  • Norah Jones Tour Making Multiple Stops in New York State

    Genre-hopping and genre-defying singer/songwriter Norah Jones is embarking on a few-week-long tour that will be closing with a three-show run through New York state.

    The nine-time Grammy winner has collaborated with everyone from Ryan Adams to Billy Joe Armstrong to Bill Frisell on her way to selling over 40 million records. Her latest solo album, 2012’s …Little Broken Hearts, was produced by Dangermouse, whom she had previously worked with on Italian composer Daniele Luppi’s spaghetti Western project, Rome.

    Fans can expect to hear songs from across Jones’ entire catalog on her fall dates.

    The tour makes a stop at KodakHall at Eastman Theater in Rochester on Nov. 6, then moves on to the State Theater in Ithaca the next night before concluding at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester on Nov. 8. Ticket presales start today, and general on sales have not been announced at this time. Full tour dates are listed below.

  • Natalie Cressman Band and Jennifer Hartswick Band at Brooklyn Bowl August 27

    On the cusp of announcing two nights of shows at the Kings Theater and the release of their new album Paper Wheels, Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman of Trey Anastasio Band will bring their individual solo projects to Brooklyn Bowl for a night of jazz and funk.

Natalie’s dynamic trombone play and soaring vocals lead the group through a dynamic blend of jazz and funk that will be sure to keep you grooving.

    Jennifer Hartswick, the senior member of TAB’s horn section, will be headlining this evening of explosive tunes with a marvelously curated group consisting of Bob Lanzetti (Guitar, Snarky Puppy), Rodney Flood (Drummer), Dezron Douglas (Bass), Rob Marscher (Keys, Addison Groove Project/Matisyahu) following up the release of soulful and intimate Ocean Floor .

  • It’s Official: Sony Music Entertainment Acquired Century Media

    Century Media, one of metal and hard rock’s most prominent indie record labels, has been bought by Sony Music Entertainment for almost $20 million. Century Media has launched the careers of well known bands such as In This Moment, Stuck Mojo, Fozzy, Shadows Fall, Lacuna Coil, Suicide Silence and many more.

    Founder and CEO Robert Krampf (above) is very pleased and was quoted stating (via Blabbermouth.net):

    “The future of Century is incredibly bright, the company I founded over 25 years ago is moving into its strongest chapter yet with the best music company in the world, Sony Music. I am tremendously excited to work with the outstanding executive teams at Sony Music and RED to further grow Century’s labels as a dominant force in rock, prog, alternative and metal. The sky is the limit.”

    The purchase includes every Century Media label including Another Century (rock), InsideOut Music (progressive), People Like You (post-punk, alternative) and Superball (alternative, modern progressive).

    Krampf will continue to serve as CEO for Century, and RED Distribution will handle distribution for Century in the U.S., while Sony will pick up international distribution.

  • Trey Anastasio Album ‘Paper Wheels’ to be Released October 30

    Phish front man Trey Anastasio has announced his latest solo album, Paper Wheels, is finally available for pre-order at Trey’s store and Phish Dry Goods. The album will be released Oct. 30 and will be offered as a limited edition with only 4,000 copies.

    This will be Anastasio’s third LP as a solo artist. The album was expected to be released in early 2015 but was delayed. Once the material was ready, however, the album only took a week to record.

    To promote Paper Wheels, Trey Anastasio Band has announced a fall tour. The tour will kick off in Brooklyn on Oct. 16. The band will spend the rest of the tour on the West Coast, including a sold-out show in Las Vegas, and will end in Denver on Nov. 14.

    Tickets for all shows will be available through a pre-sale starting at noon Aug. 27 and ending at 5 p.m. Sept. 2 at Trey’s website. Tickets will go on sale to the general public Sept. 3.

  • Paul McCartney Fall Tour Includes Date in Buffalo

    In the 55-year musical career of Paul McCartney, perhaps the most successful rock-and-roll musician of all-time, he has never played in Buffalo — not as a Beatle, a Wing, nor as a solo act.6f2ab431fcc3_143644104385_nyhedstor2

    That will change on Oct. 22 as Sir Paul will play at 8 p.m. at First Niagara Center in downtown Buffalo.

