Deadmau5 to Release, ‘5 Years of Mau5’

Since 2008, Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, has made quite the mark on the music scene as well as the public eye. Known for his giant mouse head, progressive electronic dance music and frequent tendency to openly speak his mind – Zimmerman’s rise to the top has been impressive and entertaining, to say the least. Setting himself far apart from your average “DJ” Mau5 considers himself more of an entertainer, often throwing together amazing and mind-blowing mixes and tracks on stage with cutting edge, advanced computer technology.

Zimmerman believes that the term “DJ” is played out and no longer truly encompasses what some of these individuals do on stage. He has headlined major events world-wide such as Itunes Music Festival, Lollapalooza, Budweiser’s Made in America, Virgin Mobile Free Fest and many more. In Summer 2012, Deadmau5 became the first Electronic “DJ” to be given the honor of front page of the Rolling Stone.

Deadmau5 has announced that this winter, just in time for the holiday season, he will be releasing a double album set with all of his older material from his first two albums, as well as new remixes and songs and other artists on Zimmerman’s “Mau5Trap.”

Deadmau5 will be playing his next major festival at the Hard Day of the Dead Festival in Southern California on November 1. Rock n Roll Resort and Hoplite Present: Turkuaz’s First Annual New Year’s Eve Extravaganza: The Ball Drop

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces the 2015 Nominees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced their nominees for induction in 2015. Voting is now open at their website for fans to weigh in with their opinion. As usual, there will be much discussion over who has been left-out of the balloting, and why some of those included were selected. This year’s nominees include a wide variety of genres, continuing the sometimes confusing traditions of The Hall.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band – American rock and roll collides with Southside Chicago blues.
Chic – A powerful combination of groove, soul and distinctly NYC studio smarts.
Green Day – Perennial punk adolescents, true to the basement and garage-rock band ethos.
Joan Jett and The Blackhearts – A potent mix of hard rock, glam, punk and garage rock that’s relevant in any era.
Kraftwerk – The foundation of all synthesizer-based rock and roll and electronic dance music.
The Marvelettes – Motown’s first official Number One hit makers.
N.W.A. – Massive influence, sonic power and boundary-smashing perspective.
Nine Inch Nails – The sounds and sights of transgressive art launched into the mainstream.
Lou Reed – Forty-plus years shaping the sound and the sense of contemporary music.
The Smiths – Four band-mates, five years, four albums and a vast sphere of influence.
The Spinners – One of the world’s most beloved R&B vocal groups.
Sting – A singular worldview reflected in a broad musical palette.
Stevie Ray Vaughn – A fiery show-stopper who influenced a generation of blues players.

The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a fans’ ballot that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2015 inductees. There have been 29 previous Induction Ceremonies that produced a total of 726 people in the current Hall of Fame comprised of 304 Inductees, including 108 bands so far. Out of these, 18 have been inducted twice and Eric Clapton stands alone with three inductions.

Located lakeside in Cleveland, Ohio, the Hall of Fame has become a must-see destination for fans of music across the country and around the world. A pilgrimage to “The Hall” provides visual and auditory delights for fans of all genres of music.

Who is 50? Who is coming to NY?

Legendary classic rock and hall of fame act The Who will be celebrating 50 years of music with an extensive 2 leg tour through most of 2015. Windmilling guitarist Pete Townsend apparently has big plans for the tour: “Trying to stay young. Not wearing socks. Growing a great big woodcutter’s beard. Might even wear a check shirt on stage and get a tattoo of a Union Jack. Always a fashion victim. But under no illusions. We are what we are, and extremely good at it, but we’re lucky to be alive and still touring.”

Will this be the last hurrah for the pinball wizards? According to Roger Daltry “This is the beginning of the long goodbye.” While that certainly leaves the true retirement date way up in the air, it’s probably advisable to get to one of these shows before the end is nigh. New Yorkers will have four chances to do so with dates in Uniondale (May 20) Brooklyn (May 26) Forest Hills (May 30) and a fall date at party central – Madison Square Garden (Oct 27). Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam XXVI: Jammin’ Around Ashville, NC

If you’re in the Tar Heel State this December, be sure to have yourself a Muley little Christmas, Christmas Jam XXVI that is.

Gifts come a little early as Warren Haynes 26^th Annual Christmas Jam is scheduled for Saturday, December 13. The renowned guitarist has hosted the event since 1989, donating the proceeds to charity; Habitat for Humanity has been the beneficiary since 1998. While Warren brings his soulful guitar-playing Upstate to Hunter, NY for Mountain Jam every summer, his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina gets him during the winter holiday season. Haynes’ relentless work ethic and benevolent personality have helped the event grow each year and Christmas Jam now takes place at the 7,500+ seat U.S. Cellular Center.

