enjoying a night out perfectly juxtaposes the concepts of uncertainty in the future of a relationship where the parties involved can’t seem to be on the same page.

You can follow the band’s social media for updates on their upcoming releases along with the full-length album coming out Spring 2023.

  • Cohoes Music Hall Announces Four New Events

The historic Cohoes Music Hall has announced the addition of four new events to their events calendar. Comedians, magicians and musicians will add to Cohoes Music Hall’s already diverse schedule, with something for audiences of all ages.

Cohoes Music Hall originally opened in 1874 where it served as the regions premier music and entertainment hall. Acts like Buffalo Bill Cody, John Philip Sousa, P.T. Barnum, and General Tom Thumb passed through the hall until its closure in 1905. After a million dollar restoration, the Hall reopened in 1975, 100 years after its original opening. Since the reopening, it has been the home to various theater groups, comedy shows, and live concerts and it remains the 4th oldest operational music hall in the United States.

    New Events

The Great Van Alden ft. Eric Mead – Friday March 3rd

A one-of-a-kind experience takes the stage, promising its audience a peek behind the curtain at the magic of filmmaking (literally). When world-class magician Eric Mead offered to play the titular role of the famous illusionist in their new film “Anomaly”, local filmmakers Spencer Sherry (Stephen King’s The Monkey) and Rahn Jenkins immediately thought of The Cohoes Music Hall as the perfect theatre location to shoot in. The filmmakers then saw an opportunity to forgo the traditional crowdfunding structure in favor of a unique and singular event that helps to fund the film, while also inviting the community to portray much-needed audience extras.

Ticket holders will be directed from stage as the Emmy-winning members of the production team will film Eric Mead in character engaging with the audience in character. Other entertainers will weave seamlessly between the takes, performing mentalism, illusions, and comedy. All the while, local artist Lexi Hannah will be creating a live painting of the event, which will be auctioned off upon its completion. Overall, the experience has been designed as a non-stop variety show of different art forms, all in support of a truly magical opportunity for the local arts scene. All proceeds will go towards completing the film and paying the local cast and crew for their work on the production.

Melvin Seals & JGB – Saturday April 8th

Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist and producer. Melvin is most revered for his powerful, high-spirited, Hammond B-3 organ, and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become “Jam Band Music”. From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up.

Jimmy Dore – Saturday June 10th

The Jimmy Dore Show is a comedy lifeline for people on the left and right (but definitely NOT the center) who are sick of bought politicians and gaslighting corporate journalists manufacturing consent for wars. A certified YouTube sensation, The Jimmy Dore Show boasts over 530 million views and over 1 million subscribers.

Don’t Iron While The Strike Is Hot – Saturday June 17th

The musical Don’t Iron While the Strike is Hot! tells the fascinating story of how a group of courageous and mostly Irish young women won the strike by their determination and the support of the local Iron Molders Union.  Through storytelling enhanced with traditional Irish music and dance, the show demonstrates how they set the example for thousands of women workers who would form unions in the following years across America in order to improve their wages and working conditions.

For a full schedule of events, and to purchase tickets, visit Cohoes Music Hall’s website.

  • Cayuga Chamber Orchestra Announces Chamber Series Performance

The Cayuga Chamber Orchestra has announced the launch of its Chamber Series on Sunday, Feb.
26, as part of their 47th season.

    The Featured Performers

The performance will include pieces by Beethoven and Brahms, a program featuring Concertmaster Christina Bouey, Principal Cellist Rosemary Elliott, violinist Anthony Bracewell and guest artist, pianist Vadim Serebryany. The program will feature Beethoven’s lush and lyrically expansive String Trio in E-flat
and Brahms’ majestic and emotionally turbulent Piano Quartet No. 3.

It is a privilege to be preparing the Brahms Piano Quartet for a performance with
beloved colleagues and friends, Tina, Anthony and Vadim. The slow movement is
a true gem. From the dark, brooding landscape of c minor Brahms transports us
to e major and a world of serenity and beauty. As I prepare to perform this
miraculous movement (which starts with a cello solo!) I am reminded of all that
is good in life, even amidst the suffering of so many in the world.

    Principal Cellist Rosemary Elliott

The Cayuga Chamber Orchestra’s mission lies in its professional excellence, vibrant performances, community education, and passion for transformation through music. The Orchestra is devoted to fostering artistic life in the Ithaca and Finger Lakes regions of New York State.

