  • Inaugural Elmwood Summerfest to be held in the heart of Buffalo

Despite recent troubling times, the city of Buffalo has continued to band together and are now working towards showcasing the best of their city. The Beer Keep, Jack Rabbit, and Breezy Burrito Bar have announced the inaugural Elmwood Summerfest, to be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022. The festival is meant to celebrate summertime in Buffalo including beer, food, community, togetherness and, of course, music.

Elmwood Summerfest will showcase over 15 bands and performers on a large outdoor stage located between 1000 & 1010 Elmwood Avenue. Besides musical performances, Buffalo Eats will host its first annual Hot Dog Eating Competition, followed by a Live Art installation, and a Genesee Brewing beer tent featuring your favorite beers, ciders and seltzers. The music lineup will spotlight acts from Buffalo as well as the Rochester area. It will feature bands like Sideways, Witty Tarbox, Farrow, Grosh, American Nosebleed, Folkfaces, Well Worn Boot, Johnny Hart and the Mess, Kevin Sampson and the Night Shift, plus more.

For a next-level festival experience, The Beer Keep, Jack Rabbit and Breezy Burrito Bar will be opening their doors exclusively to VIP pass-holders. At all three locations, VIP pass holders will be able to enjoy air conditioning, private bathrooms, fully stocked bars, patio access and lounging areas.

    Why Elmwood Summerfest is Happening

Recently, the Bidwell Park area of Buffalo’s Elmwood Village has been rejuvenated and seen a rebirth as an entertainment and hospitality destination.

One of the many wonderful things about the Elmwood Village is its overwhelming sense of surprise. Surprise at what you see coming down the street or around a corner, something you missed on a previous visit. It’s that sense of endless possibility that we invite people to come experience at the first Elmwood Summerfest.

    – Cory Muscato, owner of the Beer Keep

Elmwood Summerfest is a product of the new neighborhood bars, restaurants and venues (The Beer Keep, Jack Rabbit, Breezy Burrito Bar, among others) coming together to put on a neighborhood focused street festival. Because of the location and limited footprint of the festival this first year entry is limited to 21+

Music has been a cornerstone of Jack Rabbit since our initial idea phase. Expanding that outside of our walls has been top priority since day one, we’re super excited to be working with our best buds, and neighbors, to bring this amazing event directly to the street.

    – Josh Mullin, Owner/Operator of Jack Rabbit.

    How to Purchase Tickets

Festival gates will open at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26 with music and performances continuing all-day. General admission festival passes will be $25 in advance with a limited number of VIP passes available for $50. Tickets are available immediately at elmwoodsummerfest.com

  • Governors Ball 2022 Schedule and Stages Announced

Governors Ball Music Festival 2022 is less than a month away, and festival organizers have announced the stage layout and daily schedule. Initially available in the Gov Ball app for the first 24 hours, fans can now start putting together and sharing their own custom schedules.

The schedule this year does an excellent job of avoiding any major conflicts and the layout of the venue allows fans to move easily between stages. Some notable overlaps include JPEGMAFIA vs. Channel Tres on Friday, YG vs. Diesel or Flume vs. Halsey on Saturday, and Kaytranada vs. J. Cole on Sunday.

    governors ball 2022 schedule

Last year’s Governors Ball lineup included massive headliners such as Billie Eilish, A$AP Rocky, and Post Malone. The festival’s first year at Citi Field was a massive success, despite their departure from the traditional Randall’s Island venue, with over 150,000 people in attendance reported. The more centrally located venue in the heart of Flushing boasts easy access to the subway, bus, and pedestrian throughways giving fans much easier accessibility.

Returning to Citi Field from June 10th to June 12th, 2022, the stacked lineup features headliners Halsey, Kid Cudi, and J. Cole along with a slew of up and coming and long-standing artists. Governors Ball has always showcased local New York artists on the bill, and this year is no different.

Singer and songwriter Gus Dapperton was born and raised in Warwick, and ska-punk band Millington hail from Albany. Plastic Picnic features two duos from the Pacific Northwest who met in Brooklyn after moving to the city and formed a new band. The overall lineup represents a melting pot of musical  tastes, styles, and regions, but that’s a story as old as New York itself.

Governors Ball also successfully mimics New York’s long history of dive bar concerts with their Bud Light Seltzer Sessions. Embedded into the festival layout, this small stage features some of the names on the lineup who will perform a more intimate set at the casual dive bar style stage. The magic of a festival happens when you round a corner and bump into something unexpected, and these more casual performances provide just that.

    governors ball 2022 schedule

Outside of the music, the star of the weekend will certainly be the food. Queens County is one of the most diverse municipalities anywhere in the world and a festival that calls Queens home must have the food to prove it. There will be classic NYC staples such as Roberta’s Pizza, Doughnuttery donuts, and Williamsburg’s finest fried chicken with Sweet Chick.

Choose between Destination Dumplings and Disos’ Italian sandwiches, Gordos Cantina tacos or Empanada Papas. And it wouldn’t be Queens without the largest Greek community outside of Greece represented with Efes Greek Kitchen and Souvlaki GR. Check out the entire food lineup below.

    governors ball 2022 schedule

With the festival rapidly approaching, tickets are still available. Third and final tier 3-Day GA tickets are still on sale as well as single day tickets to all three days and the VIP and Platinum ticket packages. Full ticket details can be found HERE.

NYS Music will be on the ground again this year at Governors Ball, so stay tuned for full artist photo galleries from this year’s festival. In the meantime, check out some highlights from the 2021 festival by David Reichmann and Steve Malinski.

  • Syracuse Jazz Festival Back After Five Year Hiatus

The Syracuse Jazz Festival is back after a five-year hiatus. Since 1981, the Syracuse Jazz Fest has served as Central NY’s oldest, longest-running, and most-attended festival. It has received four International Awards and 30 National & Regional Awards.

The Syracuse Jazz Fest will run for three nights from Thursday, June 23 through Saturday, June 25. It will feature international and national artists on the Clinton Square Main Stage in downtown Syracuse. There will also be performances by 20 of Syracuse’s finest jazz groups, who will be appearing at clubs, bars, restaurants, and performance venues downtown.

Festival Founder Frank Malfitano thanked Amazon for sponsoring the event in a statement.

We couldn’t possibly be more grateful to NYS Assemblyman Al Stirpe, Onondaga County Executive J Ryan McMajon, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, US Senator Chuck Schumer and Amazon for co-sponsoring and bringing Syracuse Jazz Fest back to Downtown Syracuse this June. I know we’re all thrilled to see this longtime Syracuse summertime tradition coming back, and that would simply not have been possible without Amazon’s support.

A lot of legendary artists have performed at the festival, including Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, and Sonny Rollins. These performances gave the festival international acclaim.

The Syracuse Jazz Festival is back with a stellar lineup of world-renowned artists. And perhaps the best part about the annual festival that will be happening for three nights in June is that admission is free.
