  • Pink Floyd Reveals Details For ‘The Endless River’

Pink Floyd has unveiled the cover art and track-listings for their upcoming double-album The Endless River which is being released November 10th. The title harkens back to the penultimate lyric from “High Hopes”, the final song on The Division Bell, Pink Floyd’s last album in 1993. It was originally mistaken to be a David Gilmour solo album.

The album, as described by Nick Mason is, “This record is a good way of recognizing a lot of what Rick does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was.” David Gilmour says, “We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together. Over the last year we’ve added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone, and with him, the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire”.

The album has been produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson. Manzanera co-wrote ‘One Slip’ for Pink Floyd’s Momentary Lapse of Reason album in 1987, co-produced Gilmour’s On an Island project and has toured with the guitarist several times. Youth, meanwhile, is part of the Orb, an ambient-house band that Gilmour worked with on 2010’s Metallic Spheres. Jackson, who’s ‘Big Spliff’ composition also makes up a small part of The Endless River, has been a recording engineer for Pink Floyd on every album since 1979’s The Wall.

The Endless River will be primarily instrumental with lyrics written by Polly Sampson, Gilmour’s wife, on the track ‘Louder Than Words’, that strike to the core of Pink Floyd’s history with founding and departed member Roger Waters.

“We bitch and we fight, but this thing that we do, it’s louder than words.”

There is a 30 second clip available on the band’s website along with ways to pre-order the different editions that will be available.

  • GWAR just unveiled new Front Woman!

Gwar continues to keep things interesting. After the sudden passing of Oderous Urungus (Dave Brockie) this year, the band has been a little quiet about who would fill in. They have went on record saying that they asked many older characters from Gwar’s extensive former members list to help fill out the tour. But now, a new player emerges, and as a front woman, she is a force to be reckoned with.

Vulvatron made her front woman debut at Riot Fest on September 12th, and the crowd response was altogether positive. From a recent press release from Wondering Sound:

“Vulvatron is not dancing, or breathing fire, or keeping the slaves in line (though one assumes she’ll be adept at all three). For the first time since the departure of dancer and backing singer Slymenstra Hymen (Danielle Stampe) in 2000, GWAR has a female member, and she’s the front woman.

To split hairs, she’s actually GWAR’s new co-frontperson, joining reinstated vocalist Blothar (Mike Bishop) whose Beefcake the Mighty character was introduced in 1988.”

This promises to be an incredible addition to the line-up, so don’t miss out on your chance to witness Gwar History (Gwarstory?) this winter when the band embarks on the Gwar Eternal Tour 2014. The tour will make a stop in Upstate New York at Upstate Concert Hall on December 11th, with American Sharks and Corrosion of Conformity. Check out Vulvatron’s facebook page here.

  • Cat Stevens Announces First U.S Tour Since 1976

197553-a2ce9Update 9/25: Yusuf has cancelled his show in NYC at The Beacon Theatre to protest New York’s scalping laws, per CBS. A statement from Yusuf reads:

Unfortunately I will not be performing in NYC this time around but I am looking forward to playing for fans in Philadelphia on December 4 and hope to return to NYC at a future date. My fans will understand and I thank them for informing me about the extortionate tickets prices already being listed on some websites. I have been a longtime supporter of paperless tickets to my shows worldwide and avoiding scalpers. Unfortunately NY has a state law that requires all tickets sold for shows in NYC to be paper, enabling them to be bought and sold at inflated prices. I’m sorry about not being able to now play in NYC but hope to find an opportunity that aligns with my support of this issue in the near future, God willing. Looks like the Peace Train is going to arrive at New York a little bit later than expected. – Yusuf

Yusuf will be playing in Boston on December 7th at the Wang Theatre.

“Peace Train” singer and newly inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Yusuf Islam, better known as Cat Stevens, announced a six-city concert tour in North America this December. This will be his first set of tour dates since 1976.

The “Peace Train..Late Again” tour starting on Dec. 1 in Toronto then continues through to Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and ends in Los Angeles. Tickets for the New York show go on sale September 24 at 10 am.
