The Resonance Music and Arts Festival has recently announced its initial 2021 lineup featuring multiple sets from Resonance alumni, including Tipper, Lotus, Lettuce, Papadosio, Umphrey’s McGee and many more. The fest will run from September 16-18 at a new location – Marvin’s Mountaintop Campground in Masontown, West Virginia.
The lineup announcement comes on the heels of a recent change in location for the fest, now taking place at Marvin’s Mountaintop. Cooper’s Lake in Slippery Rock, PA hosted the festival in 2019, after a five-year run at Legend Valley in Thornville, OH.
We’re so happy we have a new home for Resonance at Marvin’s Mountaintop. Despite all of the challenges we’ve encountered, we’re looking forward to a fantastic weekend with a ton of incredible artists.
Casey Schneider – Founder of Resonance Fest
Resonance Festival will continue its tradition of special sets from a range of performers, including a mountain sunrise set from Tipper and a sunset set from jam-band Spafford. The special sets continue with “TAUKing Wonder,” a Stevie Wonder tribute set and Keller Williams’ “Grateful Grass,” a “psychedelic bluegrass” set inspired by the Grateful Dead.

Brooklyn-based electronic dream-pop duo Corbu has released their Lost & Found EP. The EP reimagines the title track with five new remixes, along with the original version.
Corbu, comprised of Amanda Corbu and Jonathan Graves, focuses on bringing an ethereal, even other-worldly sound to their psychedelic and ambient pop tracks. They have previously toured with Bloc Party, performed with Goldfrapp and played both Austin City Limits and Electric Forest festivals. Last year, Corfu released their debut album Crayon Soul, featuring mixing by Tame Impala and MGMT collaborator Dave Friedman.
[Corbu is] trying to lure their audience deeper into their own subconscious while giving them something to sing along to.
Corbu
On the original single version of “Lost & Found”, Corbu collaborated with Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin. Goodwin produced the track and added reggae and electronic flares, creating a laid-back yet energized soundscape.
The EP features “Lost & Found” redone five times over and explores new genres and sounds. On the “Seaside Version”, the track goes vintage and utilizes upbeat 80s synth to create a sound that could easily fit into an episode of Stranger Things. On the “JKriv Remix”, Brooklyn DJ JKriv remixed the track to fit a more booming club sound evocative of traditional house music and drum loops. The EP as a whole is perfect for the summertime.
Mac Sabbath is returning to the road in late August to bring America another heaping helping of unhealthy – but irresistible – Drive Thru Metal. Their 2021 Pop-Up-Drive-Thru Tour will feature The Outlaw Mariachi, Speedealer and Lung on select dates, and will make stops in Rochester and New York City.
Mixing raucous comedy with borderline-horrific theatrics, Mac Sabbath is the love child of heavy metal band Black Sabbath and hamburgers. Warning about the dangers of fast food, Mac Sabbath puts on a theatrical, multimedia stage show – complete with parody lyrics, a smoking grill, laser-eyed clowns, bouncing burgers and many more surprises.
Mac Sabbath has also recently revealed their first book, Drive Thru Metal, a pop-up book that takes fans on a journey through a dystopian fast-food world polluted by its own waste. There are two editions of the book, one being the Special Edition version, a limited version complete with a foil stamped cover, a Gris Grimly art print and “ketchup and mustard splattered” yellow and red vinyl.
Both editions of Drive Thru Metal include pop-up scenes highlighting “The Factory,” “The Ascension” and “Utopia” and include a vinyl with seven Mac Sabbath musical stories, including songs “Organic Funeral,” Sweet Beef” and “N.I.B.B.L.E.” Both editions are available in limited quantities and pre-orders are available on Mac Sabbath’s merch site.

June is ablaze in the Finger Lakes region for live music. Ithaca’s Lakewatch Inn offers 30 foot high wooden ceilings as part of a barn where acoustic performances shine. On Friday, June 11, London McDaniel and Tim Reynolds each performed solo in front of an intimate crowd in New York’s rolling hills.
Lakewatch Inn Ithaca NY
At 7:30 P.M, London McDaniel plugged in so we could tune out. London’s new recordAnatural Aphrodisiaca just won a 2021 SAMMY Award for Best Jazz. Three songs in to sunset, a version of Led Zeppelins “Over the Hills” and far away let the crowd know he was locked in to the Southern Tier.
After his set McDaniel was recounting about a conversation with musician Mike Stern from Miles Davis Bitches Brew album. “This history of music is so great. The greats go out of their way to do it. Every lick I play I work hard for”
London McDaniel
Tim Reynolds treated the crowd to his acoustic set at 8:30 PM sharp. His Martin 6 and 12 strings were on deck. Ups, downs, ins and outs… hair raising. The new tune “If Everything Could be OK for Just One Moment” was inspired from a Tom Petty performance at Beacon Theater. Reynolds sported an old Tom Petty road crew tee for the show. He also debuted a self taught interpretation of a Bach composition while at home during “dark times.”
