  • 2nd Annual Rail Rider Jamboree Coming to Ellicottville

    The second annual Rail Rider Jamboree is coming to Ellicottville on March 18, 2023, at Holiday Valley Resort, with a stellar lineup comprised of new and old faces.

    The Rail Rider Jamboree is a weekend filled with music, skiing, snowboarding competitions,
    brews and so much more. The promoters of Borderland Music + Arts Festival teamed up with the Holiday Valley Resort to bring this weekend to fans. The Jamboree is outdoors with music starting around 1 p.m. on March 18, with doors opening at 12 p.m. at the resort in the field on Rt. 219 across from the SnowPine chair.

    The Jamboree will kick off on March 17 with rail jam contests and live music, slopeside at the base of the mountain at the Rail Park, with some free music by a funk improv band from Buffalo, at the Holiday Valley Cabana Bar from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. The next day will bring some exciting music to the resort, like headliners Dark Star Orchestra. They have performed for over 25 years and at some 3,100 shows, performing a show based on a set list from the Grateful Dead’s 30 years of extensive touring.

    Also headlining the Rail Rider Jamboree is Eggy, improv rockers comprised of guitarist and vocalist Jake Brownstein, keyboardist Dani Battat, bassist Michael Goodman and drummer Alex Bailey. Another headliner includes Mike Gantzer, guitarist of groove rock band Aqueous, who is assembling a band just for Rail Rider. Also performing will be local bands Grub from Buffalo and the New Orleans style marching band Brass Machine.

    Lodging with options to add on lift tickets and other resort activities are available to book with
    the resort today, with package Jamboree tickets to be announced. The event is for all ages, and tickets are on sale now.

  • Next Jazz Legacy Announces Performance at City Winery to Kick off Winter Jazzfest

    Next Jazz Legacy announces a celebration of its monumental first year with a performance at the NYC Winter JazzFest at City Winery on Jan. 12.

    Next Jazz Legacy is a program by New Music USA and the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice that addresses gender and racial inequities by providing opportunities for mentorship and professional development to those who have been underrepresented in jazz. Within their cohort is a lineup of emerging women and nonbinary musicians. The program is co-founded by NEA Jazz Master and founder of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice Terri Lyne Carrington and New Music USA President & CEO Vanessa Reed.

    Those involved with the program were able to learn valuable skills, and even had apprenticeships with jazz icons like Esperanza Spalding, Lizz Wright, Marcus Miller, Mary Halvorson, Tia Fuller, Linda May Han Oh, and Chris Potter. Throughout the year, awardees performed on prestigious stages at local and national jazz events throughout the country, including at the Kennedy Center’s Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival and as part of a special Livestream Concert produced by WBGO.

    On Jan 12. Next Jazz Legacy will be partaking in the Winter Jazzfest at City Winery. Doors open at 5 p.m., and a special panel at 5:30 titled “Why the Jazz World Needs Gender Equity” will occur. The panel will discuss the importance of initiatives like NJL for women and non-binary jazz artists, and how those artists are shaping the music’s future. At 7 p.m., NJL will perform, featuring all seven of the inaugural awardees, who are Ivanna Cuesta (Drums), Lexi Hamner (Vocals Trombone), Keyanna Hutchinson (Guitar), Alexis Lombre (Piano/Keys), Anastassiya Petrova (Keys/Piano), Loke Risberg (Guitar) and Kalia Vandever (Trombone).

    The last event of the evening starts at 8 p.m., and it is New Standards live. Curated by Terri Lyne Carrington and featuring an astounding lineup of musicians, this debut performance will celebrate the recent publication of New Standards, a songbook featuring lead sheets by 101 women composers, the first of its kind.   • The 2023 Scarsdale Music Festival Announced for June

    The 2023 Scarsdale Music Festival will take place on June 3, 2023, at the Scarsdale Village. This is the third annual event, and they are excited to announce another edition of the beloved festival.

    The Scarsdale Music Festival is a family-friendly event that brings together people of all ages to celebrate their love of music, food, and community. Bands from Scarsdale as well as from the greater Westchester County and New York metropolitan areas will perform throughout the day on one of two main stages. They are also beginning an expanded regional talent search to welcome new sounds and new followers to the downtown area. Bands who are interested in performing at the festival can fill out this form to be considered.

    Restaurants in the downtown area will open their doors, and a variety of food trucks and other food vendors will line the streets. For those 21 and over, there will be a ZACHYS wine-tasting experience in addition to craft beer and spirits tastings. There will be an expanded family fun zone, with balloon artists, face painters, arts and crafts, games, musical demonstrations, family activities, and much more!

    A portion of the Scarsdale Music Festival ticket proceeds will go to the Center for Cancer Care at White
    Plains Hospital, which will assist the center with funding third-party transportation for better access to appointments and provide specialized staff as “patient navigators” to assist in understanding the cancer treatment process. For more information about the festival, go here.

