  • Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime arrives at Paper Mill Island on August 13

Creative Concerts is excited to help bring live music back to Baldwinsville this summer, presenting Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime on Friday, August 13th at Paper Mill Island.

    badfish paper mill

Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime – The phenomenon known as Sublime, arguably the most energetic, original and uniquely eclectic band to emerge from any scene, anywhere, ended with the untimely death of lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Brad Nowell in May of 1996. But encompassing the sense of place and purpose long associated with Sublime’s music, Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime continues to channel the spirit of Sublime with a fury not felt for some time.

What separates Badfish from other tribute bands is that they have replicated Sublime’s essence, developing a scene and dedicated following most commonly reserved for label- driven, mainstream acts. Badfish make their mark on the audience by playing with the spirit of Sublime. They perform not as Sublime would have, or did, but as Badfish does!
Doors open at 6pm with music starting at 7pm. This is a rain or shine event.

While there is no public parking on Paper Mill Island, there is plenty of parking within walking distance. Public parking is available near the intersection of Oswego Street and E Genesee Street. Once you are parked the venue is a quick walk across the bridge.

This is a general admission show and all ages are welcome. Tickets for Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime at Paper Mill Island are on sale now at CCTix.com, at $20 in advance and $25 day of show.

Cohoes, located in the northeast corner of Albany County is home to The Cohoes Music Hall, the center of the village and houses hundreds of local music concerts every year. Starting in late July, the venue will reopen, and fans from all across town will gather here to enjoy performances ranging from rock to folk to stand up comedy.

    cohoes music hall

The Cohoes Music Hall was built in 1874 by two businessmen looking to bring live music to the center of town. Since its opening, the hall has hosted many performers such as Buffalo Bill Cody, John Phillip Sousa, Pat Rooney, and more. In 1905, after about 30 years of financial struggles, the bank chose to shut down the venue when the roof gave up and there was too small of a budget to repair it.

Many years later in 1986, the town funded over a million dollars to restore and reopen Cohoes Music Hall. Since its reopening, it has been a big success in the town, hosting very diverse performances. It is also the fourth oldest functioning music hall in America!

Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation. Ajkun Ballet Theatre has been a resident every summer since 2000 at The Egg.

The production is currently being rehearsed at The Egg in preparation for the upcoming performance.

Chiara Ajkun spoke on the upcoming performance saying, “We could not be more excited to be in the theater everyday. This long pause has forced us to reflect on the importance of the Arts and the way they shape us as People. I, for one, strongly believe the magic of ballet does not rest in the opulence of sceneries and large ensembles, rather on pure emotion, beauty and magic it creates”.

  • TAUK share Extraterrestrial Video for “Moon Dub”

After a successful return to the stage at Peach Music Festival, TAUK is set to hit the road and headline their own shows for the Chaos Companion Tour, harnassed by the release of their newest single and accompanying music video, for “Moon Dub,” out now.

With new music and new energy, the band can’t wait to return to live shows like never before. “We’ve been missing live music just like everybody else and are itching to get back on the road,” shares guitarist Matt Jalbert. “This whole experience gave us some time to step back and really gain a whole new perspective on just how lucky we are to do what we do and share it all with unreal fans.”

    tauk chaos companion

This first part of the country long tour kicks off with Resonance Music & Arts Festival in Masontown, WV over September 16th & 17th, followed by a performance at Borderland Music & Arts Festival in East Aurora on September 18th. TAUK will then hop along the east coast, hitting Pawtucket, RI, New Haven, CT, and Brooklyn, (the latter with Paris_Monster), before heading down south for plays in Asheville, NC, Atlanta, GA, Indianapolis, IN, Covington, KY and more. The band will then make their State Theatre debut on Halloween in Falls.

    tauk chaos companion

Don’t miss out on TAUK on tour. An all-instrumental combination of progressive rock, hip-hop and jazz offers a unique blend and sound to their listeners. Inspired by classic sci-fi like Blade Runner and Ex Machina, TAUK’s ability to combine melodic fusion with pop sounds is sonically adventurous, and emotional. A full list of dates can be found below. Keep up with the band on their official Facebook & Instagram, and listen now on Spotify & Apple Music.

