  • Twiddle and Kung Fu Team up for ‘Dirty Dozen Tour’ With Four Shows in New York

    The Dirty Dozen Tour features 12 massive performances from Co-Headlining musical acts of Twiddle and Kung-Fu. Syracuse will be their second date of the run, following Buffalo, before traveling to Albany, New York City and making their way for Atlanta. Due to the fact that both bands will be headlining the tour, fans will have to arrive early to the venue to see who will take stage first. These two groups have been dedicated to their growing fan base and the music community by scheduling non-stop tour dates, as well as planning to release soundboard audio of their live shows this spring and summer. Fans can also see both bands in June at the Saranac Brewery in Utica, NY opening for moe.

    Since emerging onto the music scene, Kung Fu has single-handedly redefined what it means to “bring the funk.” These gentleman have brought their own unique sound, fusing the unlikely genres of funk, electronic, jam, jazz and much more. Kung Fu has become a staple at many big name festivals as well as the smaller festivals, home town bars and venues. Seeing this band live is more than just a performance, but an experience. Kung Fu’s live performances have been referred to as “jaw dropping” and “musically mesmerizing.” Taking stage with the equally talented Twiddle will just mean that you’ll have to really brace yourself for a fantastic night of live music.

    Twiddle has taken the jam band music scene by storm, completely dismantling any preconceptions and notions on how far a group of guys from a small town in Vermont could really go. Over the past few years Twiddle has acquired a following to (no pun intended) beat the band. Fans of Twiddle travel far and wide to enjoy their live performances. Much like Kung Fu, Twiddle has also masterfully blended a unique array of genres including funk, reggae, jazz and bluegrass. The band has a very  unique understanding of each other on stage and off so their performances are nothing short of amazing. Each performance within the Dirty Dozen Tour will showcase two phenomenal bands who have redefined genres within their own respects and also made great strides for genres which may have been otherwise overlooked.

  • Nigel Hall Leaves Nth Power

    Nigel Hall, The Nth Power’s keyboardist, has announced his departure from the band in a series of tweets.

    Hall will be replaced by Courtney Smith, percussionist Weedie Braimah’s good friend. Smith, who plays in Kreative Pandemonium with Braimah, will man the keys and add vocals. He will slide into Hall’s place for the band’s recently started tour that runs steadily through mid-June and includes stops in Rochester and New York City.

  • Scott Weiland and Bandmates Devastated By Passing of Jeremy Brown

    In a Facebook message to his followers, Scott Weiland announced the passing of long time friend and guitarist, Jeremy Brown. Scheduled to perform Monday evening in Hollywood featuring new music from upcoming album, Blaster, Scott and bandmates became concerned when Jeremy was more than an hour late. Shortly thereafter, they received the call.

    “We received a call today about my friend Jeremy Brown that has shaken me to the core. We were all concerned this afternoon when Jeremy didn’t show up for a long-scheduled rehearsal for tonight’s album release show at School Night. An hour later, Jeremy’s family called us to say that he had passed away. I am in shock right now, everyone that knows him is devastated. It is a terrible loss that goes beyond words. He is one of my best friends, a truest friend and one of the most gifted guitar players that I’ve ever known. A true genius. It’s impossible to explain how much he will be missed and what a hole this will leave in our hearts. A post on Facebook feels so trite and small compared to the love that I have for him and for the talent that has passed on but I felt it was necessary to at least start here. Please keep his family in your thoughts.”

    Playing with The Wildabouts and Scott Weiland for seven years, Jeremy’s soulful style brought life to whatever he played. NYS Music and our readers send keeping family and friends our thoughts during this difficult time.

  • Sunflower & the Seeds, Tweed, &; Formula 5 @ Brooklyn Bowl 3/29

    Three tri-state area up and coming bands band will converge on Brooklyn Bowl this Sunday, 3/29. New Jersey based Sunflower & the Seeds will hit the stage first, the 7-piece band features Kyra “Sunflower” Schenck (vocals/guitar), Brittany Beckett (vocals), Victor Cornette (guitar), Karlee Bloom (keyboards), Joe Harris (bass), and Joe “Big Daddy” Huster. Schenck in hard rocking originals as well as covers from such legendary bands as Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac.

    Next on the bill coming to Brooklyn from the city of brotherly love is jamtronica band Tweed. Consisting of AJ DiBiase (guitar), Jon Tomczak (synth), Dan McDonald (bass), and Joe Vela (drums) their high energy performances and improvisational stylings have proven they can fill larger venues and hold their own with the best.

    Headliners Formula 5 will be bringing their four piece ensemble down the thruway and are guaranteed to close this night of great music out in formidable fashion. James W (bass), Greg M (drums), Mike McD (keys) and Joseph D (guitar) are recognized as a classic four piece jam band and are coming off of the release of their latest LP Edging On Catastrophe. This evening will be filled with guitar shredding riffs, face melting jams, and special guest appearances.