  • 46th Annual Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival Reveals Lineup of Music Icons

    The Saratoga Performing Arts Center will play host to the 46th Annual Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival on Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, 2023, for a full two-day and two-stage thrilling festival experience. The line-up is anchored by musical legends including Bonnie Raitt, Pat Metheny, Angelique Kidjo, and twenty-one more musical ensembles, who will be bringing a variety of genres ranging from jazz to roots, funk, blues and beyond.

    Grammy Award-winner and Rock and Roll of Fame Inductee Bonnie Raitt will be making her highly suspended return to the festival since 1988. She is known for her blend of blues, R&B, rock and pop classics like “I Can’t Make You Love Me,”, “Something to Talk About” and “Nick of Time”.

    On Saturday, the festival’s major draw will be the explosive 19-piece megaband Snarky Puppy, which is making its second appearance. The enthralling jazz, rock, and funk trio is described as “An exultant throwdown of brilliant danceability” by the Village Voice. The group has won four Grammy Awards, the most recent one in 2021 for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

    Jazz and funk guitarist Cory Wong, best known as a frequent guest rhythm guitarist for Vulfpeck as well as for his ebullient solo material; eight-piece psychedelia and funk fiery band St. Paul & The Broken Bones; jazz and rock drum dynamo Cindy Blackman Santana, who is the regular touring drummer for Carlos Santana and previously Lenny Kravitz; and “Silky-voiced rising jazz star” (New York Times).

    Having originally been founded as “the Newport Jazz Festival at Saratoga”, the musical event was renamed Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival in 1998 and is one of the most prominent jazz festivals in North America.

    On Saturday, June 24, performances will begin at 11 a.m. on the Charles R. Wood “Jazz Discovery” Stage and 12 p.m. on the Amphitheater Stage, and at 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., respectively, on Sunday, June 25. Fans may enjoy a magnificent arts and crafts market, artist CD signings, and fresh and diverse culinary selections in addition to two nonstop days of outstanding music on two stages.   • Goose, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Ween, and More to Headline Peach Music Festival

    Today the lineup was announced for the Peach Music Festival, a four-day event coming to Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA from June 29 to July 2.

    The Peach Music Festival was created in 2012 as the first-ever Allman Brothers Band-inspired festival in the Northeast and has quickly evolved into one of the most highly-anticipated summer musical events loved by music enthusiasts from across the nation. It is a one-of-a-kind festival, as it features food and craft vendors on the grounds and access to the scenic Montage Mountain Ski Resort’s large water park.

    The 2023 edition of the festival sees Goose, Tedeschi Trucks Band, My Morning Jacket, and Ween headlining. For the past few years, Goose and the Tedeschi Trucks Band have been performing, as they are popular acts people love to go see. My Morning Jacket released their self-titled album last year, and have been touring all year. Ween has yet to play at the Peach Music Festival, and their alternative rock style will be a great addition to the diverse range of artists on the bill.

    Other great artists will be performing at the unique festival, including Duane Betts, Andy Frasco & The U.N., TAUK ft. Kanika Moore, Magic City Hippies, Dogs In A Pile, and more. There will also be features, like founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, Jaimoe, performing as Jaimoe and Friends, duo Brother and Sister, and a special appearance by Trouble No More, featuring Brandon “Taz” Niederaurer (Guitar, Vocals), Daniel Donato (Guitar, Vocals), Dylan Niederaurer (Bass Guitar), Jack Ryan (Drums), Lamar Williams Jr. (Vocals), Nikki Glaspie (Drums), Peter Levin (Keys) and Roosevelt Collier (Pedal Steel Guitar), performing the Allman Brothers Band album Brothers & Sisters.

  • Peach Music Festival Announces 2023 Dates

    The Peach Music Festival 2023 has announced the dates for the season, running from June 29 through July 2 at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA.

    Last year’s lineup included Billy Strings, Trey Anastasio Band, Goose, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and many more. The lineup has not been announced yet, but the Peach Music Festival 2023 weekend will run from June 29 to July 2. A limited number of Early Bird passes will go on sale beginning on Friday, Dec. 9 at 12 p.m. including VIP passes, reserved seating, glamping, travel packages, as well as a special four-day, general admission $99 lawn ticket.

  • NYC Winter Jazzfest Returning in January

    The NYC Winter Jazzfest is returning for its 19th year in mid-January, with a weeklong series of events at over a dozen venues with over 70 performers total.

    Beginning on January 12, opening night will feature the first-ever onstage presentation of jazz drummer Terri Lyne Carrington’s New Standards Live project. New Standards Live is composed of her book “New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers” and “New Standards, Vol. 1,” an album bringing to life music from this book. Musicians in January’s performance include Michele Rosewoman, Melanie Charles, Michael Mayo, Linda May Han Oh, Kris Davis, Tia Fuller, Caroline Davis, Helen Sung and Mary Halvorson.

    Opening night will also showcase French accordionist Vincent Peirani and French saxophonist Émile Parisien leading their respective ensembles, with trumpeter Avishai Cohen joining with his quartet in this concert at LPR. Lastly, UK radio broadcaster, DJ, and record label owner Gilles Peterson will DJ a set at Nublu.

