Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) has announced the latest concerts of their 2023 Summer Concert lineup – rock band The Doobie Brothers and country duo Dan + Shay.
On July 14th, four-time GRAMMY Award winners and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Doobie Brothers, will perform at CMAC. This follows The Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour dates in Australia, Japan and Singapore prior to resuming their North American 2023 run.
Multiple platinum albums and 50 years later, The Doobie Brothers’ stop at CMAC will see their collection of hits once again be played together in full for the first time in 25 years.
CMAC will also see country duo Dan + Shay on August 19th. Dan + Shay’s mark on country music continues to grow with the release of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Good Things.
Produced by the duo’s Dan Smyers, the highly imaginative LP is the first country album in the streaming era to achieve RIAA Gold certification at release and is one of the only 12 albums all-genre to be released and go Gold in 2021.
In 2021, they became the first and only artist to win the GRAMMY Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance 3x consecutively since the category’s inception. The reigning Favorite Country Duo or Group winners claimed a 3rd consecutive win for the category at the American Music Awards, where they had swept their categories in 2020, becoming the first country artist ever to win Collaboration of the Year.

Nu-Metal band Mudvayne have announced their first headlining tour in over 14 years, The Psychotherapy Sessions.
The 26-city tour kicks off on July 20 in West Palm Beach, FL, and includes a stop at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh on Friday, July 28.
Mudvayne, which reunited in 2021 after an 11 year hiatus, is known for both their musical and visual experimentation, which includes face and body paint, as well as masks and uniforms. Mudvayne has sold over six million records worldwide, including nearly three million in the United States.
Previously, the group made waves in 2022 when they embarked on the Freaks on Parade Tour co-headlined with Rob Zombie. This 2023 tour, however, marks Mudvayne’s first headlining endeavor since 2009. The band will be joined by a number of supporting acts including Coal Chamber, along with GWAR, Nonpoint and Butcher Babies.

Kleinhans Music Hall has announced its annual fundraiser Rhythm and Brews will take place on Friday, June 16 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm in the Mary Seaton Room at the famed Buffalo venue.
Buffalocal will again bring together wide representation from the Western New York brewery scene. In addition to selections from 12 breweries, patrons will be able to taste high-end cuisine courtesy of Oliver’s, Britesmith, Creekview Restaurant, and Marcato by Oliver’s, all part of the Schutte Hospitality Group.
Kleinhans Music Hall was built in 1940 thanks to the generosity and vision of Edward and Mary Seaton Kleinhans, who made their fortune from the clothing store that bore their name, and the stewardship of their charitable dreams by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. The hall was designed by the Finnish father-and-son team of Eliel and Eero Saarinen, along with architects F.J. and W.A Kidd. Kleinhans is known for its combination of graceful structural beauty and extraordinary acoustics.
In 1989, the hall was designated a National Historic Landmark, the highest designation of significance a site or structure can receive. Today, the hall plays hosts to performances by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Buffalo Chamber Music Society, the Just Buffalo Literary Center’s Babel series, and touring acts such as Fiona Apple, Cowboy Junkies, Bill Burr and others.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Kleinhans Music Hall’s programming including the annual National Geographic Live Speakers Series and the upkeep of this National Historic Landmark building.
True to the very nature of the venue, music will be provided by My Cousin Tone’ and The John Bacon Quintet!
My Cousin Tone’ is a jazz band of talented and extraordinary musicians. The band plays classic jazz, jazz blues, hard bop, and jazz soul from the era when Blue Note, Prestige, Verve, and Riverside all produced a collection of jazz tunes that will live on forever. Journeyman drummer and educator, John Bacon Jr, leads this quintet of young professionals. The John Bacon Quintet pays tribute to Buffalo’s musical legacy and gives its members an opportunity to share their own unique voices, all while challenging the status quo of what it means to play jazz in Buffalo. The Offspring have announced their newest 2023 tour, Let The Bad Times Roll Tour, with special guests Sum 41 and Simple Plan.
The 24-city tour kicks off on August 1 in Auburn, WA, and includes stops at Darien Lake and Jones Beach.