Past lineups have included The Allman Brothers Band, Counting Crows, Los Lobos, Umphrey’s McGee, and many more. Special guests like Karl Denson, Jackie Greene, Ron Holloway, and Susan Tedeschi show up each year. Americana Artist of the Year Jason Isbell, Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, and Vince Gill join Gov’t Mule, The Revivalists, and Hard Working Americans on 2014’s initial bill, but there will be many more artists to join, both announced and unannounced.

Kreutzmann’s new super-group, Billy & The Kids, features The Disco Biscuits’ keys/piano guru Aron Magner, Tea Leaf Green bassist Reed Mathis, and American Babies’ Tom Hamilton. Magner and Hamilton’s chemistry was recently on display at Catskill Chill, where they played with fellow Disco Biscuit Marc Brownstein and Lotus’s Mike Greenfield as Electron. Magner also sat in during Hamilton’s American Babies set for a fantastic cover of the Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie;” with Kreutzmann running the show and Mathis joining in, fans can expect a killer set.

Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill makes his inaugural trek to Christmas Jam in 2014. Gill has a GRAMMY award for each finger and toe on his body and will add a twang of country to the Southern rock show. Drive-By Trucker Jason Isbell, whose own award collection includes this year’s Americana Music Awards for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“Cover Me Up”), and Album of the Year (Southeastern), brings his talent to Asheville as well.

The initial lineup is rounded out by Hard Working Americans and The Revivalists. Like Billy & The Kids, Hard Working Americans is another all-star band, consisting of singer/songwriter Todd Snider, Chris Robinson Brotherhood’s Neal Casal on the six-string, Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools on bass, Derek’s younger brother Duane Trucks on drums, Jesse Aycock on the steel guitar, and Chad Staehly on keys. Their 2014 self-titled debut album features 11 cover songs, and Asheville is their penultimate scheduled stop on a national tour. The Revivalists is a New Orleans group with a brass section and a huge sound. The band plays soulful funk that sparks dance parties. Christmas Jam is their final stop on a national tour reaching 20+ cities.

The aforementioned musicians alone would put on an incredible show, but there will be many more artists announced in the coming weeks. Pre-sale tickets go on sale October 13 and regular tickets become available October 17. They always go fast, so be sure to treat yourself to a happy holiday by joining Warren’s incredible event.

Fleetwood Mac Expands Reunion Tour – Adds 3 NY Dates

The Fleetwood Mac reunion tour has just begun and already has been expanded well into 2015. The shows will feature the return of long time member Christine McVie whom – sans a quick two show stint in 2013 – has not been active in the band since 1998. The North America centered tour will run at least into April of next year with dates all across the US and Canada.

Upstate fans can look forward to a triple dose of Mac and McVie with dates in New York City (Jan 22 Madison Square Garden) Uniondale (Jan 25 Nassau Coliseum) and Buffalo (Jan 31 First Niagara Center). Tickets to all these shows are bound to sell out, so if you want to catch this rare reunion of one of classic rocks greats, do not delay.

Punk Legend Billy Idol Announces Album, Tour and Autobiography

Punk rock legend Billy Idol has released January and February dates for the latest leg of his world tour supporting “Kings & Queens Of The Underground” that begins in Europe next month. Tickets for these tour dates in Canada and The U.S. go on sale Friday, October 10 on the heels of the release of his self-penned autobiography, Dancing With Myself on October 7.

Idol’s new album, his first in nearly ten years, hits the shelves on October 21 and is garnering pre-release raves for the single, “Can”t Break Me Down”, including from USA Today: “With its punkish drive, sneering vocals and roaring Steve Stevens guitar, ‘Can’t Break Me Down’ could have made a great follow-up to latter-day Idol hits.” Produced by Trevor Horn (with two tracks co-written and produced by multiple Grammy nominee Greg Kurstin) the anthemic lead single can be heard below.

Idol will appear on NBC-TV’s Today Show on October 7 and the Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, October 8. The following day, Thursday, October 9, Idol will be interviewed live on stage as the keynote event of the 2014 CBGB Music and Film Festival in New York City.

Gov’t Mule Announces New Years Eve run and Vault Releases

Gov’t Mule will spend their New Years run in New York City at The Beacon Theater on Dec. 30 and 31 and swing down to Philadelphia for two more shows on Jan. 2 and 3 at The Tower Theater. On New Year’s Eve, Mule will be joined by Myles Kennedy for a potential night of AC/DC covers, given the artwork below and Kennedy’s vocal potential.

On Jan. 2, Cabinet and Ron Holloway will join Mule, and sax legend Bill Evans will join the band on Jan. 3. Tickets are on sale for the Beacon shows Friday, Oct. 10 at 12 noon, while Tower Theater tickets are on sale Friday, Oct. 17.

In addition to their four-night New Year’s run, Mule will also be releasing four vault releases:

Stoned Side of the Mule: Volume 1 releases exclusively on vinyl on Black Friday, Nov. 28 and features seven Rolling Stone covers from Halloween 2009 at The Tower Theater.

