  • The Nectars Release Video for “We Will Run” off Upcoming Debut Album

    Raging in New York’s underground music scene, New Jersey group The Nectars have released the video for “We Will Run,” the third single off their upcoming album Sci-Fi Television, due out June 1. The punk rock quartet have a sound of brash excitement reminiscent of the New York punk scene of the late 70s with an indie-pop twist. They previously released videos for “Heaven” and “I Want It.”

    “Our music video for ‘We Will Run’ is a love letter to simpler times. A tribute to the New Jersey of our youth. A wish for a better world” explains singer Jessica Kenny, “We wanted to capture the feeling of running away with your friends, escaping the monotony of daily life and believing in each other. With the long, balmy, summer days ahead we have our souls set on nostalgia. We Will Run, together. Here in The Nectars, we’re just 4 regular kids who want to make music, chill with our squad, be FREE and be in love. To us, this video was about sharing our story of following our dreams both on the stage and off.”

  • Brooklyn’s Castle Black Releases Music Video, New EP to Follow

    Brooklyn grunge, post-punk rockers Castle Black have released a music video for their song “Broken Bright Star,” which comes off the band’s 2017 EP, Trapped Under All You Know.

    Filmed in Brooklyn, the band once again turned to director Jeff Allyn Szwast for this project after directing the band’s video for “Dark Light.” The video shows their fondness for spells, dark magic and pagan-inspired rituals.

    Szwast talked about once again teaming up with Castle Black: “I love working with Castle Black, because I feel like we get to make these fun, narrative mini-films. Leigh and I have similar tastes in aesthetics and themes, and all of us enjoy infusing the work with a certain amount of ’90s head-nods, as we all draw a lot of our early influence from that era.”

    After recently hanging out in the studio, Castle Black is set to release their fourth EP this summer, titled The Gods That Adored You. The band tapped one of the industry’s best engineers/producers for the EP in Mark Plati, who has worked with artists like David Bowie, Prince, Spooky Ruben, The Cure and Duncan Sheik. The EP was recorded by Michael Abiuso, at Behind the Curtains Media studio, and mastered by Jamal Ruhe of West West Side Music.

    The female-fronted Castle Black will play two hometown shows in Brooklyn during their current tour on June 8 at TJO Presents Showcase (Northside Festival) and June 28, at The Well.

  • The Black Dahlia Murder Kicks Off Tour

    Detroit’s melodic death metal band, The Black Dahlia Murder, have hit the road recently, and are set to visit over 40 cities across North America on their tour.

    The tour will take place in two parts, first seeing support from Homewrecker for the first twelve dates, starting in Minnesota and ending June 1 at Ground Zero in Traverse, MI. After a small break, the band will then head out with Whitechapel, Fleshgod, Apocalypse, Aversions Crown, and Shadow of Intent starting on June 8 in Chicago.

    The second portion of the tour will make two stops in New York, first on June 13, at Funk N’ Waffles in Rochester, and June 15, at Stage 48 in NYC.

    Formed in 2001, The Black Dahlia Murder has released eight studio albums, including 2017’s Nighbringers. The band’s last seven releases have charted on the Billboard 200, with the last five reaching inside the top 50 on the Billboard 200 chart.

  • Queensryche Withstands Another Rainy Night in Upstate NY

    On Saturday, May 19, Queensryche, with special guests Great White and Autograph, took the Budweiser Summer Stage at Tag’s in Big Flats, NY despite intermittent rainy showers and brisk temperatures.

    Slated to kick off this headlining show at 10 pm, Queensryche, a powerhouse staple in rock and roll history since 1982, hit the stage early, just before 9:30, following solid performances by both Autograph and Great White. Although many thought this show might actually run behind, fearing rain delays, Queensryche busted out with their first song “Best I Can,” from their fourth studio album Empire, released in August 1990.

    Led by original members Michael Wilton on guitar and Eddie Jackson on bass, Queensryche formed in 1982 in Bellevue, Washington. The band has gone through only a few notable lineup changes in 36 years, including Todd La Torre on vocals who replaced lead singer Geoff Tate in 2012, Parker Lundgren who, since 2009, has filled original guitarist Chris DeGarmo’s duties masterfully, and Casey Grillo, who is currently filling in the drumming department while original Queensryche drummer Scott Rockenfield is out on hiatus for paternity leave.

    Despite recovering from a broken right hand, La Torre’s vocals were amazingly powerful and strong as he belted out most of the progressive metal band’s catalog of hits including “The Lady Wore Black” and “Queen of the Reich” from Queensryche’s 1983 self titled EP, as well as the powerhouse hits from 1988’s Operation Mindcrime, “I Don’t Believe in Love” and “Eyes of a Stranger”. La Torre’s vocals only seemed to get stronger as the night progressed as he closed out with “Jet City Woman” and “Take Hold of the Flame.”

    Although fans were thoroughly impressed with both Autograph and Great White, who were definitely in the pocket and put on great shows, they were most certainly left mesmerized by Queensryche’s powerful performance and 16-song set list that seemed to only get better after each song, leaving the crowd of thousands at Tag’s Summer Stage screaming for more. Queensryche closed this almost 90-minute set with the encores “Screaming in Digital” and “Eyes of a Stranger.”

