  • “Daze Between” Announced in Celebration of the Life and Music from Jerry Garcia

    “Daze Between” was announced by The Jerry Garcia Family and The Rex Foundation in celebration of the life and music created by Jerry Garcia. The event will include exclusive musical performance and storytelling for nine days of fun. The event’s live stream will be free but open for donations and run August 1-9.

    “Daze Between” will will feature performances by: Grateful Dead, Dead & Company, Bob Weir & The Campfire Band, The Jerry Garcia 75th Birthday Band, The Jerry Garcia 75th Birthday Acoustic Band,featuring Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Jeff Chimenti, Donna Jean Godchaux, Neal Casal, Joe Russo, Jon Graboff, Mike Gordon, Jim Lauderdale, Adam McDougall, Jason Roberts, Harper Simon, Josh Kaufman, Sam Cohen, Jonathan Wilson, Cass McCombs, Chris Tomson, Craig Finn, and Tad Kubler.  The event will also be screening the film Move Me Brightly. 

    The event will feature new and archival performances as well as storytelling from artists including: ALO, Andy Thorn, Amigo the Devil, Amos Lee, Circles Around The Sun, Dark Star Orchestra, David Grisman, Del McCoury Band, Della Mae, From Good Homes, Fruition, Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad, Graham Nash, Greensky Bluegrass, Greg Errico, Hiss Golden Messenger, Hot Tuna, Jackie Greene, Jason Crosby, Katie Skene, Keller Williams, Kitchen Dwellers, Leslie Mendelson, Lettuce ft.     “Daze Between” is partnering with Live From Out There/11E1even Group, DayGlo Ventures, Relix, Jerry Garcia Estate, Activist Management, Nugs.net, level, KEEN and Teton Gravity Research to bring this community-wide celebration to life. 

    “Daze Between” will be streamed live across Nugs.net, Fans.com, Facebook, Youtube, and other channels, with a home base on www.dazebetween.com. Throughout the week, people will have the option to donate to the Rex Foundation using text-to-give or payment options embedded within each streaming platform. There will also be a signed guitar by Bob Weir, copies of Jay Blakesberg’s books of photography, a complete set of Jerry Garcia-inspired posters by Chuck Sperry and more up for auction.

  • Moon Hooch and Too Many Zooz Revive ‘Moon Zooz’ livestream

    Brooklyn based Moon Hooch will team up with “brasshouse” Too Many Zooz on Saturday, July 25 for two live streamed shows dubbed ‘Moon Zooz’. The virtual concerts are three hours long and will start at 3 PM ET, running back to back.

    This is not the first time that these former subway players have joined ranks to bring their unique sound of jazz, edm and rock to the masses. During the spring of 2019 the two trios successfully co headlined a tour across New England.

    Both bands got their start busking in the New York City subway platforms where they gained notoriety for the dance parties that would form. Too Many Zooz consists of saxophonist Leo Pellegrino, trumpeter Matt Muirhead and drummer David Parks. Moon Hooch is saxophonists Wenzl McGowen and Mike Wilbur and drummer James Muschler.

    From viral videos in the subway to the studio, both have gone on to deliver new sound that is meant to make you move. Too Many Zooz released their debut album Subway Gawdz in 2016 and most recently released a music video for the track “Car Alarm” that received more thank 2.5 million views. Moon Hooch has respectively dropped a total of four studio albums including this year’s self-released Life on Other Planets, along with numerous EPs.

  • Hudson River Park’s Virtual Summer of Fun is Underway

    NYC’s Hudson River Park is bringing the fun into our homes. Ideal for the bored quarantiner, their Virtual Summer of Fun program offers weekly concerts, fitness classes, STEM lectures, and children’s events. Streaming for free on Facebook Live, there’s something of interest for every age and music taste.

    Hudson River Park’s concert series, Sunset on the Hudson, streams every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. It launched on July 9 with The Big Takeover, a seven-piece reggae band from the Hudson Valley, and is continuing weekly until September 3. On August 27, twin DJs Coco & Breezy are taking the stage. Also known for designing luxury eyewear, their pieces have been worn by the likes of Prince and Lady Gaga. All Sunset on the Hudson performers are local, and the full list reflects a variety of genres and backgrounds.