Tim Reynolds
The track “Summer Night in December” off That Way felt like a nod to Tim’s last Southern Tier performance at Homer Center for the Arts in Winter 2016. Reynolds left his loop on full blast ambient mode as he exited the stage at 10:00 PM. After an 18 song set, he visits the moon outside. Returning to encore the show with his classic composition “Stream.”
Tim is a chameleon of different acoustic genres with plenty of slide guitar accents reminiscent of Duane Allman at Muscle Shoals. Reynolds reflected on an experience of once playing Duane’s Gibson on loan for a show. “That was a big moment for me, the ryhthm pick up on it was kind of muddled but it didn’t matter. I remember Carter saying that guitar sounds nasty man.”
Matthew Romano: Producer Daniel Lanois’ lyrics from “Beauty of Wynona”… “Where you been since last December?” come to mind tonight. You along with Brady Blade, Tony Hall, Ray Paczkowski, Trey and Dave all collaborated on his material.
Tim Reynolds: Did you hear his last album, Heavy Sun? He (Lanois) produced it. The vocals are like you’re in church but also has that skanky dub reggae sound. I love Tony. You know those guys when your playing a gig, he’ll look right at you? That’s him. He’s a bad ass. Tony and Brady just lock in some way that’s perfect.
TR: Daniel came to sit in with Dave and Friends for his song The Maker. Emmy Lou Harris was also there. So many people playing so I just did the melody while he sang it. He looked back smiling and I’m like its Daniel Lanois… WTF. He was so cool. During soundcheck in the empty arena he was playing this Brian Eno space funk.
MR: What was an arena act you saw from the audience for a live performance that you remember fondly?
TR:Peter Gabriel and Sting at Madison Square Garden a few years back. I’ve got the hoodie from it with me. The show was back and forth yet also a little competitive. They did each others songs. Peter Gabriel covered “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” but like Al Green style! Every time the crowd sang the chorus back to them…they waited to pause.
TR: When Peter did “The Rhythm of the Heat” with both bands I screamed like a woman and I only have one vocal chord.
MR: Nights like those are truly an influence on your own sound. How much is composition compared to layers of improvisation?
TR: Most of it now is composition. For my recent streams I went in and really learned these songs. Especially if people are going to be tuning in to watch it. It took a lot of different phases to get to that.
MR: How does it feel playing your work in front of a live audience in a small room like this before returning back to big amphitheaters later this Summer?
TR: Oh, incredible. I think this year is wide open man.
As Reynolds wrapped a two-night run at Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs. he provided a great way to end his Empire State weekend ahead of sold out shows at Lakeview Amphitheatre in Syracuse and two night run at SPAC with Dave Matthews Band.
Spinning off Friday night’s conversation in Ithaca, Reynolds opened the show with an acoustic version of Daniel Lanois song “O Marie.” After the Dust settled, Reynolds covered another Lanois classic, “The Messenger.” The notes chosen to cover this work are a great blend of Tim’s originality mixed with Lanois’ influence.
Reynolds delivered the full two-part composition of Segovia I and II for all, keeping good intentions going as he told one of the first gathered crowds in Saratoga Springs for live music the relatable origins of “To Touch Yearning.”
Tim Reynolds was able to break the barrier and relate to being in the audience for a moving musical experience. During the encore for his acoustic version of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.” The seated crowd all stood to rise and applaud with the same energy Reynolds’ had seeing Gabriel perform live at Madison Square Garden. Just another live music spring seed growing into Summer.
Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds head back to Riviera Maya, Mexico in 2022 for a three night beach run at the Moon Palace Resort.

The Grandstand Jockeys
The Grandstand Jockeys’ debut EP, Win, arrives on June 18. Its first single, “Better Days,” is a nostalgic call to long-past good times, holding out hope for their eventual return. The song is especially timely in the wake of many COVID-19 restrictions being lifted: “Time to begin, the time is now / Get yourself off the ground.” The Grandstand Jockeys’ Facebook page describes their sound as a mix of Tom Petty, Nirvana and QOTSA, but “Better Days” has the former written all over it.
Timbre Coup
Timbre Coup’s latest single, “Running Always,” is an indie rock piece that occasionally delves into prog and funk. The song’s scarce lyrics contrast its vast, sometimes trippy soundscape, replete with a sweeping electric guitar that wouldn’t sound out of place on OK Computer. The four-piece band from Albany will release their fourth studio album, Sudden Urge, on June 25.