    The 21-time Grammy winner has been announcing shows for his fall “Out There” tour.  The tour also includes shows in Columbus, Ohio; University Park, Pennsylvania; Toronto, Ontario; and Detroit.

    McCartney’s concert in Buffalo is his second show in upstate New York in as many years, following his performance in July 2014 at Albany’s Times Union Center.

    McCartney has written over 500 songs, including 32 that have reached number 1 in the United States. The British superstar has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two times, both as a member of The Beatles and as an individual.

    The legendary performer is known to give shows that last nearly four hours, even at his advanced age of 73. In a July show in Stockholm, Sweden, McCartney played 40 songs, 27 of which were Beatles songs.

  • Dead and Company Confirm First U.S. Tour, New Years Run

    On the heels of the announced Halloween show at Madison Square Garden and subsequent additional date due to popular demand, an official tour has now been announced via the official Dead and Company Instagram account. The first date of the tour will be in Albany at the Times Union Center on Oct. 29. Pre-sale ticket sales for American Express card holders begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26. General public on-sale date is Friday, Aug. 28.

    Following the Albany and MSG shows, the tour continues to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Worcester, Massachusetts. The tour wraps on the West Coast with a pair of shows at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Dec. 27 and 28 and a New Years run  at the Forum in Los Angeles Dec. 30 and 31.

    The Grateful Dead hold the Times Union Arena record for most times played with 13 shows between 1990-1995. The certified gold 1996 release Dozin’ at the Knick was recorded at Times Union (formerly known as Knickerbocker Arena) in March of 1990.

    As the 2015 Great New York State Fair approaches opening day, the lineup has ironed out nicely for the week.  Although a slow start, we have some award-winning musicians and comedians coming to the Grandstands, while Chevy Court once again will draw in record crowds for their free concert series.  With record-breaking crowds last year, it is anticipated to repeat and exceed these records with the $1 day once again on Labor Day and now $3 Thursdays added to the lineup.

    When it comes to the most diverse offering of culinary delights, you only have to visit the Great NY State Fair to get everything from fan favorites of chocolate milk to fried anything.  In addition to the many food vendors, throughout the entire grounds you can find some of NY State’s finest culinary eats offered and wineries galore.

    Last year’s attendees asked for some healthier options, and this year your request was answered.  Make sure to find the new vegan/vegetarian stand, Strong Hearts Café, in the International building.  The acclaimed vegan/vegetarian restaurant brings its signature focus on great taste to the Fair. Everything on the menu is 100% vegan and 1000% delicious. There you’ll find in addition to entrees, their non-dairy milkshakes, which will include a new flavor especially for the Fair. Although they’ve brought the deep fryer, it’s solely for their Vegan Wings. In addition to our vegan vendor, a new gluten-free vendor will also be joining the Fair, so make sure to check them out for the healthier fare at the fair.

    Whether it’s healthier choices or the fair favorites, meals can be on the fly or planned ahead by visiting the sites new food finder app.  Just type in the type of food you would like, and viola’ your route will be planned.

    There is just about something for everyone to keep you busy throughout the day as you meander in and out of the buildings taking in everything from promotional items to best in fair for horticulture, arts, and livestock.  Whether it’s shows and competitions that bring you to the fair, the food, the rides and games, or the entertainment, you are bound for a fun time.

    I highly suggest you downloading the app for the NYState Fair as well as take a peek at the parking and fair maps to plan the easiest pathways in and around the activities for the most enjoyable experience. Planning ahead always helps to get the most of your action packed day as well as take advantage of all there is to be offered.

  • GhostxShip Farewell Show – One Last Chance to Party

    Syracuse hardcore band GhostxShip have officially announced their farewell show at the St. Clare Annex in Syracuse on Sunday August 30. GhostxShip started out in 2009 and has cultivated a massive local and national fan base. They have been dubbed as the torch bearers of the Syracuse straight edge Hardcore scene by local predecessors.

