  • Phish Notes: MagnaBall Update, LiveBait 11 Released

    Just ahead of its Summer Tour opener in Bend, Oregon, tonight, Phish has released a few updates on MagnaBall and also the band’s annual pre-tour sampler download, LiveBait 11.

    MagnaBall, a three-day festival at Watkins Glen International from Aug. 21 to 23, is Phish’s 10th festival. In a second wave drop of news, it was announced that the JEMP Record Store, which was a big hit at Super Ball IX, will return this year. Rift will be released on vinyl for the first time. On 180-gram water-blue vinyl,  it will only be available at the JEMP store.

    In an effort to help the environment and keep the grounds clean, Phish announced its MagnaWater Program, where attendees can bring up to 32-ounce, refillable bottles and top them off with cold, filtered water for $1 per fill. Each dollar goes to the WaterWheel Foundation. There will also be stations throughout the festival to fill up with regular drinking water.

    The band also released LiveBait 11, a sampler of live songs for free download. Highlights include a 24-minute “Runaway Jim” from Shoreline Ampitheater on 7-31-1997, a raucous “Tweezer” from Pauley Pavillion on 12-1-1996 and the “Prince Caspian>Light” from Dick’s Sporting Goods Arena on 9-1-2012.

  • FOLD Festival Announces Diverse Lineup

Let’s dance!” Nile Rodgers, Grammy-winning composer, guitarist, and producer, is putting on FOLD Festival and is offering up one of the most diverse lineups this summer to get fans to do just that.

    FOLD Festival is taking place in Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead on Aug. 4-5. The mixed lineup mentioned includes musical acts from many walks of life, including hip hop, alternative rock, country, R&B, funk and soul. Rodgers and his band CHIC are one of the many headliners of the two-day all-star event. Other top acts include Beck, Pharrell Williams, Chaka Khan, Keith Urban and many more.

    One of the more interesting features of the festival is that Rodgers will be conducting recording sessions with certain artists at a private studio outside of the festival grounds. Details have been scant, but it’s an interesting twist with some potential follow-up to the festival-goers and even those that don’t attend.

    All tickets can be purchased at the festival’s website, with general admission tickets costing $137, VIP $399, and Ultra VIP $999.

    The lineup for each night has been released, but more acts are expected to be announced. Both nights will be hosted by CHIC, featuring Nile Rodgers, with Grandmaster Melle Mel playing the role of emcee.

  • Godsmack, Sevendust to Play Historic Shows This Fall

    Sully and the boys from Godsmack have announced that they will pack up the gear and hit the road once again for a 12-date fall tour. Sevendust will also pack up the tour bus and hit the road to help support the tour.

    Godsmack has been touring in support of its current sixth studio album, “1000hp,” for the last year.  Earlier in the year the band toured with Papa Roach on their spring tour.

    In 2014, former Mayor of Boston, Marty Walsh, declared August, 6 as “Godsmack” day in the city of Boston. The accolade was achieved because of the success the band has had over the years.

    Godsmack has had twenty, top ten rock radio hits so far in their career, in which fifteen of those singles landed in the top 5. In 2001, Godsmack won Billboards “Rock Artist of the Year” award.

    Sevendust is set to release its 11th studio album sometime this year. There have been rumors about names for the album but nothing is official yet. Numerous music sites have claimed that the album has been completed since March of 2015.

    It has also been rumored that the band will take a hiatus after the album release and possible headline tour even though guitarist for the band, Clint Lowery, has stated that the band hopes to record a second acoustic album in the next two years and would like to make it part of the Sevendust recording cycle.

    New York will see the only tour stop in Poughkeepsie at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center on Wednesday, October 14. This tour is being labeled as historic, as two of the best ever in rock music reunite for some memorable shows.

  • Disturbed To Play First Show On Album Release Date

    Disturbed has announced that they will play their first show in over four years in their hometown of Chicago on Aug. 21 at The House Of Blues.

    Aug. 21 also marks the date for the bands much anticipated returning sixth studio album, Immortalized.

    Could this be the first show in a possible future tour announcement? Fans can only hope so, even though a tour will eventually head our way in the near future.

    The band ended their hiatus recently with a brand new music video for the lead single off the new album titled “The Vengeful One.”

    Disturbed secretly recorded the album over the last year. The album will be released through Reprise Records.

    The band has posted numerous videos on Facebook titled “The Making Of Immortalized,” explaining how things came about.

    Disturbed’s last four studio albums debuted at number one on the rock charts. With all the anticipation for this release, it could mean a fifth consecutive top-selling album for the band come Aug. 21.

    Disturbed was formed in 1994 under the name Brawl. Two years later in 1996 is when the band changed their name to Disturbed after the hiring of frontman David Draiman and the parting of Erich Awalt.

    The current band line-up has been together since 2003. Bassist John Moyer replaced the fired Steve Kmak in 2003 and played his first show with the band at the House Of Blues. Kmak was fired by the band for “personality differences” right after the band’s Music As A Weapon II Tour.

    Disturbed is: David Draiman (vocals), Dan Donegan (guitar), John Moyer (bass), and Mike Wengren (drums).

    Great music is good; great music for a cause is even greater. Just announced, Pearl Jam, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and Beyoncé will play the 2015 Global Citizen Festival taking place on the Great Lawn of Central Park in the heart of Manhattan on Saturday Sept. 26.

  • Rock On: Neil Young Endorses Bernie Sanders

    Watch out guys, Bernie Sanders is coming in hot. The Vermont senator who is vying for a democratic party nomination for the 2016 election, pulled an unexpectedly large turnout in Colorado recently. According to a press release, it was one of the biggest crowds for any presidential candidate so far.

    As Sanders was introduced Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” was playing, fully sanctioned by the musician himself. Neil Young previously had beef with Donald Trump over unauthorized use of his music at a campaign event in June.

    Neil Young, who is Canadian, said that he supports Bernie Sanders for president.

  • Grateful Dead Art Show Lineup During ‘Fare Thee Well’ Revealed

    During the Grateful Dead’s much anticipated “Fare Thee Well” reunion and farewell concerts at Chicago’s Soldier Field July 3-5, there will be a coinciding art show by PhanArt, titled In All Good Company, the largest exhibition of Grateful Dead art and artists. The art show will feature a newly announced lineup of dozens of artists displaying and selling posters, pins, clothing and photography.

    grateful dead art showThe exhibition, put together by PhanArt, will take place from noon until 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday 1 mile from the stadium at the historic Congress Plaza Hotel on 520 South Michigan Ave., near Grant Park. Local Chicago bands Jack Straw and Under the Willow will complement the artistic displays throughout the weekend. In addition, Blank Space Arts will be curating a playlist, providing an audio background to the visual effect of the art.

    In All Good Company offers free admission to all visitors and looks to continue the great tradition that PhanArt has had since its inception in 2013. Produced by Pete Mason, PhanArt exhibitions have been held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Miami, representing an effort to offer fans a rich variety of original concert art.