Dark Side of the Mule, will release on Dec. 9, including 90 minutes of live Pink Floyd covers. Recorded on Halloween 2008 at The Orpheum in Boston, this release will be available as an album, an album/DVD package or double vinyl.

Dub Side of the Mule, to be released in early 2015, will feature reggae songs with reggae legend Toots Hibbert of Toots & The Maytals from Mule’s New Year’s Eve 2006 show at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. This release will be available as an album, an album/DVD package or double vinyl and features special guests Gregg Allman & Friends and John Popper.

SCO-MULE, a long-awaited release that celebrates John Scofield’s teaming with Gov’t Mule as the band enters their 20^th year. Details from the press release spell out the great potential for this live release:

In late September of 1999, John Scofield teamed with Gov’t Mule, then featuring original bass player the late Allen Woody, along with keyboardist Dr. Dan Matrazzo, in Georgia for two legendary shows of mind-bending live prowess. Both shows were recorded and included the Mule’s first-ever all-instrumental sets. The band had begun preparing the music for eventual release while working on their third studio album Life Before Insanity. However, less than a year later, their beloved bassist Allen Woody passed away, setting the Mule on a different path. The idea of releasing SCO- MULE came up over the years, but the timing was never as right as it is now – helping to mark Gov’t Mule’s 20th Anniversary. While Scofield and the Mule did reunite briefly for a set at Warren Haynes’ 25th Annual Christmas Jam in December 2013, fans have been clamoring for the return of the project ever since those lauded 1999 shows, and for more than a decade the Mule have been eager to share the music from these shows through an LP. Now for the first time, fans can experience the SCO-MULE magic first-hand in album form, newly mixed and mastered. The 3-hour all-instrumental album is a jazz romp laced with rock riffs and will be available as a 2-CD set as well as a double vinyl.

Trey Anastasio Band Fall Tour and New Album ‘Paper Wheels’

Exciting news today as Trey Anastasio Band has announced a fall tour of the Northeast and a new album, Paper Wheels, due in early 2015. The album was recently recorded by the band at The Barn, Anastasio’s reconstructed barn-turned-rehearsal/recording studio located outside Burlington, VT, in less than a week.

Inspired by the immediacy of Stax-era recordings, Anastasio and his band mates recorded the songs live, playing and singing together in one room and often requiring no more than one or two takes. This tour will let the band preview the songs on the album before the release. As an added bonus today you can download “Bounce” right now as a free download at Trey’s website for a preview of Paper Wheels. The album was produced and engineered by Bryce Goggin, who helmed several Phish albums and has also partnered with Anastasio on previous solo projects, and mixed by Elliot Scheiner (Steely Dan, Van Morrison).

Trey Anastasio Band has previewed some of these songs already on their West Coast tour this past spring, as well as the special Brooklyn Bowl taping for PBS in August. Other songs that have been played already and are expected on the new album include “In Rounds,” “Paper Wheels,” “Lever Boy”and “Sometime After Sunset”.

The tour will start the day after Thanksgiving in Chicago before coming to the East Coast. The first two night stand of the tour will take place at the famed 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. on December 2 and 3. This will be followed by another two night stand at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre on December 5 and 6. On December 9, the band will be Binghamton’s Broome County Forum Theatre. The Beacon Theatre in New York City will get the band on December 11 and 12 with the tour wrapping up the following evening on December 13 at Philadelphia’s Tower Theatre. Tickets will be going on a pre-sale through Trey Ticketing on Thursday October 9 at Noon with a public sale happening Thursday October 16. The full list of tour dates is below.

Music, Cars and Food Trucks Combine for a great time all month long at Paddock Chevrolet

Every October, there seems to be quite the buzz in Western New York over a few things, whether it’s the onslaught of changing colors with the trees, the Oktoberfest themed weekends or the pumpkin picking for the families there seems to be always something to do. One big event that seems to also get people out and about is the many different types of Automotive sales events that seem to dominate the radio and television channels. So how does one decide who to visit? I’m not sure there really is a correct answer but one local dealership has seemed to really taken the month of October and really made it their own.

Paddock Chevrolet, nestled in the tiny Buffalo suburb of Kenmore, coined the tagline ” A world-class dealership with small town values” and has been around for over 77 years in the same location. So how does Paddock Chevrolet make October different then its competition? They have branded themselves and the month with an annual sales event called ROCKTOBER. The event which started out as a sales event that produced the catchphrase “Rocking deals on Rocking Wheels” will be amping up this year with some really incredible stuff. There will also be food trucks on site for Saturday’s in October and who doesn’t love a perfect excuse to get some great eats from local food trucks? Giveaways will be going on all month as well with three signed guitars being giving away, signed by Dave Matthews, Keith Urban and local hometown hero and Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik. There will also be a grand prize giveaway for a trip for two to Las Vegas for a 2 night 3 day stay at Planet Hollywood and orchestra seats at the Rock of Ages show.