Dexter Holland of The Offspring

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Jared Saltiel has announced “A Stranger, Your Name” – the first taste of his new EP, Dream Song, out on March 24, along with an album release live show at Rockwood Music Hall.
A multi-instrumentalist in the vein of Jon Brion, his original music taps into his gifts for orchestration and atmospherics, receiving comparisons to chamber pop icons Rufus Wainwright and Sufjan Stevens. With his acerbic wit and crafty narrative constructions, Saltiel is a compelling lyricist and an unapologetic perfectionist.
Dream Song, is Saltiel’s newest soul-searching record written entirely during the peak of social distancing. The shadow of unprocessed grief hangs over this haunting new collection of songs, ranging in style from spacey indie rock to baroque singer-songwriter pop. Performing the vast majority of the instrumentation himself, Saltiel worked with producer/engineer and longtime collaborator Ken Rich (Ingrid Michaelson, Son Lux) to help craft the detailed sonic textures.
There’s a throughline of deeply penetrating introspection in these songs. There’s very little that’s performative or self-conscious about the material; it’s like the songs are not concerned with the outside world, only interested in going deeper. And I think this record manages to exist in that space without feeling self-indulgent because there’s that sense that nobody’s watching. It’s just a sincere attempt to process some really heavy experiences.

Despite the rich, full-bodied sound, Dream Song is a very intimate affair, with the only other contributors being Maxim Moston on violin (Antony & the Johnsons, Rufus Wainwright), and Emily Hope Price on cello (Pearl & the Beard, Kishi Bashi). No matter the topic, be it ghosts, fascists, infatuation, or Exodus, these songs seek out disquieting ambiguities with uncompromising honesty.

Wabanaki bassist, composer, and songwriter Mali Obomsawin has announced three shows across New York State, celebrating their newest album, Sweet Tooth.
On March 26th Mali Obomsawin will be playing Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, followed by a performance at National Jazz Museum in Harlem, as part of the Jazz and Social Justice Event on March 28th, ending with a performance at Public Records on March 29th.
Sweet Tooth, the debut album from Obomsawin, highlights centuries of clever adaptation and resistance that have fueled the art and culture of Wabanaki people. Written as a compositional suite, the album blends Wabanaki stories and songs passed down in Obomsawin’s own family with tunes addressing contemporary Indigenous life, colonization, continuity, love and rage. It’s at once intimately personal, featuring field recordings of relatives at Odanak First Nation, but also conveys a larger story of the Wabanaki people, stretching across the domain of their confederacy from Eastern Canada to Southern New England.
Obomsawin’s show at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem will be followed by an in-depth conversation with series host Larry Blumenfeld, NJMH Executive Director and Co-chief Marten Band/Ramapo Munsee Lenape Nation Tracy Hyter-Suffern, and other panelists about connections between jazz and Indigenous cultures, and the issues surrounding Indigenous resistance movements.
In three movements, Obomsawin’s powerful compositions honor the Indigenous ability to shape great art from the harshest fires of colonialism. The compositions reveal threads that bind together blues, jazz, hymns, folk songs, and Native cultures, and foreground the breadth and continuity of Indigenous contributions to these genres. “Telling Indigenous stories through the language of jazz is not a new phenomenon,” Obomsawin explains. “My people have had to innovate endlessly to get our stories heard – learning to express ourselves in French, English, Abenaki… but sometimes words fail us, and we must use sound”.
Albany based jam band Hilltop have announced their newest spring tour, taking place across New York and the New England area.
Hilltop, who recently too part in NYS Music’s March Madness 2023, are already starting to grow their own dedicated fanbase and now they are looking to expand that. Coming off another succesful show at the Parish Public House in their home town, Hilltop looks forward to bringing their music to audiences across the northeast.
Inspired by legendary acts like Phish and The Grateful Dead, Hilltop combines original music, iconic covers, and musical improvisation to create an unforgettable experience for their audience.
With over 100 shows under their belt, Hilltop shows no signs of slowing down. The band, consiting of brothers Stephen & Reid Perry, and their friends Aris Nieuwkerk and Dave Klang, have also performed at festivals in Lake George as well as Catskill Mountain Jubilee last August.
On tour, Hilltop will be joined by area favorites The Apollos, Vertices, as well as supporting The Chops and Seapods ft. Al Schneir. The tour will take stop at New York venues including The Monopole, Brooklyn Music Kitchen and Funk N Waffles, interlaced with vibrant New England shows.

