  • Bethel Woods Center for the Arts Announces Summer 2015 Music Schedule

    Bethel Woods Center for the Arts – located at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival – has announced it’s summer 2015 music lineup. Boasting some of today’s hottest acts as well as some old school classics, there is plenty of music for all ages, all summer long. The site is also hosting Mysteryland Music Festival Memorial day weekend, May 22-25. The current schedule and lineup is listed below.

  • Camp Bisco Revival Might Not Happen

    Organizers trying for a revival of the Disco Biscuits’ Camp Bisco are running into issues that may make it difficult to host the festival this year.

    Schenectady County officials denied the new organizers a mass gathering permit, saying they want the festival to have a zero-tolerance drug policy, according to the Daily Gazette. They also want 50 police officers stationed throughout the concert grounds 24 a day throughout the festival, plus 20 officers to control traffic.

    Officials also cited concerns about traffic congestion and emergency response logistics.

    Camp Bisco Revival

    After seven years of Camp Bisco being run by MCP Presents, the festival was put on hiatus in 2014 as organizers dealt with drug issues and a lawsuit due to alleged inadequate emergency response to a woman having a seizure. This year, the owner of the country club where Camp Bisco has always been held in Mariaville and Gathering of the Vibes founder Ken Hays hope to hold a new kind of Camp Bisco with acts that attract an older crowd July 16-18.

    They have gotten permission from state police and the state departments of Health and Transportation, but need county approval as well. Stay tuned for updates on this potential Camp Bisco revival.

  • The Music Never Stopped GD50 Pre/Post shows announced

    An impressive group of musicians will play a group of pre- and post-party shows in Chicago billed as The Music Never Stopped to complement the Grateful Dead Fare the Well GD50 reunion run.

    The Music Never Stopped run kicks off Thursday, July 2, with shows at different venues by Thievery Corporation with special guests yet to be announced, Gene Ween with special guests Mariachi El Bronx, and a Rex Foundation benefit called High Steppin’ Into Town featuring Greensky Bluegrass, Keller Williams’ Grateful Grass and the Infamous Stringdusters.

    On Friday, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will start at 10 p.m., and Edwarde Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will perform at another venue from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

    Saturday, the Fourth of July, Railroad Earth will start a show at 11 p.m., and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will again play another venue with an 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. show.

    Sunday is the big culmination with the Fiyawrapper All Star Jam starting at 11 p.m. This group features Jennifer Hartswick of the Trey Anastasio Band as musical director and will include two other TAB musicians plus members of the Allman Brothers Band, Soulive/Lettuce, the Revivalists, Big Gigantic, Snarky Puppy and Break Science/Pretty Lights.

  • UPDATED: Darien Lake Concert Series 2015

    As the weather begins to heat up, so does the line up at the upcoming 2015 Summer Concert Series at Darien Lake. With still more announcements to come, some of todays hottest rock, pop, and country bands will join legends as they make their way through Central New York. Stay tune as NYS Music brings to you the latest on announcements as they are made.

    All Darien shows include free parking. Concert goers can also opt for an upgraded ticket that includes all day admission to the amusement park.

  • Rochester Lilac Festival 2015 Lineup

    Every year thousands upon thousands of people flood Highland Park in Rochester to enjoy the annual Lilac Festival 2015. Featuring a full hillside of blooming lilacs and other spring flowers, two weekends of craft vending, and a whole week of the city’s finest high brow and low brow food (Thanks Tahous!) – the biggest draw is ultimately the stellar musical lineup the city offers to music loving denizens for free. And wow – kudos to the organizers as this years lineup is jam-packed with talent.

    Festival producer Jeff Springut of the Springut group on this years festivities:

    “It’s always a delight to plan the musical lineup for the Rochester Lilac Festival, it’s a wide-open canvas, a free stage that goes from 10:30 in the morning until 8:30 in the evening. It’s a pleasure to have this opportunity to bring in some of the best touring musicians in the country.”

    Running the gambit from the 70’s cowboy rock of The Outlaws, the funk-tastic Mingo Fishtrap and Dr Dog to jam favorites Blues Traveler and Rusted Root – this year will leave no music fan unfulfilled.

