    The 2022 Artpark Summer Concert lineup was announced with a full range of artists coming to the Lewiston, NY, venue. Artpark was established in 1974 and is a summer outdoor music venue ranked one of the top 100 Amphitheaters Worldwide by Pollstar, with 150+ events attended by 150,000+ visitors.

    Goose is an American jam band from Norwalk, Connecticut. The band consists of Peter Anspach, Jeff Arevalo, Ben Atkind, Rick Mitarotonda, and Trevor Weekz. They have sold out multiple tours and released many groundbreaking albums.

    Patti Labelle- June 21

    Patti Labelle is a two-time Grammy award-winning blues and pop artist, who has sold over 50 million records. She has many hit songs including “Lady Marmalade,” “On My Own,” and “New Attitude.”

    Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats- June 28

    Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats are one of the most recognizable new forces in contemporary rock. They have opened for The Rolling Stones, appeared on Saturday Night Live, CMT Crossroads, and at NPR’s Tiny Desk.

    Flogging Molly & The Interrupters- July 2

    Flogging Molly is an Irish-American seven-piece Celtic punk band formed in 1997. The Interrupters is an American punk rock band, consisting of vocalist Aimee Interrupter, drummer Jesse Bivona, bassist Justin Bivona, and guitarist Kevin Bivona.

    Barenaked Ladies- July 5

    The Barenaked Ladies are a Grammy-award-winning Canadian rock band formed in 1988, with 17 albums and over 15 million sold.

    Tedeschi Truck Band- July 12

    The Tedeschi Truck Band is a 12-piece American Blues band led by married couple Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. Their debut album, Revelator, won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album.

    Bleachers- July 27

    Bleachers is an American indie pop act and the stage name of Grammy-award-winning producer Jack Antonoff. Their pop music is heavily influenced by the late ’80s early ’90s.

    Earth, Wind, and Fire- July 31

    Described as one of the most innovative and the most commercially successful acts in history, Earth, Wind, and Fire is a multi-genre band who have sold more than 90 million albums around the world.

  • Governors Ball Announces After Dark Shows

    Founders Entertainment have announced the lineup for the Governors Ball After Dark shows this June. The shows take place at intimate venues across NYC in the late night hours after the festival at Citi Field ends.

    On Thursday, June 9th, the night before the start of Gov Ball, fans have a choice of three excellent shows at longstanding small venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Tove Lo headlines Irving Plaza, Beabadoobee is at Warsaw, and Ultra Q play Mercury Lounge.

    On Friday, Soccer Mommy returns to NYC after their incredibly successful 2021 tour for a headlining show at Bowery Ballroom and Benee plays further uptown at Irving Plaza.

    Saturday night is stacked six shows but standout performances include Kaytranada (DJ Set) at Elsewhere and a mysterious “Gov Ball Hall of Fame w/ Bucket Listers” performance at the Fotografiska photography museum in Gramercy. The full schedule and ticket links can be found below.

  • Big Apple Bike Messenger Turned Street Music Star Sammy Buttons Makes National TV Debut on Rachael Ray

    Before Covid-19 closed down NYC in March 2020, Sam Pritchard had spent nearly 30 years running a successful bike messenger company. But when the pandemic shuttered every business that might need his service, Pritchard decided to close up shop. But he didn’t leave the streets; he just took to them with a new name and a new passion.

    Sam Pritchard pivoted and became Sammy Buttons – New York’s funkiest, keyboard-wielding pop-up jam session/dance party host.  Together with a wide array of guesting singers, drummers, horn and guitar players, The Sammy Buttons Experience has been spreading the gift of groove heavy funk music to this shutdown weary city of 8 million for over two years, and often seven days a week. Sam and his rotating cast of collaborators have been serving it up on street corners, in parks and transit stations – attracting large, happy crowds from Wall Street to Harlem. And he’s been making a pretty good living at it too, one he says is far better than many musicians playing in NYC ‘s clubs.