    “While the world has changed, Hudson River Park remains committed to bringing the joy and excitement of summer to old and new friends from New York City and beyond” said Madelyn Wils, CEO and President of Hudson River Park Trust. “Summer of Fun programs offer more than just education and enjoyment – they provide our community with a way to connect with the Park, their favorite local talent, and each other.”

    Besides the main concert series, the Summer of Fun is also hosting Sunset Salsa on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. Led by Talia Castro-Pozo, who appeared on The Today Show, each event begins with instruction and leads into an hour featuring world class dancers and DJs. And for the jazz-inclined, Annette A. Aguilar is performing with her band StringBeans on Thursday, September 10. Aguilar has previously played percussion for Stevie Wonder and The Grateful Dead.

    The Park’s Hudson RiverKids program runs until the end of August. At 4:00 p.m. every Mondays, a new weekly guest leads a singalong, magic show, or story hour.

  • Summer Sonic Festival Takes to the Virtual Stage

    Summer Sonic Festival announced their 2020 festivities will take to the virtual stage. The festival will live-stream archived performances from big names like Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Rihanna, Coldplay, The Flaming Lips and many more. The free live-stream starts on July 22 and runs through to July 23 via the Summer Sonic YouTube channel at 7AM EST.

    Summer Sonic Festival is usually held in Osaka and Chiba, Japan at the Makuhari Messe Event Hall. The majority of the bands playing in Osaka the first day and then go to Chiba the following day and vice versa. The festival was founded in 2000 and typically features rock music. This year’s festivities were stopped due to the pandemic but the festival will go on in spirit on the virtual stage.

    The festival won’t be hosting live performances but will show highlights from the past 20 years. The archive performances include Boom Boom Satellites from 200, B’z from 2009, Coldplay from 2008, The Flaming Lips from 2009, Oasis from 2005, Sigur Ros from 2012 and Sonic Youth from 2009 on the July 22. The archive includes Green Day from 2012, Nine Inch Nails from 2009, Rihanna from 2012, The Prodigy from 2008, and X JAPAN from 2011 on July 23. The Summer Sonic archived performances will become available for streaming beginning at 8:00PM Japan time (4:00AM in Los Angeles, 7:00AM in New York) on July 23. The live-stream will free and available everywhere via Summer Sonic Festival’s YouTube channel.

  • Broadway Buskers Concert Series Returns Virtually

    The Times Square Alliance’s annual Broadway Buskers concert series will pick up again virtually this year starting on July 21 and stream every Tuesday at 7pm until October 27.

    Since its start in 2018, Broadway Buskers has brought Broadway actors and composers’ original work to NYC by hosting live performances in Times Square times so that audience members and Broadway workers could watch before heading to a show. While in-person concerts are out, theatre fans can still watch these weekly concerts to experience the talent the Broadway community has to offer. 

    Tons of familiar faces will be featured over the coming weeks: Rachel Potter (The Addams Family, Evita, Wicked) and Heath Saunders (The Great Comet, Alice By Heart, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert) on July 21, Melissa Li & Kit Yan (Interstate, MISS STEP, Cancelled) and Ben Wexler (Washington Square, 2019 Jonathan Larson Grant Winner) on July 28, Lauren Elder (Mary and Max, Hair, Side Show) and James Harkness (Ain’t Too Proud, Beautiful, Chicago) on August 4, Joey Contreras (Love Me, Love Me Not, Break from the Line, Joyride) and Tamika Lawrence (Caroline, or Change, If/Then, Come From Away) on August 11, and additional performers to be announced. The concerts will be streamed every Tuesday at 7PM until October 27. 

    Ben Cameron returns as the curator and host, and for the second year, the Musical Theatre Factory (MTF) co-curates with queer, trans, and BIPOC artists from the MTF community. While the concerts are free, viewers are encouraged to donate to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund and the Broadway Advocacy Coalition.

