  • Warren Haynes Announces “Million Voices Whisper” 2025 Tour, Stop at Town Ballroom

    Warren Haynes will hit the road this winter on the “Million Voices Whisper” tour in support of the album of the same name. Haynes and his band will hit the Town Ballroom in Buffalo to close out the tour on Feb. 22.

    On Nov. 1, Grammy Award-winning Gov’t Mule front man, Warren Haynes, released Million Voices Whisper, Warren’s first solo album in almost a decade. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Blues Albums Chart. Haynes will go on a 9-date run that will kickoff Feb. 7 in Knoxville and see the Warren Haynes Band travel throughout the Midwest and Northeast, stopping in such cities as Huntsville, Toledo, Des Moines, and Burlington, before finishing off in Buffalo on Feb. 22. 

    Ahead of the “Million Voices Tour,” Hayes will perform with his band, Gov’t Mule in their annual New Year’s residence in NYC at the Beacon Theater. Learn more about those shows here.

    Performing alongside Haynes (vocals, guitar) will be the current, all-star lineup of the Warren Haynes Band: longtime drummer Terence Higgins (of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band), Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott, Matt Slocum on keys, and Greg Osby on sax.

    $1 from every ticket sold for the winter tour will be donated to assist with hurricane relief.

  • An Intimate Night with Lucinda Williams at The Town Ballroom

    Lucinda Williams & Her Band opened up their twelve-day Nor’easter tour at The Town Ballroom in Buffalo on Friday, November 8th.

    It was an intimate evening at the Ballroom. Normally the pit and first landing areas are standing room only GA. Tonight was a little different with reserved seating replacing those areas.

    As the lights went down the packed room was ready, and absolutely erupted when the band took the stage. After a 13-year absence from the area, they let the band know they were missed. And take notice they did, with some big smiles on their faces, Lucinda Williams and her band jumped right in with “Let’s Get the Band Back Together.” From the first song to the last, they were on point, and I’m sure as the tour continues, it will only get better.

  • Disco Biscuits Announce Fall Tour, Stops in Brooklyn Bearsville, Buffalo and Rome

    Fresh on the heels of their wildly successful Why We Dance Tour and its ongoing follow up tour, The Disco Biscuits are keeping the momentum going and have announced a run of shows in the Fall.

    The shows will take place predominantly in the Northeast, but feature a Halloween run at The Caverns in Tennessee. The band will play Brooklyn Steel on November 9 with the next show scheduled for Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock on November 13.

    The Fall Tour also includes The Disco Biscuits making return appearances to The Palladium in Worcester, MA on November 15 and the State Theatre in Portland, ME on November 16. The tour also rolls through Connecticut twice with shows in both Norwalk (November 14) and Hartford (November 20-21). And New York continues to get plenty of attention as well as the tour concludes with the final three shows here. The band will play Rome Capitol Theatre for the first time on November 22 before concluding the tour with two shows at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom where the band never seems to disappoint.

    Both General Admission and VIP tickets for the Fall Tour go on sale tomorrow at 12 pm ET. The VIP package for this set of shows includes early entry to each venue with early access to merch, a pre-show private soundcheck an group photo with the band as well as a commemorative show ticket instead of the usual poster and a laminate. There’s also still one yet to be announced show for this tour on November 7 that falls between ones at Ram’s Head Live in Baltimore and the aforementioned Brooklyn Steel show.   • Biscoland Triumphs Through the Heat at Wonderland

    More than two decades of Disco Biscuits music festival memories converged in Central New York over July 4-6. Combining the rocky terrain of Skye Top Festival Grounds in Van Etten, the hills of Hunter Mountain, the prime rural location of Mariaville and the heat and humidity of Montage Mountain, Camp Biscos of years past were recalled throughout the weekend, these elements compacting into a look at a bright spot in the once boisterous Northeast music festival scene.

    Even with all music bumped to be an hour or so earlier than announced, the full Camp Bisco Biscoland experience was on tap. New artists to discover, veteran jam and funk acts to catch up with, Tractorbeam, various DJ sets, a Silent Disco for the post-11 pm noise curfew, and adding in the humidity and heat coupled with the threat of rain/storms, and it was like Camp Bisco 2008 all over again.