    I have known Sam since the early 1990s, when his messenger company began serving my Manhattan-based PR firm. I knew his Covid career reinvention was an interesting one, something I had the chance to relate in a story I wrote for the New York Times. But it was not Covid alone that drove him to music. Like many of us, Sam had been a lifelong player in his off-hours, someone who always dreamed of playing music fulltime, just like his idols Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder.  He finally took to the street with his music, not only because Covid interrupted his business, but because of a promise made to one of his closest musician friends, the late bass player Tony Russell.  Russell was someone with whom he played with briefly on the streets who passed tragically at the beginning of the pandemic.     There’s a saying in the world of PR that “publicity begats publicity.” And that has certainly been the case for Sammy Buttons. 

    As a result of his newfound fame,  Sammy has received some great opportunities to be a part of events that take place indoors.  He and his most frequent collaborator, saxman Bernell Jones II, enjoyed a two-week residency performing at the luxurious Soundview Inn in Greenport in February, one they will reprise this coming summer. This past month, Sammy was invited to begin hosting periodic Sunday Jam sessions at Sid Gold’s Request Room, the popular piano and karaoke bar co-founded by Loser’s Lounge piano man Joe McGinty.  Sam’s legend will soon spread to Australia when a segment shot this past month airs on SBS Television, that country’s equivalent of PBS.

    On March 3rd, New York’s new street music star made his national TV debut on the much-watched Rachael Ray Show.  Though host Ray was out on a Covid quarantine and not in the studio during the taping, she and her 2 million viewers across America got to hear Sammy’s story and experience his uniquely uplifting music and personality.  Check it out here.

  • Lil Nas X To Perform Back-to-Back Nights At Radio City Music Hall

    Lil Nas X, two-time GRAMMY winner, will be touring his debut self-titled album MONTERO, this year. The acclaimed artist will be performing two back-to-back nights at Radio City Music Hall, on September 20th and 21st.

    The 23-year-old rapper from Atlanta quickly rose to popularity in 2019, after the release and successful marketing campaign of his country-rap song “Old Town Road.” Critics were quick to judge the song, however, arguing that the song was not country enough to deserve its #16 spot on Billboards Hot Country Songs Chart, and it was quickly moved to the Hot Rap Songs Chart the following week. This controversy shot Lil Nas X to notoriety and the song eventually shot to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

    This quick fame would even land him a featured remix of the song with country-pop star Billy Ray Cyrus, which would become the longest-running #1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history after 19 weeks atop the chart.

  • Swing Time With Judy Carmichael Is Coming To The Cortland Repertory Theatre

    Jazz pianist Judy Carmichael will perform at the Cortland Repertory Theatre May 7, and bring the “Swing” to Spring. “Swing Time” will be a celebratory night of swing era music, along with the Great American Songbook.

    Carmichael, also known as “Stride”, is a grammy nominated pianist/vocalist who is proficient at playing stride and swing music. She has endless performances, from popular venues, to private recitals, to appearances on the radio or television.

    Her impact on music is not only within the states, but around the world. In fact, under the United States Information Agency, Carmichael has toured in India, Portugal, Brazil and Singapore. Furthermore, her talents have spread from the most exquisite venues like Carnegie Hall to Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice. However, music is not Carmichael’s only strong suit; she has also performed comic skits.

    Carmichael has a great understanding and knowledge of jazz, which is the root of her music. She values it so proudly, and has studied jazz from the beginning of its era to this very day. Carmichael adds a “fresh, dynamic interpretation of her own”, according to Washington Post.

    Her hard work does not go unrecognized, considering Carmichael is one of the few jazz pianists honored as a Steinway Artist. Additionally, she participated as a panelist at National Endowment for the Arts and was included in a number of jazz anthologies. Carmichael is also listed in Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry in America, Who’s Who in American Woman, American Women in Jazz, Who’s Who in the World, as well as the Encyclopedia of Jazz. 

    The Cortland Repertory Theatre administration has announced that vaccination cards are not required for attendance and although face masks are encouraged, it is not mandatory for this event. However, either of these policies may be subject to change, in accordance with the CDC.

