  • Alanis Morissette, Garbage and Liz Phair Team Up for 2020 Tour Celebrating 25th Anniversary of ‘Jagged Little Pill’

    Alanis Morissette has announced a 2020 tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her album Jagged Little Pill.  Fellow ’90s classmates set to join the tour are Garbage and Liz Phair. With a kick-off June 1 in Portland, OR, the tour is set to make 31 stops. Two of which will be in New York. They will take the stage on June 26 at LiveNation’s Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater. On July 8, the alt-rockers will perform at SPAC in Saratoga Springs.

    Ticket presales will start on Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. local time. The regular sale will follow on Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. local time. Fans can sign up here to be included in the presale if signed up by Dec. 8. All sales will include a digital download of Morissette’s newly released single “Reason I Drink.” Ticket holders also will receive a copy of the brand new album Such Pretty Forks in the Road, her first album since 2012.

    Jagged Little Pill was Morissette’s third studio album and the first released worldwide. It went on to sell 33 million copies and win five Grammys and was recently turned into a Broadway musical.

  • In Focus: Phish Dunkin’ Donuts Center Gig Kicks off Fall Tour

    Phish geared up for two nights at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, RI to cap the month of November. It was long overdue, nine years since Phish had performed DDC. Even more thrilling than the Phish stage presence at Dunkin’, both dates directly infected the community with musical-euphoria, as were fans Friday and Saturday night. Phish, along with the Mockingbird Foundation have donated a $1,500 in tour grants to New Urban Arts in Providence.

  • Taylor Swift and Lizzo Dominate Girls’ Choice Awards Nominations

    The Girls’ Choice Awards has announced the nominees for “Empowerment in Music” categories. Leading the pack was Taylor Swift with a total of six nominations. Lizzo follows right behind with five nominations, her hits “Tempo” and “Good As Hell” are competing against each other for the “Most Empowering Musical Collaboration of the Year”.

    Ariana Grande snagged four nods, while Billie Eilish and Halsey are up for two; Cardi B and Dua Lipa will compete for one award each.

    Set as the high point of Girls’ Choice year-round program, the show will take place February 28 and March 1, 2020 and is part of the Girls’ Choice initiative which focuses on today’s pressing issues while educating and empowering new generations.

    This year’s show is produced by partner organizations, creators of the Teen Choice and Young Women’s Honors, and the Sand Sisters Los Angeles. The empowerment festival will feature performances, activations from partners and the awards.

    Voting for the “Empowerment in Music” categories have already begun and ends February 15, 2020. Fans must be over 13 years of age and are allowed to vote as often as once per hour. Go to www.girlschoice.com to vote for your favorite artists.

  • Turkuaz to ditch colors as they kick off December tour at FTC Warehouse

    Brooklyn-based funk band Turkuaz, who recently dropped their roygbiv colors as well as their new EP Kuadrochrome in November, will perform at FTC Warehouse in Fairfield, CT on Thursday, December 5. The show (with special guest Great Time) marks the first of 9 shows in December, which finds the band travel from the Northeast to Colorado, where they’ll perform in Boulder on New Years Eve.

    Dave Brandwein, one of the founding members of Turkuaz, produced the tracks that were recorded at Galaxy Smith Studios. Available for download on all major services, the 4-song EP is also set to be released in limited-edition vinyl LP that will include special instrumental versions of the tracks.

    Alluding to a more cohesive sound while sticking true to the band’s fusion of funk with elements of R&B, psychedelic pop, gospel, Afro-pop, New Wave, and classic rock, Kuadrochrome is designed to get people dancing. This is evident in the visualizer video released last week for the studio rendition of “Heat Drop.” As many fans are already aware, the “colors” era is forever encapsulated in the band’s feature concert film, None’s a Ton, slated for wide release sometime this winter. 

    “We’re stripping back to our basics a bit with this release,” explains Brandwein. “We’re revisiting some of the old school elements of funk and soul that we’ve veered away from in recent years. It’s fun to change it up every once in a while and we feel it’s important for us, as well as our fans to keep things fresh. Although we’re playing some different material and sporting a new look — it’s still the same Turkuaz energy, with plenty of material from our whole catalogue. This is just the beginning. Kuadrochrome is the first of many steps into a new and exciting future in the world of Turkuaz.”

    To celebrate a new era for Turkuaz they will kick off a short winter tour on December 5 at FTC Warehouse in Fairfield, CT. Touring across the United States they will also be joined by several other bands. Philadelphia native funk/alternative band Great Time will be on stage in Fairfield, CT and Philadelphia, PA at the beginning of the tour. Starting in Kalamazoo, MI, Brooklyn duo Paris Monster is set to rock the stage for three nights. Hailing from Portland, OR, Swatkins and The Positive Agenda will be sure to bring a good time during the middle of the tour before Chicago native Neil Francis and his evolutionary soul-funk sounds from a bygone era finish up the last nine of the tour’s stops.

  • Tanglewood Reveals Summer Lineup – Trey Anastasio to Team up with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops

    The Tanglewood 2020 season has been announced with a range of festival favorites and brand new faces. The 12 programs start on June 19 and run through the entire summer, wrapping up on Aug. 30.

    The BSO’s $25 tickets for attendees under 40 will be available during the 2020 Tanglewood season for select performances; these tickets are available starting at the end of May on a first-come, first-served basis through www.tanglewood.org 

    Each program is made up of multiple acts that take place over multiple days. Some of the incredible acts to catch at Tanglewood summer of 2020 include Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band,  Boston Symphony Orchestra, Judy Collins, Arlo Guthrie, Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds, Trey Anastasio with the Boston Pops and other Tanglewood favorites like Emanuel Ax, Susan Graham, and Yo-Yo Ma. 

