  • Ireland’s We Banjo 3 Announce Spring Tour Dates, Holiday Album

Irish acoustic band We Banjo 3 have announced the upcoming release of their first ever holiday album, along with their first American tour dates in nearly two years. A Winter Wonderful, an album featuring holiday tunes from their native country as well as the United States, will be available on all digital music platforms beginning December 3.

In support of this, We Banjo 3 toured the US for the first time in nearly two years throughout the first two weeks of December, and has announced Spring 2022 tour dates, including shows at City Winery in Manhattan, and Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs.

    We Banjo 3

WB3 will host their 2nd annual “A Winter Wonderful” livestream performance on Saturday, December 18 at 8 pm ET. Tickets, including ticket/merch bundles with new seasonal/limited-run offerings, are available at www.webanjo3.com. Each ticket purchase includes on-demand streaming access until New Year’s Day.

The friendships and kinships we’ve experienced on the road all over the world were interwoven into an incredible celebration last year during the pandemic with our livestreamed concerts. The holiday edition, ‘A Winter Wonderful,’ was a particular highlight, so we want to make it an annual tradition. We are so thrilled to return to the U.S. after close to 21 months off the road for our Winter Wonderful tour, which will include very special livestream on December 18th direct from the Rocky Mountains. Our fans can celebrate the holiday season with our banjo family in venues and in their living rooms.

    WB3’s Martin Howley

Since 2012, We Banjo 3 has toured the U.S. several times a year, building a passionate and loyal following. The Galway, Ireland quartet––comprised of two sets of brothers, Enda & Fergal Scahill and Martin & David Howley––have fine-tuned their knack for seamlessly converging the shared and varied traditions of Americana, Bluegrass, and Celtic music with pop-sensible songcraft to create a truly unique signature sound.

With a brilliant command of their instruments––banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and percussion––combined with a pop sensibility and an undeniable energy, their seamless blend of Americana/bluegrass/Celtic music has made them fan favorites at a diverse range of festivals including BottleRock, Summer Camp, ROMP, Wintergrass, Merlefest, Milwaukee Irish Fest and more.

    We Banjo 3

Their most recent full-length album releases––Haven (2018) and Roots To Rise Live (2019)––each reached the #1 position on Billboard’s Bluegrass chart. See below for the track listing to A Winter Wonderful as well as tour date information.

  • Listen to Chvrches’ ‘Screen Violence: Director’s Cut’ Ahead Of Terminal 5 Run

Glasgow based synth-pop vets Chvrches are currently in the midst of a tour which takes them to NYC this weekend for two shows at Terminal 5. The tour is in support of the band’s fourth LP, Screen Violence, released back in August on Glassnote Records. Since the record was released, Chvrches have also released an expanded “director’s cut” version featuring three bonus tracks.

Screen Violence: Director’s Cut Album Art

Screen Violence was recorded almost entirely remote between Los Angeles and Glasgow, Scotland. The term “screen violence” itself was originally an early candidate for the band’s name, but was revived for the title of the new album as it was fitting given the transition of our normal lives into digital screens. The album touches on motifs of loneliness, disillusionment, and fear as a result of being isolated during the global pandemic. Vocalist Lauren Mayberry describes the recording process:

I think for me it was helpful to go into the process with the idea that I could write something escapist almost. That felt freeing initially, to have concepts and stories to weave your own feelings and experiences through but in the end, all the lyrics were definitely still personal.

    Multi-instrumentalist Martin Doherty adds:

To me, the screen aspect was a bit more literal. When we were making the record, it was like half of our lives were lived through screens. What began as a concept was now a lifeline.

Chvrches have released four albums over the last decade, and have crafted a visually stunning live show over the years. Boasting a new stage production on this tour, Chvrches is poised to awe fans at Terminal 5 this weekend. A small number of tickets for night one this Friday, November 26th are still available, while the second night on Saturday is sold out. Stay tuned for our review of the show plus a full photo gallery.

  • Get Into a Good Holiday Funk With Everett Bradley’s Holidelic

Looking for unique music for the holidays? Everett Bradley, performer with E Street Band and Bon Jovi, is ready to give us some holiday cheer, or better, holiday funk. The Grammy nominated rock percussionist has announced the return of his beloved holiday funk revue, Holidelic.

    Holidelic

A 12-show run will be held at The Lucille Lortel Theatre in NYC from December 9 though 31. This is part of the theater’s holiday performance series Tinsel: A Global Holiday Celebration, running from December 6-31 and featuring effervescent live music, performance, and dance with leading artists from around the globe.

Bradley will strictly go by his name Papadelic, for the residency. The renamed Funk’s Father Christmas is a funk figure combining the personas of George Clinton and Santa Claus, with of course holiday-themed funk songs written by Bradley.

A flashy, bass heavy retro-futuristic take on the holidays

    The New Yorker

Holidelic debuted in 2002 to bring some cheer after 9/11, something about his big furry white coat, sunglasses and 6-inch platform shoes has been selling out shows ever since. I mean maybe it’s from his stardom with Bon Jovi, Hall & Oats, Quincy Jones, and Snarky Puppy. Regardless this GRAMMY winner knows how to wow a crowd, exhibiting extraordinary talent, exuberance, and heart to every tour, session, Broadway show, or even TV show. The holidays wouldn’t be the same without him.

  • Jonah Hill to Play Jerry Garcia in New Martin Scorsese Biopic

A new project chronicling the Grateful Dead has found its Jerry Garcia in Academy Award nominee Jonah Hill. Earlier this week, Hill shared the good news via Instagram, captioning a post with prayer hands and skull emojis.

The still-untitled biopic, directed and produced by Martin Scorsese and distributed by Apple, remains somewhat a mystery. Sources have yet to confirm what exactly will be covered in the film. However, Apple has reportedly acquired the rights to use Grateful Dead music in the project,  But the project has recruited an A-list team, with Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann all signed on as executive producers. Jerry’s daughter, Trixie Garcia, will also executive produce.

    Jerry Garcia

The new film won’t be Scorsese’s first rodeo with the Dead’s iconic story, after directing the 2017 documentary Long Strange Trip. Furthermore, Scorsese and Hill have a history of working together. Scorsese directed Hill in the critically lauded 2014 film The Wolf of Wall Street, which earned Hill enormous praise and his first Oscar nomination.

Currently, Scorsese and Hill are both at work on other projects. Scorcese is developing his newest film Killers of the Flower Moon, a Western crime drama featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro. Jonah Hill will next appear in Adam McKay’s all-star comedy Don’t Look Up, alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, and more.

Veteran writing duo Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszsewski have signed on to pen the script. Previously, they received rave reviews for scripting the acclaimed Fox drama American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson. Though this film will be Scorsese’s first musical biopic, with Alexander and Karaszsewski at his side, a triumph seems possible.

On social media, fans have already begun compiling their dream choices for the rest of the cast. With Hill the only confirmed cast member, imaginations have run wild as to who will portray the rest of the band.

    https://twitter.com/JamesonMangan/status/1461436942466404355

Some fans even questioned the casting of Hill, arguing their own picks for Jerry.

All in all, however, fans seemed excited and interested by the news of the biopic. With many of the living members signed on as executive producers, fans expressed hope the Dead’s story would be done justice.