    This one night event will be located at 24 Port Watson Street, in Cortland. Tickets are $30.00 and are currently available.

  • Genny Fest Returns to SUNY Geneseo on May 6

    Genny Fest Music Festival & Food-Truck Frenzy will return to the SUNY Geneseo campus on May 6. This year’s performances includes Toronto-based alternative/indie band FXRRVST (pronounced “forest”) with SUNY Geneseo alumna Allison Leah opening.

    Headliner FXRRVST was nominated, in 2017, for Best Indie Act at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. The storytelling duo recently release their project Dear Friend (Pt. 1 & 2) on WGSU, SUNY Geneseo’s college radio station. The self-described a eco-friendly band has a “commitment to sustainability and environmentalism”.  

    Allison Leah is an independent singer-songwriter from Nashville, by way of New York. Leah recently released her latest single “sorry for myself”. She also released a full length EP, Fly Home, in 2018. She returns to the SUNY Geneseo campus after having gradated in 2018. WGSU as the first US radio station to air her music when it played the song “A Love Song” in 2017.

    Genny Fest will feature performances from SUNY Geneseo dance groups. The festival will also have six food trucks that will be serving food throughout the event.

    “The WGSU staff has been working hard putting Genny Fest together and we can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the event,” said Sarah DeVito, WGSU marketing director. “It should be a fun-filled day for all!”

    The annual music festival is a joint production between SUNY Geneseo and the campus’ college radio station WGSU. This year marks the return of Genny Fest after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Genny Fest will take place at SUNY Geneseo’s MacVittie College Union Plaza from 4–7 p.m. on May 6. The rain location will be at College Union Ballroom should their be inclement weather.

  • Rhiannon Giddens to Curate Carnegie Hall Series

    Rhiannon Giddens has curated a four-concert perspective series for Carnegie Hall. During the 2022-23 season, she will appear in four performances alongside a number of other talented instrumentalists.

    The performances will focus on music traditions from different regions and backgrounds as well as the history of Black influence in American music. The first performance, “When I Am Laid in Earth”, will feature Giddens alongside Francesco Turrisi in Weill Recital Hall. Together, they will use a range of musical sources to showcase the wonders of classical and modern music.

    The following performance will bring together banjo players Amythyst Kiah, Leyla McCalla and Allison Russell for “Songs of Our Native Daughters”. Giddens will contribute to a tale of struggle and resistance while bringing a Black female perspective.

    In Stern Auditorium, Giddens and Francesco Turrisi will welcome bassist Jason Sypher for “They’re Calling Me Home”, a Grammy winning album recorded in Ireland during the pandemic.

    She will conclude her perspective series with a performance featuring women and nonbinary members of the Silk Road Ensemble, along with Tuscarora and Taino singer-songwriter, Pura Fé. The final show will give audiences a taste of Indigenous North America.

    Giddens is an award winning singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist that has previously performed at Carnegie Hall in 2017. Her album, Freedom Highway, was the focus of her Sing Sing Correctional Facility concert. She has also appeared  alongside other artists on Hopes & Dreams, an album of lullabies written by NY parents through Carnegie Hall’s Lullaby Project.

  • Grammy Winner Angélique Kidjo Release “Choose Love” Remix

    Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo released a remix and music video of her song “Choose Love”. The “Choose Love” remix comes on the back of her Grammy Award win for Best Global Music Album for her album Mother Nature in April.

    Mother Nature was released in June of 2021. The album, met with career-best raves, tackles major issues like the climate crisis and the struggle for freedom. The album continues to reinforce her status as a true icon of African music as she was joined by a host of young African stars which she influenced, including Burna Boy, Mr. Eazi, Yemi Alade and Sampa The Great.  

    Kidjo is a 12-time GRAMMY nominee and 5-time winner. In addition to her win for Best Global Music Album she was also nominated twice in the Best Global Music Performance category. Once as a lead artist on “Do Yourself” from Mother Nature, featuring Burna Boy, and again as a featured artist for the recording of “Blewu” by Yo-Yo Ma.