Their most recent studio album Shapeshifter II: Outbreak, offered an interesting look at artificial intelligence and its potential to upend our world. Containing a sense of tension and cinematic mood, it proved to be an album that’s both thought provoking and soothing.

Longtime friends and TAUK members Charlie Dolan, Matt Jalbert, and A.C. Carter formed their first band in seventh grade. After playing together in various projects, the three added Issac Teel to the band, creating the final lineup. Since then, TAUK has appeared at festivals like Electric Forest and Bonnaroo, and earned acclaim from major outlets like the Washington Post, who praised TAUK for “creating a hard-charging, often melodic fusion that—thanks to a penchant for improv—offers limitless possibilities.”

    tauk Moon Dub

Earlier this month, TAUK shared “Moon Dub,” their first studio release since March 2020. On July 21, the New York-bred ensemble shared the track’s extraterrestrial-inspired video, directed by Dani Barbieri. Accompanying the fully instrumental track, listeners can join TAUK on a journey from Earth to outer space, with infectious beats and expansive sonic exploration. The vintage-tinged video chronicles the four-piece as they suit up, prepare for a space expedition and fly to the moon for a gravity-defying performance.

Of the video’s concept, guitarist Matt Jalbert says:

The floating, spacey nature of the song coupled with Dani’s excellent creative input and execution brought us to Volvox Labs where we were able to make it feel like we are playing on the moon and do the shoot on their high-tech screens and come away with an amazing looking video. It was then that we actually landed on the song title. It was damn hot in those space suits, but worth it in the end.

    Matt Jalbert, TAUK

The video was captured over a single, hot summer day in New York City, in a studio without air conditioning. Despite this minor set back, Barbieri reflects upon the shoot for “Moon Dub,” saying “the men in TAUK brought 100% energy to every single take. They are true heroes and it was a gift and a dream to take them to the moon!”

Directed by Sophia Conger and shot at the Brooklyn Bowl, TAUK’s video for “Make Your Move” opens with the band quietly sitting at a bar, before suddenly shifting into a vibrant and playful competition sequence. The video mirrors TAUK’s signature instrumental sound, which begins delicately and expands into complex textures and beats, brilliantly blending the old school with the futuristic. The visuals in “Make Your Move” perfectly match this: a calm and unassuming beginning, which then bursts into a layered, intricate melody, shown with Nerf gun fights, Mario Kart-style tricycle races and more.

  • Pine Barrens Jam Music Festival debuts on Long Island This Fall

Long Island musicians and artists have taken the struggle of living through the Covid-19 pandemic and turned it into inspiration to launch a brand-new music festival known as Pine Barrens Jam.

    Pine Barrens Jam

Celebrating one of Eastern Long Island’s iconic natural treasures, Pine Barrens Jam will feature live music, art, local food, and more set in the East End’s unique landscape. Long Island’s first crowdfunded festival has gathered like-minded and hardworking local businesses and creatives to donate their time to put on this first-year event. Everyone involved with Pine Barrens Jam, from the producers to the performers, are from Long Island, showcasing what the region has to offer. This intimate yet socially distanced event will be held on Sept 18 at Ringhoff Farm in Center Moriches. The gates will open at noon.

Drop The 4, a high-energy funk-fusion group, will be headlining the Jelly Jam main stage. Alternating with the main stage will be the Lantern Sound Recording Rig acoustic stage, with a lineup of songwriters including Pete Mancini and Rorie Kelly. Local poets such as Bruce “AllOne” Pondolfo will be reading their pieces on the poetry & arts stage, curated by Melissa Marie Imagery, and local artists will be selling and creating work on the site. The fireside acoustic after party will feature The Belle Curves, Anne O’Rourke, and Sarah Gross swapping original songs. Throughout the day, food trucks and vendors will be selling everything from macarons to handmade embroidery.

The festival welcomes support from businesses, artisans, and anyone who would like to play a part in putting on this inspiring, collaborative event. This is the start of an exciting new tradition in Long Island music and arts.