Raising awareness for autism, Steve Earle and City Winery are set to present the 8th annual John Henry’s Friends Benefit Concert on May 15th at The Town Hall in New York City.
This year’s eclectic lineup will feature a guitar pull with notable performances and storytelling from Steve Earle, David Byrne, Terry Allen, and Kurt Vile.
Additionally, and keeping with the annual tradition, on May 15, the City Winery’s Loft will be hosting the live rehearsal show which will feature Steve Earle solo.
Most importantly, all proceeds will support the show’s longtime partner The Keswell School, an educational program for children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Founded on the belief that children diagnosed with ASD can live full and productive lives as integrated members of their communities, The Keswell School provides educational, therapeutic, and supportive services for children diagnosed with ASD and their families.
Forever close to his heart, Steve’s son, John Henry, is a student at the school.
The John Henry’s Friends Benefit Concert has previously hosted Bruce Springsteen, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nile, Graham Nash, Shawn Colvin, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell, Josh Ritter, and Amanda Shires, among others.
The show shines a light on Autism through music and uplifts a worthy program empowering individuals with ASD to live the lives they deserve.

Brooklyn Funk Essentials has debuted their newest single, their feelgood, rollerskating jam ‘Rollin’ (Love Will Be Here)’ out now on Dorado Records.
‘Rollin’ (Love Will Be Here)’ is the 4th single from Intuition, Brooklyn Funk Essentials’ seventh album of stellar, master-crafted R&B, discofunk, poly-riddims and pop-laced hooks, which will drop on May 5th.
Across a career that stretches 30 years and seven albums, BFE have established themselves as an audacious project, fusing soul, hip hop, spoken word, jazz, Latin and of course, funk. The band have built up a loyal international cult following on every continent since inception in 1993 by iconic producer Arthur Baker and bassist Lati Kronlund. BFE was born out of New York’s buzzing hip hop, jazz and slam poetry scenes in the early 90s, rotating some of the finest musicians, DJs, poets, rappers and singers. BFE’s celebrated debut album ‘Cool & Steady & Easy’ (Dorado/RCA 1995) scored an underground hit with the version of Pharoah Sanders and Leon Thomas’ ‘The Creator Has a Master Plan’,while tracks like ‘Take The L Train’ and ‘Big Apple Boogaloo’ became DJ favorites.
This new ’70s soul inspired roller romp and sinewy thump with the luscious vocals of Alison Limerick has its roots in the forever earworms of Ohio Players, Mary Jane Girls and Roy Ayers, complete with Brass Construction-esque horns and a Chuck Brown-inspired go-go break thrown in for good measure. The infectious tune was co-written with original Brooklyn Funk Essentials member and creator Hanifah Walidah (aka Sha-Key), who combined the hooky groove with lyrics capturing the relief when lockdown was finally over and we could party again.
BFE also have made ‘Intuition’ available today for their legions of fans to pre-save. The album is Brooklyn Funk Essentials’ first long player since 6th album Stay Good in 2019. It sees BFE lay out their new ‘all killer no filler’ long player across eight tracks of laid back grooves and arrangements that still remain cool, steady and easy. Alison Limerick (vocals), Desmond Foster (guitar, vocals), Ebba Âsman (trombone, backing vocals), Hux Nettermalm (drums, percussion), Kristoffer Wallman (keys, vibraphone and synths) and bandleader Lati Kronlund (bass, guitars, keys and producer) deliver a confident and vibrant set of originals.
From the roller disco-esque Brass Construction meets S.O.S. NYC’s Irish Arts Center has announced more than two dozen artists who will come together to celebrate and extend the immense legacy of Mick Moloney, a towering figure in Irish traditional music, who died last year.
The tribute concerts, co-presented with NYU Glucksman Ireland House, will unfold over three nights, March 30 & 31 and April 1, at 7:30pm at the Irish Arts Center.
The concert tribute, produced by Irish Arts Center under the musical direction of Athena Tergis and Seamus Egan, will feature just a sample of the range of artists influenced by Moloney throughout his long career, including Nora Brown, Jean Butler, Donie Carroll, Liz Carroll, Brenda Castles, Stephanie Coleman, Cheick Hamala Diabate, Brendan Dolan, Megan Downes, Seamus Egan, Donny Golden, Ivan Goff, Jefferson Hamer, Liz Hanley, Kieran Jordan, James Keane, Tamar Korn, Dan Levinson, Joanie Madden and Cherish the Ladies, Billy McComiskey, Dan Neely, Eamon O’Leary, Niall O’Leary, John Roberts, Leni Sloan, and Athena Tergis.
In a career spanning seven decades, Moloney, described in a New York Times obituary as a “pioneering scholar and superb musician,” was one of the world’s foremost advocates of the music, history, and culture of Ireland, Irish America, and the global Irish diaspora. In co-presenting the concert tribute, Irish Arts Center and NYU Glucksman Ireland House jointly celebrate Moloney’s legacy and long association with both institutions, serving as Global Distinguished Professor of Music at NYU, and presenting more than 100 concerts over a fifteen year period at Irish Arts Center.