    In 2021 Kidjo was named to TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list, where Alicia Keys wrote her introduction. She also had several notable performances including at the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony and a sold out Carnegie Hall in November. She was also cast in a film alongside Viola Davis. 

    The “Choose Love” remix was produced by Grammy nominee Synematik. The music video for the “Choose Love” remix was shot by famed British photographer Platon, who was recently the subject of a Netflix documentary.

    “Angélique shows us the true meaning of leadership today,” Platon said. “With this song, ‘Choose Love’ she inspires us with her extraordinary music talent, her compassion, optimism, and hope.

    This is Platon’s first collaboration with Kidjo.

    “I love Platon’s passion for Art and people,” Kidjo said. “He has photographed the leaders of these world but also people from all over the World, from all social classes and all origins. He has shown us through his art the common humanity we all share.”

    This summer Kidjo will embark on her first foray into musical theater with Yemandja. Named for Yoruban deity, the musical is a work of magical realism set against the backdrop of slavery in 19th-century West Africa. It is a parable about gods and humans that illuminates through song what can happen when people are robbed of their culture.

  • Consider the Source Ends Spring Tour with Surprise

    On Friday, April 29th, Consider the Source brought their eclectic instruments and extreme talents to Lark Hall in Albany during the last leg of their “Acoustic-Electric Hybrid” tour to celebrate the release of their album Hybrid Vol. 1: Such As A Mule. Lark Hall was the perfect space to enjoy a slightly toned-down version of this hard-rocking band. To kick off what was one of the most musically interesting night’s of my life was delightful duo Cosmal.

    Ryan Coyle and Alison Lazarus are two delightfully well-rounded and multi-talented individuals and they created an amazing group called Cosmal. While Ryan creates incredible electronica jams with his midi-controller, chaos pad, and guitar, Alison live-paints and sings. This band is made of two truly unique individuals with an incredible idea — you should check them out as soon as you get the chance.

    Consider the Source

    Consider the Source is easily one of the most unique bands I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. They call their sound “Sci-fi Middle Eastern Prog Fusion” and if you think that sounds interesting you should hear what they actually sound like. If you’re looking for something different from the usual stuff, this is your band.

    Hybrid Vol. 1: Such As A Mule

    John Ferrara (bass), Jeff Mann (percussion), and Gabriel Marin (guitar, etc) have truly created a unique, eclectic, and delightful sound. Friday night’s show was a rare treat — fans of the band had never seen them play in such an environment before. They played their new album in its entirety and threw a couple of older songs in there too. They used instruments many of us had never seen or heard before as well including a Banjo Bass, Dombra, Uzbek/Tajik Dutar, Doumbek, a Ukulele Bass, and many more. The set was certainly a departure from what we were used to, but it was killer nonetheless.

    The Interview: A Surprise Announcement

    I sat down with Ferrara, Mann, and Marin before their set. They told me that they had finished recording Hybrid Vol. 1: Such As A Mule right before the pandemic hit. They used the lockdown to finish mastering the album. However, and here is the big surprise: they also spent that time recording a second album — keep your eyes on their social media to find out when you can check it out. And from what I am told, it will be their hardest-hitting album yet.

    Tour inspiration

    Consider the Source has such a ground-breaking sound, they could just call it a day and continue to tour for as long as they can handle it. However, they continually want to change it up for their fans. And that was the whole idea behind their most recent album as well as the tour they just completed to celebrate the release. The venues they visited for this tour were the type where you sit down, which is a huge departure from the dancehalls they usually frequent. In short, they wanted to change things up for their fans, and wow — they delivered.

    The Lake George Arts Project has just announced its 2022 summer concert series. The shows start at 7pm on Wednesday Nights in July and August at Shepard Park. Additionally, there will be a bonus fireworks concert on Thursday, August 25th at no cost.
