  • John Legend ‘The All Of Me’ Acoustic Tour

    Nine-time Grammy Award winning artist John Legend has announced dates for his 2014 North American acoustic spring tour – An Evening with John Legend: The All of Me Tour.

    The tour will begin on March 20th in Temecula, CA at the Penchanga Resort & Casino and will conclude on June 7th at the Ferguson Center in Newport News, VA. The 46 city tour will support Legend’s current recording Love in the Future and will feature Legend in an intimate/acoustic setting, highlighted by a five-piece string quartet.

    Legend will bring the tour to New York State on Thursday, May 15th at the Theatre At Westbury in Westbury, N.Y, Friday, May 16th at the historic Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady, N.Y, Sunday, May 18th at the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y and Saturday, May 31st at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, N.Y.     Legend’s highly acclaimed fourth studio album Love in the Future, which continues to gain momentum on the Billboard 200 chart and currently sits in the top 10 on the R&B Album Chart. The albums single “All of Me,” was recently certified Gold sales status.

  • Rhubarb/Ocupanther/Brown Sugar at Nietzsche’s Buffalo April 4th

    10173476_10152350524041789_1819991101_nRhubarb sucks. At least that’s what their website “rhubarbsucks.com” would seem to indicate. However, the music of Rhubarb, self-described as “twisted psychedelic funk”, that also contains elements of surf rock, grunge, jazz and more, most certainly is the polar opposite of suck and they’re at Nietzsche’s this week. The band’s been on the Buffalo music scene for 15 years now, most recently supporting their 2013 release Shoot Yer Body Baby. Buffalo fans are no doubt psyched about this upcoming show, not only due to the excellence of the ‘barb, but also due to the killer support coming along for the ride.

    Rochester’s Ocupanther, birthed in 2011 from elements of the now defunct Pia Mater, plays their own brand of psychedelia and electronica-infused funky rock and roll. Fresh out of studio sessions for their upcoming new 3rd album, Ocupanther will likely feature a mix of brand new material and classics for the Nietzsche’s faithful. Special guest sit ins are always a possibility as well.

    Along for the ride up front is the brand new University of Buffalo jam club birthed Brown Sugar. Debuting a few weeks back for the brilliant Aqueous “mystery artist” themed night, this trio brought the jams more like it was their 50th show much to the delight of onlookers.

    Music starts promptly at 10PM and is a mere 5$. Put down your smart phones, lock up the cable remote, and come dance. It won’t suck, we promise!

  • Night Lights Fall Music Festival Lineup Announced: It’s a Doozy

    Night Lights Fall Music Festival is only venturing into their fourth year, but they packed a serious punch in terms of talent when they made their initial announcement this past week.  Also known as “The Carnival of Lights,” the annual festival takes place at The Heron, located just outside of Jamestown, NY, and is set for the weekend of September 12th and 13th this year.  Night Lights is unique in the sense that, besides great music, it packs a visual light show that is set up throughout the venue’s sprawling forest.  It’s something that you really need to see in person as pictures only paint part of the picture.

    The festival is looking to climb to the top of the region with a huge headliner.  Fresh off their Grammy win and with enough hype to carry them for the rest of their careers, Snarky Puppy will be making their return to the region to try to one-up Marco Benevento’s incredible performance from last year.  The lineup doesn’t drop off from there – with support from Turkuaz, The Mike Dillon Band, Consider the Source, Jimkata, Aqueous, The Manhattan Project, Smackdab, Lazlo Hollyfeld, and many more.  The organizers have even stated that a “few more doozies” are soon to be announced.

    Early bird tickets are on sale now for $60, but only for a limited time, so get them quick!  This is easily the best lineup for Night Lights yet, making it one of the must-see festivals in the Western NY region this year.  Keep your eyes peeled for future announcements, as this one is only going to get better!

  • Decadence Heads to West Coast to Record Second Album

    North Creek, New York natives, and Adirondack roots rock band Decadence, are heading off to California to work with Waylon Jenning’s son, Shooter Jennings on their next album. Shooter will help produce the album.

    In September of 2013, the band had the chance to play alongside Shooter Jennings and others like Chase Rice, Lainey Wilson, Drew Baldridge and Frank Foster at the Cottonstock in Monroe, Louisiana.

    The band has also opened for Nashville Pussy, Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band, The Mallet Brothers Band, Underhill Rose and Woody Pines to name a few.

    Decadence has been playing regularly all over New York State. Most notably down in New York City at venues like the Shanghi Rock Hotel and Tammany Hall. They have also done a string of shows out-of-state in Tennessee and Florida.

    Decadence’s style of music is a fusion rock meets blues and country.

    Their debut album “Love Loud” was released in June of 2012. While in Nashville, Tennessee, the band recorded their current EP “Tales From The Mountain,” which was recorded at Ocean Way Studio in September of 2013.

    Two tracks off the current EP “Too Much Fun” and “Dogtown Cadillac” have received airplay on many radio stations with a positive response from listeners.

    When talking about the new album, band member Katy Cole says “We’re bringing back the good things about music. It’s not just country, rock, blues and jazz. It encompasses so many genres.” 

    Cole also states that the album will be released on BCR (Black Country Rock) Los Angeles and that the band will undergo a name change to “Last Daze.”