Ciarra Fragale
Indie-pop singer-songwriter Ciarra Fragale’s self-titled EP is out on July 2. Described by Fragale as “a love letter to my anxiety (and yours),” single “It’s Only Raining” isn’t concerned with the weather so much as the stressful hypothetical situations our brains create for us. Fragale’s vocals are effortless yet passionate, and the staccatoed keys will stay with you long after listening.
On Saturday, June 19, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra will present a concert of 18th-century baroque music for strings and harpsichord at the Broome County Forum Theatre.
The concert, titled “Back to Baroque,” will be the orchestra’s first performance at the Forum since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of concerts over a year ago. The program, conducted by the Philharmonic’s Music Director Daniel Hege, will include Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3,” Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto,” Vivaldi Sinfonias, and more. After a year spent performing socially distanced concerts and online events, the Binghamton Philharmonic’s first live showing will be a breath of fresh air for everyone.
Daniel Hege is widely recognized as one of America’s finest conductors, earning critical acclaim for his fresh interpretations of the standard repertoire and for his commitment to creative programming. He was appointed to the position of Music Director of the Binghamton Philharmonic in May 2018.
“We are so thrilled to present live, orchestral music again, especially after such a difficult year,” says Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra’s Executive Director Paul Cienniwa. “While we have to follow certain limitations of COVID-19 safety measures, such as smaller audience and ensemble size, we are still very pleased to end our season with live music in our beloved concert hall. Baroque music has many musical fireworks to offer, so I am happy to end our season with a bang!”
The concert, lasting an hour, will take place at both 6 pm and 8 pm. In order to follow COVID safety protocols, seating is limited to 250 patrons per performance of The Broome County Forum Theatre which is a 1,500-seat performing arts theatre. Because of the unique seating arrangement for this concert, all tickets must be pre-purchased by phone. For more information, contact the Binghamton Philharmonic at 607-723-3931 or visit the Binghamton Philharmonic website.

To honor the legacy of community and camaraderie that Levon fostered, Umphrey’s McGee will present Rambling On, an evening of mostly true tales live from Helm Studios. The trappings of inner-city life are evident in many of those who have had to experience it. To the end that growing up in or near a housing project can lead to many tumultuous situations. The terrain of public housing is a breeding ground for congregation. Factor in the extreme poverty, and public housing projects have become hubs for all kinds of illegal drug and gang activities.
Stack Bundles (left) and Max B (right)
It doesn’t take much to falter in those conditions and for some, making it out without succumbing to the influences of the streets can feel like walking in quicksand. With that in mind, when someone has a chance to escape the repetitive cycle of implodement, there are contrasting feelings and behaviors from peers. Some live vicariously through the impending defect-ee, while it breeds contempt within others.
Such was the case for up-and-coming rap star, Stack Bundles. Hailing from Redfern Houses in Far Rockaway, Queens, one of the most dangerous housing projects in New York, where death had become the norm, according to the New York Times.
Mourning the murdered has become a familiar routine at the Redfern Houses in Far Rockaway, Queens. First there are the makeshift memorials, with flowers and candles and a smattering of personal items. Then, the dead often get more permanent epitaphs scrawled on the walls of the apartment house they called home.
Who Was Stack Bundles?
Jim Jones (left) and Stack Bundled (right)
Born Rayquon Elliott, the slain rapper had made a name for himself with his “compelling raps, magnetic personality, and unique fashion sense.” Which gave him the attention of Dipset general, Jim Jones. Along came ByrdGang (Jones’ crew) affiliation and a prominent feature on Jim Jones’ “Weatherman,” with Lil Wayne.
The record’s success meant Stack Bundles had enough gravitas to go on tour with Lil Wayne, where he began to cultivate relationships with Wayne and other important figures in the music industry. Moreover, he already had strong ties with Jones, Wayne, DJ Clue, Lupe Fiasco and Funk Flex, amongst others. It seemed as though a record deal and a major-label debut was inevitable.
Unfortunately, not every rags-to-riches tale comes to fruition and on June 11, 2007, a 24-year-old Stack Bundles was fatally shot as he was heading into his apartment building in the morning’s wee hours. In detail, Stack spent the night out with friends at a Manhattan nightclub, he was approached by an unknown number of assailants and shot in his head and neck as he entered his building, according to relatives and acquaintances.
Per routine, Stack’s friends and family celebrated his life with a small memorial outside of his building, with candles, copies of his CD’s and a White Castle bag from the fatal night he killed.
All in all, Stack Bundles is a Far Rockaway legend. However, his legend serves as a harrowing reminder that no matter how close one is to making it out, the drawbacks of the inner-city wait for no one.
