Yet, as soon as Amber Bain stepped on the stage, it was clear that she was the most incandescent star amongst them all, and she was here to deliver an utterly transcending performance of a lifetime. English synthpop and folktronica artist Amber Mary Bain, professionally under the moniker <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/2023\/11\/07\/the-japanese-house-plays-sold-out-webster-hall-show-with-quinnie\/\">The Japanese House<\/a>, performed at her sold-out show on <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/2023\/04\/19\/the-rooftop-at-pier-17-announces-newest-summer-concert-series-lineup\/\">The Rooftop at Pier 17<\/a> on July 27 \u2013 gloriously guiding her audience through a journey heartache, loneliness, yearning and unfulfilled desires.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/JAPANESEHOUSE_PIER17_07272024_ALISHA-13-768x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-519871\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by Alisha Goel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The night started with one of her most popular songs \u201cTouching Yourself\u201d from her sophomore album <em><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/1pflleeGIJGEAillSnSetf?autoplay=true\">In the End It Always Does<\/a><\/em>. While the guitar and sax in the background make it sound like a fun lightweight pop song, the verses harrowingly grappled with the isolating feeling of not being able to forge a connection with someone no matter how hard you try to.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/JAPANESEHOUSE_PIER17_07272024_ALISHA-8-768x512.jpg\" alt=\"The Japanese House\" class=\"wp-image-519866\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by Alisha Goel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The set featured artists vocals from artists like <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/2023\/03\/12\/saturday-night-live-features-jenna-ortega-hosting-with-british-indie-group-the-1975\/\">Matty Healy<\/a> from The 1975, <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/2019\/10\/26\/charli-xcx-wraps-up-us-tour-with-two-sold-out-nights-at-terminal-5\/\">Charlie XCX<\/a> and members from MUNA and <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/2016\/10\/18\/hearing-aide-bon-iver-22-a-million\/\">Bon Iver<\/a>, perfectly complementing Bain\u2019s signature layered vocals, experimental guitar riffs and electronic pop instrumentals. Her music fluidly infuses intimately confessional songwriting, potent storytelling and tender vocals, creating a highly nuanced and immersive listening experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/JAPANESEHOUSE_PIER17_07272024_ALISHA-5-768x1152.jpg\" alt=\"The Japanese House\" class=\"wp-image-519863\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by Alisha Goel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A perfect example of this was her performance of \u201cSad to Breathe,\u201d which started out as a gentle instrumental exploration on heartbreak, and then completely mutated into a catchy upbeat pop song. Bain also played \u201cBoyhood,\u201d a song about trying to embrace and find oneself amidst all the chaos, while also leaving the listener contemplating and reflecting on their alternate paths and experiences that brought them to this point in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stage was decorated with colorful orbs, and the lights beautifully contrasted the gorgeous NYC skyline and the East River in the backdrop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/JAPANESEHOUSE_PIER17_07272024_ALISHA-11-768x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-519869\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by Alisha Goel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The encore section of the concert featured four songs, including a country acoustic guitar rendition of \u201cBoyhood.\u201d Bain played her latest single \u201c:)\u201d and prefaced it by saying, \u201cIt\u2019s about being in love, about being gay. It is my favorite song to play,\u201d which gained a lot of head nods and laughs from the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/JAPANESEHOUSE_PIER17_07272024_ALISHA-9-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Japanese House\" class=\"wp-image-519867\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by Alisha Goel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before bidding the crowd farewell with fan-favorite \u201cSunshine Baby,\u201d Bain expressed her gratitude and emotionally declared that this was her favorite show she had ever played.