    Wonderland Forest, which has the potential to be the Caverns of the Northeast, makes the experience not just inside the venue, but the location includes a drive into the rural foothills in southern Onondaga County, with a unique and accessible layout found nowhere else in the Northeast. A byproduct of the Covid-pandemic, the venue’s management thinks differently about the events they plan, the fans they cater to, and the experience that everyone has upon arrival and throughout the weekend. With a summer calendar of events lined up that rivals amphitheaters around the state, Wonderland Forest is shaping up to make Central New York a true live music destination.

    Thursday arrival was smooth whether you were car camping or bringing the RV along. Staff solved preferred camping shuttle issues quickly to get fans to their sites and out to see the music. 

    The initial afternoon slate of music featured opening acts from JImkata, a nationally touring electro-rock band with ties to nearby Ithaca, and Kitchen Dwellers a very non-local band from Montana continually growing in popularity and serving up a blend of bluegrass and psychedelic rock.

    Day 1 also featured two sets from a pair of renowned DJs, starting with Mark Farina who played an hour’s worth of house music and his signature “mushroom jazz” at the Saloon Stage. Nora En Pure, a deep house producer known for her signature style of downtempo techno, followed on the Main Stage with a set of music that served as a fitting appetizer for the main course that evening.

    That would be Tractorbeam, the Disco Biscuits musical alter ego per se, which features a more techno/dance heavy and lyric-less approach to their music mixed along with other electronica inspirations. Tonight leaned heavily on the “other” with a slew of first timers making their way into the two-hour set that never truly stopped at any point until Katy Perry belted out “Firework.”

    A first-time cover of Porter Robinson’s “Language” started the set and funneled perfectly into the techno-styled “Confrontation” that the band has mixed into Disco Biscuits sets as of late. The rest of the set followed suit, blending a mix of electronica classics like Fisher’s “Losing It” that segued effortlessly into a rousing “The Great Abyss” with the laser light show now at full strength. The set even featured a cover of Darude’s “Sandstorm,” also played for the first time.

    With the band fittingly adorned in blue and red Adidas track suits for the holiday, they continued to effortlessly churn through new additions to the Tractorbeam musical repertoire, like their take on Fred Again & Baby Keem’s “Leavemealone” that featured some incredible work on the e-drums from Allen Aucoin. The following segment of “Monster” > “Uber Glue” > “Photograph” flowed seamlessly and was the only true run of Biscuits originals. And although there would be no professional pyrotechnics set off on the 4th, the Tractorbeam set ended with a proper cover of Katy Perry’s “Firework” that put an end to the first night of music at Biscoland. 

    Friday warmed up fast and brought along that Camp Bisco humidity of legend and ill repute. Early sets from Dizgo and RAQ brought out those looking to get out of their campsites and hotels. Lespecial kept the crowd engaged, with bassist Luke Bemand poking fun at himself for wearing black jeans on such a hot day, bringing up Cloudchord on guitar during “Enter Sandstorm,” calling back to the Tractorbeam debut of “Sandstorm” the night before. Bemand and Co. flattered the sun-baked crowd throughout the set, reminding those gathered at the main stage “your body is a Wonderland Forest.” Sets from Lettuce and Break Science framed the night ahead, a warm up in the evening daylight for the Biscuits.

    For the first proper weekend set of Disco Biscuits, a 14-minute “Vassillios” opened things up with the classic old school tune, something rare to find on this night of fresh/er Biscuits. However, we could not confirm at press time that first set highlight “Dino Baby” was influenced by regional brisket. The smoothly flowing “Dino Baby” stretched itself into an inverted “Crickets,” and once the jam was found, gave a bridge to the first (lyrical) debut of the night, “In the End We Have Forever,” although it had been played fully instrumental at Electric Forest two weeks prior. “No Recollection” closed the set with bassist Marc Brownstein encouraging the crowd (and band) they’d keep the setbreak short at 20 minutes, which they nearly delivered on.

    The second set saw the debut of “Another Spin” spanning more than 30 minutes,and based on the March 9, 2024 “No Recollection” jam, per Biscuits Internet Project. Working into the end of “Another Plan of Attack”, the band debuted “Losing It,” again with lyrics, after presenting the instrumental version during Tractorbeam on Thursday night, a rare double-debut for a band that has been unloading fresh new material on fans like an A-list comic hitting the Comedy Cellar night after night for 15-minute sets.

    Dipping back into the beginning of “Another Plan of Attack,” the only other old school Biscuits song of the night, “Catalyst” made itself welcome, grinding the end of the set towards “Ring the Doorbell Twice.” You’d be hard-pressed to find a dull moment from these sets, with plenty to unpack from the debuts upon relistens. 