The Cayuga Chamber Orchestra has a strong commitment to serving its community in a variety of ways. An annual Family Series of concerts (all free admission) was added in 2013. In 2015, the CCO received the national honor of a Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award for the comprehensive school program that reaches over 800 elementary students each year. In 2017, the CCO added a Youth Orchestra program for advanced student musicians that currently has 57 members. In 2019, the first Diversity Fellowships were established to create opportunities for college music majors from underrepresented minority communities. Through partnerships with Longview and Kendal, CCO musicians enjoy regular opportunities to perform for and interact with the senior communities in the Ithaca region.

Tickets may be purchased by phone, at the door, or at the orchestra’s website

  • Levitate Music And Arts Festival Announces 10th Anniversary Line-Up, Dates

Levitate Music and Arts Festival’s signature summertime celebration returns this year on July 7th, 8th and 9th at the Marshfield Fairgrounds in Marshfield, MA.

This particularly special edition marks the 10th anniversary of an event that has grown to be New England’s premier music and arts festival, as well as celebrating 20 years of the Levitate community and brand. What started as a 10th Anniversary celebration of the beloved has grown to a nationally recognized festival with tens of thousands of tickets sold each day. “It’s humbling to be hitting the 20 and 10 year milestones of Levitate Brand and Levitate Music and Arts Festival,” says Levitate Co-Founder Daniel Hassett. “We set out to provide a different kind of festival for our town, and New England, back in 2013- championing our local musicians and artists and building a community who believe wholeheartedly in making the world a more creative and connected place. We’re excited to use this milestone to dig into our roots and expand our arts and mural programming, partner with more local vendors than ever, doubling our kids programs and expanding our greening efforts.” The eclectic, eco-driven and family friendly event will again present its recognized blend of world-class artists and emerging local acts, diverse food trucks, artisan vendors and wide ranging experiences from live art installations to kids activities.

The illustrious Brandi Carlile will make her first appearance at the festival, and as an artist known for celebrating the value of community, her ethos is perfectly aligned with Levitate. Trey Anastasio, a New England stalwart and lead singer of Phish will return to the festival to perform with his solo band. After ten years of incredible growth and annual performances since the inaugural Levitate Festival in 2003, American-reggae artist Stick Figure will headline in its hometown and energize the mainstage again at this year’s festival. Other notable artists on this eclectic bill this year include Goose, Ziggy Marley, Rebelution, Peach Pit, The Heavy Heavy, Celisse and Lucius.

Levitate was founded in 2003 as a community-focused surf and skate shop that steadily grew through local support and grassroots marketing. Over the past 20 years, these original core values of community, creativity and a connectedness to nature have been woven through all aspects of Levitate’s growth — from the development of its apparel line to their highly sought-after kids outdoors and creative summer camps; the expansion of its flagship store to an outdoor restaurant, music and events venue; the continued success of their signature festivals, Levitate Music & Arts Festival, and Levitate Flannel Jam, and most recently – the launch of the non profit Levitate Foundation 501(c)(3).

“I couldn’t be prouder of what Levitate has become” says Co-Founder and Artist director of Levitate, Jess Hassett. “The line-up is full of amazing female artists including Brandi Carlile, Lucius, Celisse, and Melt. Pro-skater Nora Vasconcellos will be exhibiting her incredible skills and our arts and mural program will feature a bigger and more diverse group of brilliant artists than ever before. It was thrilling to design the poster this year knowing how far Levitate has come and how the community has been behind it and has made what Levitate is today.”

In addition to the eclectic music lineup that has come to be expected at Levitate Festival, all three days will feature visual artists bringing large scale murals and live paintings to life, as well as 60+ local craft and artisan vendors offering hand-blown glass, locally thrown pottery and original artworks. 2023 will feature the largest gathering ever of these artisans

More than 30 food trucks are welcomed to the event grounds the weekend of the festival. All are locally sourced, offering a plethora of options such as farm to table, barbeque, handmade pizza, delicious baked goods and smoothies.

Additionally, Levitate Music & Arts Festival is a family friendly event and features many activities for kids to engage in. The kids zone operates each day of the festival and is run by Levitate Camp Counselors. Encouraging creativity and sharing their love of the outdoors with the next generation is at the core of Levitate’s mission and the largest kids program to date is planned for the festival’s 10th Anniversary.