  • Mister F “The Machine”

    For the third and last video for their brand new Snow Day Sessions EP – Mister F welcomes us to “The Machine.” The F are NY bred from the Albany area and feature brothers Matt and Ben Pickering on drums and bass, guitarist Andrew Chamberlaine, and jack of all keys Scott Hannay who gave us some details on the song’s background:

    “The Machine” was untitled during most of the Midwest tour –  it debuted on November ’14. We took suggestions from people, we thought of everything we could, but we just couldn’t come up with the *right* name, and didn’t want to just phone it in. We were in the van between shows watching a video of this guy, Bert Kreischer, on Joe Rogan’s podcast, telling a rather involved story about being abroad with a college class of his in Russia. He accidentally introduced himself as ‘The Machine’ to these Russian mobster bodyguards named Igor and Igor, and they laughed, partied, and took him in…and made him rob an entire train(and his classmates) with them. Obviously, we called the song “Igor and Igor”. That lasted for one show – we then decided that “The Machine” was more appropriate for the sound!

  • Karyn Crisis Returns to Upstate with Gospel of the Witches

    It has been quite some time since trailblazing musician Karyn Crisis has played Upstate New York. She used to front the heavy rock band Crisis, and they made a few stops over the years in this area before disbanding in 2006. Now, she is set to bring her newest project to Trickshots in Clifton Park on Saturday March 28.

    Gospel of the Witches brand new album Salem’s Wounds was just released to the masses on Century Media Records. Karyn has laid low since leaving Crisis, focusing on her love or art and the occult. But after meeting her husband Davide Tiso, and starting to lend some vocals on his projects, she decided to venture forth into the world of music once again. The band started as an incantation between Davide and Karyn, and has morphed into a full on project with members of Immolation, Tombs and others join the ranks to bring this occult metal band to life. Upstate New York’s up and coming premier metal venue, Trickshots Billiards in Clifton Park, is lucky enough to house one of two special performances by the band on the east coast in support of their new record, thanks in part to the tireless efforts of Joelggernaut Productions.

    Also appearing on the bill will be local heavy bands Purifier, The Final Sleep and Black Iron Prison. Doors are at 7pm, and the $10 cover ensures you get a night you won’t soon forget, and shouldn’t miss out on, for every band brings something unique to the stage.   • Reunion Announcement: Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit Announce Tour

    Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit have announced a summer reunion tour scheduled for late July and early August. The band will feature the old-school lineup of Col. Bruce Hampton, guitarist Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic), bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brother Band), keyboardist Matt Slocum and drummer Jeff Sipe. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 27 at 11am ET. The band has been on hiatus since 2011.

  • Sworn Enemy to Support Biohazard at Bogies March 28

    Queens, NY metal core titans Sworn Enemy, who are on tour in support of their newest release “Living On Borrowed Time”. On their current tour with Brooklyn’s own Biohazard, they will be making a stop at Albany’s legendary punk and metal venue, Bogies at the end of March. Sworn Enemy who formed back in 2001 has proven time after time that their blend of old school hardcore definitely withstands the test of time. By delivering that extra heavy crunch and killer riffs it’s no question as to why 18 years later these guys are still crushing it.

  • Alan Evans Reunites With Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe

    Buffalo native Alan Evans is at it again. This time, it is a reunion with soul-funk icon Karl Denson and his band Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe.

    Evans is no stranger to the funk scene as drummer for the wildly popular band Soulive, as well branching out with his own (now defunct) trio PlayOnBrother. When Soulive was in their freshman years, he was an integral part of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe almost three decades ago as one of their first drummers.

    Denson has seen his share of success – touring and recording with Lenny Kravitz’s band, then playing saxophone and singing for jazz/funk legends the Greyboy Allstars. More recently, Denson joined Slightly Stoopid, while still maintaining his Tiny Universe. Denson and his band recently released their debut album on Stoopid Records titled New Ammo. 

    With decades of experience and success behind them, Evans and Denson are most certainly a force to be reckoned with. Fresh off another successful Brooklyn Bowl residency – Bowlive – Evans will be shaking the walls with Denson. Though we have seen our fair share of Royal Family Records collaborations, this one is sure to leave fans begging for more. Keep an eye out for show announcements in the very near future.

  • ‘Fare Thee Well’ Heads West for Additional Shows

    As reported by SportsBusinessDaily, ‘Fare Thee Well’, reuniting the ‘Core Four’ of the Grateful Dead, will be heading west to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, not far from Palo Alto, the birthplace of the Grateful Dead. Rumored dates point to June 26-28, the weekend prior to the final shows at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL.

    While there is no official word on the lineup and dates are not yet confirmed, word leaking out means that we will be seeing more Dead this summer than previously expected.
