  • Arlo Guthrie to Perform in Lake George this August

    Famed folk musician Arlo Guthrie will perform this summer at the new Festival Space at Charles R. Wood Park in Lake George on Sunday, August 23.

    Guthrie, best known for “Alice’s Restaurant” and his 1969 Woodstock performance, plays the Capital Region on a semi-regular basis, last performing at Bardovan Opera House in Poughkeepsie.

    The currently under construction venue holds 3,000 people and is located on the site of the former Gaslight Village. The park is expected to be open by the beginning of the summer. Tickets for Arlo Guthrie’s performance are now available online.

  • Phish to Release Amsterdam 97 Box Set

    Much like World War veteran grandfathers in the 1940s, Phish completed two tours of Europe in 1997, including three shows at the famed Paradiso in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The three shows from February 17, July 1 and July 2, 1997, will be featured in an 8-disc box set to be released in June through JEMP Records.

    Amazon notes on the show include: An all new 8-CD Box Set from Phish’s infrequent European shows. Full shows from 2/17/97, 7/1/97 and 7/2/97 at the Paradiso, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. On February 17, 1997 Phish first played Paradiso, a converted former church turned rock-club/cultural center with a capacity of about 1500. Over the next four months, Phish logged three breakthrough shows at this historic venue where the intimate setting pushed the music to new heights again and again. From the Soul Shakedown party opener and fluid, psychedelic improvisation-clinic-of-a-set II (Down With Disease > Carini > Taste > Down With Disease) on 2/17/97 to the “back of the worm” Ghost opener, Reba and another peak transcendent Set II [Fish Keyboard Jam > Timber (Jerry) > Bathtub Gin > Cities] on 7/1/97 through the Mike’s Groove Sandwich and must-hear Stash > Llama > Wormtown Jam plus the double encore of 7/2/97, these three shows spread over 8 CD’s comprise some of the most experimental music Phish ever played. The three shows on the Amsterdam box, the only Phish shows to-date at Paradiso, combine to deliver the full impact of a shared peak experience in an exotic locale seamlessly integrated and sizzling with creative intensity. The shows were recorded by Paul Languedoc to multitrack tape, mixed by Jon Altschiller and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. Pick up this set and prepare for transport to the canals of Amsterdam…to the back of the worm.

  • Strawberries & Song, Live on the Lawn at Judson Meadows in Glenville

    Strawberries and Song, with music on the last Tuesday of each month this summer, is a new music series coming to Glenville, NY, outside of Schenectady. Events are held at Judson Meadows Assisted Living home from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., with vendors onsite for each show.

  • Opeth Announces The Only Two US Shows for 25th Anniversary Tour: NYC and LA

    The Swedish progressive metal band we’ve known for 25 years as Opeth is marking their anniversary with a European and Mexican/South American tour freshly underway. Don’t let that hinder your spirits entirely, however. This week the band announced two special US shows: NYC at the Beacon Theater October 22 and Los Angeles, CA at the Orpheum Theater October 24.

    Opeth will perform two sets, including the album Ghost Reveries in its entirety to mark the 10th anniversary of its 2005 release. The band is also touring on the crest of their most recent release Pale Communion.

    Tickets for both the NYC and LA shows have sold out very quickly, within hours of the public on-sale date of May 1.

  • Sittin’ In: Trey Chills with Phil

    Last night Californians got a real treat when Trey Anastasio popped into Terrapin Crossroads and sat in with Phil Lesh, and son Grahame for a surprise performance. Dead classics “Bertha” and “Going Down the Road Feelin’ Bad” were both played – and proved Trey is definitely ready for his ‘Fare Thee Well’ role this summer.   • Long-Time NYC Radio DJ Vin Scelsa On The Mic For ‘Idiot’s Delight’ One Final Time Tonight

    Vin Scelsa has been hosting his free-form radio program Idiot’s Delight for nearly 50 years (47 to be exact), making appearances with the program on a handful of FM radio stations in the NYC area and even on SiriusXM.

    For more than the last decade, Vin has called WFUV 90.7 in The Bronx his radio home. Tonight, May 2, he will take the mic one last time before saying farewell to loyal fans and music lovers.

  • Buffalo Philharmonic and more to Perform Grateful Dead at Artpark

    On July 12 at Artpark in Lewiston, NY to celebrate 50 Years of the Grateful Dead, The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the music of the Grateful Dead, including performances by bands Crazy Fingers, The Grass is Dead, The Maniacs, Hayden Fogle and the Ambassadors, The Growlers Blues Band, and Savannah and the Kings. Food, drink and memorabilia will be available for sale.

    Tickets are $12 for the all day affair, with VIP passes $39.

  • Camp Bisco Returns, Announces Lineup

    Camp Bisco is returning home to Pennsylvania at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA. Featuring beautiful grounds, a world class waterpark, overnight camping space and a bevy of hotel options, Montage Mountain looks like it will shift the festival into a new era.

    The festival recently hit a wall with local officials in Mariaville, NY, home to Camp Bisco from 2007-2013, with the denial of a mass gathering permit. Read more here.

  • Phish to Trademark ‘Donut’ Pattern of Drummer’s Dress

    As reported by PhanArt, Phish has filed paperwork to trademark Jon Fishman’s iconic donut dress pattern.

    From PhanArt: “While the dress Fishman wears has been a staple of quite literally every performance in the past 30 years, the filing of the trademark is interesting. This is being done either to protect current interests in use of the red circles on a blue background, or to prevent the pattern from being used by anyone other than Phish for commercial use, comparable to the Phish logo and words Gamehendge, among others.”

    phish dinner and a movie Phish Donuts“The description of the pattern in the filing states, “The mark consists of a series of red circles with holes in the center, placed in pattern against a blue background, where each circle is equidistant from the other.” What that means is up to interpretation, should the Trademark be approved, a process that can take many months.”

  • Canalside Buffalo Announces Free Summer Concert Series 2015

    Canalside Buffalo has announced their summer Thursday free concert lineup for 2015. The outdoor harbor series is nestled on a gorgeous plot of land nestled up against Lake Erie. Beers a plenty will be on hand as well as some of Buffalo’s excellent food trucks and vendors. The lineup is diverse as usual bringing Buffalonians a mix of genre’s with big headliners and top notch locally based talent.

    Indie darlings Matt & Kim kick things off June 6. Other acts include Spoon, Everclear, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Yonder Mountain String Band, Iron & Wine and THE En Vogue.

    One of the biggest highlights here – Aug 6 Umphrey’s Mcgee will traverse the skyway to Buffalo’s Harbor Series for a free show. Touring behind their latest release – Similar Skin – UM will bring their complex compositions to Buffalo’s exploding harbor district. Joining them will be Buffalo’s fastest growing band – Aqueous. Hot off a way sold out show featuring a Cake themed set at Buffalo’s Iron Works and critical acclaim for their progressive groove rock sound, the combined draw here guarantees to pack the joint. Show up early to get a good spot – these two bands are gonna tear the place up.