    As always local bands get the focus most afternoons with Rochester’s own Thunderbody, Buddhahood, and Extended Family in the mix. The festival runs May 8-17 and admission is free. Check out the full lineup and day by day schedule below.

  • FESTY NEWS: 5th Annual Strawberry Jam Family Reunion and Food Drive

    Shake off those winter blues and get ready for Festy season. One of the first fests of the 2015 season is the 5th Annual Strawberry Jam Family Reunion and Food Drive at Edgewood Mountain in Laurens New, York. This family friendly event takes place May 15– 17. Tickets are on sale now for $65 presale or $75 at the gate for the entire weekend including on site camping and room for RVs. There is an additional Pre-party on Thursday May 14 for $15. VIP tickets will be announced in two weeks and stay tuned for some surprise guests on the bill. The festival includes jam bands from NY in addition to several bands from the Virginia Beach area. Headlining the event is central NY favorite SLUG who is preparing to embark on a national tour over the 2015 summer festival season.  A full weekend of activities are also planned in typical festival style – bonfires, spinning and fire dancing, a Kiddie Camp and family village with interactive arts and crafts for all ages. In conjunction with the event a food drive will be conducted to benefit local food banks and any profits from the event will also be donated to them as well.

  • Mister F “The Machine”

    For the third and last video for their brand new Snow Day Sessions EP – Mister F welcomes us to “The Machine.” The F are NY bred from the Albany area and feature brothers Matt and Ben Pickering on drums and bass, guitarist Andrew Chamberlaine, and jack of all keys Scott Hannay who gave us some details on the song’s background:

    “The Machine” was untitled during most of the Midwest tour –  it debuted on November ’14. We took suggestions from people, we thought of everything we could, but we just couldn’t come up with the *right* name, and didn’t want to just phone it in. We were in the van between shows watching a video of this guy, Bert Kreischer, on Joe Rogan’s podcast, telling a rather involved story about being abroad with a college class of his in Russia. He accidentally introduced himself as ‘The Machine’ to these Russian mobster bodyguards named Igor and Igor, and they laughed, partied, and took him in…and made him rob an entire train(and his classmates) with them. Obviously, we called the song “Igor and Igor”. That lasted for one show – we then decided that “The Machine” was more appropriate for the sound!

  • Reunion Announcement: Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit Announce Tour

    Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit have announced a summer reunion tour scheduled for late July and early August. The band will feature the old-school lineup of Col. Bruce Hampton, guitarist Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic), bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brother Band), keyboardist Matt Slocum and drummer Jeff Sipe. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 27 at 11am ET. The band has been on hiatus since 2011.

  • Alan Evans Reunites With Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe

    Buffalo native Alan Evans is at it again. This time, it is a reunion with soul-funk icon Karl Denson and his band Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe.

    Evans is no stranger to the funk scene as drummer for the wildly popular band Soulive, as well branching out with his own (now defunct) trio PlayOnBrother. When Soulive was in their freshman years, he was an integral part of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe almost three decades ago as one of their first drummers.

    Denson has seen his share of success – touring and recording with Lenny Kravitz’s band, then playing saxophone and singing for jazz/funk legends the Greyboy Allstars. More recently, Denson joined Slightly Stoopid, while still maintaining his Tiny Universe. Denson and his band recently released their debut album on Stoopid Records titled New Ammo. 

    With decades of experience and success behind them, Evans and Denson are most certainly a force to be reckoned with. Fresh off another successful Brooklyn Bowl residency – Bowlive – Evans will be shaking the walls with Denson. Though we have seen our fair share of Royal Family Records collaborations, this one is sure to leave fans begging for more. Keep an eye out for show announcements in the very near future.

  • Festy News: First Annual Moondance Meltdown Announces Lineup feat. Aqueous

    A new festival is in town to usher in the summer music season with some hearty acts. Moondance Meltdown is coming your way May 9th for a night of music at the Greeks in Newton, NJ and camping at The Great Divide campground.

    Headlining the festival is Buffalo’s Aqueous joined by NYC’s Dorsia, Inner Vision, One Day Waning, Mike Mcbride & the Family Band, Sprocket, and K-Diggs & the Telepathic Funk.

    A late night show for those 21+ will feature Horseshoe Throwin’ Freaks (moe. tribute band), and Albany’s Mister F.