    The last day of this year’s Biscoland offered a brief respite from some of the humidity and more varied musical acts leading up to two more sets of Disco Biscuits. Saxsquatch, which is exactly what it sounds like, braved the weather and delivered covers on the sax at the Saloon Stage in the early afternoon. Later on the Main Stage, albeit after a bit of a delay, The Breakfast reunited for a set of psychedelic-infused rock that included a spot-on cover of MGMT’s “Time To Pretend.” Afterwards, Space Bacon played to a full and lively crowd back on the Saloon Stage, setting the stage perfectly for the headliners with some Bisco-esque guitar riffs and impressive jamming overall.

    The Biscuits continued to mesh the old with the new in their last two sets of the weekend, starting with a true old school number in “Basis For A Day.” The show began with a cohesive instrumental jam that started off fast and never let up for well over 10 minutes until the familiar chorus, with some added orchestral effects from Magner on keys, rang out. The jam out of “Basis” was patiently crafted and segued seamlessly into “Freeze,” from the band’s recent Revolution In Motion release. The extended jam out of “Freeze” led into “Better In Doses,” a completely brand new song debuted, featuring Barber on lead vocals and an infectious beat that seemed like it could have easily fit alongside other “Motion” songs on the album.

    The second set began with one last nod to the days of old with a massive “House Dog Party Favor” opener that reached almost 30 minutes in length. From the ashes of the second “House Dog” jam arose yet another new song making its live debut, “Trap Door.” This elicited an intense, slow build of a jam that steamrolled perfectly into a “Cyclone” that continued to build the momentum and even used samples of Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean.”

    An inverted “Above The Waves’ followed and served as the other massive jam vehicle of the second set. After one last introduction to “Trap Door,” the show came to a close with one last silky smooth transition into “Digital Buddha,” which allotted one last opportunity of samples and true Biscuits rock.

    For those that still had a little left in the tank, a Cloudchord silent disco set was the final performance of this year’s Biscoland due to the last minute change in schedule. The Revolution in Motion producer was armed with a guitar and a drum machine and even brought up Barber for a short few minutes on a run through of “Shocked,” giving those in attendees one last chance to soak up the very last remnants of Biscoland 2.

  • In Focus: Origami Angel Electrifies Town Ballroom

    Emo-rock band Origami Angel took to the Town Ballroom stage on May 7. This set was the first of their stretch of opening for headliner Microwave, and their first return to Buffalo since April 2023. 

    Origami Angel took the stage following two 30-minute sets from Carpool Tunnel and Heart Attack Man. With the crowd already enlivened, Origami Angel took things to the next level. With Pat Doherty on drums and Ryland Heagy on guitar and vocals, their 45-minute set weaved through a few of their released and well-received albums, including Gen 3 (2019), Somewhere City (2019), GAMI GANG (2021), and The Brightest Days (2023). 

    They opened their set with the song “Fruit Wine”. The energy of the crowd illuminated as they sang along, despite the band only releasing the song the day prior. As their set went on, they played fan favorites including “Thank You, New Jersey”, “Ruby”, and “Self-Destruct”. With two band members, two instruments, and no other stage design or graphics, they kept the crowd engaged with their full sound, unique tempo changes and riffs.

    Though the venue discouraged crowdsurfing and moshing, Origami Angel’s performance was too enthralling for the crowd to do anything but. The band stopped in Toronto on May 9, and have begun the mid-west stretch of this tour.

  • Boogie T Brings the ‘Flava’ Yet Again to Buffalo

    The funky dubstep artist Boogie T made a stop in Buffalo on May 2. This multi-faceted producer left Town Ballroom with another EDM show for the books on his 140 Warriors Tour.

    It wouldn’t be called a warriors tour if Boogie T didn’t bring along his talented friends for the ride. Underground bass producer Chef Boyarbeatz began the night with his nostalgic take on heavy breaks. His Spongebob visuals were psychedelic and such a crowd a pleaser once he played his latest single “Squidwards Revenge.”

    After, two hard-hitting producers performed a special b2b for Buffalo. Bringing bass music from Hong Kong, Saka joins technical artist FLY for a high energy performance. The two mix effortlessly on stage as they blend hip-hop, dubstep, and rap. The two artists constantly switch on and off the decks showcasing their latest work. Their Baby Keem flip of “Trademark USA” was a staple that got everyone hyped up.