Levitate Music Festival’s dedication to an eco-friendly approach reached new records in 2022 with the elimination of single use plastic at all of their bars, along with the addition of wood recycling from the site build. Additionally, thanks to their dedicated green team, the team was able to exceed their marks on clean recycling and composting stats and is excited to expand that success in 2023.

One percent of each ticket sold will be contributed to the Levitate Foundation, a non-profit whose mission is to cultivate vibrant communities by creating and conserving access to music, art and the outdoors

Tickets are on sale now. Visit Levitate’s website for more information.

  • Duran Duran Announces New Tour With CMAC Date

Duran Duran has announced a 26-date North American arena tour for 2023, with both Bastille and Nile Rodgers & CHIC joining them as special guests across the entire run.

“The Future Past Tour” begins on May 28 in San Jose, CA, and includes a stop at CMAC in Canandaigua on September 3, 2023.

    Duran Duran

2022 served as something of a landmark year for Duran Duran, having just been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, a career peak that followed a summer live season of epic proportions. They headlined London’s Hyde Park in front of 60,000 people, performed at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, and closed the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in their home town of Birmingham. They also embarked on a headline tour across North America which included sold-out shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden and three nights at the Hollywood Bowl.

It’s remarkable to me that as a band, we are still hitting new milestones, and introducing the sound of DD to new generations of music lovers. We are truly grateful that we get to do what we do on a daily basis, and that we still love our job as much as we did when we started out some four decades ago.

    Simon Le Bon

The cinematic release of their new docu-concert film, A Hollywood High followed, before the band capped off the year with a spectacular performance in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, counting fans down into 2023 in front of a live audience of over one million people on the streets of Manhattan. All this after the huge success of the new studio album FUTURE PAST, hailed as Duran Duran at their best by critics and fans alike, four decades into their rich and storied career.

Enlisting the help of some of the most exciting names of the last 50 years, with FUTURE PAST, Duran Duran has delivered another incredible genre-spanning piece of work that once again sets them apart from the pack. Working alongside DJ / producer Erol Alkanand pioneering Italian composer/producer Giorgio Moroder, who added his magic to create two instant future classics “Beautifullies,” and “Tonight United,” as well as some of the most unexpected and inspiring names in pop – including Swedish hitmaker, Tove Lo on “Give It All Up,” and “Queen of Drill,” as well as Ivorian Doll on “Hammerhead” and Japan’s CHAI on “More Joy!”.

In addition, Blur’s Graham Coxon co-wrote and lends his guitar to several tracks on the record and David Bowie’s former pianist Mike Garson adds an exquisite sonic layer to album closer “Falling.” The record, which was recorded across studios in London and LA over lockdown, also features long-time collaborator Mark Ronson who co-wrote and played on “Wing,” and was mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit Duran Duran’s website.

  • Water Street Music Hall Announces “No Fee Friday” Initiative

To celebrate their 45th anniversary, Water Street Music Hall has announced their newest initiative, “No Fee Friday”.

    Water Street Music Hall

The Initiative will waive all service fees on general admission tickets purchased on Fridays going forward. Water Street Music Hall says this is just the first of many surprises coming in the future to celebrate their anniversary, and to thank the Rochester music community that has supported them for four and a half decades.

Located alongside the Genesee River, Water Street Music Hall has been Rochester’s premier music venue since 1976. Water Street has hosted iconic concerts for 40+ years of shows with artists such as David Byrne, Iggy Pop, DMX, Pusha T, Ashanti, and St. Vincent to name a few.

The mission of Water Street Music Hall is to provide a welcoming and intimate space for music lovers to experience live performances from local and national touring artists. They are committed to supporting the music community in Rochester and beyond. The Hall creates a space where people of all ages can come together to enjoy the transformative power of music. For the past 45 years, they have been at the heart of the Rochester music scene, and are dedicated to continuing this tradition for many years to come. Their overall goal is to continue to be a destination for music enthusiasts, a place where people can discover new artists and rediscover their love of live music. They believe that music has the power to bring people together and to enrich our lives, and are proud to be a part of that tradition.

Tickets, and a schedule of events is availible at Water Street Music Hall’s website.