  • Premiere: Listen to Komrads “Prom Dress” off upcoming album

    Komrads, a Synthpunk/Darkwave duo based out of Rochester, NY have released the first track off their upcoming album Resistor, due out on May 25 and now available for pre order. The track, “Prom Dress,” is a post-punk inspired anthem about love and loss. Resistor was produced, mixed, and engineered by Joshua Pettinger at Wicked Squid Studios and mastered by Brian “Big Bass” Gardner.

    The album release party and Resistor tour kick off on June 8 at Rosen Krown in Rochester with dogmath and DJ Bumphead, and after a jaunt through the Midwest, Komrads return to New York for a show in Buffalo on June 22 at Milkies with Curse of Cassandra (Cincinnati, OH Witch House/Goth Trap), Industry of Life Divine, Finality Complex, And Armageddon Party.

  • Nine Inch Nails Adds Tour Dates, Offers No Online Sales.

    Grammy award winning industrial rock band, Nine Inch Nails, has added 27 shows across 15 cities in the U.S.

    The band previously announced that they would only play three shows in Las Vegas as the only U.S. tour stops for the summer, but didn’t say anything about the rest of 2018.

    After the band’s Vegas run and overseas tour, Nine Inch Nails will hit the U.S., kicking things off in Phoenix on Aug.19. The tour will see support from the Jesus and Mary Chain. Several cities on the tour will see multiple performances, including a two night stay at Radio City Music Hall in NYC on Sept. 13-14.

    Tickets go on sale on May 19 at 10 a.m. In an attempt to get tickets into the fan’s hands and not re-sellers, concert-goers will have to go the old school route to score tickets for any of these upcoming shows, as no tickets will be made available to purchase online. Fans will have to break out the portable folding chairs, and form an early line at their nearest venue’s box office. Venues will turn away anyone forming a line in front of their facility before 8 a.m. on May 19.

  • 2018 Saranac Thursday Lineup Announced

    The F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica announced the lineup for its 20th anniversary Saranac Thursday series for 2018. The annual event showcases many local and regional acts with the occasional national act as well. This year’s series kicks off May 24 with the Rome-based classic rock outfit, Work Related.

    In addition to 20 years of Saranac Thursdays, the brewery is celebrating 85 years of Utica Club, the brewery’s flagship beer, and 130 years of the F.X. Matt Brewing Company.

    Gates to the courtyard open at 5:30 and performances begin at 6:00 p.m. each week. A portion of the proceeds benefits the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area. The events have raised more than $600,000 dollar total to date.

  • Watch “Shadow of Your Love,” an unreleased Guns N’ Roses song from Appetite for Destruction

    Guns N’ Roses announced this week that Appetite for Destruction: Locked N’ Loaded will be released on June 29 at the whopping price of only $999. But it might be worth the price given that it includes 25 unreleased demos that were recorded during a Sound City session in 1986, as well as two tracks that were cut during sessions with Appetite producer Mike Clink. You’ll also get the original 1987 album remastered from the original stereo analog tapes, plus 12 remastered tracks taken from of-era EPs and b-sides. One of the unreleased tracks, “Shadow of Your Love” was shared on YouTube this week. Watch below.

    The unreleased audio on this box sex features two songs Guns N’ Roses cut with Clink, “Shadow of Your Love,” which was recorded during a trial session that led Clink to the production job, plus an acoustic version of “Move to the City,” which came out of the GN’R Lies sessions. Plus you’ll hear two early versions of “November Rain,” two unfinished songs – “The Plague” and “New Work Tune,” plus covers of Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel,” Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin” and acoustic and electric versions of the Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”

  • Upstate Punk Band Surmiser Announces Upcoming EP ‘Hold The Static’

    Surmiser’s latest EP, Hold The Static, will be available on June 8. The grungy garage punk band will celebrate the release with a show on June 9 at The People’s Cauldron in Rosendale. The band issued a music video for “Trains,” from the upcoming release, which debuted at New Noise Magazine.

    ‘Trains’ is about dead-end life in a small city and an analogy to the way that people in this place, and indeed these types of places, allow themselves to be derailed by anger, addiction and the patterns created of the previous generations mistakes.

    The video was shot by shot by Mike Parish of 424recording.com. Jay Andersen at Bohemesphere in Saugerties recorded and mixed Hold The Static. It was mastered by Oliver Ackermann at Death By Audio, Brooklyn, NY.

  • Hearing Aide: tHrOnE “tHrOnE”

    tHrOnEAfter 10 years, Connecticut rockers Throne return with their self-titled full length album. Brothers Casey and Derek Trafton, have revived Throne after disbanding in 2009 when their cousin Justin Trafton left the band.

    In many ways, the Trafton brothers strive to create a sound that is modern while still longing for the sounds of their days touring with bands like Blink-182 and Good Charlotte.

    Few bands have succeeded at this sound in recent, but with the commercial success of Twenty-One Pilots and the return of Blink-182, Throne seems to attempt this.

    What comes through is a very different sound that can be described as a sort of Nu Metal, punk rock. In their nearly ten-year hiatus, the Trafton brothers worked with electronic music, which is clearly an influence in songs such as “That’s Just Me.”

    Throne’s self-title is a far departure from their debut album Balladry. In this latest, the band strives for more pop, catchy choruses, while creating a deeper and darker sound. Throne has become more related to bands like Royal Blood as to their pop-punk days.

    The second half of the album is much stronger with the final three songs on the album, “Make it Move,” “Breathing Room,” and “Stranger Things” all seeming unique to the rest of the album.

    Ten years later Throne has developed into a more mature sounding band, with a much darker sense about themselves and their music.