  • Hudson Valley Philharmonic to Stream Virtual Concert

    On Saturday, July 18, Bardavon Presents will stream the first Hudson Valley Philharmonic Virtual Concert Hall for free. The performance is curated by HVP Maestro Randall Craig Fleischer and will showcase favorite pieces performed by the talented HVP musicians.

    As Bardavon is not sure when audiences will be able to gather together once again due to the Coronavirus pandemic, they are streaming virtual performances on YouTube for fans to enjoy from home.   • PBS Airs Broadway Shows to Keep Theatre Alive

    As a part of their Broadway at Home series, PBS will be bringing theatre to people at home by broadcasting She Loves Me, Present Laughter, In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams, Much Ado About Nothing, and The King and I on a weekly basis starting July 24 and ending August 21.

    Since the Broadway shutdown was extended to 2021, many are still finding ways to keep theatre alive. Following the Disney Plus release of Hamilton, on Fridays this summer, PBS will broadcast some past Broadway favorites. She Loves Me will kick the series off on July 24 at 9PM ET. The musical features Tony award winner Laura Benanti and Tony nominee Zachary Levi. This 2016 revival of the 1963 show was the first ever Broadway show to be livestreamed. The next week, Noel Coward’s Present Laughter will air July 31 at 9PM ET. This comedy follows a self-obsessed actor as he deals with women who want him, crazed playwrights, twists, and his impending mid-life crisis. 

    On August 7 at 9, PBS will broadcast In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams. The film documents the stories of composer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast of In the Heights as they prepare for their opening night in 2008. It is about the difficulty of going out and achieving dreams when all odds are stacked against you. Although writing a show about a mainly Hispanic neighborhood in NYC may have been risky, it certainly paid off. In the Heights took home 4 Tonys, including Best Musical and Best Score of a Musical.  Its film adaptation will be released summer 2021.

    For the first time, PBS will show a Shakespeare in the Park show–Much Ado About Nothing from 2019. Danielle Brooks and Grantham Coleman star in this Shakespeare comedy directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon and choreographed by Tony nominee Camille A. Brown. Much Ado About Nothing will air on August 14 at 9.

    PBS wraps the series up on August 21 at 9 with Rogers and Hammerstein’s The King and I. The 2015 revival of this 1951 classic won the Tony for Best Musical Revival. This production was recorded during its 2018 run and stars Tony award winners Ruthie Ann Miles and Kelli O’Hara, who won for this performance as Mrs. Anna in The King and I in 2015. 

    The shows will also be available for streaming on all station-branded PBS platforms, and all PBS station members will be able to watch the shows on Passport. Check your local PBS station for more information. 

  • JamCast Network Announces kNOw Justice! kNOw Peace!

    The JamCast Network announces the kNOw Justice! kNOw Peace! Live-Stream for Equality. The live-stream fundraiser will feature music & cultural education. It will center around the racial equality and justice movement and take place at 4PM on July 18. 

    The live-stream is being hosted by Alan Evans, Laranah Phipps-Ray, and Greg Knight. The event will feature content, statements, & performances from Doom Flamingo, Zion I, Ghost-Note, Mark Lettieri, Angelo Moore, JC aka Tripple Threat, Cosmik Krewe & Friends (Featuring Micheal Ray’s performances with Barenaked Ladies, Sun Ra Arkestra, Instant Funk, & More), Alric Carter and Isaac Teel of TAUK, Nick Cassarino of Nth Power & Erin Boyd of Phantom Vanity, Joslyn & The Sweet Compression, The Sweet Life, Wil Blades, Zach Brock, The A-Beez, Camryn Jackson, Rob Dixon & Trilogy, Brickdrop, After Funk, & More to be announced. 

    There will also be educational speakers, interviews, & panels at the live-stream. Some of the people on the docket include Kim Dawson, Nahbi Reality (Wu-Tang Clan Affiliate), Delia McGee (Founder of TakeBlaction), with many more to be announced.

    The JamCast Network has teamed up with TakeBlaction which is a fully decentralized & volunteer-based initiative. The partnership is fundraising for Social Justice Matters, America Scores NY, The Emma Bowen Foundation, & more with the live-stream. Every dollar raised from this stream is being donated and dispersed throughout these organizations.

