New York City folk-pop trio, Morningsiders, release their newest album, I’ve Got A Song on June 17. Known for their unique style of indie music, this album encompasses a set of their latest quirky tunes. Their sound is often described as music that bridges the gap between virtuosic, intimate live moments and gorgeously atmospheric studio-produced pop.

Morningsiders "I've Got A Song" Has Just Released

The Morningsiders are NYC-based, having met and formed at Columbia University. The band is comprised of Magnus Ferguson (vocals/guitar), Reid Jenkins (fiddle/vocals), and Robert Frech (piano).

The band has evolved from an Americana-collective into today’s guitar-fiddle-piano trio more focused on song craft and production. Originally, the band was comprised of rotating members and improvisatory performances.

Morningsiders had first made a name for themselves on a national level when their song “Empress” went viral, topping Spotify’s Viral 50 in 2015. Shortly after, they ended but being featured in a Starbucks commercial featuring Oprah Winfrey. “Empress” now has over 44 million streams on Spotify to this day.

Songs like “Hang the Cedar” and “Bowery Ballroom” have an emotional yet upbeat melody, with pop-punk highlights. The lyrics are heartfelt and gentle, making us reminisce about a past or current relationship.

Morningsiders "I've Got A Song" Has Just Released

Currently, the trio are set to expand their popularity using their quirky sonic maneuvering, while still retaining the moments of brilliant musicianship. I’ve Got A Song encompasses this new style overall, making it an easy hit.

Overall, “I’ve Got A Song” encompasses a gentle yet pop-punk side to the Morningsiders. They have evolved from an Americana-collective into today’s incredible guitar-fiddle-piano trio, you won’t want to miss out on this new album.

  • Free Show: Fandango At The Wall At St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park in July

St. Ann’s Warehouse announced its upcoming Fandango At The Wall concert in Brooklyn Bridge Park on July 9th. Arturo O’Farrill and 30 musicians from the U.S., Mexico and beyond reunite to celebrate the 300-year old son Jarocho sound of Mexico. Based in the Brooklyn Bridge Park, St. Ann’s Warehouse plays a vital role on the global cultural landscape as an American artistic home for international companies of distinction, American avant-garde masters and talented emerging artists ready to work on a grand scale.

Fandango At The Wall brooklyn bridge park
    Fandango At The Wall Concert

Based on the original 1860’s Tobacco Warehouse, St. Ann’s Warehouse is a waterfront theater that opened in October 2015 in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park. The building includes a Studio, a welcoming foyer/exhibit space, and The Max Family Garden. It has reconfigured its facade and rooftop balconies for public art presentations during the pandemic.

The Fandango at the Wall concert is rooted in the Fandango Fronterizo Festival, a cross-border fandango, or jam session, that has taken place annually since 2008 and features son jarocho music from Veracruz, Mexico, performed on both sides of the Tijuana/San Diego border wall.

The musicians participating in this upcoming concert include Arturo O’Farrill, the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Conga Patria Son Jarocho Collective (featuring Patricio Hidalgo, Ramon Guitierrez, Tacho Utrera, Wendy Cao Romero, Fernando Guadarrama, and Jorge Francisco Castillo); Mexican trio The Villalobos Brothers; American jazz violinist Regina Carter; American cellist and composer Akua Dixon; Iraqi-American oud virtuoso Rahim AlHaj; and the Iranian-born tar and setar player Sahba Motalebbi.

Former BAM President Karen Brooks Hopkins has joined St. Ann’s Warehouse and the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance as Executive Producer of the concert.

Fandango at the Wall is especially important now, when so many things are going wrong and such horrible violence is wreaking havoc on our nation. It’s more important than ever to state that borders don’t exist—they’re manmade. Brooklyn Bridge Park is the perfect place to express that, because of the diversity and the wonderful way that New Yorkers come together. We look forward to celebrating humanity, celebrating togetherness, celebrating peace with you through the music of son jarocho.

    Arturo O’Farrill

The Fandango at the Wall concert will be presented July 9 at 7pm at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1, which is located at 2 Furman St, Brooklyn, NY 11201. In case of rain, the concert will be held inside St. Ann’s Warehouse (45 Water St, Brooklyn, NY 11201).

Fandango at the Wall is free to the public. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required. Learn more and RSVP at stannswarehouse.org.

  • )) R.I.S.E (( Releases Spiritual Debut Album

On June 10, a Brooklyn-based collective )) R.I.S.E (( released their debut album, WAVES OF POSSIBILITY. The five-track album layers unique instrumentation and spoken word to bring listeners a spiritual, connected experience.

)) R.I.S.E. (( WAVES OF POSSIBILITY debut album cover

The artists behind the album, Boshko Boskovic, Gabriel Wade, and Rebecca Nison, said that the practice of Reiki was integral to each recording session. Reiki is a form of Japanese energy healing. R.I.S.E. is an acronym for Reiki-Infused Sound Experiences and each track on this freshman album amplifies that idea.

The process of creating this album was healing in our own right as well as permitting to amplify our own expression. We met weekly in Gabriel’s music studio in Park Slope, where we recognized that the process of recording meant we would need to be vulnerable while using our voices.

    – )) R.I.S.E. ((

Produced by Muse Music, the sound experience of WAVES OF POSSIBILITY is multi-layered and dimensional. With ambient sound, chants, and soft-spoken messages, listeners can sit back and focus on the healing atmosphere of the album. The tracks convey a range of emotions, the sounds developing and changing throughout the length of each track.

The tracks include complex sounds, leaving any listener wondering what they may hear next.  There are traditional instruments intertwined throughout the album, like electric guitar and bass riffs, and drum beats. However, the use of unique sounds such as birds chirping or bells chiming within the layered humming vibrations really drives the listening experience.

With hypnotic-like harmonics and sparse lyrics, the tracks envelop any listener into an almost other-worldly and spiritual space. The combinations of sounds are uniquely creative and compelling.

Each of the 5 tracks is also accompanied by a video that showcases the work of 5 visual artists. The first of the videos, for the 12-minute track “Message for the Moon,” includes art from Skylar Smith. The visuals complement the audio foundations of the debut album, allowing listeners to get more of a multi-sensory experience.