    Tanglewood is nestled in the hills of the Berkshires of Lenox and Stockbridge, MA and has been the home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1937. The festival was founded and created by Serge Koussevitzky (BSO Music Director 1924-1949) and is not only a place for music but for a variety of performances and multidisciplinary activities from dance troupes to trivia nights. It’s got a little bit of everything. 

     Year-round Berkshire County residents of Massachusetts may purchase a Berkshire Resident Season Lawn Pass priced at $100. Local residents must show a valid Massachusetts license which is required to obtain a photo ID pass.

    There is also an array of choruses and orchestras to catch of course playing everything from classical to pop culture recreations. With acts like Andris Nelsons-led program with Augustin Hadelich performing Beethoven’s Romance No. 1 and Dutilleux’s L’Arbre des songs to Two Boston Pops concerts led by Keith Lockhart: a film presentation of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, with the orchestra performing the score on August 21st Tanglewood covers all the orchestra bases.

    There is also ‘Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!’ NPR’s weekly news quiz hosted by Peter Sagal with judge and scorekeeper, Bill Kurtis, and the annual John Williams’ Film Night is coming back hosted by Mr. William’s himself. There’s definitely a little something for every music lover out there even if it’s not just music.

  • Restless World Music drops haunting R&B single “Cyclone”

    Yesterday, Restless World Music released their third single, “Cyclone,” on the heels of two singles, “Stratosphere” and “Ashes” which premiered earlier this year. “Cyclone” is the third of four singles that precede the group’s EP, due out in 2020.

    The Washington, D.C. based group says of the track:

    Sometimes love leaves with a whisper, slipping through our fingers. Other times, loves leaves nothing behind but wreckage, and no matter what – or who – we try, nothing can replace it.

    No matter how you’ve experienced love leaving your life, “Cyclone” illuminates the feeling that is left behind. Showcased by an inspired male vocal bringing heat over a dark atmospheric R&B/trap beat, lyrics such as “my life’s a ghost town, when you’re not around” will hit home.

    Prior to “Cyclone,” songs by Restless World Music have won several songwriting awards, including five years in a row of recognition in the Great American Song Contest, with two first-place wins (in Pop in 2012 and in R&B in 2016). The Great American Song Contest recognized Restless World Music on Facebook for being one of only two songwriters in 17 years to win first-place honors in two of their songwriting categories.

  • Goose announces 2020 dates with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong; headline Syracuse April 22

    Fast-rising indie-rock band Goose kick off 2020 with two sold out NYC shows, and then fly west to join Pigeons Playing Ping Pong for 13 shows on their first ever West Coast tour. The Norwalk, CT based group has taken flight this year, with notable performances at Peach Fest and sold out shows throughout their Fall Tour.

    Not only will Goose open for Pigeons to start 2020, they’ll be on the Rock Legends Cruise, setting sail in late February, then head to Pelham, TN to perform at The Caverns for a PBS special.

  • Exclusive: Moonroof Music Video ‘Trojans’ debuts Tomorrow

    Philadelphia indie-rock trio, Moonroof, will officially release their new music video for “Trojans,” tomorrow – Friday, November 22. The band has set their sights on conquering the music scene, recently winning Radio 104.5‘s 12th Birthday Show, sharing the stage with The Lumineers, Death Cab For Cutie and Grouplove. The 2016 Bloomsburg University inception wrote “Trojans” this past spring and debuted the single in August.

    Unlike the Greek folklore, Moonroof’s release is more synonymous to a lego-horse, or one dressed in vibrant-drag. “Trojans” music video flips the famous tale inside-out, as if the trio is mocking themselves, unconcerned with its reception; they’re focused on their target.

    As lead vocalist Dave Kim walks his band into a movie theater, prior to “Trojans” taking the screen, there is a clear smirk and airiness of joy across his face. After prompting the audience, it is comical that the band does not care if their video is well-received.

    Guitarist, Danny Walsh, and Drummer, Dan Rendine, carry the airy-spring groove the against a white-windowed, underwhelming backdrop. How long did it take you to figure out the trio is missing a bassist? The track release, onset of winter, is ironic but refreshing. As the movie-theatre crowd moves out one by one, the band continues to groove on the pop-electronic narrative, increasing with feeling.

    According to the press release, “‘Trojans’ entails a story of betrayal and heartbreak through a personal experience…the anthem that gets you hyped to finally break off that toxic relationship that’s holding you down.” However, Moonroof is onto something bigger here; Make fun of yourself when nobody else will (deliberately) – have fun – be happy – live. And most importantly – follow your dreams.

  • More than a dozen Jam for Tots shows planned across New York State this holiday season

    NYS Music is proud to announce 15 Jam for Tots shows around the Empire State this holiday season. Kicking off on November 27, each show will have a Toys for Tots box set up for patrons to donate gifts to kids in need.

    With a wide variety of artists, including Consider the Source, Runaway Gin, Annie in the Water, Tim Herron Corporation, Strange Machines, and Swedish metal guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, this annual series will connect live music fans with those most in need in their local communities.

  • Joe Russo’s Almost Dead announce 2020 tour dates, including Artpark performance in June

    including a three-night run at The Capitol Theatre in February and Artpark in June, Almost Dead fans around the country will be treated to the supergroup performing the music of the Grateful Dead with their own signature style.

    Tickets are available via Facebook presale for these newly announced shows starting Wednesday, November 20 in three groups, beginning at 11 AM and continues at 12PM and 1PM. Passwords for these on sales will be announced via the JRAD Facebook page. General onsale will start Friday, Nov. 22 in three groups at 11am, 12pm and 1pm.