    Boogie T followed up this performance as he took over the stage with his Louisiana swag. This booming producer, also known as Brock Thornton has expressed himself through music since eight years old. His talent in both writing and playing various instruments is evident. Hence for the band he is also in when he’s not behind the decks: BOOGIE T.RIO. His knowledge of all things music and his southern twang brings a new funk to dubstep that is unlike anything others are doing in the scene.

    From the Swamps to the Stage

    Odds are you can pick out a Boogie T song instantly just from his unique sound. Plus it doesn’t matter how much time has passed, his hit tracks bring roaring energy anywhere at any time. That very much was true in Buffalo that night because the screams were unreal once he played “Smokin’ Dat Spliff,” and “2KFO.”

    Boogie T’s stage performance is a perfect mirror to his music. His music brings the wonky noises to the people so he brings the funk to the stage. His entertaining dance moves and infectious energy make him so lovable to fans. His visuals somehow extend his unique swag even further with cartoon-like images.

    His collaborations with other artists are some of the best pieces of work to come out of the EDM world. Specifically, when Boogie T and Ganja White Night team up their songs are instant hits. So, of course Boogie T performed those songs, “Clarity” and the fan favorite single “Flava.”

    Finally Boogie T left the stage but not without a roaring crowd response begging for an encore. He then returned and performed one obvious final track: “Encore.”

  • Country Boy TVBOO Stops in Buffalo for Comedic EDM Show 

    Mississippi phenomenon that is TVBOO had a special show at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom on April 13. His unique bass lines are what make every dubstep lover go crazy, but it’s his comedic flair that takes his performance up several notches.

    Local support RainMan made his Town Ballroom debut that night. He was joined by the intrepid duo sfam. Their performance was followed by AHEE who is known for his high-energy dubstep and mesmerizing sonic exploration.

    TVBOO then took over the stage with his knee high socks and iconic mullet. This man is a performer through and through knowing exactly when to add his comedic tidbits for laughter and sound bites.

    This producer’s infamous voice samples and funky beats make his songs so memorable whether or not you have heard of TVBOO. He played countless tunes off of his hit 2022 album Blue Collar Bass including his collaboration with GRiZ, “Bass Music.”

    The Meme Master

    TVBOO’s funky beats are what everyone loves to groove to but his visuals are some of which people can’t stop talking about. They’ll either leave you confused on what is going on or dying from laughter. He makes memes of himself that are stuck in everyone’s head by the end of the night. Some of which include him riding on a bald eagle or licking his eyebrows to name a few.

    TVBOO mixes into his sets both new and old tunes. He throws it back with his single, “Skrawberries” where he dedicates it to a girl that came into his life that tasted like strawberries. The artist even replays this song over so the crowd can match the energy needed for a tune that goes this hard. He also played his latest single, “Cha Cha Step” which fans got to hear for the first time live.

    This was a memorable night for both TVBOO and his fans. It ended with the artist announcing he will be back for a stop on his fall 2024 tour. So if you missed TVBOO this time around make sure not to miss him for his return.

  • In Focus: Disco Biscuits at Town Ballroom in Buffalo

    The Disco Biscuits came to the Town Ballroom in Buffalo over March 30-31 for two nights on their Why We Dance Tour. Just the night before they debuted their new album, Revolution in Motion at Webster Hall in New York City.

    The Disco Biscuits have a rich history at the Town Ballroom, New York’s most underrated club venue. The room is perfect for the Biscuits as the many levels and circular setup makes a Disco Biscuits show there feel like an mini Bisco coliseum. They’ve played many great shows there and they added another on Saturday, while Sunday’s show was a more laid back affair.

    On Saturday, the first night of two, you could tell the band was feeling great after a successful and probably pressure filled album release party the night before; as they looked to be in high spirits all night. Even though the previous show was all new songs, they still had enough new material to still have a good mix of old and new. The whole first set was a highlight, and was certainly up there with one of the better sets they’ve played in Buffalo. The room absolutely lost it when Orch Them appeared out of a stellar Buy The Time Jam. As far as second set highlights, Mindless Dribble > Fire Exchange > Confrontation was the meat of the set. It’s pretty hard to top ending a set with Confrontation, the crowd chanted along the words and all was right in Biscoland.

    The Disco Biscuits have been trying their whole careers to blend live instruments and club music together, and it seems like they have finally perfected it in 2024. Besides setbreak, the music on Saturday did not stop once. The whole show was moving and pulsing forward, they didn’t get lost or falter once. Sometimes when bands focus too much on improv it can feel like the band is jamming just to jam, but that was night the case at all. The band played with purpose and direction, something that is hard to do when the majority of the night’s music was improv.