    Next are the festival’s marathons in Manhattan on the 13th at (Le) Poisson Rouge, City Winery, City Winery Loft, Zinc Bar, the Bitter End, Nublu, and the Jazz Gallery, and in Brooklyn on the 14th at Brooklyn Opera House, Brooklyn Bowl, Superior Ingredients, Baby’s All Right, National Sawdust, Loove Labs, Club Curious.

    The weekend will include a Marshall Allen-led Sun Arkestra set, and at Brooklyn Bowl, a tribute concert to late jazz music promoter Meghan Stabile, who passed away in June at 39. This show will feature Late Show bandleader Louis Cato, revered hip-hop producer Pete Rock with his band, the Soul Brothers, and Igmar Thomas’ Revive Big Band, as well as a number of different special guests. Both nights will run from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.

    To close the weekend, on Sunday the 15th, the festival will also present a tribute to late trumpeter Jaimie “Breezy” Branch, who passed away in August at 39. The program, starting 8 p.m. at Nublu, will feature Jeff Parker, Chad Taylor, Fay Victor, and more.

    On Tuesday the 17th at 7 p.m., pianist and composer Samora Pinderhughes will present his politically charged multimedia project “Grief & Process,” a collaborative exhibition and performance series taking place at The Kitchen’s temporary location at The Westbeth’s West Side Loft.

    At 8pm that same night, multi-instrumentalist Nate Mercereau will direct “Take Two,” in which audience and performers alike will listen to Pharoah Sanders’ 1974 album Elevation in its entirety, after which the musicians will take to the stage for a live reinterpretation of what they just heard.

    As in past years, the festival will also present a series of “Jazz Talks” for the afternoons of January 15-17, covering the topics of jazz and gender, wellness, social justice and more.

    On the 18th, NYC Winter Jazzfest will close with a concert at Nublu. Information regarding tickets and more can be found on the festival’s website.

  • Cobblestone Live Music & Arts Festival Sets 2023 Dates

    Twenty6 Productions, Buffalo Iron Works, and Lockhouse Distillery & Bar have announced dates for the 5th annual Cobblestone Live Music & Arts Festival, taking place Friday, July 14th and Saturday, July 15th in the Historic Cobblestone District of Downtown Buffalo.

    The festival will follow in the success of its 2022 dates, featuring two large outdoor stages, two indoor stages, a vendor village, a Kid’s Village, food trucks, and beverage stations throughout the festival grounds featuring craft and domestic beverages.

  • East Goes West for WONDERFRONT Music and Arts Festival 2022

    After two years under wraps, The Wonderfront Music Festival makes its first return since 2019. Running from November 18-22, 2022, Wonderfront was started by CEO Paul Thornton and is located right in the marina along the waterfront piers and parks of downtown San Diego. Wonderfront is a multi genre annual festival hosting over 80+ artists, including award winning headliners Gwen Stefani, Cage The Elephant, G-Eazy, and The Zac Brown Band.

    One of Southern California’s biggest cities, San Diego has become the perfect location for festival grounds in the SeaPort Village Marina. The Wonderfront Festival is bringing a full package to the comeback lineup for 2022 with many art installations, food vendors like Sophias Kitchen, Pressed and Smash City Burgers, in addition to hosting various retail vendors and partnering with The San Diego Museum of Art, one of the region’s largest and most-visited art museums to accentuate the visual arts experience.

    NYS Music will head west for WonderFront Music and Arts Festival and will be reporting back on members of the East Coast music community, several of which are making an appearance at Wonderfront Festival 2022. Bea Miller from Maple Wood, New Jersey, launched her career after placing 9th on X- Factor at the age of only 13. Some of her top hits from album Aurora include “Song Like You,” “Like That,” and “Motherlove.” Another artist representing the East Coast is Two Feet, originally from Manhattan and gained attention in 2016 and rose to success after releases Pink and Max Marco is Dead Right? in 2021.

  • Paramore Announces 2023 Tour with Stop at Madison Square Garden

    The infamous Paramore has announced a huge North America tour for 2023 taking place in 26 cities with support from Bloc Party, Foals, The Linda Lindas and Genesis Owusu. They will be making stops in one of NYC’s most iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden Tuesday, May 30th, 2023.

    When Paramore revealed they were recording together in January 2022 the response from music fans around the world was immediate and celebratory. Paramore’s hotly anticipated sixth studio album This Is Why will be released via Atlantic Records on February 10, 2023.  

    Paramore have become more popular than ever with a lot of their newest songs blowing up on social medias like Tiktok.  Over the last few years Paramore’s influence and popularity has snowballed, as the age of streaming organically propelled them into a position as one of the world’s biggest, most culturally compelling rock bands.

    For the band, who formed as teenagers in Tennessee, their 20-year trajectory has seen them grow from youthful outsiders to bone-fide pop culture icons. They currently have been permeating the musical landscape by inspiring a new generation of musical talent.Their forthcoming sixth album, This Is Why, is set for release on February 10th