    Formed in 1998, Decadence/Last Daze is Jen Gadway (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Katy Cole  (vocals, guitar, piano), Chris Schempp (lead guitar), Matt Dower (drums) and Mick Changelo (bass guitar).

  • UMBowl V Themes Announced: Odds Are Everyone Wins

    Umphrey’s McGee is an innovative band. Striving to provide new experiences for fans with things like sUMmer school, the headphones and snowcones experience, and their subscription model website allowing unlimited access to content for a reasonable monthly fee, the band elevates itself above the pack before you even get to the face melting music. Nothing substantiates this innovation more than the annual UMbowl with version V coming up next.

    Starting in 2010 this 4 set experience unites the audience and band into one unit, with all quarters featuring fan interaction that constantly changes. Not surprisingly, these shows sell out immediately and this years fifth rendition is no exception. Taking place at the esteemed Capital Theater May 3rd in Portchester NY, this years themes should have fans mouths watering in anticipation. Here is the breakdown straight from Umphreys.com:

    Q1.

    Ah . . . Jimmy Stewart. You never let us down. How much you’ve given all of us through the years. Raw Stewage returns for a three-peat. UMBowl V kicks off with an entire set of your favorite pieces of improv stitched together to create a long-form piece of new music. Ticket buyers will vote on their favorite live moments, and the band will take those Legos and assemble them into one tidy package for Q1. The Raw Stewage quarter has evolved into a song incubator as it continues to spawn new UM originals year after year.

    Q2.

    The evening rolls along with the ever popular All Request Quarter. All ticket buyers receive a ballot to vote for the songs you ‘d most like to hear, from rarer UM tunes to alternate versions of “the hits” to classic covers, including multiple new, unreleased options . As in the past, there will also be a write-in category for you to submit your own requests.

    Q3.

    Q3 is a Stew Art Event, an S2. This one of kind Umphrey’s innovation returns to the UMBowl for its 5th year. The band will play a full set of improvisation based exclusively on themes, ideas, scenes, and concepts presented by fans. Entries will be submitted via text message by those in attendance and the best of the best will be added to the playbook. The selected themes will appear before both the band and audience in real-time so split second decisions will be paramount. Expect handoffs and Hail Mary’s as one musical idea is lateral to another.     Q4.

    Rounding out the festivities will be the Choose Your Own Adventure experience. Those in attendance will be calling the plays, quarterbacking the music to unfold at your will. A series of choices will be presented to the audience on large projection screens and you will decide the set list in real-time. Voting will occur via text message and the results will be tallied as they roll in. You’ll be able to choose from a wide variety of UM originals, improvisational styles, and cover songs. You pick the plays and determine the strategy to make it a killer set. This one is in your hands. Don’t blow it.

  • Artpark Announces First Group of Artists for Summer 2014 Lineup

    With the summer season approaching, the anticipation for nights spent outside listening to live music is rising almost as quickly as the temperatures.  One of Buffalo’s most eagerly awaited is the announcement of Artpark Tuesday and Wednesday concert series for 2014.  As of this week, the wait is finally over as the folks at Artpark made an initial announcement, revealing five shows for the upcoming season.

    The five shows, listed below, are already a great start that will be added to throughout the Spring.  Tickets for these Artpark events will go on sale on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 10am through the Artpark box office and Tickets.com.  Where else can you catch a band like Widespread Panic for next to nothing and with a gorgeous view to boot?

    First Niagara presents Tuesdays in the Park lineup: 
    June 10 (Opening Night) – Daryl Hall & John Oates – tickets are $12

  • Alan Evans Trio Changes Name to Alan Evans’ Playonbrother

    AE3 to AEP.  While hard to understand at first take, it begins to make sense when you hear it straight from Alan Evans himself.  Announced the other day, the Alan Evans Trio has changed their name to Alan Evans’ Playonbrother, effective immediately.  Evans explained the why behind the change, saying, “Honestly, I just got tired of people assuming that we were a jazz trio.”

    alan evans trioOther than the name Alan Evans Trio, everything else remains intact and on schedule.  Beau Sasser and Danny Mayer still make up the other two-thirds of the band and all of the tour dates they scheduled are still on.  From a recording standpoint, the guys are heading into the studio as we speak to record the follow-up to Merkaba, an album honored in the Best of 2013.  In addition to that, they will also be releasing the transcendental Woodstock Sessions album next week on March 25th. As for touring, the band is getting ready to hit the road with Turkuaz and will be visiting Upstate New York on several occasions (Saratoga Springs on 3/27, Syracuse on 3/28, Rochester on 4/17, and Buffalo on 4/18).  With nothing musically changing, there’s nothing more to say but play on!

  • KISS and Def Leppard Rocking Across the Country This Summer

    KISS and Def Leppard announced a summer tour that will span 42 cities throughout the United States, this summer. The tour will be hitting Upstate, NY for two shows – August 5th at Saratoga Performing Arts Center and the second being on August 13th at Darien Lake Peforming Arts Center.

    KISS is entering their 40th year in the music industry and they’re looking to celebrate it the entire year, including being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Although KISS has had many lineup changes throughout the years, Def Leppard has had pretty much the same lineup since the early 80’s.

    This tour is also supporting the military with an exclusive presale and discounted tickets for those who have served the country. More information on that can be found at here. Tickets go on sale starting Friday March 21st.