    Sunday night’s show was a little bit of a step back from the previous night’s energy. Maybe the wave of energy crashed the night before, maybe they were in party mode celebrating Jon Gutwillig’s birthday, but they weren’t able to top Saturday. That being said, that’s what you get with improv. They are playing with such consistency nowadays that a show that let off the gas a little bit is still a great night of music. The improv on Sunday oscillated between dark and dirty Biscuits, some throwback trance and some happy Biscuits mixed in. I’m a sucker for happy Biscuits, and after a lot of dark, plodding improv throughout the night, the M1 > Cyclone section really scratched that itch for me.

    The Disco Biscuits are playing lights out right now, so get your ass to a show if you can. They are due back in New York State for 4th of July weekend at their own festival Biscoland, just outside Syracuse.

    EDM producer Kaivon returned to Buffalo on March 8 performing at his largest venue to date in Western NY, Town Ballroom. The melodic bass artist got to perform is latest tunes off of his 2024 album Ultraviolet

    Local talent Electric Dad and ZWAAN kicked off this night of future bass music. This was followed by Drezo. LA-based producer Drezo introduced the crowd to a style of G-House which pays homage to hip-hop elements. He brings those rap mixes that everyone knows blended with his bold beats.

    Then the transformative artist known as Kaivon brought an uplifted vibe as soon as he stepped on the stage. His visuals instantly give a euphoric feel especially with the use of colorful lighting.  

    Even though Kaivon is loved for his melodic heartfelt songs he still designates sections of his set for lovers of heavy dubstep. The way he can make people teary eyed from his mix of Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For” and then headbang right after to the following song is why so many people keep coming back to a Kaivon set.

    Kaivon’s performance brings attention to the parts of life people love most. His set is meant to reconnect the crowd and bring a nostalgic feel. He does this through powerful visuals and several mixes of popular songs. Artists he mixed into his set included Paramore, Rufus Du Sol, The Fray, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

    Finally getting to hear songs for the first time off of his sophomore album Ultraviolet was a euphoric feeling. Especially with the performance of “Pretty” which gets everyone in their feels with its angelic rhythm. This only grew more when he performed his throwback fan favorite song, “I Love You.”

    Kaivon’s shows bring a unique force to EDM culture. He is a reminder of why living in the present moment is so important. He creates a space that grounds people and invites people to reborn in a positive framework.

  • Dirt Monkey is Blown Away By the Buffalo Crowd

    DJ/Producer Dirt Monkey made a stop in Buffalo for his MYCELIUM SOUND tour on Friday, February 9. This EDM artist completely steam-rolled through Town Ballroom making it a night to remember.

    The openers this night were stacked with intricate sound design and deep bass grooves that made it impossible not to get hyped up. Artists Neon Black and Austeria are growing producers in the scene that are paving the way for up and coming dubstep. Last-minute fill in G-Space completely wooed the crowd with his layered mystic sound that blends trap and funk music.

    Dirt Monkey took over the stage and immediately brought the vibes even higher. One element that this talented producer has mastered is expanding across multiple EDM sub genres to bring a new sound to fans. From dubstep, to drum and bass, to house and everything in between he is not afraid to go beyond conventional norms. It’s no surprise his devoted following considers him a producer’s producer.

    2023 was the year of releases for Dirty Monkey. He released not one, but two full length albums, MYCELIUM SOUND PT. 1 and MYCELIUM SOUND PT. 2. He performed an array of songs off both albums and even shared unreleased tracks that he’s been working on.

    Old School X New School

    Dirt Monkey utilizes a reggae sound throughout his drops that gives his music a sense of funk that is addictive to listen to. His visuals match this vibe with intricate geometrical patterns and electric colors.

    Despite this being a tour for his new sound, Dirt Monkey still found a way to play his old hits. Some of which include “Gabagool,” “Lift Off,” and “Jack It Up.” He also mixed in other artists tunes while giving them that Dirt Monkey twist. It is a testament to his artistry that he can make even a house music hater question their taste because Dirt Monkey knows how to add that extra flavor to songs.

    There was something different in the air at Town Ballroom that night and Dirt Monkey even shared how he could tell the people in Buffalo really listened to his music. The crowds energy that night made Buffalo a must stop for him and it’s why so many popular EDM artists keep coming back. The western NY EDM scene has reignited shows in a whole new way.