    The primary source of streaming & donations will be on JamCast Network’s website. The live-stream will also be available on Facebook, Twitch, YouTube, JamCast Network, and Cash Or Trade Streams.

  • New York Guitar Festival Kicks off today with Set Two of ‘Reverend Gary Davis: In Search of Harlem Street Singer’ with Jim James, Chris Thile and more

    New York Guitar Festival (NYGF) has announced Set Two of the festival’s 2020 online performance series Reverend Gary Davis: In Search of the Harlem Street Singer. The series focuses on the music of blind blues musician Reverend Gary Davis.

    Rev. Gary Davis performed on the streets of Harlem from the late 1940s until his death in 1972. Overcoming poverty, racial discrimination, and blindness, Davis made numerous influential recordings and festival appearances, and also taught students including David Bromberg, Stefan Grossman, Dave Van Ronk, and Bob Weir.

    Set Two of Reverend Gary Davis: In Search of the Harlem Street Singer will premiere one video performance each day from July 13-19, at 4pm EDT daily via the New York Guitar Festival YouTube channel. There will be musical performances by Jim James, Chris Thile, David Bromberg, Piedmont Blūz, Jontavious Willis, and a special discourse by DJ Spooky to launch the festival.     The New York Guitar Festival first moved its distinguished musical curation online in May, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, commissioning a diverse group of stellar musicians to participate.  Watch Set One of Reverend Gary Davis: In Search of the Harlem Street Singer – featuring performances by Bill Frisell, Rosanne Cash & John Leventhal, Warren Haynes, Fantastic Negrito, Amythyst Kiah and many more below.

  • Levitt AMP Utica to present TV special “AMP the House!”

    The Levitt AMP Utica Music Series is producing a two-hour TV special called “AMP the House!,” showcasing Utica’s diverse local music scene as well as some national acts. Focused on community and family, the show seeks to encourage viewers’ mental health and support musicians. Genres highlighted in the special include pop, soul, blues, Latin, instrumental, and country. The performers, 12 acts in total, consist of all different backgrounds, genders, languages, and ages.

    Not only will “AMP the House!” feature Utica’s unique range of talent shown above, but explore what else Levitt AMP Utica does behind the scenes. The special will include “Beyond the Music” segments about the AMP Utica internship program and more.

    Coordinator Michelle Truett says, “We chose to produce a television show because it will allow us to share great bands, singers and musicians with viewers throughout the Central New York region and hopefully entice them to come to downtown Utica next summer to see the concerts in person. Also, a TV show gives us a great opportunity to share what else we do at the park with our series – our internship program, fostering of youth performers, placemaking activities, art, inclusion and community-building. The show is going to be jam-packed with inspiration and talent.”

    In addition to local Utica acts, two national bands are participating. B2wins and Bassel & the Supernaturals were originally supposed to perform in person, but will instead appear in the special and rebook for 2021. B2wins, short for Brazilian twins, are Iowan brothers who bend genres with the help of a violin and ukulele. Recently, they’ve been keeping busy with community outreach for the COVID-19 crisis. As for Bassel & the Supernaturals, they’re a Chicagoan neo-soul and funk band that raises awareness for Syrian refugees both on and off the stage,

    Utica Monday Nite board president Alyssa Spina adds, “Utica Monday Nite is proud to be a part of a project that exemplifies the power art as a tool to bring community together, especially and most importantly during a time when connection is most needed.” Founded in 1997, Utica Monday Nite is a local arts initiative that has accepted the Levitt AMP [Your City] Music Awards grant for the last five years. Going to cities with underutilized public spaces, the Levitt AMP Utica Music Series previously took place at Kopernik Park in Oneida Square. Although they postponed live concerts, this TV special is still possible due to a bridge grant from the Levitt Foundation.

    The special will air Monday, July 20 on CBS-Utica 2 and again Thursday, July 23 on WFXV 33, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. both nights. Both channels are available throughout the greater Utica area. The show won’t be put online after, so these are the only opportunities to watch it.