    Some notable career highlights include: playing the Heart fest in 2013 and 2014, the iMatter Fest in 2014 and 2015, South EastBeast in 2015, the notable New England Metal & Hardcore Fest in 2015 and playing with Metalcore legends such as Earth Crisis, Shai Hulud, Bane and Stick to Your Guns to name a few.

    “These are the moments that we live for”

    Even though this is a farewell show, GhostxShip has no intentions of “fading away” completely. The band issued the following statement earlier this summer after they announced they would be ending GhostxShip to pursue other projects, “Here’s the thing… We have NO intentions of just playing a few shows and fading away. No, that’s not how we do things. We are going to be playing weekends and festivals all summer. We will uphold as many obligations as possible and we will try to get to as many places as we can. This will all culminate in August 2015 at our farewell show.”

    Those who are not familiar with the craziness that occurs at GhostxShip shows, be prepared for crazy folks in costumes, balloons, pillow fights, an assortment of pool toys, the infamous “mosh cam” and more unusual surprises. If you haven’t been to one of their shows…remember this is your last chance! The band assures all in attendance that this will be their biggest party ever, even more epic than the show they played with Stick To Your Guns last year. In fact, they say it will be a party like that times ten! So, epic is an understatement. Everyone come on out and help sink the craziest ship in Syracuse! Don’t miss GhostxShip’s farewell show.   • Drum Boogie Festival Makes September Return to Woodstock

    Andy Lee Field in Woodstock will again play host to the Drum Boogie Festival.

    The free event takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 (rain date is Sunday, Sept. 13) and offers a family friendly mix of musical styles that involve percussion, such as rock, jazz, classical, African, reggae and more. As indicated in the festival name, all performances will highlight percussion instruments.

    Performing this year is the legendary jazz percussionist Jack DeJohnette, who is also on the board of advisors for the event. DeJohnette, a legend himself, has also been a sideman for such performers as Miles Davis, Bill Evans and Stan Getz. His drumming style has been described by Modern Drummer magazine as “beyond technique.”

    Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and plan to spend the day. Food vendors will be on site as well.

    The free, biennial festival, directed by Garry Kvistad of Woodstock Chimes, “presents world class talent while providing an opportunity for emerging or lesser known talent to perform together.” It was established to entertain, educate and enlighten while promoting percussion music from around the world.   • Corey Taylor on Almost Becoming a History Teacher, Slipknot Fans and Performing Live

    In a recent interview with Zippo Encore Artist Spotlight during Slipknot’s Summer’s Last Stand tour, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor enlightened everyone about performing live, Slipknot fans and what he would do for a day job if he didn’t find music.

    “Getting fired up for stage is pretty easy, um cause I love to play.”

    “Put the stuff on, um you know, you know touchin’ base with all the guys, ah comin’ together for the huddle. You know going back stage and waiting for the audience to pop, I mean that gets the adrenaline going like nobody’s business and just the fact that knowing you’re gonna play songs that you absolutely love.”

    “It’s a lot of little things that, just make every show not only unique, but vital for me.”

    “I’m not one of these guys who waits 3 hours to go on stage, I can’t wait, and if we’re late going on I’m losing my mind so I, I just love playing live.”

    “I love our fans, you know I mean the fans are the whole reason we have this. The fans are the whole reason we get up in the morning. There the whole reason why we strap this stuff on every night and then the whole reason that we kill each other on stage Every Single Time.”

    Corey Taylor on music possible different career:

    “Music is everything. I mean music is so important to me that, if I didn’t have it , I would not be the same person and for the longest time I dint know that  I wanted to do music, I mean I wanted to be a teacher, I wanted to be a history teacher. um but I kinda just kept coming back to music.”

    “The music is probably the last “Vital”, emotion that we all have in common and it doesn’t have to be the same style, but its the one thing that ties us all together.”

    “Clown said it best, every show is a war, every song is a battle and If you’re not trying to win, there’s no point to it.”

    Corey and the boys from Slipknot are about to close their current Summer’s Last Stand tour on Sept. 5 at the Gexa Energy Pavilion in Dallas, Texas.
